American cars have already become malaise. Where, instead of offering plenty of affordable and underwhelming cars available of all kinds with , you have a handful of cool premium vehicles that no one can afford and everyone is buying korean or japanese. And of those special vehicles, a good chunk of them are track/offroad toys, enourmous SUVs and electric luxury cars that are already on their way out.

Automobiles have altered human society, the big 3 have meddled not only with governments around the world, but the very way we as humans live and interact, and I think people are just fed up with it. The pros that automobiles offer seem to be losing its luster. People are generally becoming smarter, and people want better quality of life which automobiles might not be offering anymore. For a tool to be valuable, it has to not be a burden. Would anyone buy a hammer that constantly breaks, costs a huge mark up? No.... If you want people to LOVE cars you have to make card LOVEABLE. You to make tools that are affordable, reliable first and foremost before anything else. If people are in debt and can't reliably get to work or to important events then people will become bitter no matter what you make. I can kinda respect Henry Ford, but even he was shady and did some bad shit. Automobiles are so greedy and complex that they are inherently built on exploitation. Beyond Henry Ford, the big 3 have screwed the American people for like a century now.

The US Auto Industry is going the same way as the British Auto Industry in the 1990s and 2000s, when many of its great brands were sold to BMW (Rolls Royce, Mini, Land Rover/Range Rover), Volkswagen (Bentley), Ford (Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin), SAIC (MG). Later on, Tata (Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar), Bahrain (McLaren), Geely (Lotus), and a bunch of investors for Aston Martin. Ford might remain American, but General Motors will probably be sold to the Chinese, and Dodge and Chrysler will be gone. We are currently undergoing “The American Disease.” Poor management, poor quality, bad labor relations, the lack of innovation inside the Big 3, and short sighted decision making.

The best American Car ever is the Mustang especially the classics (Shelby GT350s and GT500s and Mustang Fastbacks 1967-1968), beautiful and powerful. Corvette is something cool but the European sports cars just look more classy and beautiful. My generation (Gen Z) once we get the money will be buying foreign luxury cars. I could see both Cadillac and Lincoln going out because Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Lexus have a large portion of the luxury market along with a rising Genesis, Porsche, and Acura (Honda reliability). People are buying Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, Subarus, Hyundais/KIAs, and Mazdas for affordability and reliability. People trust Toyotas and Hondas because they run forever.
The same happened in Australia. It’s all gone including the associated parts manufacturing, engineering talent, designers ect. Dodge and Chrysler have already gone, they’re now part of Stellantis.
It was one of the dumbest moves to stop making the cars like first focus and fusion . What were those clowns thinking ? The trucks are way to expensive and get bad fuel mileage I don’t want to own an overpriced truck with every luxury function known to man .
Dave, yes, I remember when Ford announced that they were going to stop the production of their smaller line of cars. I remember thinking to myself that is not a good idea. Don't forget that not too long ago the F150 was of a sensible size and price. What they have now, the tires are so large the whole truck must be made bigger. Contractors who actually need pickup trucks are looking for older models that can carry things and not a vehicle so overpriced.
I have seen people buying the older former government vehicles because they’re cheaper and smaller. I believe there is a website where you can purchase used government fleet vehicles. However, the big question is then reliability because I don’t think those vehicles are well taken care of 😂
One of the big things not talked about is demographics. By getting rid of cars from their lineup, they're hemoraging younger buyers who are flocking to Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai. Those are future customers that Ford won't have in the future. As people get older their buying power increaces, meaning that as Gen Z gets older they won't be buying Explorers and F150s, they'll be buying Tacomas and Acuras. Ford is ironically following in the footsteps of Harley Davidson.
Jacob, you bring up an excellent point and I will use this when I do a series on "Death of the American Car" (may not be the title of the video but it will be something similar). Ford seems to be only focused on government and fleet sales. I really think they give zero care for their main customers and only about easy sales. Gen Z buyers are gonna go to foreign brands hands down. I know one Gen Z dude who has American and he LOVES trucks and so he owns a GM. Makes sense. I said the same thing when GM got rid of Pontiac instead of Buick. Pontiac was basically the American equivalent to Scion and would keep younger buyers interested in GM. Instead they kept a mid-luxary brand whose primary buyer was retirement age and has had to have a continuous ad campaign trying to rebrand Buick as something younger people might want ever since.
Tacoma instead of F-150? Aren't they both pickup trucks? So, they have $$$ for a Tacoma, but not a Maverick or even Ranger? As F-150 is equivalent to Tundra.

The problem for a lot of consumers is that the auto makers used to make a sensible car and no longer do. For example, Ford had the Escort, the Taurus, and for large families the Country Squire and Crown Victoria, with Lincoln for the expensive sedans and a reasonable size pickup truck. Why didn't they keep making that? Not enough money?

I really liked Ford when I was a kid. I expected the first new car I would buy to be a Focus ST. When they discontinued their passenger cars I felt betrayed, and have hated Ford ever since then.

I don't understand something. Majority of buyers want crossovers, so they respond to that demand. Then, we hear crying how they're betraying people for a product they don't want. ??????????? Why would they discontinue something that sells well?
@@bmw803 it’s a farce. Buyers are only buying crossovers because that’s all that’s available. They stopped selling sedans because they couldn’t match regulatory demands for the segment. But if you sell a “crossover” then you technically meet the regulatory requirements. Check out those laws, it’s a pretty wild. -Brandon

They convinced people they were the "cool automotive heratige of our country, and it makes you a tough rugged person", so people drop luxury prices on a work truck that can haul more weight than everything they own. Added benefits for the manufacturer are lower emissions standards, less competition from foreign companies, and higher profit margins. It's all marketing that makes us think we all want larger cars.
The thing that has always stuck to me about ford is the fact that when Ford has an reliable, cheap and not a bad car which is loved by many it gets killed immediatly and not returned with a newer and better generation. Maybe it's just a Ford Europe thing.

Though I am a hardcore Ford Europe so I might not have the full answer to it. But if you compare the old Ford europe to todays Ford europe it's quite the tragedy. So many good models that had huge potential for a new generation gone. Sure the courier is interesting but there isn't much else other than the vans and mediocre crossovers.
Yeah man I think you are totally right, Ford Europe is not even close to what they could be. I was just in Germany a few months ago and some Europeans I talked to said they didn't like American cars because the quality. @@A-BombEnergy Im from Sweden I have grown up with Ford mondeos. And despite them being good cars they have had problems like with the flexifuel engine. Which couldnt even handle what it was built for which was running on both ethanol and gasoline. It could only run on gasoline completely fine whilst if it ran on ethanol it would lead to the engine clogging up. Not on the first time ofc. But you know it's pretty bad. Then there is the issue with the position lights on the 2016 mondeo as in they are fragile and a nightmare to replace. The mechanics who had to deal with it said it was awful and they literally had to remove alot of the front of the car itself just to replace them. Otherwise besides the mediocre interior build quality I still love them. And the same goes for older europe fords.

You're ignoring the most important player in this whole drama: The Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA is deliberately forcing gas/diesel vehicles into extinction with their unachievable CAFE requirements, and shoving EVs down our throats. The automakers can't satisfy both the EPA's rules and customers' desires, which is why we have such a screwed up auto market, from whatever angle you look at.
I hear you and totally agree with most of what you say. My only rebuttal is how is Toyota, Honda, Subaru, VW, BMW, and many other car brands able to compete in market? I think Toyota has got to be the only manufacturer not leaning into EVs and I think that’s awesome. They see the writing on the wall. From my research and correct me if I’m wronged brother, but these American brands are doing this because they take so much govt. money that they have to create EVs and do exactly what they say or the subsidy hose gets turned off. @@A-BombEnergy I think the answer lies in between the video points and the EPA... if the govt (here in Canada and in the USA with you) would stop being so involved with tampering with market forces and blanket banning things that are the only functional and usable technology at scale for 90% of people (ICE vehicles), then things would go much better. Even the EV crowd has to admit that there are enough people who like Teslas that the EV market won't just evaporate any time soon. When the tech is ready, the prices come down to where I can afford it, and I can be sure the batteries do not have blood cobalt in them, then and only then will I buy a second car which is an EV and keep my manual transmission gas car for the weekends and road trips... but seeing as how I'm rather poor, I figure that by the time I have the cash for that, then the major issues will be more or less solved and it will basically be choosing a drive train for how you use the vehicle (short jaunts=EV, Long or heavy work or without access to chargers=ICE).

Aren’t many of the Japanese brands made in the United States? But I think that Toyota is transitioning some of their production to Mexico if I am thinking correctly. Truth back as far as the 90's. Had a 91 Ford Escort POS, made in Mexico. The only reason it still ran is because it had a Mazda designed engine., Currently still have my 97 Honda Civic, made in the USA.

I remember hearing a story about a state trooper who had a second job, installing garage doors. His truck was going bad and he needed another one. He was part of the "Buy American" crowd. WAS being a key word and you'll find out why in a minute. Went to the Dodge dealership. The Rams were very expensive, including the thirsty V8's. Tried to negotiate, they said the price is firm. Goes to a Chevy dealership. Parks in "Customers ONLY" space. Someone tells him to move the vehicle. He tells him he is a customer; he's shopping for a new car. They still tell him he can't park there: he leaves. Goes to a Ford dealership. Salesmen can't be bothered with him and can't get an appointment for a test drive. Flashes the badge and police ID and asks if he can test drive alone. He's a COP - not like he's going to steal the truck or anything. "Nope, no can do. Salesmen MUST accompany customers. Guy goes to a Toyota dealership. Sees the new Tacomas. They're 6 cylinders, he wants a V8. Saleswoman said "they're as fast and as powerful as a V8. Drive it with the air conditioning on (A.C. saps engine horsepower). Try it for a week; we'll have a mechanic throw in a bed liner. You like it, come in and we'll talk numbers." The truck cost $40,000. Unbeknownst to anybody, he already had $30,000 in CASH. The week he used the truck, he got the remaining $10,000. Showed up at the Toyota dealership, bought the truck, told her the story. He said he usually doesn't buy imports, but he gave the Big 3 a chance and they all blew it. Now he says he's either sticking with Toyota or any Japanese car company.
had a similar experience a decade ago when I needed a new car with zero credit. Everybody turned me down they were all ignorant and snobish SOB's. Nobody gave me chance so I went into a nissan dealer and walked out with a used sentra. This was over 11 yrs ago. Built my credit from there and bought a frontier since.
@@A-BombEnergy I saved $5,000 in interest simply by paying off my car in 2 years with a hefty down payment. Car note was $200/mth; I paid double and threw the Christmas money and IRS checks on top. Ain't no way a repo man was going to take away what I spent good money on. Times were a little tight those two years, but after the title deed arrived in the mail, the dough flowed back into my pocket.

