From the beginning, Oda wanted One Piece to end in 5 years, so it makes sense that Oda hides a lot of hints in the first 100-200 chapters. I think the lion Richie from Buggy's crew dreaming of fighting a sea dragon (cover page chapter 59) is one of them, giving that Imu has a tail like a dragon and could easily defeat Sabo's fire.

There's another theory video that mentions it too. People seem to forget that one piece was supposed to end in 5 years which makes skypeia and long ring long land much more significant. We literally get a view of what Joyboy's power is in long ring long land. It wouldn't be that out of the question for One piece to be in Long Ring Long Land. There's a reason why the things we now know about the world make much more sense in the current anime. There's a giant hole in Enies lobby, just like there is now where Lulusia was. Is the ancient kingdom at the bottom of enies lobby? probably, yeah. It makes the most sense to put a massively conspicuous base right on top of it. Is the center of LRLL where one piece is? yeah probably. Why else would Roger's crew begin laughing when they found out about one piece? because it's behind them. The creatures in LRLL are Joyboy creatures. It's all so obvious now in hindsight.

Its not a reach to call it a foreshadowing since imu is part of the end of one piece. He should be part of the original story as envisioned by oda in the beginning.
Well that depends on how much stock you put into oda. I genuinely dont think he had most the plot points figured out. I believe oda has since expanded and changed the ending. The original story was most likely way way different and much shorter.

It makes sense why devil fruit users become powerless and can't swim when they're in the sea. The ancient people of the one piece world manifested their dreams through devil fruits, probably to try to defeat Imu. Imu is the evil sea spirit and made its enemies (devil fruit users) powerless in the sea

The barrel Luffy pops out off is inspired by the cartoon Vicky the viking, however this theory could also be right, after all we do know that Oda had already decided how the end of One Piece will play out even from the beginning of One Piece. Imu is a character for the end game so I would not be suprised if Imu and the barrel have connection considering the japanese lore you just described.The end and beginning will share a common thread. I’m 9 months late lol, but it is also said the man marked by flames sails on a pitch black ship, which stylistically fits Imu’s alleged appearance. Laffitte also stated there were rumors that man was affiliated with the world government.
Main reason I’m hesitant though about Imu being that guy is just because he is supposed to be the world government’s biggest secret, known as far as we know only by Sabo and Wapol and whoever they may have told. How would people have such a widespread rumored description of Imu being “marked by flames” when only two other people (outside the gorosei) ever saw him? On top of that Wapol probably never even told anyone for fear of his own life which only leaves Sabo to spill the beans, and he probably didn’t get a chance to spill them until after the whole “marked by flames” thing was an established lore drop at the end of Wano. So as cool as it would be to Imu, I don’t see how it could be.

My theory about the 5 gorosei naming , might be connected the 3 weapons. Both together form 8 planets of the old structure and 8 of the twelve roman gods. likely the names of the fruit parallel the ancient weapon structure or pantheon. given that imu led the over throwing of nika and his apostles.

In chapter luffy also use a barrel to escape from a typhoon. Umibozu is backword of Imu. In One piece, the florian triangle have mist in it but Umibozu was in the Mist. I think Imu being the spirit of land is immensly likely. It adds up with theories about the ancient kingdom being the kingdom of pirates who control the oceans (water) and who are the lands antagonist.

So they sent Aokiji in the beggining, then cp9 and then Kuma which was more subtle.

My theory. I think the whirlpool in the biggining of the story is created by Dragon cause he maybe stoping Luffy to sail now that we know that Dragon actually visit Luffy from time to time. It might be true. And maybe Dragon is the man marked by Flame.

U do make a ton of sense an Umi-Bozu is literally a black widow looking sea spirit that was thought to die out at sea many years back soo u could say that this is true since Luffy just casually gets in a barrel to chuck it in the water when the whirlpool did hit his boat plus even when Sabo went into the Empty Throne Room and saw a similar black silhouette creature so yeh (consider it an Umi-Bozu and it looks like a freakin' creepy Yokai)
Oda-sensei really does like to foreshadow things like this in the manga and the anime but it really makes me satisfied even though Imu just looks the Nun *lol* 😎🤣
