Loved the reaction, from some Real old school heads! 😉 I'm 60, still rockin' it! Growing up, I learned to sing country, as well as R&B and rock. You know, typical '70's white guy with blue-eyed soul. 😊 Love and peace from NC

I assume everyone knows- Ian Gillan is on the Original Cast album of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. He's one of the best. Gillan and Glover were soon outta DP after this concert (IIRC). I was shocked when that happened. Enter Coverdale & Glenn Hughes (no slouch, either) The casino that burned down wiped out all of Zappa & The Mothers equipment.

This song is about a fire at a frank zappa concert that deep purple attended in switzerland while recording the album Machine Head. It was actually recorded in the hallway of the hotel with the rolling stones rented mobile recording unit.
Deep Purples band members were all very talented. If you get time check out their Made in Japan album from 1972. This is a live album. Nice reaction. Speaking of Jimi Hendrix check out his jam at the Cafe Au Go Go in N.Y. in 1968.This was a 50 min. hard blues jam with Paul Butterfield Buddy Miles on drums and a few other great players from that time. This is some of the best i ever heard Jimi play.
Here in the UK we learn that riff when were kids ( I'm 60 so i remember it when it charted) Deep Purple along with Black sabbath and led Zepp were the trifecta of 70s British heavy rock MUSIC.
@@thetruerockandrollpodcast6544 Hi guys watching from Scotland just watched the video of Big Mama doing ball and chain with Buddy Guy it was Awsome i just found a BBC documentary about Sister Rosetta Tharpe another woman who gave the music a kick in the right direction, i always knew and listened to Chicago blues but i never knew about these ladies till 20 years ago Wow powerful women and talking about the blues one british band stands above Clapton Page etc the great Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac my fav of the British bands of the late 60s also thanks for the kind words i will keep watching so keep the reactions coming.AWE THE BEST FRA SCOTLAND.
The government was going after Deep Purple for taxes saying though they recorded the album in Montreux they wrote the songs in England. This song proved otherwise. So the story goes anyhow. You three are great fun!
Yes between taxes and being unrecouped artists had to work a lot. Glad you are having fun watching us because we have fun together. Thanks again for watching. ☮🎵
As the story goes after the casino burned they could see the "Smoke on the Water" across Lake Geneva. They needed one more song for the album. The bass player, Roger Glover, came up with the title and some of the lyrics. There is a great video of them discussing how it all came about. I had this album back in high school back in '72. The seventies were still a carryover of the hippie movement of the sixties. Grunge didn't come about for two decades after this came out.
Thanks for the great comment. I will have to disagree about Grunge. It actually started in the early/mid 1980s. The style has elements of Punk and Metal and was a rejection of establishment values. But I was referring to the style of dress for the band and the audience which was very Dazed & Confused. In my humble option I think I can safely say that style and presentation were absent, and the focus was on the music alone more than creating an image.

Elton John - Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting) (Central Park, NYC 1980)
Why did the Beatles break up ? Firstly.......George was shy, not a great guitarist but the best they had by a big margin and probably the best song writer ( assuming they wrote the songs from The White Album and Rebolver onwards ). But both Paul and John only wanted their own songs on the albums, for the royalties and the kudos . Secondly.......they had to use session musicians for many of the recordings and often Eric Clapton on leed guitar. Thirdly......they stopped playing live because they couldn't without cheating. Using recorded music etc on tape and only performing the easy bits live. Fourthly.......Yoko Ono wanted John to be spiritual and HONEST. Deep Purple .......possibly the first Glam band I know of and their original singer was a POP singer. He was fired and Ian Gillan hired and they became a heavy / hard rock band The first to be heard playing what we called Heavy Metal here in Australia before we even heard of Black Sabbath or Led Zepplin. The best live Deep Purple is Sweet Child in Time recorded in a BBC studio for a children's pop music show......1970. The video is not the best quality, but the performance and music will blow your mind. Jon Lord was an accomplished pipe organ player and Hammond master. Ian Pace a jazz drummer and very underrated rock drummer......as good as anyone. Ritchie Blackmoore was so good he was a natural prima Donna. Ian Gillan one of the most vocally gifted rock singers ever with an unbelievable controlled vocal range. Check it out, but when it heats up you might need to protect your ears. lol
Thanks for the history! We love Child in Time or Sweet Child in Time? That's one that we want to do next time we do Deep Purple. And Jon Lord OMG! And he is the best looking old man! ☮🎵
@@thetruerockandrollpodcast6544 Child in Time sounds right, I think Sweet Child is more Guns n Roses. lol When you do Child in Time, make sure it is the 1970 or 1971 ( was definitely one of those years ) from the BBC tv studios.....with an audience of kids who look like they were expecting The Monkees or The Wriggles. The kids were not expecting loud rock with classical organ and guitar riffs. lol