@A-BombEnergy The solution is to stop giving these private companies public money and just let them run themselves. NOBODY should be able to depend on john Taxpayer to fund private companies' interest. No company should be "too big to fail." If they fail they fail. If they want to expand get a bank loan, or put in your own cash. Did they ever get rid of the worthless middle manager positions in these companies when times get tough? How many times have these companies said that a raise isn't feasible while paying out millions to the ceo? Run your company however you like take your risk. The regular man isn't going to be your safety net.

You know these are loans, right? Corporations pay back taxpayers with interest. It's only when a corp. goes bankrupt that the taxpayer doesn't get their money back. The reason why most companies start in the USA is because other countries throw people in prison who can't pay their debts, including rent, car and credit card payments, so people over there don't even try. And Henry Ford was not a patriot. He was a Nazi sympathizer who said he wasn't going to change production for the war effort. FDR had to force nationalizing Ford. Only then did Henry Ford capitulate to keep family control of Ford instead of having the govt control his company. You people need to study history.

Excellent video! A lot of the problem with American auto manufacturers is they are not listening to what their customers want, need, and can afford. $50,000 plus for a pickup is absolutely insane.

@@A-BombEnergy Wow! I knew Jeeps and Chrysler was bad, just not that bad! This same short sided vision is what took Navistar down. Had they listened to their customers and engineers, Navistar/IH would still be with us. Another case of sales overriding engineering which started the IH downward spiral in the 1950's, and ended with the Maxxforce engine emissions scandal. Poor management plain and simple! I am surprised at some of the warranties that Korean brands are offering. In my previous video, which was on Jeep, I showed some of the crazy support they are offering to their customers. I’ve heard this comment all too often my friend. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you but they did. Almost 6 billion and in fact they just paid that off. Fords PR team did a great job at hiding this. My fault for not explaining it in detail. I made a response video to this explaining how they did it. In a nutshell, they took 6 billion from DoE and the terms were almost identical to Chrysler and GMs bailout. There were only minor differences. Yeah man it seems to be a common trend within the industry to try to revive these old iconic models/trends and absolutely ruin what they stand for. It’s such a shame. They’re way too much money for way too little vehicle and ever since Chrysler obtain them they’ve gone downhill from the old AMC days I think if AMC could’ve held out and stayed in business with the Jeep the dates still be around today, if only to sell jeeps, and other SUVs based on the jeep chassis, more than likely.
Geniune thanks for bringing up the one argument that most people talking about EV's refuse too: their environmental impact and reliance on toxic matierials from companies and areas with horrific human-rights issues. We arent fixing the environment with EV's, were just exporting our problems elsewhere. We have one of the largest lithium deposits in the world on our own soil, ever thought about why we dont mine it?

The main takeaway I see is government intervention. If Ford was not bailed out they would have either A. Gone bankrupt and died as a company. B. Actually kick themselves in the ass again and get back to serving the customer. But na, big daddy government needs to put their slimy hands into everything we have.

Another stupid decision was the discontinuation of the Ford Edge which had been built in Oakville Ontario since 2007 and ended just this May of 2024. It was a solid SUV and has many loyal buyers who had bought several over the years. They plan to turn the Oakville plant into an EV plant which is the stupidist of moves. I really feel sorry for the workers , they got totally screwed over.
John, Canadian made cars seem to be one of the best. My Dodge charger was made in Canada and whilst it has a terrible engine I somehow got lucky or the Canadian manufacturer did an excellent job building it. I tend to think the manufacturer did an awesome job. I am really sad to hear about the conversion of that plant. @@A-BombEnergy Hi Brandon , yes Canadian and live about 2 hours from the Oakville plant. I'm only 45 minutes from Where the Talbotville plant was that produced the Ford and Mercury full size models that the police and taxi's loved, was a shame when it closed too. I don't know if CDN built is better , the Edge was a good one with the exception of certain issues that were worked out after the 2018 year. It'd be what a good and bad model vehicle are from the get go and how well the company deals with issues which are too damn slow and due to poor engineering and R&D research and testing. I was a mechanic from the early 70's to late 80's and saw a lot of changes in the industry. Hard to say what the future holds for us but I know an EV is not on my shopping list at this time.
Ford needs to make a good 2-door single cab work truck with 1. Manual windows, mirrors, and locks 2 AC 3 Bluetooth radio (just a radio not touch screen bullshit) 4 8 foot bed That's it and make it cheap
Buck, I personally would love that. I think they would sell more than 5 of them lol. Unfortunately, there are a lot of regulations preventing them from doing this...i.e., backup camera. Yeah man a lot of the "tech" that is in cars is in there by law, another example is TPMS sensors. I have those in my 09 Charger and they are so irritating. I have had to replace them like 3 times. At one point when I was broke, I just let me ding away because I couldn't afford 400 dollars for the second time that year. I bet that Ranger will last forever. How long have you had it?

My buddy is an engineer at Ford. About a year ago, he and I were guessing that a big crash, like what happened to the housing market, is coming for the car market. I wish I remembered some of the details we were thinking about then. When that time comes, I'm sure it'll be another bailout.

I think the biggest problem is the loan term limits. The availability to finance a car for a very long term jacks the prices up cause the payment is more manageable over 7-10 years now.

Seeing as the middle-class are being out-priced from new cars and sticking with a used vehicle I hope that this causes sales figures to suffer enough for GM and Ford to make positive changes. My parents actually bought a new car for the first time back in 2018 that they still own, it was a base Mazda 2 and a worthy investment seeing that the prices for them skyrocketed after the pandemic. Why? Because most people want simple and affordable cars. Ford made a huge mistake doing away with their Focus and Fiesta models. Tldr: Keep most cars simple, reliable, and cheaper than the competition

The reason car companies, except Tesla are still building electric cars even though they're losing their ass is our friggin government and the Biden administration forcing this down their throats which is in turn is forcing these down our throats. At least both my 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 211,000 miles and my 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 162,000 miles on it are both running strong and not having any issues unlike the Modern F150s.

I think the modern V8 is doing pretty well, but I can’t speak for everything else. I know there has been issues with the eco-boost and some of the hybrid models. A Ford 302 V8 along with the 300 inline 6 are easily one of the most durable engines that ever came out of FoMoCo. Things started to slip through the cracks once they started making OHC engines..

Ford spends $4 BILLION a year on warranty work. I own a 2019 Lincoln MKC and the car is practically perfect. But they ought to take their heads out of their rear ends and fix this warranty work problem.

I have almost 30,000 miles on the car. I want to keep it to at least 200,000 miles. I change the oil more frequently than is required. They built the car extremely well. The fit and finish is excellent Any problems that i have with it basically cure themselves. I have no complaints about it. It's the perfect size for me because it's based on the Ford Escape.
You know, I think the secret to keeping cars longer is by doing more frequent oil changes. Do you do them every 3-5k miles? I don't let mine get over 5k miles. My BMW and Jeep say to change every 10k miles, YEAH RIGHT lol. Not happening. I am glad you are happy with your car, thats what this is all about, being happy with your purchase.

And to add insult to injury, the big 3 has been crying foul to the feds in order to stop 25y/o kei trucks from imported into the U.S. from overseas. Whether it's the chicken tax, or 'safety concerns, they don't care! They just don't want ppl to have the option of owning a small truck. b/c they know they'll lose sales to them. I understand the kei trucks are not for everyone, but they do fill a certain niche.
Its crazy, I understand the chicken tax to a certain degree but this is not what the free markets are supposed to be. These automakers need to have their core rocked so they can provide us with better products. I am tired of them rinsing people. What do you think the solution to all this madness is? Ford was Ford until they mostly closed off their Rouge plant along with outsourcing various parts that are manufactured by a different entity all together. Almost any FoMoCo product from the 70’s and up had almost every nut and bolt made at the Rouge plant since Ford was vertically integrated which means they bought up the various supply chains and such, would have been no worries about supply chain disruptions and shortages. I’m almost considering buying 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 body shells, have them analyzed, see what it would take to make cars what people actually want (i.e no frills transportation, modest price) and not what these companies and the government thinks that’s what people want, but in reality no one wants. Ultimately, it’s the government who ruined the auto industry, been 49 years in the making since CAFE was introduced (can take a hike for all I care) which has caused quality to drop, caused a loophole where they can produce gas guzzling SUVs and trucks.

You sound knowledgeable, you mention Cafe laws or government interference, but as I am to understand it cafe laws EXIST because the big 3 lobbied the government because they were scared of Japanese competition in the small truck market. What are your opinions on that? Japan was releasing small, economical trucks. Ford and Chevy responded with the Ranger and S10, but from what I am to understand those still didn't sell well compared to Japanese counterparts. So the big 3 lobbied for these cafe laws which basically killed these small trucks allowing the big 3 to focus on the larger more profitable big trucks and SUVs. No American company wants to make cheap, reliable vehicles. I bet Ford hated every Ranger that rolled out of the factory because they knew that truck could last 50+ years, eating into their profits. For some reason Japan is willing to offer good value products, like they did with the early Nissan trucks, early Tacomas, and other small Japanese trucks even before those. Japan was the true victim of the cafe laws IMO, and of course us as well as consumers. You sound knowledgeable though so I wonder what your thoughts are on that? I could be wrong.
@@hhjhj393 learned most of this stuff from a video series that Rare Classic Cars & Automotive History did awhile back 2 years ago, along with a series about the Malaise Era done by Ed’s Auto Reviews about 2 years ago as well. I don’t think the big three lobbied against CAFE (later on, more than likely), CAFE was enacted in 1975 as a response to the oil embargo of 1973. The goal was to make the average fuel economy 27 MPG by the time the mid 80’s came around. Unfortunately, it lead to the big 3 (mainly GM) to produce some stinkers which turned off consumers such as the Chevy Vega which had a engine made out of aluminum with Teflon coated cylinders (it didn’t take long for the Teflon to wear off) that would consume a quart of oil every 60 to 100 miles. Another thing that turned off consumers was the air filter was built into a assembly, you couldn’t just replace the filter, had to replace the ENTIRE air cleaner assembly since the filter was built in. Ford’s Pinto was definitely better than the Vega, but had the issue with it catching fire in the early 70’s when rear ended hard enough. The later Ford Pinto in the 70’s was Fox-body based (same as the Mustang and Fairmont) so it didn’t have that problem. As for Chrysler, they didn’t offer any sort of economy cars at all, offered a few midsize cars, but no economy cars until after the bailout of 1979, 2 years later they introduced their K-Car platform which had great potential, but corrosion protection was a afterthought, didn’t rust proof them later on. On the flip side, got great fuel mileage (better than some cars today) and had room for 6 people. The reason why SUVs and trucks exploded in popularity in the 70’s and 80’s is they were exempt from the CAFE regulations since they literally were used off road by park rangers, or on private property so it didn’t make sense to make them comply, they weren’t driven as much on public roads back then. As soon as people realized SUVs and trucks had the power of something from the 1960’s, more and more people started to buy them as time marched on in the 80’s and 90’s. As for CAFE, every class of vehicles is subjected to different standards. Cars for example, have more stringent standards for fuel economy such as 40 or 50 MPG. Small trucks are subjected to the same fuel economy standards as well. Large SUVs and trucks have more lenient standards, but are otherwise there. Automakers use that loophole to make and sell oversized SUVs and trucks which drink more fuel than some cars from the 1960’s, a Ford Excursion from the early to mid 2000’s with the Triton V10 would get 8 to 9 MPG while a mid 60’s Ford Galaxie 500 with 289 V8 would get 14 city, 18 to 19 highway, though you could bump the fuel economy up to 16 city, 20 highway with a 4 speed transmission and upgraded the axel ratio to keep the RPMs on the lower side increasing fuel economy not to mention reducing engine wear and tear.
@@A-BombEnergy basically would be reproducing a car that’s been out of production for almost 60 years, no one would be able to claim patent infringement since it’s patents and copyright have been expired for a long, long time. Got the idea from my grandfather in a conversation we had awhile back where he mentioned “someone should bring back the Checker cars that were used as taxi cabs, they would sell millions of them”. Reason why I’d use a ‘66 Ford full sized body shell is it’s a simple, contemporary design which has stood the test of time, basically was styled by Elwood Engle who did the ‘61 Lincoln Continental. However, I’d beef up the frame with a x-brace since that’s how the Checker frame was, beef up anything and everything that could be beefed up for extra durability and reliability. I may sound like a old man, but the truth is I am 25. Just want to offer something the big 3 has abandoned long, long ago. Seems as though it’s been the same thing for the past 30 or so years. I have nothing against technology since I am apart of the Gen Z demographic, but when you put technology for the sake of putting technology in, it causes confusion, reduces reliability, last but not least increases cost. If you keep things as simple and basic as much as possible, improve it year after year, you’ll end up with something people will want. Of course, people will make the argument “if they still made things like they did 60 years ago, things would be outrageously expensive” and there is some truth to that argument, but if items like incandescent light bulbs (a old technology) have been in production for over 100 years, the cost goes down as time marches on with the combination on automation and economies of scale. If Ford kept the same cars since 1966, but only changed the technology in terms of automation and economies of scale in terms of production, they probably would be selling in the $25,000 to $30,000 price range and sure it wouldn’t have the technology or features of a contemporary Honda or Toyota, but if it has the ability to carry 6 people, has a trunk with lots of room for luggage, comfortable, modest price, it would be a better buy since you are basically getting more car for dollar than something else available. Another argument people will make is safety and that has some continuity to it, but if you really think about it, everything is all relative to the time and era it was produced. The ‘66 full sized Fords didn’t came with any safety equipment other than seatbelts, padded dashboard, but one area of safety they were better in especially with the 4 door hardtops was in outward visibility. Modern vehicles are atrocious for outward visibility and the amount of blindspots they have to the outside, I’m sure people in the future (if cars and trucks revert back to wrap around windshields and rear windows) will say “cars of the 2010’s and 2020’s were dangerous since they had terrible visibility and blindspots”, it’s all relative at the end of the day. Last but not least is in the area of serviceability, you can’t make repairs to modern and newer vehicles without loosing your mind. If the blend doors in the dashboard go bad for the HVAC controls, the ENTIRE dashboard has to come apart which will be thousands in labor. Many older vehicles for example from the 1960’s used cables to charge the various modes where you want the air to come out, if the cable binds up or gets stiff, a few drops of oil and 5 to 10 minutes time will correct that issue, same is true for manual window mechanisms which need to be lubricated every now and again.
Brother, I think you should seriously look into doing this. People every day have million dollar ideas but won't execute the task. There is a company in California that makes replica old mustangs, awesome BUT they are insanely expensive and I believe the design them for ultra wealthy, which is cool. Your grandpa sounds like a smart guy and sounds like he did you right. Thats awesome, 25 and thinking like this. You are going to be a successful guy. The only snag I could see you having is government regulations, however, if its sold as a replica, I think you can skirt that. Look into that though brother. I hear you on the safety aspect but honestly, have you seen the safety ratings of today? Its pretty wild in my opinion, they aren't amazing. And I care about safety but I am also down with letting people chose if they want to wear a seat belt or not. You know what I mean? My big takeaway from this is that we should stop subsidizing the industry, particularly the push for EVs. A forced transition to EVs is a burden to taxpayers and vehicle owners, and frankly it's incentivizing stupid behavior from the automakers.

A big one you should have mentioned was that after they received all that "not a bailout" money, they turned around and built an engine plant in Mexico to manufacture the 6.7 liter Powerstorke diesel engine. The engine and transmission create more jobs that all the rest of the vehicle and the 6.7 Powerstroke is a major job creator.... for Mexico. Even GM builds their 6.6 Duramax in Ohio, yet Ford couldn't be bothered to build theirs in the US.

I haven't viewed Ford as an American company since the late '90s when they outsource/off shored IT jobs. If the American worker isn't good enough for Ford than Ford isn't good enough for Americans.

I find it hard to understand how these car companies are getting it so wrong when they have so many resources to research what the market wants. You can bet the people that make the decisions still get their bonuses while the people that actually build the cars get laid off.

The issue. The big three are making cars no one wants, for prices most can't afford, because the government is pushing them to do it. The other issue with the big three is, they are only alive because they were bailed out in one way or another... they didn't suffer the same fate as companies like Packard when they could no longer make money.

@@A-BombEnergy I think we may not fix this issue for quite a while. People are too compliant with the government, people are too brainwashed with the idea cars need to be luxury status symbols that you can purchase with mortgages. I think this is the direction things need to go, to fix the problem we will need to ignore or vote out or …remove… people in government that make things harder, and the auto makers need to go broke until they make what consumers can afford and want for fair prices. It’s an issue that to really fix requires multiple approaches, consumers need to stop being stupid, producers need to stop being greedy, and the government needs to know their own place, minding their own damn business.

Isn’t that a wild thing? Ford literally has the key to making a profitable margin and solve a big problem but yet they don’t want to lean into it. I know plenty of guys that want a truck, but they don’t want big trucks. Some bought Mavericks and some bought the gladiator. What do you think of the Ford Maverick?
I think they wasted the opportunity to sell a bunch of them. The demand was there but who wants to wait a year/6months. Of course they’re steadily raising price on it now but that’s expected as it’s market wide.
Honestly, what I think they did is they applied the tactic of fear of missing out and that there is scarcity within that segment. It’s a marketing tactic. But I think they push the envelope too far because now people don’t really want to wait that long.
I am no expert, but I have always noticed that Ford tends to be the more expiremental company. Like Ford will always be the first ones to try something new, then after a while Chevy will follow. Even back in the day Ford bragged about their fuel injected engines while Chevies were still carburated, I think that's why if you look at old Fords they will have giant FUEL INJECTED moldings on their aluminum intakes lol. That being said Ford has completely gone insane. From what I am to understand though Ford still makes good trucks. Their new 5.0 is a good engine, their diesels are still excellent. Ford's just gone insane with complexity. I think Ford has been notorious for having lots of "packages" and lots of different parts for a while now, but perhaps now it's just gone absolutely insane. All automobiles are simply too expensive and too complex right now. People like me are just gonna keep driving 30 year old f150s until they rust away.
I think you are right in your assessment, I am not expert either but it sounds to be right from my automotive knowledge/experience. And you are totally right about their trucks, that Coyote engine is amazing and I am glad they didn't get rid of it. I heard that years ago they wanted to. Well, I am just going to keep on driving and enjoying my 2002 Ford F-350 XLT Power Stroke Crew Cab with only 38,258mi on it from when I bought it new in the fall of 2001. My truck - by diesel standards - is still "new" and is in mint, garaged, condition. Never hauled or towed anything with it. It will cruise at 80mph smooth on the interstate all day long. Excellent factory, Philco symphony sound system. Never a single problem with it. Just regularly scheduled maintenance. Cost new: $39,808.00. Today, that amount would not even be enough for a down payment on a new, inferior-built, aluminum-bodied, Ford F-350. I am so glad I have mine instead.😅
Mark, thats a beautiful truck and you are very lucky to own that bad boy. Such low miles too, I can tell you care for it. I cannot understand why they are going so wild with these prices, I have ideas why but that's a whole other video. I could probably talk for hours on that. Its interesting you bring up the aluminum body, I have spoken to some people and they LOVE them and some have a strong distaste for them. Personally, I think its a good idea but I would rather have a steel frame and just keep it clean to prevent it from rusting. Why do you think they went with aluminum bodies? MPG? @@A-BombEnergy Thank you, Brandon. Ford went to all-aluminum bodies for weight savings. GM and Dodge are following very soon, if they haven't already. Ford claimed it saves more than 350 pounds off of the overall weight of the trucks. BUT.......they do not tell you that all of the body shop technicians had to go back to school to learn about the brittleness and difficult repair and costs of aluminum bodies. Independent insurance labs put the new, aluminum bodies to the test by taking the previous years' steel body versus the new aluminium body by bashing them in the rear bedside. It cost $450.00 to repair the steel body. It cost $800.00 to repair the aluminium body! Almost double! The major insurance companies really frowned on that and jacked up insurance rates on aluminium-bodied trucks and cars. Plus, look closely at the build details of the new aluminum-bodied Ford trucks compared to the 2008 and back steel-bodied trucks. The new aluminum trucks no longer have the graceful, seamless, aircraft doors that extend into the roof. They cannot fold the aluminum like they can steel. Aluminum does not hold paint well at all either. It eventually peels and chips very easily. I live in Texas where we have tennis-sized hail storms, too. No aluminum truck will ever stand up to that! Mine did one time, about 6 years ago just exposed to the front a little. But it took that hail with NO damage.
Mark, thanks for sharing this information with me. I went a looked some of this up for further info and I am surprised by this decision. The crash tests were very interesting to say the least. Mixed data but still interesting. And I have seen the aluminum paint issues with Jeep guys...stuff is bad with certain models. Just shocking...

I see Chinese automakers coming in and absolutely destroying the big 3 in the coming years once the Biden tariffs are gone. BYD is so much cheaper with EVs than ford ever will be and people are gonna *eat* Chinese EVs given they are actually affordable. I see Chinese ICE cars coming in and getting the extra budget market with sub-$15K cars as well. The U.S. auto industry is *cooked* between cheaper Chinese cars and Toyota being Toyota and me wanting a Lexus rather than a Cadillac if I ever had that money.
Yeah man, I think you are totally correct in that assessment. Who knows if the Chinese auto manufacturers are going to come to the US or not. Well, I am not a fan of Chinese products. I think however it is probably necessary for Chinese cars to come to the US market. Domestic auto makers need to learn what competition really is. I totally agree. What's with the weird Chinese hate? Especially for a part like a lithium ion battery that won't spy on you. If CATL can manufacture batteries at scale and more efficiently than American manufacturers, it's in everyone's interests to buy from them. You spoke ill of protectionism and the subsidies Ford is getting. Yet Chinese batteries coming to the US and ramping up competition is a bad thing?
I don’t like our funds funding a government that has openly stated we are the enemy of China. China is also conducting economic warfare around the globe and wants to essentially make the world dependent upon them. Whether you realize it or not, China is a quiet enemy of the US. Therefore, we shouldn’t be funding them. Remember, every company in China is an extension of their government. Read the book Unrestricted Warfare, it’s written by Chinese generals and they state how they will destroy America. What Ford and other battery manufacturers are doing is playing right into their hand. Additionally, I am kind of against slave labor, not really a cool thing to do and China is all about it. Hence why they execute 4000 plus people yearly. Also, how do you know a better doesn’t have spyware in it? There are tons of computers attached to a battery. Chinese manufacturers have also been caught stashing spyware items in simple things like thermostats, routers, and light bulbs (that’s according to the FBI). If you need more reasons, let me know brother. Be happy to provide them. I’m all about competition but not when it’s funding a group that is trying to destroy us. Thanks for watching.

Have recently bought a 67 mustang & a 61 f100 in an effort to familiarize myself with the mechanics on widely familiar, simple platforms, as well as avoid the nefarious intents of the modern companies here in NA as you so poignantly demonstrated. My own nightmare with my old 16 Fusion was enough to dissuade me from modern cars all together. I had intentions of making the truck electric, but as I'm educating myself more, I'm seeing the value of these old V8's, not to mention the interchangeability and ease of access for parts. We'll see, but in the meantime, I commend you on your endeavors sir, you have solid analytics for a solid approach to the platform and i couldn't be more excited for you. Your effort shows and its appreciated. I’ll be here as long as you are, so stay safe out there, for both our sakes!

Jack, I didn’t know EMS vehicles were going with hybrids. That’s VERY concerning. I wonder if it’s mainly in cities or localized areas? Do you happen to know? The crown Vic was one of the best cars they made, in my opinion at least. I knew a police officer who was issued one new and put over 300k miles on it. You know, even in the 70s, there was a quality to the big 3, and long before that is pure quality, their was always a man making the car. But nowadays, it's quantity over quality. And almost every American car company can be put with that sentence.
Its amazing how we can't go back to that. I mean we could but then it would destroy their quantity. If I remember correctly, BMW when they make cars has master builder run his hand over every single inch of the car to ensure that its built correctly. @@A-BombEnergy I've seen the Jeep video as well (I like that one too,) and I feel kinda sorry for the people who own new jeeps. And the BMW thing is absolutely true. I'm on the hunt for my first personal car and found an old BMW 325I from 1989. However, many say that "It's nothing but trouble," and I understand why, but I have a saying that isn't really a saying and it's "If it could survive then, it can survive now." And if we were to do quality over quantity again, the longevity of a car would have been Astronomical with the technology and with safety. We could have had a new Jeep CJ that would have actually lasted forever, and a new electric Ford Thunderbird for the masses and because the name makes sense. But here we are. Chrysler, GM, and Ford are about to go broke.

@@A-BombEnergy That's just it, they don't, look at the cars that Honda sells abroad in volume and notice they aren't on American roads. And as for Tesla, they sell because the US government subsidises them, which is why states see sales nosedive when their cars stop qualifying for the subsidies. Then again there's also that image of buying a Tesla that somehow still seems to be mildly prestigious despite Tesla's consistent position at the bottom of quality metrics due to their unparalleled shobby quality.

The first time I have heard about this New Plant is from this Video. Ford has been working on a Massive Battery plant near me in Marshal MI. The Property was a huge corn field near the Highway .. Many People were totally against the Plant.. They didn't want good paying jobs and a huge boost to a small Town Economy. Also there is a Chinese Investment or Chinese Battery technology going to be used at this plant. Also it was going to be Non Union. So now you have Union Mafia against it. Ground was broken over a year ago. Millions in Tax breaks were offered. With the Huge Decline in Demand for EV's I did a search recently and learned that they are cutting the size and scope of the planned Factory in half for now. Things are not getting any better with Bidenflation

@@A-BombEnergy Tax breaks is another way the Government picks winners and Loosers. Tesla I know has gotten like $14 Billion in Tax breaks and incentives. Joe Biden does not like Elan Musk and Tesla has not gotten many kick backs since Bejing Biden has been President.
@@A-BombEnergy Incentives Michigan’s stake in the Marshall deal totals about $2 billion in incentives, including a local tax break worth about $772 million, $330 million for road upgrades, and a $210,000 job-creation grant that would go directly to Ford once it hires at the facility. The incentives include an initial state award in February, followed by multiple additions, including legislative actions. Beyond that, nearly a half-million dollars have been awarded to MAEDA for its role in acquiring property for the megasite. Other tax breaks are expected by the time the factory opens.
You couldn’t give me a lightning, but Ive had 8 different f series trucks over the years. The most recent a 22 f150 and all of those pickups have been rock solid in reliability. I’m still driving my 24 year old super duty everyday.
Yeah the F-150's and really F-Series aside from the lightning are pretty dang solid. Everything else they make....jeeesh idk what they are thinking. I am not sure how they can't take the same engineering concepts and apply it to their other models. Is it really that hard lol? So many things kill me about Ford. They are capable of building decent vehicles, but even when they do, they just discontinued them. My mother has had two Transit Connect vans and has loved them both. While not perfect vehicles, they have been solid with regular maintenance. The first new product Ford introduced, the Maverick, was a pretty exciting as a concept- an affordable truck with a hybrid system! I hoped that, after a few years, the tech would mature and (maybe) Ford would have a winner on their hands. Now I can find a single maverick for less than 30k at any local dealerships, no hybrids available. Kinda defeated the entire purpose. Ford always did their own thing, but I find it hard to be enthusiastic about any of their current models... But this applies to both GM and Chrysler too. I miss seeing new American cars and being impressed. They still have some attractive designs, but reliability is completely down the tube.
Brother, you are so right man. All the American brands have the capacity to build the best of the best, they just chose not to. Also, why does your mom have so many transit vans? @@A-BombEnergy They are the Transit Connect, which is a smaller, front wheel drive version of the transit with NA 4 cylinder engines. Basically, it's the modern equivalent of the minivan. Both are passenger versions, but are really easy to put all the seats down and have a huge flat cargo space. It also has a lower load height than any of the crossover SUVs that had similar cargo space with seats faded down, which makes loading and unloading easier. As far as purpose why, we move a lot of furniture, groceries, and music equipment like speakers. The first van had a traditional hatch style rear door, while the current van has the dual barn doors in the back. We definitely prefer the barn doors.

10:42 Correction - When Ford uses the phrase "Number 1 selling truck" they are referring to the total sales of all F-series trucks combined and intentionally misleading the public by referring to a variety of F-series trucks as a singular "truck". Their claim is that the F-series is the best selling "truck", but other manufacturers have outsold Ford in the truck market in recent years. It's a claim that's on life support and survived only due to technicality.
I am 65 I was an only buy Ford for myself and my Wife and adult kids. We all got great service out of 45 years of every Ford we owned I still have 3 I love and will keep them till the wheels fall off I will never trust Ford anymore for the crap they pulled on customers Ecoboost made longevity a hard thing to achieve. I just bought my first Japanese car in my life with a Lexus RX 350. We love this SUV probably be last car I will own. I’ll use my beloved E450 motorhome v10 2004 and 98 ford ranger and 09 fusion. None of them ever caused mechanic issues and if do I can fix them. Good buy Ford You lost a loyal customer I jumped ship after 45 years as a happy customer I don’t trust your direction to loyalty building a solid and long term reliable vech. I think you made a very smart decision to go to the Lexus RX 350 that is an excellent vehicle. I know many guys in the off-road community that have tricked those out and made them off-road capable. Why they all racing to take basic well built trucks that run long care free like I always seemed to owned and Maintain and keep detailed. Now nothing seems to just run without something causing some expensive issue costing or now not being able to replace myself. It seems so out of control seems past 5 years of all newer manufactured cars and trucks a big mess

My BMW and my father’s BMWs have been more reliable than my FCA products…now that’s bad quality lol. I’m working on the GM film now too btw. There is just one good thing that Ford has done recently and that has been their focus on hybrids. If not for that they genuinely would’ve tanked by now. Jim Farley is a sensible man but they did overestimate demand for their EVs. When Ford decided to discontinue cars in the US I thought it was a stupid decision. They can still reverse it as they still produce cars for the European market and are actually pretty competitive there. How is it that consumers get more variety of options in the EU than in the Us? They should seriously bring the EU models to the US. They will sell like hot cakes. Especially for first time buyers who aren’t looking for a overpriced SUv

They all colluded onto the “supply chain”, “inflation” price increase gravy train. Sure, those were reasons to increase pricing but nowhere near the increase that they all, every single manufacturer, increased pricing. Let them all go bankrupt without a bailout.

Ford still gets one shred of credit from me: Building the bullnose. The ford truck platform from 80-97 that is becoming to off roading what the DC-3 is to bushpilots. It's sad though the only vehicles I will drive are all made before I was born.

I’ve loved my Fords for years. Escort, Taurus, Focus, Fusion. I’ll be upset when I have to go to another manufacturer for a car. I have an Explorer but still prefer to daily an efficient sedan.

My in-laws mostly own Toyotas. They’re not flashy by any means but they make quality cars and when they do have issues they’re easy to work on. They’re also going the hybrid route which I can get onboard with

The bronco sport is possibly the worst car I’ve sat in. Every panel I touched felt like it would snap in half with just a bit of pressure, it was creaky while driving and it honestly should not hold the bronco name. I have no clue how they built a temu quality car

Where, instead of offering plenty of affordable and underwhelming cars available of all kinds with , you have a handful of cool premium vehicles that no one can afford and everyone is buying korean or japanese.
And of those special vehicles, a good chunk of them are track/offroad toys, enourmous SUVs and electric luxury cars that are already on their way out.

Automobiles are INSANELY costly. The cost is SO high that people are wondering if the cost is worth it.
Automobiles have altered human society, the big 3 have meddled not only with governments around the world, but the very way we as humans live and interact, and I think people are just fed up with it.
The pros that automobiles offer seem to be losing its luster.
People are generally becoming smarter, and people want better quality of life which automobiles might not be offering anymore.
For a tool to be valuable, it has to not be a burden. Would anyone buy a hammer that constantly breaks, costs a huge mark up? No....
If you want people to LOVE cars you have to make card LOVEABLE. You to make tools that are affordable, reliable first and foremost before anything else. If people are in debt and can't reliably get to work or to important events then people will become bitter no matter what you make.
I can kinda respect Henry Ford, but even he was shady and did some bad shit. Automobiles are so greedy and complex that they are inherently built on exploitation. Beyond Henry Ford, the big 3 have screwed the American people for like a century now.

The US Auto Industry is going the same way as the British Auto Industry in the 1990s and 2000s, when many of its great brands were sold to BMW (Rolls Royce, Mini, Land Rover/Range Rover), Volkswagen (Bentley), Ford (Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin), SAIC (MG). Later on, Tata (Land Rover, Range Rover, and Jaguar), Bahrain (McLaren), Geely (Lotus), and a bunch of investors for Aston Martin. Ford might remain American, but General Motors will probably be sold to the Chinese, and Dodge and Chrysler will be gone. We are currently undergoing “The American Disease.” Poor management, poor quality, bad labor relations, the lack of innovation inside the Big 3, and short sighted decision making.

The best American Car ever is the Mustang especially the classics (Shelby GT350s and GT500s and Mustang Fastbacks 1967-1968), beautiful and powerful. Corvette is something cool but the European sports cars just look more classy and beautiful. My generation (Gen Z) once we get the money will be buying foreign luxury cars. I could see both Cadillac and Lincoln going out because Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Lexus have a large portion of the luxury market along with a rising Genesis, Porsche, and Acura (Honda reliability). People are buying Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, Subarus, Hyundais/KIAs, and Mazdas for affordability and reliability. People trust Toyotas and Hondas because they run forever.
The same happened in Australia. It’s all gone including the associated parts manufacturing, engineering talent, designers ect. Dodge and Chrysler have already gone, they’re now part of Stellantis.
It was one of the dumbest moves to stop making the cars like first focus and fusion . What were those clowns thinking ? The trucks are way to expensive and get bad fuel mileage I don’t want to own an overpriced truck with every luxury function known to man .
Don't forget the Ford Panther Platform as well (like the Ford Crownvic, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car).

Don't forget that not too long ago the F150 was of a sensible size and price. What they have now, the tires are so large the whole truck must be made bigger. Contractors who actually need pickup trucks are looking for older models that can carry things and not a vehicle so overpriced.

I have seen people buying the older former government vehicles because they’re cheaper and smaller. I believe there is a website where you can purchase used government fleet vehicles. However, the big question is then reliability because I don’t think those vehicles are well taken care of 😂
One of the big things not talked about is demographics. By getting rid of cars from their lineup, they're hemoraging younger buyers who are flocking to Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai. Those are future customers that Ford won't have in the future. As people get older their buying power increaces, meaning that as Gen Z gets older they won't be buying Explorers and F150s, they'll be buying Tacomas and Acuras. Ford is ironically following in the footsteps of Harley Davidson.
Jacob, you bring up an excellent point and I will use this when I do a series on "Death of the American Car" (may not be the title of the video but it will be something similar). Ford seems to be only focused on government and fleet sales. I really think they give zero care for their main customers and only about easy sales. Gen Z buyers are gonna go to foreign brands hands down. I know one Gen Z dude who has American and he LOVES trucks and so he owns a GM. Makes sense. I said the same thing when GM got rid of Pontiac instead of Buick. Pontiac was basically the American equivalent to Scion and would keep younger buyers interested in GM. Instead they kept a mid-luxary brand whose primary buyer was retirement age and has had to have a continuous ad campaign trying to rebrand Buick as something younger people might want ever since.
HM no Harley still has a young base they just make their bikes too good the old bikes get handed down to younger would be buyers so yeah.

The problem for a lot of consumers is that the auto makers used to make a sensible car and no longer do. For example, Ford had the Escort, the Taurus, and for large families the Country Squire and Crown Victoria, with Lincoln for the expensive sedans and a reasonable size pickup truck. Why didn't they keep making that? Not enough money?

I really liked Ford when I was a kid. I expected the first new car I would buy to be a Focus ST. When they discontinued their passenger cars I felt betrayed, and have hated Ford ever since then.

I don't understand something. Majority of buyers want crossovers, so they respond to that demand. Then, we hear crying how they're betraying people for a product they don't want. ??????????? Why would they discontinue something that sells well?
@@bmw803 it’s a farce. Buyers are only buying crossovers because that’s all that’s available. They stopped selling sedans because they couldn’t match regulatory demands for the segment. But if you sell a “crossover” then you technically meet the regulatory requirements. Check out those laws, it’s a pretty wild. -Brandon

They convinced people they were the "cool automotive heratige of our country, and it makes you a tough rugged person", so people drop luxury prices on a work truck that can haul more weight than everything they own. Added benefits for the manufacturer are lower emissions standards, less competition from foreign companies, and higher profit margins. It's all marketing that makes us think we all want larger cars.
The thing that has always stuck to me about ford is the fact that when Ford has an reliable, cheap and not a bad car which is loved by many it gets killed immediatly and not returned with a newer and better generation. Maybe it's just a Ford Europe thing.

Though I am a hardcore Ford Europe so I might not have the full answer to it. But if you compare the old Ford europe to todays Ford europe it's quite the tragedy. So many good models that had huge potential for a new generation gone. Sure the courier is interesting but there isn't much else other than the vans and mediocre crossovers.

I was just in Germany a few months ago and some Europeans I talked to said they didn't like American cars because the quality. @@A-BombEnergy Im from Sweden I have grown up with Ford mondeos. And despite them being good cars they have had problems like with the flexifuel engine. Which couldnt even handle what it was built for which was running on both ethanol and gasoline. It could only run on gasoline completely fine whilst if it ran on ethanol it would lead to the engine clogging up. Not on the first time ofc. But you know it's pretty bad. Then there is the issue with the position lights on the 2016 mondeo as in they are fragile and a nightmare to replace. The mechanics who had to deal with it said it was awful and they literally had to remove alot of the front of the car itself just to replace them. Otherwise besides the mediocre interior build quality I still love them. And the same goes for older europe fords.

You're ignoring the most important player in this whole drama: The Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA is deliberately forcing gas/diesel vehicles into extinction with their unachievable CAFE requirements, and shoving EVs down our throats. The automakers can't satisfy both the EPA's rules and customers' desires, which is why we have such a screwed up auto market, from whatever angle you look at.
I hear you and totally agree with most of what you say. My only rebuttal is how is Toyota, Honda, Subaru, VW, BMW, and many other car brands able to compete in market? I think Toyota has got to be the only manufacturer not leaning into EVs and I think that’s awesome. They see the writing on the wall. From my research and correct me if I’m wronged brother, but these American brands are doing this because they take so much govt. money that they have to create EVs and do exactly what they say or the subsidy hose gets turned off. @@A-BombEnergy I think the answer lies in between the video points and the EPA... if the govt (here in Canada and in the USA with you) would stop being so involved with tampering with market forces and blanket banning things that are the only functional and usable technology at scale for 90% of people (ICE vehicles), then things would go much better. Even the EV crowd has to admit that there are enough people who like Teslas that the EV market won't just evaporate any time soon. When the tech is ready, the prices come down to where I can afford it, and I can be sure the batteries do not have blood cobalt in them, then and only then will I buy a second car which is an EV and keep my manual transmission gas car for the weekends and road trips... but seeing as how I'm rather poor, I figure that by the time I have the cash for that, then the major issues will be more or less solved and it will basically be choosing a drive train for how you use the vehicle (short jaunts=EV, Long or heavy work or without access to chargers=ICE).

Truth back as far as the 90's. Had a 91 Ford Escort POS, made in Mexico. The only reason it still ran is because it had a Mazda designed engine., Currently still have my 97 Honda Civic, made in the USA.

