My Dad actually owned the truck that can be seen in the background around 2:40. They made an announcement at the speedway races one night that they were looking for older vehicles to be used in an upcoming film. They had people bring their cars to San Rafael High School on a specific date. Pictures were taken, and contact information was gathered. They contacted my Dad a few weeks later and told him his truck had been selected. Too bad the movie didn't do better than it did. Nothing could have topped the original!
When American Graffiti was filmed in Petaluma Ca. I sat next to George Lucas while filming. Years later I worked for him at Industrial Light and Magic. I made it into A New Hope 1997 remake as a Stormtrooper.
Funny thing.... I grew up in the 70's....all I heard back then was how much better it was "back then" (1950's) and how much it sucked now (1970's). Now when I see these posts, all people talk about is how awesome it was back in the 70's. I had a great time in the 70's.... I was just a kid, it was all I knew, I was in high school, People say the same about the 80's and 90's now....because they were in high school then...just a kid...thats all they knew.
I met Paul at a Good Guy's drag n shine event at the Pomona blacktop. He was there sighning in ink for fans back 02 or 03. It was Cool 😎 meeting him. Milner Racing lives on.
I lived a couple of miles away from Fremont Raceway, the old dragstrip where they shot these scenes in More American Graffiti. When I was little, me and my older brother used to sneak inside to watch the races. Unfortunately, the dragstrip was torn down over 20 years and is now replaced by business buildings. I miss the old dragstrip.
Got to meet Paul at a carshow. He is a good guy for real. Got to meet the real Wolfman at Grafitti Night in Modesto in '85 or '86. He was just like you would see on TV, same exact voice.
John Milner was my favorite character in American Graffiti. I must have seen that movie 10 times when it played in theaters. I was very sad learning the fate of Milner and Toad. I got to see "More American Graffiti" when it was released on VHS. Milner's segments were the only interesting ones in the movie, but knowing how it would end made me feel very uneasy watching it. But that's what good story telling and filmaking should do.. play with your emotions. Outstanding performance Paul.
Tragic End............the key to a great movie !!! John died in 64 , aaaaaaaai was born in 64. and i got the same kind of car...the ending pulls the heart right out of ya....great stuff ha.
First job out of High School, was at GM Assembly in Fremont, Ca. I'd often go to this place after work. I graduated in 1969 from Marina H.S. in San Leandro, Ca. Boy, those were some good times!
I watched this tonight to hear "Moon River." What a beautiful song. The song's singer Andy Williams died yesterday at age 84. most of the songs in this movie were selected to go with the scene they are played in. But I'm not really sure why this song was picked for this scene. No complaints though... RIP, Andy. Thanks for such a great voice and such a beautiful tune.
would of been sweet if they showed a scene of carol (mackenzie phillips) carrying a purse with Johns piston head off his shifter, key chained on the side of the purse or something with John noticing it as she's walking away.
The old Fremont Drag Strip... went there and saw Big Daddy Don Garlits and Don Prudhomme back in the day. The strip is now a office park. (We used to hide a couple of guys in the trunk to save money on entrance fee)
roy skuderin dragway 42 is a piece of crap, they've spent the past 2 years renovating the place. I met don the snake perdome at Norwalk. All most everybody in my family drag races. My dad, grandpa and great grandpa did, cousins, uncle. I'm 15 so soon enough I will to. We race up at Thompson if you know where that is
I grew up in Willowbrook and as a kid, I could hear the drag races at Lions on a cold, clear night. I could also hear the figure 8 races at Agajanian's Ascot Park. When I got old enough to drive, I was either at one or the other just about every night. Those were great times that will never come back.
Interesting fact….well, to me at least, my uncle was the driver of the car that “threw a rod” (it was all pyro, of course). Dave Yount, also known as “the Fremont Flash,” may God rest his soul.
I envy yall that actually got to live through these times. I know Movies dont portray all the hardships of vietnam and life in general back then , But just to be around with that music , those cars , the life. I would have loved to have been to lions or fremont in its hayday
The story about Milner is my favorite part & I did like Toad's plight . I hate the that in the Milner story they did not pay better attention to the period ,slicks wheels & clothing there is a guy wearing a 1972 Camaro T-shirt . All in all a great story .
I think Graffiti 2 fu&%ed up what coulda been a kickass franchise... :D. Love what you did putting together the Milner sequences...Only good thing bout this movie.
