Bought this system to finish the basement in my old house a few years ago. Worked great and this video was what convinced me to buy the CeilingMAX system. Well done, sir!
Much better instructions than the manufacturer. Great tip to install border row, then the runner- I have no idea how the manufacturer expects you to install the runner in between two rows of tile.
In my basement the previous owners ran all the wiring at the bottom of the joists instead of drilling holes which means I need to install 1x4 along the entire ceiling which as I think about it may be a good thing because joist placement won't be an issue
The problem area, especially if you are attaching the grid directly to joists is the last and final row. That final step does not allow you to grasp the hanger strip from behind in order to snap in the final runner piece. Appreciate the video - all other aspects nicely explained. Would be great to see a video for the installation of the final row of tiles.
I am actually trying to install CeilingMax in a small room right now and cannot come to terms with the best way to do that. It is amazing how this video constantly talks about the "rocking" system, but as you install the last row, you have no rocking available. How did the video just skip over that reality? The official video kind of covers this, but I also find those instructions to be stunningly lacking.
I am using 2x4 tiles, and looks like I have to cut of the 12" section to the first notch off each runner to get it going the 48" panes going in the direction I want. Is this correct? Seems like a weird extra step and make working with lots of 12" fill in piece.
i was thinking of doing this for my basement studio. However i have cables that run along the ceiling. How can i still be able to run them if you screw those strips to the joists ?
@@wheelie642 Sadly you need to take down a good number of the tiles. that is the benefit and Bain of this type of ceiling. With a traditional Drop ceiling you have room above the tiles to move & slide them. With this type of ceiling you need to take down what ever you need to take down to get to problem areas.
Yes it's real, I'm trying to install a CeilingMax grid right now and I'm struggling, but it seems to be mainly because we chose a 3/4" thick tile which is really pushing the limits of the system. I'd recommend not going any more than 1/2" thick or even 1/4" if you want to retain your sanity while installing this product. There is also the competitor CeilingLink system which is very similar but less expensive and online-order only. Cheers.
When this old man talked about spanking the tiles I lost it. 😂😂😂 but thank you sir. Your video was so much more informative than the directional video

Michael, your video is much more understandable than the mfg video. Thanks for posting this!

The big hint for me was allowing 3/4 of an inch when laying out the runners.

Very helpful, you explain this real well. Thanks
Good clear explanation. Thanks
Great vid, thanks for the insights!
How.do you replace or remove a tile after it's finished? Incase a tile is damaged
Thanks alot Mike! Those little tips really help!
Good video.

Great tips Thank You!!!!

Sjrick probably
Use a wood drill and open up holes in the joists to run the cables through. A small hole won't lead to any structural problems.
@@Salparadise808 I had the same issue. I installed 1x2s to the floor joists and hung the runner on these, Gave me a 1" gap to run cables and wires in.
Here's a trick if you happen to get your tiles dirty when they are up. Take a cut piece of tile and rub the finish sides together.
Help! I need to remove a few of these to get at some wiring and I am not able to figure out how to do it. Any tips?
I’m sorry to see you got crickets rather than an answer to your question.

Thank You!
My basement is about 16' 8" x 9' , how do you recommend closing the gap between the two 8' wall brackets?
8 years an no answer. What did you end up doing?