Ready for the next American Auto Failure
I remember hearing a story about a state trooper who had a second job, installing garage doors. His truck was going bad and he needed another one. He was part of the "Buy American" crowd. WAS being a key word and you'll find out why in a minute.
Went to the Dodge dealership. The Rams were very expensive, including the thirsty V8's. Tried to negotiate, they said the price is firm.
Goes to a Chevy dealership. Parks in "Customers ONLY" space. Someone tells him to move the vehicle. He tells him he is a customer; he's shopping for a new car. They still tell him he can't park there: he leaves.
Goes to a Ford dealership. Salesmen can't be bothered with him and can't get an appointment for a test drive. Flashes the badge and police ID and asks if he can test drive alone. He's a COP - not like he's going to steal the truck or anything. "Nope, no can do. Salesmen MUST accompany customers.
Guy goes to a Toyota dealership. Sees the new Tacomas. They're 6 cylinders, he wants a V8. Saleswoman said "they're as fast and as powerful as a V8. Drive it with the air conditioning on (A.C. saps engine horsepower). Try it for a week; we'll have a mechanic throw in a bed liner. You like it, come in and we'll talk numbers."
The truck cost $40,000. Unbeknownst to anybody, he already had $30,000 in CASH. The week he used the truck, he got the remaining $10,000.
Showed up at the Toyota dealership, bought the truck, told her the story. He said he usually doesn't buy imports, but he gave the Big 3 a chance and they all blew it. Now he says he's either sticking with Toyota or any Japanese car company.
had a similar experience a decade ago when I needed a new car with zero credit. Everybody turned me down they were all ignorant and snobish SOB's. Nobody gave me chance so I went into a nissan dealer and walked out with a used sentra. This was over 11 yrs ago. Built my credit from there and bought a frontier since.

NOBODY should be able to depend on john Taxpayer to fund private companies' interest. No company should be "too big to fail." If they fail they fail. If they want to expand get a bank loan, or put in your own cash. Did they ever get rid of the worthless middle manager positions in these companies when times get tough? How many times have these companies said that a raise isn't feasible while paying out millions to the ceo? Run your company however you like take your risk. The regular man isn't going to be your safety net.

You know these are loans, right? Corporations pay back taxpayers with interest. It's only when a corp. goes bankrupt that the taxpayer doesn't get their money back. The reason why most companies start in the USA is because other countries throw people in prison who can't pay their debts, including rent, car and credit card payments, so people over there don't even try. And Henry Ford was not a patriot. He was a Nazi sympathizer who said he wasn't going to change production for the war effort. FDR had to force nationalizing Ford. Only then did Henry Ford capitulate to keep family control of Ford instead of having the govt control his company. You people need to study history.

Had they listened to their customers and engineers, Navistar/IH would still be with us. Another case of sales overriding engineering which started the IH downward spiral in the 1950's, and ended with the Maxxforce engine emissions scandal. Poor management plain and simple! In my Jeep video I showed car prices historically and used an inflation calculator and it only proved my point that these automakers are just trying to rinse people for as much money as they can. I’ve heard this comment all too often my friend. I’m sorry to be the one to tell you but they did. Almost 6 billion and in fact they just paid that off. Fords PR team did a great job at hiding this. My fault for not explaining it in detail. I made a response video to this explaining how they did it. In a nutshell, they took 6 billion from DoE and the terms were almost identical to Chrysler and GMs bailout. There were only minor differences. Yeah man it seems to be a common trend within the industry to try to revive these old iconic models/trends and absolutely ruin what they stand for. It’s such a shame. They’re way too much money for way too little vehicle and ever since Chrysler obtain them they’ve gone downhill from the old AMC days I think if AMC could’ve held out and stayed in business with the Jeep the dates still be around today, if only to sell jeeps, and other SUVs based on the jeep chassis, more than likely.
Geniune thanks for bringing up the one argument that most people talking about EV's refuse too: their environmental impact and reliance on toxic matierials from companies and areas with horrific human-rights issues. We arent fixing the environment with EV's, were just exporting our problems elsewhere. Another stupid decision was the discontinuation of the Ford Edge which had been built in Oakville Ontario since 2007 and ended just this May of 2024. It was a solid SUV and has many loyal buyers who had bought several over the years. They plan to turn the Oakville plant into an EV plant which is the stupidist of moves. I really feel sorry for the workers , they got totally screwed over.
John, Canadian made cars seem to be one of the best. My Dodge charger was made in Canada and whilst it has a terrible engine I somehow got lucky or the Canadian manufacturer did an excellent job building it. I tend to think the manufacturer did an awesome job. I am really sad to hear about the conversion of that plant. I hope they retain most of the workers because in the end that plant will probably get converted back to internal combustion. What do you think? Are you Canadian? @@A-BombEnergy Hi Brandon , yes Canadian and live about 2 hours from the Oakville plant. I'm only 45 minutes from Where the Talbotville plant was that produced the Ford and Mercury full size models that the police and taxi's loved, was a shame when it closed too. I don't know if CDN built is better , the Edge was a good one with the exception of certain issues that were worked out after the 2018 year. It'd be what a good and bad model vehicle are from the get go and how well the company deals with issues which are too damn slow and due to poor engineering and R&D research and testing. I was a mechanic from the early 70's to late 80's and saw a lot of changes in the industry. Hard to say what the future holds for us but I know an EV is not on my shopping list at this time.

Yeah man a lot of the "tech" that is in cars is in there by law, another example is TPMS sensors. I have those in my 09 Charger and they are so irritating. I have had to replace them like 3 times. At one point when I was broke, I just let me ding away because I couldn't afford 400 dollars for the second time that year. I bet that Ranger will last forever. How long have you had it?
They're biggest mistakes was killing the Mercury brand and not building a V8 Muscle sedan version of the Mustang to compete with the Dodge Charger.

My buddy is an engineer at Ford. About a year ago, he and I were guessing that a big crash, like what happened to the housing market, is coming for the car market. I wish I remembered some of the details we were thinking about then. When that time comes, I'm sure it'll be another bailout.

I think the biggest problem is the loan term limits. The availability to finance a car for a very long term jacks the prices up cause the payment is more manageable over 7-10 years now.

Seeing as the middle-class are being out-priced from new cars and sticking with a used vehicle I hope that this causes sales figures to suffer enough for GM and Ford to make positive changes. My parents actually bought a new car for the first time back in 2018 that they still own, it was a base Mazda 2 and a worthy investment seeing that the prices for them skyrocketed after the pandemic. Why? Because most people want simple and affordable cars. Ford made a huge mistake doing away with their Focus and Fiesta models.
Tldr: Keep most cars simple, reliable, and cheaper than the competition
If the government didn't just bail them all out everytime they did something stupid, they might actually learn a lesson and make smart decisions

At least both my 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 211,000 miles and my 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 162,000 miles on it are both running strong and not having any issues unlike the Modern F150s.
Wow brother, you have some really cool vehicles. They are very iconic. I bet in time they will be worth a lot of money. Keep taking care of those beautiful machines. I think the modern V8 is doing pretty well, but I can’t speak for everything else. I know there has been issues with the eco-boost and some of the hybrid models. A Ford 302 V8 along with the 300 inline 6 are easily one of the most durable engines that ever came out of FoMoCo. Things started to slip through the cracks once they started making OHC engines..

Ford spends $4 BILLION a year on warranty work. I own a 2019 Lincoln MKC and the car is practically perfect. But they ought to take their heads out of their rear ends and fix this warranty work problem.

I have almost 30,000 miles on the car. I want to keep it to at least 200,000 miles. I change the oil more frequently than is required. They built the car extremely well. The fit and finish is excellent Any problems that i have with it basically cure themselves. I have no complaints about it. It's the perfect size for me because it's based on the Ford Escape.
You know, I think the secret to keeping cars longer is by doing more frequent oil changes. Do you do them every 3-5k miles? I don't let mine get over 5k miles. My BMW and Jeep say to change every 10k miles, YEAH RIGHT lol. Not happening. I am glad you are happy with your car, thats what this is all about, being happy with your purchase.

And to add insult to injury, the big 3 has been crying foul to the feds in order to stop 25y/o kei trucks from imported into the U.S. from overseas. Whether it's the chicken tax, or 'safety concerns, they don't care! They just don't want ppl to have the option of owning a small truck. b/c they know they'll lose sales to them. I understand the kei trucks are not for everyone, but they do fill a certain niche.
Its crazy, I understand the chicken tax to a certain degree but this is not what the free markets are supposed to be. These automakers need to have their core rocked so they can provide us with better products. I am tired of them rinsing people. What do you think the solution to all this madness is? Ford was Ford until they mostly closed off their Rouge plant along with outsourcing various parts that are manufactured by a different entity all together. Almost any FoMoCo product from the 70’s and up had almost every nut and bolt made at the Rouge plant since Ford was vertically integrated which means they bought up the various supply chains and such, would have been no worries about supply chain disruptions and shortages. I’m almost considering buying 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 body shells, have them analyzed, see what it would take to make cars what people actually want (i.e no frills transportation, modest price) and not what these companies and the government thinks that’s what people want, but in reality no one wants. Ultimately, it’s the government who ruined the auto industry, been 49 years in the making since CAFE was introduced (can take a hike for all I care) which has caused quality to drop, caused a loophole where they can produce gas guzzling SUVs and trucks.

You sound knowledgeable, you mention Cafe laws or government interference, but as I am to understand it cafe laws EXIST because the big 3 lobbied the government because they were scared of Japanese competition in the small truck market.
What are your opinions on that? Japan was releasing small, economical trucks. Ford and Chevy responded with the Ranger and S10, but from what I am to understand those still didn't sell well compared to Japanese counterparts. So the big 3 lobbied for these cafe laws which basically killed these small trucks allowing the big 3 to focus on the larger more profitable big trucks and SUVs.
No American company wants to make cheap, reliable vehicles. I bet Ford hated every Ranger that rolled out of the factory because they knew that truck could last 50+ years, eating into their profits.
For some reason Japan is willing to offer good value products, like they did with the early Nissan trucks, early Tacomas, and other small Japanese trucks even before those. Japan was the true victim of the cafe laws IMO, and of course us as well as consumers.

