    I want to do a Spartan shield out of wood. But I'm a beginner whitler and dont know where to start, I just have a knife, strop, and some wood.

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  2 года назад

      Awesome! Carving one out of wood would definitely be a challenge but I'm sure it can be done with some practice. Best of luck with your project! 👍

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you so much! Unfortunately, the shield was the only piece that came out in the casting. I've been thinking about making these again in 3D though.

    Beautiful work. What is the liquid on the Q-Tip in the drill you are using to polish?

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  3 года назад +4

      Thank you! That was odorless mineral spirits on the Q-tip. It works well for polishing the wax.

    Hi! Amazing skill!
    Can you please mention the "shaft holder" you use? (00:30 and onwards)

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  2 года назад

      Thank you so much! That's a handpiece holder that I made myself but I believe Rio Grande sells something similar.
      Here's the link to theirs if you are interested:

    Did you ever cast the Spartan helmet , shield and sword? I made the same set but larger scale out of cast resin. Your finish is much better.

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  3 года назад

      Unfortunately, these didn't cast well for me. I tried casting them in bronze (my first time using bronze casting grain) and I don't think I had the metal was hot enough. The shield was the only one that came out.
      When I get the time, I plan on giving it another try. I might 3D model/print the pieces next time so I can have multiple attempts in case it goes wrong again.

    Did you ever cast these? Interested to know how they turned out.

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  Год назад

      Unfortunately, only the shield turned out on these carvings. The helmet and sword ended up breaking off of the sprue during the investment process. 😅 I've thought about trying these ones again but maybe 3D modeling them. It was a shame they didn't turn out, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

    How did you make / where did u get your flex shaft mount? I need this in my life!

    • @GraceNoteForge
      @GraceNoteForge  3 года назад

      I made this one myself with a CNC machine. But I have seen similar ones online. Rio Grande has one that looks good too:
