Yeah, they peaked with that album and have been struggling to get back to that level ever since coming back from "retirement". They've had a few songs that are just as good or better than those on that album, but their more recent albums have only had like 2-3 great songs while the rest are just meh. I have listened to that full album more than any other album from any other artist. Would take 7+ hour road trips with that album on repeat. Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet is the best thing they have ever done. What A Catch is also brilliant, but only gets there because the chorus is a round of hooks from their other songs. She's my Winona is the only "dud" on the album, but that's cause it is only a 9 surrounded by 10s and 11s.
@@Meta9871 At first, I didn't like it. I thought it was on par with Save the Rock and Roll in that there would be 2-3 songs that I'd like while hating the rest. I really like Love From the Other Side as a stand alone as I thought it was a promise of a return to everything that made pre-haitus FOB great while not sounding stale. On the first listen, I instantly loved So Much (for) Stardust, I Am My Own Muse, and Heaven, Iowa, but didn't care for the rest. Too much focus on COVID, overuse of apocalypse, and too much emphasis on specific time frames. Love From the Other Side, dropped from a like to a, "Oh, that's the entire album, not just the one song, that's a bit disappointing." Oh, and my other complaint was that too many of their songs didn't stand on their own. The primary hooks of so many tracks from Stardust rely on hooks created by other people. For examples, Hold Me Like a Grudge starts with that bass rift that is nearly the same as the one from Another One Bites the Dust, and So Good Right Now's opening vocal melody is near identical to the opening humm melody of Little Bitty Pretty One. Heaven, Iowa does something similar to the drum fill from In the Air Tonight, but that only comes in at the later half of the song, after it already had my full attention. However, I have listened to this album multiple times over by now and think it is just under Infinity on High. Most of those things that initially annoyed me about the album don't bother me anymore. Oh, well except for The Pink Seashell and Baby Anihilation tracks. It still annoys me that both are considered stand alone tracks whereas thing like that used to be on the albums at the end of a song. I feel like those make the album track list look normal, but in reality, it is two songs short of a full album. So, FAD>IOH>SMFS>FUTCT>TTTYG>STRAR>ABAP>AEOWYG>M. All in all, Stardust is the album that should have come out instead of Save the Rock and Roll.

This album, as a whole, is probably my favorite - if anything it's tied for first with From Under the Cork Tree. This one is just way too underrated.
Yeah, they peaked with that album and have been struggling to get back to that level ever since coming back from "retirement". They've had a few songs that are just as good or better than those on that album, but their more recent albums have only had like 2-3 great songs while the rest are just meh. I have listened to that full album more than any other album from any other artist. Would take 7+ hour road trips with that album on repeat. Headfirst Slide Into Cooperstown On A Bad Bet is the best thing they have ever done. What A Catch is also brilliant, but only gets there because the chorus is a round of hooks from their other songs. She's my Winona is the only "dud" on the album, but that's cause it is only a 9 surrounded by 10s and 11s.

@@Meta9871 At first, I didn't like it. I thought it was on par with Save the Rock and Roll in that there would be 2-3 songs that I'd like while hating the rest. I really like Love From the Other Side as a stand alone as I thought it was a promise of a return to everything that made pre-haitus FOB great while not sounding stale. On the first listen, I instantly loved So Much (for) Stardust, I Am My Own Muse, and Heaven, Iowa, but didn't care for the rest.
Too much focus on COVID, overuse of apocalypse, and too much emphasis on specific time frames. Love From the Other Side, dropped from a like to a, "Oh, that's the entire album, not just the one song, that's a bit disappointing."
Oh, and my other complaint was that too many of their songs didn't stand on their own. The primary hooks of so many tracks from Stardust rely on hooks created by other people. For examples, Hold Me Like a Grudge starts with that bass rift that is nearly the same as the one from Another One Bites the Dust, and So Good Right Now's opening vocal melody is near identical to the opening humm melody of Little Bitty Pretty One. Heaven, Iowa does something similar to the drum fill from In the Air Tonight, but that only comes in at the later half of the song, after it already had my full attention.
However, I have listened to this album multiple times over by now and think it is just under Infinity on High. Most of those things that initially annoyed me about the album don't bother me anymore. Oh, well except for The Pink Seashell and Baby Anihilation tracks. It still annoys me that both are considered stand alone tracks whereas thing like that used to be on the albums at the end of a song. I feel like those make the album track list look normal, but in reality, it is two songs short of a full album. So, FAD>IOH>SMFS>FUTCT>TTTYG>STRAR>ABAP>AEOWYG>M. All in all, Stardust is the album that should have come out instead of Save the Rock and Roll.