@@hhjhj393 learned most of this stuff from a video series that Rare Classic Cars & Automotive History did awhile back 2 years ago, along with a series about the Malaise Era done by Ed’s Auto Reviews about 2 years ago as well.
I don’t think the big three lobbied against CAFE (later on, more than likely), CAFE was enacted in 1975 as a response to the oil embargo of 1973. The goal was to make the average fuel economy 27 MPG by the time the mid 80’s came around. Unfortunately, it lead to the big 3 (mainly GM) to produce some stinkers which turned off consumers such as the Chevy Vega which had a engine made out of aluminum with Teflon coated cylinders (it didn’t take long for the Teflon to wear off) that would consume a quart of oil every 60 to 100 miles. Another thing that turned off consumers was the air filter was built into a assembly, you couldn’t just replace the filter, had to replace the ENTIRE air cleaner assembly since the filter was built in.
Ford’s Pinto was definitely better than the Vega, but had the issue with it catching fire in the early 70’s when rear ended hard enough. The later Ford Pinto in the 70’s was Fox-body based (same as the Mustang and Fairmont) so it didn’t have that problem.
As for Chrysler, they didn’t offer any sort of economy cars at all, offered a few midsize cars, but no economy cars until after the bailout of 1979, 2 years later they introduced their K-Car platform which had great potential, but corrosion protection was a afterthought, didn’t rust proof them later on. On the flip side, got great fuel mileage (better than some cars today) and had room for 6 people.
The reason why SUVs and trucks exploded in popularity in the 70’s and 80’s is they were exempt from the CAFE regulations since they literally were used off road by park rangers, or on private property so it didn’t make sense to make them comply, they weren’t driven as much on public roads back then. As soon as people realized SUVs and trucks had the power of something from the 1960’s, more and more people started to buy them as time marched on in the 80’s and 90’s.
As for CAFE, every class of vehicles is subjected to different standards. Cars for example, have more stringent standards for fuel economy such as 40 or 50 MPG. Small trucks are subjected to the same fuel economy standards as well. Large SUVs and trucks have more lenient standards, but are otherwise there. Automakers use that loophole to make and sell oversized SUVs and trucks which drink more fuel than some cars from the 1960’s, a Ford Excursion from the early to mid 2000’s with the Triton V10 would get 8 to 9 MPG while a mid 60’s Ford Galaxie 500 with 289 V8 would get 14 city, 18 to 19 highway, though you could bump the fuel economy up to 16 city, 20 highway with a 4 speed transmission and upgraded the axel ratio to keep the RPMs on the lower side increasing fuel economy not to mention reducing engine wear and tear.
@@A-BombEnergy basically would be reproducing a car that’s been out of production for almost 60 years, no one would be able to claim patent infringement since it’s patents and copyright have been expired for a long, long time. Got the idea from my grandfather in a conversation we had awhile back where he mentioned “someone should bring back the Checker cars that were used as taxi cabs, they would sell millions of them”. Reason why I’d use a ‘66 Ford full sized body shell is it’s a simple, contemporary design which has stood the test of time, basically was styled by Elwood Engle who did the ‘61 Lincoln Continental. However, I’d beef up the frame with a x-brace since that’s how the Checker frame was, beef up anything and everything that could be beefed up for extra durability and reliability.
I may sound like a old man, but the truth is I am 25. Just want to offer something the big 3 has abandoned long, long ago. Seems as though it’s been the same thing for the past 30 or so years. I have nothing against technology since I am apart of the Gen Z demographic, but when you put technology for the sake of putting technology in, it causes confusion, reduces reliability, last but not least increases cost. If you keep things as simple and basic as much as possible, improve it year after year, you’ll end up with something people will want.
Of course, people will make the argument “if they still made things like they did 60 years ago, things would be outrageously expensive” and there is some truth to that argument, but if items like incandescent light bulbs (a old technology) have been in production for over 100 years, the cost goes down as time marches on with the combination on automation and economies of scale. If Ford kept the same cars since 1966, but only changed the technology in terms of automation and economies of scale in terms of production, they probably would be selling in the $25,000 to $30,000 price range and sure it wouldn’t have the technology or features of a contemporary Honda or Toyota, but if it has the ability to carry 6 people, has a trunk with lots of room for luggage, comfortable, modest price, it would be a better buy since you are basically getting more car for dollar than something else available.
Another argument people will make is safety and that has some continuity to it, but if you really think about it, everything is all relative to the time and era it was produced. The ‘66 full sized Fords didn’t came with any safety equipment other than seatbelts, padded dashboard, but one area of safety they were better in especially with the 4 door hardtops was in outward visibility. Modern vehicles are atrocious for outward visibility and the amount of blindspots they have to the outside, I’m sure people in the future (if cars and trucks revert back to wrap around windshields and rear windows) will say “cars of the 2010’s and 2020’s were dangerous since they had terrible visibility and blindspots”, it’s all relative at the end of the day.
Last but not least is in the area of serviceability, you can’t make repairs to modern and newer vehicles without loosing your mind. If the blend doors in the dashboard go bad for the HVAC controls, the ENTIRE dashboard has to come apart which will be thousands in labor. Many older vehicles for example from the 1960’s used cables to charge the various modes where you want the air to come out, if the cable binds up or gets stiff, a few drops of oil and 5 to 10 minutes time will correct that issue, same is true for manual window mechanisms which need to be lubricated every now and again.
Brother, I think you should seriously look into doing this. People every day have million dollar ideas but won't execute the task. There is a company in California that makes replica old mustangs, awesome BUT they are insanely expensive and I believe the design them for ultra wealthy, which is cool. Your grandpa sounds like a smart guy and sounds like he did you right.

My big takeaway from this is that we should stop subsidizing the industry, particularly the push for EVs. A forced transition to EVs is a burden to taxpayers and vehicle owners, and frankly it's incentivizing stupid behavior from the automakers.

A big one you should have mentioned was that after they received all that "not a bailout" money, they turned around and built an engine plant in Mexico to manufacture the 6.7 liter Powerstorke diesel engine. The engine and transmission create more jobs that all the rest of the vehicle and the 6.7 Powerstroke is a major job creator.... for Mexico. Even GM builds their 6.6 Duramax in Ohio, yet Ford couldn't be bothered to build theirs in the US.

Brother, I think that is exactly what is happening and my fear is that we will once again bail them out. I am all in favor of electric cars, but not in the aspect of "its one or the other." I haven't viewed Ford as an American company since the late '90s when they outsource/off shored IT jobs. If the American worker isn't good enough for Ford than Ford isn't good enough for Americans.

I find it hard to understand how these car companies are getting it so wrong when they have so many resources to research what the market wants. You can bet the people that make the decisions still get their bonuses while the people that actually build the cars get laid off.

The issue.
The big three are making cars no one wants, for prices most can't afford, because the government is pushing them to do it.
The other issue with the big three is, they are only alive because they were bailed out in one way or another... they didn't suffer the same fate as companies like Packard when they could no longer make money.

I think we may not fix this issue for quite a while. People are too compliant with the government, people are too brainwashed with the idea cars need to be luxury status symbols that you can purchase with mortgages.
I think this is the direction things need to go, to fix the problem we will need to ignore or vote out or …remove… people in government that make things harder, and the auto makers need to go broke until they make what consumers can afford and want for fair prices.
It’s an issue that to really fix requires multiple approaches, consumers need to stop being stupid, producers need to stop being greedy, and the government needs to know their own place, minding their own damn business.

People want Ford Mavericks but Ford wants to sell something else I guess.
Isn’t that a wild thing? Ford literally has the key to making a profitable margin and solve a big problem but yet they don’t want to lean into it. I know plenty of guys that want a truck, but they don’t want big trucks. Some bought Mavericks and some bought the gladiator. What do you think of the Ford Maverick?
I think they wasted the opportunity to sell a bunch of them. The demand was there but who wants to wait a year/6months. Of course they’re steadily raising price on it now but that’s expected as it’s market wide.
Honestly, what I think they did is they applied the tactic of fear of missing out and that there is scarcity within that segment. It’s a marketing tactic. But I think they push the envelope too far because now people don’t really want to wait that long.
I am no expert, but I have always noticed that Ford tends to be the more expiremental company. Like Ford will always be the first ones to try something new, then after a while Chevy will follow.
Even back in the day Ford bragged about their fuel injected engines while Chevies were still carburated, I think that's why if you look at old Fords they will have giant FUEL INJECTED moldings on their aluminum intakes lol.
That being said Ford has completely gone insane.
From what I am to understand though Ford still makes good trucks. Their new 5.0 is a good engine, their diesels are still excellent.
Ford's just gone insane with complexity. I think Ford has been notorious for having lots of "packages" and lots of different parts for a while now, but perhaps now it's just gone absolutely insane.
All automobiles are simply too expensive and too complex right now. People like me are just gonna keep driving 30 year old f150s until they rust away.

Well, I am just going to keep on driving and enjoying my 2002 Ford F-350 XLT Power Stroke Crew Cab with only 38,258mi on it from when I bought it new in the fall of 2001. My truck - by diesel standards - is still "new" and is in mint, garaged, condition. Never hauled or towed anything with it. It will cruise at 80mph smooth on the interstate all day long. Excellent factory, Philco symphony sound system. Never a single problem with it. Just regularly scheduled maintenance. Cost new: $39,808.00.
Today, that amount would not even be enough for a down payment on a new, inferior-built, aluminum-bodied, Ford F-350. I am so glad I have mine instead.😅

I cannot understand why they are going so wild with these prices, I have ideas why but that's a whole other video. I could probably talk for hours on that. Its interesting you bring up the aluminum body, I have spoken to some people and they LOVE them and some have a strong distaste for them. @@A-BombEnergy Thank you, Brandon. Ford went to all-aluminum bodies for weight savings. GM and Dodge are following very soon, if they haven't already. Ford claimed it saves more than 350 pounds off of the overall weight of the trucks. BUT.......they do not tell you that all of the body shop technicians had to go back to school to learn about the brittleness and difficult repair and costs of aluminum bodies. Independent insurance labs put the new, aluminum bodies to the test by taking the previous years' steel body versus the new aluminium body by bashing them in the rear bedside. It cost $450.00 to repair the steel body. It cost $800.00 to repair the aluminium body! Almost double! The major insurance companies really frowned on that and jacked up insurance rates on aluminium-bodied trucks and cars.
Plus, look closely at the build details of the new aluminum-bodied Ford trucks compared to the 2008 and back steel-bodied trucks. The new aluminum trucks no longer have the graceful, seamless, aircraft doors that extend into the roof. They cannot fold the aluminum like they can steel. Aluminum does not hold paint well at all either. It eventually peels and chips very easily. I live in Texas where we have tennis-sized hail storms, too. No aluminum truck will ever stand up to that! Mine did one time, about 6 years ago just exposed to the front a little. But it took that hail with NO damage.
Mark, thanks for sharing this information with me. I went a looked some of this up for further info and I am surprised by this decision. The crash tests were very interesting to say the least. Mixed data but still interesting. And I have seen the aluminum paint issues with Jeep guys...stuff is bad with certain models. Just shocking...

