Great documentary about Jamey! I buy his vinyl improv LPs every time I find them, in any condition. I jam along to them and loan them to jazz players I know can't always get together with other musicians to practice licks. Cheers to jazz... straight ahead!
i cant possibly thank Jamey Abersold enough for all fun i have due to his teaching me how to play jazz , learn scales and chords ... No music teacher ever helped me as much as Abersold . I own about 40 of his books and CD's some 700 plus songs and enjoy playing with them better than with my combo... bobby g........
and im still alive at 82 yrs old and play abersolds music every day on my ZOOM recorder and my computer which has kept me young in spirit .. still play with the guys but at home every day with Jamey ... my hero ..
JA is as important to jazz music as Miles or Charlie Parker is. I know that sounds like a ridiculous overstatement, but think about it more. Pretty much every jazz musician from the Vol 1 of the play along series onward has honed his craft, especially in the beginning, with these wonderful recordings.
Yes, he is an important educator of jazz music. To be sure. But not as important as bird or dizzy or the guys who were actually on the battlefield pushing this form of expression.
That count-off will be my heart forever
I heard it so many times it's practically the way I start every song in my head lol
A long time, but I never will forget !! All the best !!!
I discovered Jamey late in life, but I can't live without his play-alongs, so insightful
Yes! his count-off is so his own.
Hearing him count the tune in, is like the best childhood memory of mine.

huge influence on my playing. it really is all about learning the scales
