Just now watching The Five days at memorial & it made me research more about Katrina & Wow the things you all went thru & endured & survived, God Bless You
What blows me away is the fact they took forever to get these poor souls the help they desperately needed but they wasted no time stomping on their rights and confiscating their firearms.
Fema was there within 48 hours we were limited in what we could do we had people shooting at us we risked our lives people were looting why should we have to be shot for trying to help
I feel like you should always keep your firearm in your possession at all times during any disaster especially dealing with crooked cops, looters, and more

rootsm3 To say Hurricane Katrina was a moral failing on the part of the US government would be a severe understatement. These people didn't deserve that.
the reality is poor people with no roots have no where to escape because they can't just go to another state and country to live until things get better. they knew but had no where to go and no way to get there.

Go camping for an week somewhere where there isn't an hurricane....... FEMA set up massive camps weeks prior, and successfully evacuated 95% of southern Louisiana. The criticism of the relief effort wasn't of FEMA, (an federal agency for disasters) but of the Federal government's response.
Copper Harris You truly are delusional and obviously have never been involved in an evacuation. The government dies NOT evacuate anyone the local government issues an evacuation warning to which you use your OWN transportation and money to evacuate. There is so much wrong with your response that it would truly take writing a thesis to respond. You also apparently have no idea how far out from a hurricane the bad weather spreads. And if in fact the government had set up camps weeks before (which also doesn't happen because there is also the chance the storm could not even hit) then why would all of those people have been bused to the Superdome and what happened to these camps afterward when they ended up busing people to Houston?
Katrina... No words I visited New Orleans three years orior the people were sooooo nice to me. I felt loved more than my own family so seeing the citizens stuck, floating, displaced, and all out freaking out broke my heart once a year i watch a documentary about it
I live in New york. And i can recall myself for 7 days on the news....they kept telling people to get out because it was gonna be deadly but people didn't listen. There were evacuation buses but many people weren't allowed to bring their pets so they stayed behind. I would have gotten together with others and rented a car! New orleans is below sea level. Rescuers could barely drive through. Half of it was under water! They kept telling people this was going to happen. New orleans sinks like 2 inches per year. Soon it will be under water. My sister worked for fema during Katrina and I just remember her come home one day in tears and explaining the calls she had be she felt bad she couldn't help. My mom rip worked for agriculture in DC and she went to new Orleans and said she remembers swing coffins just floating down the street
When Katrina happened i was stabbed in the heart to see so many suffering and no help in sight. I realized right then that the government don't care about us. They more concerned with foreign countries than our own. I started to teach myself survival skills to be able to overcome any obstacle thrown at me. So Katrina definitely had an impact on my life even though I was watching thru a t.v screen.
I am. Have always wondered why we haven't had more of these testimonials on Katrina. So disgraceful what these people went through. This was very well done.
@@DemonSlayer9166 It's because of the location where Katrina was most devastating that's where the black community was living. And I believe that the government knew if those levees broke that it would flood that community... Just my opinion

My wife and I just visited in February of 2021. The lower 9th Ward still has streets that look like bombs went off. Several vacant lots where people didn't even try to rebuild. Can't say as I blame them because the government made it hard for them to get any of the relief money, but when they did, shady contractors took advantage of them. They took their money with the promise of rebuilding and used tainted materials that had to be torn out and either redone or just left undone.
Many areas of New Orleans aren’t rebuilt .. many homes still have the markings on them from when the national guard would go in to see if ppl was there .. I was there but thank god we left within hours before we couldn’t
I was a kid when Andrew hit us in south Fl..Have u ever seen an entered roof wiped at one time? Being in a bath tub with a mattress over your head...I been on prozac ever since.
Wow , I was in the 2nd grade when the hurricane hit. My mom was working for the Salvation Army at that time. She went to work a day after the storm and went down to homestead with her job to help out. When she came home she explained what she saw but you’ll never it until you visually see it yourself. I’m praying Dorian pass is by , be bless Queen
This is such a touching video , thank you very much for sharing this. It’s disgusting that these people were neglected for so long and to the point where things got so unbearable. I visited New Orleans recently and I was touched at the friendliness of the people there.. they have lived through ALOT
The US didn't have a proper plan for the people of Louisanna when the levees broke.🙏🏾 I remember hearing 10 years plus later they are still recovering and many people are still displaced...
In my mind I picture a world of no disasters. No innocent people killed. No mass shootings. But, the sad reality is all of these things are real and we need to be aware of them. Katrina was very sad and even though I was not there I still cried when my teacher told us that she was there. She has been through 28 hurricanes so far. Bad, but good that she survived because she is a great teacher. God bless America.
I was in jail on tulane and board and the 1st day of the storm the COs just pass out a slice of cheese and a slice of ham and we didnt see them nomore until 2 weeks after the storm the army people finally came got us!!!

I posted on another video before this one. While he was filming this, I had just finished moving into an apartment, thinking it was just gonna blow over & I would be starting nursing school the following week. It’s hard to explain to ppl how bad it was without actually being there, but u tell it so perfectly. There was so much abuse of power it was truly sad. It was like rich ppl watching poor ppl die right before their eyes, knowing it was their fault, & didn’t care.
Thank you for uploading this, I remember Mr Alexander from the documentary "When the Levees Broke". Very powerful and informative. Hard to imagine, forget having to live in the nightmare.
Why the absolute f**k did they search people coming to the dome for safety. They werent criminals, the majority were people living in poverty that had no where to go and no transportation to go anywhere. Every detail i learn about katrina angers me and should still be a subject of debate years later. The government officials involved should be in jail for how they handled this disaster.
Dead bodies and deep water, that's what I remembered most. I was in the third grade. We were left to die. The bloodshed from the delayed relief effort is Mr. Bush's hands.
I’m am and was so heartbroken when this happened to New Orleans! They shouldn’t have been stranded and treated like that ! New Orleans is the most beautiful city in the states with true culture! It hurts me to the max remembering this
I remember seeing so much of this tragedy unfold on television and feeling so helpless and crying because I couldn't help. I especially remember the older man whose wife floated away from him and he was heartbroken and also crying. The whole thing was just too much. ETA: I don't know what made me think back to this, but I'm glad it did. His wife didn't 'float away' from him; she was violently pulled away by raging flood waters. It was insanely tragic!
Yes they did I survived Katrina and after the storm wiped out alot of things people started killing each other there were police looting and there was one instance where people where trying to escape the rising water and huddled up on a bridge some of the police wanted what they had and shot them and there was a situation where a man stabbed his sister to death over a bag of ice
Errica Thomas they had guns and shot at unarmed citizens because they wanted to get whatever they could from them whether it be food or the place they were standing the police that did that knew food water etc was going to be hard to get so they would take it by force they were also breaking into buildings stealing items from the shelves and knowing that there was no guarantee that any help would be coming and if so that there was no exact timing for that help so they decided to take from innocent people even if killing them to do it. schools became temporary morgues because there were so many dead people that they had no room at the morgue for them. People going on rescue missions were mostly any citizen with a boat. The neighbor down the street that you barely knew would come out in their boat to save you from your house.
I live in New Orleans man I'm glad I made it out before the storm hit ironically I moved with my cousins who just got hit the hardest by hurricane Harvey
My heart breaks for the people that had to endure Katrina as well as Ida. God speed to those who were lost and the best of love for Shelton and the rest who made it.
I have relatives in NO. I was there just a week ago and you can still see the areas affected especially in the 9th Ward. My idea is if you knew this thing was coming from at least a week away I'd walk if I had to considering my good health. The mayor and the governor of that time both have blood on their hands for not evacuating the city any earlier. School buses were still sitting there not being used to help save anyone.
The president watched us from the sky while we waited and waited and waited for no one. His hands bare the bloodshed from the delayed relief effort that made Katrina more than just a natural disaster. This was an EMERGENCY SITUATION. I was in third grade, nothing will ever be as bad as Katrina for me
@@shelbieclaire.3434 Ma'am I'm truly sorry for what you went through and I'm glad you're here today to continue your life.
Who's listening in 2019??
I am. Have always wondered why we haven't had more of these testimonials on Katrina. So disgraceful what these people went through. This was very well done.
Rob Shane I am. And I’m wondering why I mainly see black Americans during the hurricane Katrina ? I don’t see white or Mexicans
@@DemonSlayer9166 It's because of the location where Katrina was most devastating that's where the black community was living. And I believe that the government knew if those levees broke that it would flood that community... Just my opinion

I visited New Orleans November 2016. There are several areas that are still being rebuilt.
Same in 2014 downtown was the only thing still in tact
I was told the same when I visited in 2017. Still couldn’t believe that after 12 years
Visited around the same time it was devastating to see
Many areas of New Orleans aren’t rebuilt .. many homes still have the markings on them from when the national guard would go in to see if ppl was there .. I was there but thank god we left within hours before we couldn’t
I was a kid when Andrew hit us in south Fl..Have u ever seen an entered roof wiped at one time? Being in a bath tub with a mattress over your head...I been on prozac ever since.

That sounds terrible. I will be praying for you.

Corrynthia I AM I'll never forget Andrew
I don't even know why I watch this stuff, because I know it will move me to tears,,🙁
Amazing depiction of what went on through his experience
This is such a touching video , thank you very much for sharing this. It’s disgusting that these people were neglected for so long and to the point where things got so unbearable. I visited New Orleans recently and I was touched at the friendliness of the people there.. they have lived through ALOT
The Superdome was a defacto concentration camp. When disaster strikes, don't go into one.
CornerTalker Now you tell me... 🧐😂😣
That was clearly the only option many people had!
Now they arent even ashamed of having several for migrants
I was there too and for those of us who survived katrina, we'll never be the same. My oldest son was 16 months old. I thought we were going to die
I’m sorry you went through that... how awful!
I'm so sorry luv so sorry ..I cried just watching it. Smfh
The US didn't have a proper plan for the people of Louisanna when the levees broke.🙏🏾 I remember hearing 10 years plus later they are still recovering and many people are still displaced...
As a Atlanta native, I’ll never forget seeing all those New Orleans natives move to Atlanta. We love New Orleans here in Atlanta. ♥️

God bless you. I hope you heal from this
Who could dislike this store unbelievable God bless all the people who have been through Hurricane Katrina!

I still cant believe that our country treated it's own in such a way...

I heard the biggest supplier of humanitarian aid to Louisiana at this time was the Republic of Singapore Armed Forces.

Watch When The Levees Broke by Spike Lee. The stories go much deeper, and sadder than this.
I can't watch that. Its the most accurate depiction of what we went through. It's like being in it again
Yes very good, Spike Lee went deep in that documentary.
It broke my heart . That was 15 years ago and I’m still heartbroken
ahow much deeper can you go,they let all these poor people die,ill never forget, watching on tv in horror....
Man, this grave me goosebumps about 20 times! So intense!
Wow, your an amazing person. Thank you for sharing.
19 years later and the trauma is still there
I feel so bad for the family’s that lost loved ones
Some of the New Orleans police went rogue and were randomly shooting civilians allegedly
RFI-Crypto Lab
They were scared to death..it was chaos
This is why we need the 2nd amendment. You have to be able to protect yourself.
@@mrs.tiffany I remember the story about the guy killing his sister over a bag of ice smh.

This is a sad story😢
I'm not defending or praising the president of that era but the blame falls on the local authorities first! It's the government's job to provide relief and assistance to disaster victims. Instead they funnel billions into for-profit contractors (and major political donors) who take the money and run.