I see Chinese automakers coming in and absolutely destroying the big 3 in the coming years once the Biden tariffs are gone. BYD is so much cheaper with EVs than ford ever will be and people are gonna *eat* Chinese EVs given they are actually affordable. I see Chinese ICE cars coming in and getting the extra budget market with sub-$15K cars as well. The U.S. auto industry is *cooked* between cheaper Chinese cars and Toyota being Toyota and me wanting a Lexus rather than a Cadillac if I ever had that money.

What's with the weird Chinese hate? Especially for a part like a lithium ion battery that won't spy on you. If CATL can manufacture batteries at scale and more efficiently than American manufacturers, it's in everyone's interests to buy from them. You spoke ill of protectionism and the subsidies Ford is getting. Yet Chinese batteries coming to the US and ramping up competition is a bad thing?

I don’t like our funds funding a government that has openly stated we are the enemy of China. China is also conducting economic warfare around the globe and wants to essentially make the world dependent upon them. Whether you realize it or not, China is a quiet enemy of the US. Therefore, we shouldn’t be funding them. Remember, every company in China is an extension of their government. Read the book Unrestricted Warfare, it’s written by Chinese generals and they state how they will destroy America. What Ford and other battery manufacturers are doing is playing right into their hand. Additionally, I am kind of against slave labor, not really a cool thing to do and China is all about it. Hence why they execute 4000 plus people yearly. Also, how do you know a better doesn’t have spyware in it? There are tons of computers attached to a battery. Chinese manufacturers have also been caught stashing spyware items in simple things like thermostats, routers, and light bulbs (that’s according to the FBI). If you need more reasons, let me know brother. Be happy to provide them. I’m all about competition but not when it’s funding a group that is trying to destroy us. Thanks for watching.

Have recently bought a 67 mustang & a 61 f100 in an effort to familiarize myself with the mechanics on widely familiar, simple platforms, as well as avoid the nefarious intents of the modern companies here in NA as you so poignantly demonstrated. My own nightmare with my old 16 Fusion was enough to dissuade me from modern cars all together. I had intentions of making the truck electric, but as I'm educating myself more, I'm seeing the value of these old V8's, not to mention the interchangeability and ease of access for parts. We'll see, but in the meantime, I commend you on your endeavors sir, you have solid analytics for a solid approach to the platform and i couldn't be more excited for you. Jack, I didn’t know EMS vehicles were going with hybrids. That’s VERY concerning. I wonder if it’s mainly in cities or localized areas? Do you happen to know? The crown Vic was one of the best cars they made, in my opinion at least. I knew a police officer who was issued one new and put over 300k miles on it. You know, even in the 70s, there was a quality to the big 3, and long before that is pure quality, their was always a man making the car. But nowadays, it's quantity over quality. And almost every American car company can be put with that sentence.
Its amazing how we can't go back to that. I mean we could but then it would destroy their quantity. If I remember correctly, BMW when they make cars has master builder run his hand over every single inch of the car to ensure that its built correctly. I'm on the hunt for my first personal car and found an old BMW 325I from 1989. However, many say that "It's nothing but trouble," and I understand why, but I have a saying that isn't really a saying and it's "If it could survive then, it can survive now." And if we were to do quality over quantity again, the longevity of a car would have been Astronomical with the technology and with safety. We could have had a new Jeep CJ that would have actually lasted forever, and a new electric Ford Thunderbird for the masses and because the name makes sense. But here we are. Chrysler, GM, and Ford are about to go broke.

@@A-BombEnergy That's just it, they don't, look at the cars that Honda sells abroad in volume and notice they aren't on American roads. And as for Tesla, they sell because the US government subsidises them, which is why states see sales nosedive when their cars stop qualifying for the subsidies.

The first time I have heard about this New Plant is from this Video. Ford has been working on a Massive Battery plant near me in Marshal MI. The Property was a huge corn field near the Highway .. Many People were totally against the Plant.. They didn't want good paying jobs and a huge boost to a small Town Economy.
Also there is a Chinese Investment or Chinese Battery technology going to be used at this plant. Also it was going to be Non Union. So now you have Union Mafia against it. Ground was broken over a year ago. Millions in Tax breaks were offered.
With the Huge Decline in Demand for EV's I did a search recently and learned that they are cutting the size and scope of the planned Factory in half for now. Things are not getting any better with Bidenflation

Incentives
Michigan’s stake in the Marshall deal totals about $2 billion in incentives, including a local tax break worth about $772 million, $330 million for road upgrades, and a $210,000 job-creation grant that would go directly to Ford once it hires at the facility. The incentives include an initial state award in February, followed by multiple additions, including legislative actions.
Beyond that, nearly a half-million dollars have been awarded to MAEDA for its role in acquiring property for the megasite. Other tax breaks are expected by the time the factory opens.

You couldn’t give me a lightning, but Ive had 8 different f series trucks over the years. The most recent a 22 f150 and all of those pickups have been rock solid in reliability. I’m still driving my 24 year old super duty everyday.
Yeah the F-150's and really F-Series aside from the lightning are pretty dang solid. Everything else they make....jeeesh idk what they are thinking. I am not sure how they can't take the same engineering concepts and apply it to their other models. Is it really that hard lol? So many things kill me about Ford. They are capable of building decent vehicles, but even when they do, they just discontinued them. My mother has had two Transit Connect vans and has loved them both. While not perfect vehicles, they have been solid with regular maintenance. The first new product Ford introduced, the Maverick, was a pretty exciting as a concept- an affordable truck with a hybrid system! I hoped that, after a few years, the tech would mature and (maybe) Ford would have a winner on their hands. Now I can find a single maverick for less than 30k at any local dealerships, no hybrids available. Kinda defeated the entire purpose.
Ford always did their own thing, but I find it hard to be enthusiastic about any of their current models... But this applies to both GM and Chrysler too. I miss seeing new American cars and being impressed. They still have some attractive designs, but reliability is completely down the tube.

@@A-BombEnergy They are the Transit Connect, which is a smaller, front wheel drive version of the transit with NA 4 cylinder engines. Basically, it's the modern equivalent of the minivan. Both are passenger versions, but are really easy to put all the seats down and have a huge flat cargo space. It also has a lower load height than any of the crossover SUVs that had similar cargo space with seats faded down, which makes loading and unloading easier. As far as purpose why, we move a lot of furniture, groceries, and music equipment like speakers. The first van had a traditional hatch style rear door, while the current van has the dual barn doors in the back. We definitely prefer the barn doors.
I will purposely go out & buy a pre-emission F-350 diesel... just to upset the EV crowd!

10:42 Correction - When Ford uses the phrase "Number 1 selling truck" they are referring to the total sales of all F-series trucks combined and intentionally misleading the public by referring to a variety of F-series trucks as a singular "truck". Their claim is that the F-series is the best selling "truck", but other manufacturers have outsold Ford in the truck market in recent years. It's a claim that's on life support and survived only due to technicality.

We love this SUV probably be last car I will own. I’ll use my beloved E450 motorhome v10 2004 and 98 ford ranger and 09 fusion. None of them ever caused mechanic issues and if do I can fix them. Good buy Ford You lost a loyal customer I jumped ship after 45 years as a happy customer I don’t trust your direction to loyalty building a solid and long term reliable vech. I have heard the story all too often with the big three auto manufacturers hence why I’m making this series of videos. I think you made a very smart decision to go to the Lexus RX 350 that is an excellent vehicle. I know many guys in the off-road community that have tricked those out and made them off-road capable. @@A-BombEnergy Do a segment on why all cars and trucks need to be turbocharged and not give buyers gas aspirated option. Why they all racing to take basic well built trucks that run long care free like I always seemed to owned and Maintain and keep detailed. Now nothing seems to just run without something causing some expensive issue costing or now not being able to replace myself. It seems so out of control seems past 5 years of all newer manufactured cars and trucks a big mess

Absolutely brother and you are totally correct. Shoot, I drive almost all FCA products except for my BMW. My BMW and my father’s BMWs have been more reliable than my FCA products…now that’s bad quality lol. I’m working on the GM film now too btw. There is just one good thing that Ford has done recently and that has been their focus on hybrids. If not for that they genuinely would’ve tanked by now. Jim Farley is a sensible man but they did overestimate demand for their EVs. When Ford decided to discontinue cars in the US I thought it was a stupid decision. They can still reverse it as they still produce cars for the European market and are actually pretty competitive there. How is it that consumers get more variety of options in the EU than in the Us? They should seriously bring the EU models to the US. They will sell like hot cakes. Especially for first time buyers who aren’t looking for a overpriced SUv

Ford still gets one shred of credit from me: Building the bullnose. The ford truck platform from 80-97 that is becoming to off roading what the DC-3 is to bushpilots. It's sad though the only vehicles I will drive are all made before I was born.

I’ve loved my Fords for years. Escort, Taurus, Focus, Fusion. I’ll be upset when I have to go to another manufacturer for a car. I have an Explorer but still prefer to daily an efficient sedan.
I am glad you enjoyed those cars and they treated you well. It’s very sad that they stop producing sedans, but it’s also even more sad that they stopped producing quality vehicles. I often hear people say that they blame regulators for American car companies not producing sedans. But I think that’s just an excuse. Look at Asian brands they produce quality sedans. My in-laws mostly own Toyotas. They’re not flashy by any means but they make quality cars and when they do have issues they’re easy to work on. They’re also going the hybrid route which I can get onboard with

The bronco sport is possibly the worst car I’ve sat in. Every panel I touched felt like it would snap in half with just a bit of pressure, it was creaky while driving and it honestly should not hold the bronco name. I have no clue how they built a temu quality car