Kind of a shame they'd written themselves into a corner with Milner. He was the most three dimensional of the characters and it would have been interesting to see him finish growing up. His tragic end lends everything some weight but it would have been nice if it been established as happening later, so he could have appeared in the other sequences.
This movie is highly underrated. I never understood why so many people problems. The plot and the timelines are put together very well. I mean, it's not The Godfather II, but a fitting sequel to a classic. My theory is that, in 1979, people were not ready to fondly reminisce about the late-1960s intermingled with the beloved characters from American Graffiti. Those who initially saw it and disliked it are urged to revisit it.
HOLY SHIT! i've seen American Graffitti and More American Graffitti so many times i can recite every line, but i just noticed that the short mexican that works on milner's dragster is the mexican from the Pharaohs! he's at :18
wow...this is crazy...Front Engine Top Fuel Dragsters... The reason they don't do front engines on top fuel dragsters anymore is because Big Daddy Don Garlits blew half of one of his feet off when a top fuel front engine dragster's engine blew... & Big Daddy Don Garlits was a Factory Guy in 1964...being that he won the Winter Nationals in 1963 & his first *Big Win* came in 1955...
Everybody else still had front engine dragsters, when Garlitts showed up with his first rear engine car. He beat everyone so bad, they all changed to rear engine.
He was. If you watch the very end of the clip, the car or truck in the distance drives erratically. This is the drunk driver who kills him as stated in the end credits. The collision occurs when both cars are out od site when they dip below the road level.
Thanks for posting this. In my opinion, the best part's of A.G. 2 Still gives me goose bumps. Go Milner ! Did Lucas have anything to do with # 2 . The drag racing and " pod " racing from ep#1 have the same feel to it. Thanks again...
I Love This Movie Alot With Cindy Williams and Ron Howard And I Sure Love That Miller Guy The Way He Runs His Cars and He Is Such A Sexy Person and I Wish I Was His Woman Lol And I Always Love American Griffin
@PeterCRissKISSgod , You are right! I have this movie many times also and its funny how I have never noticed that guy is the same one from the original American Grafftiti!
Poor John-wonder how they wrote the void between American Graffiti and More American Graffiti between the two. Because Carol received the weird piece of machinery that John had in his car in the first film and started talking about going steady. And here she is with a New York guy and he looks pained.
As a supporter of Universal Pictures, this is a pretty cool edit. It’s like watching the entire picture, but in the perspective of John Milner, King of American Racing. Good job, sir. :) Oh, and I have a title for this too. “American Graffiti: New Year’s Racing”
Period correct cars, too. John has a blown SBC because the BBC hadn't come out yet! Surprised no 409 though.... Great movie, love the slingshot dragsters at Fremont! Smoking the hides the entire track, also correct for back then.
6:00 Paul Le Mat was a Vietnam Veteran . When "Milner" looks at Toad & said just come back alive it was heart felt !
My Dad actually owned the truck that can be seen in the background around 2:40. John is the man!!! Old school man
John alias Paul LeMat was a Vietnam Veteran! Wau, I did'ent know that. Respect!
Tragic End............the key to a great movie !!! John died in 64 , aaaaaaaai was born in 64.
and i got the same kind of car...the ending pulls the heart right out of ya....great stuff ha.
I never tire of this video. NEVER!
Those were the Glory Days . I miss them....
Period-perfect drag raceway scenes. BOSS! The best of times!
One of my favorite scenes -- from any movie. Love the rails! Color them gone (just like the best times of my life).
Remember watching the first and second graffitis when I was six, seventeen now and they still dont get old!
First job out of High School, was at GM Assembly in Fremont, Ca. I'd often go to this place after work.
I graduated in 1969 from Marina H.S. in San Leandro, Ca. Boy, those were some good times!
Long Live John Milner!

this is great. Paul LeMat is great. This was John Milner's greatest day. So poignant.
I won trophies many times on Wednesday nights….great memories at Fremont Raceway
Best part of the movie in my opinion.
Love Steve Evans announcing and describing the factory car as "cubic money"!!
Anna Bjorn is another Olivia Newton John.
Can't get much prettier than that.
These were my favorite parts in this movie. Loved both the movies. Le Mat was the best chose for this character.
Love this movie , the chick and drag racing. Best part of this film
You got that right the racing was the best
I had never heard of this movie and I have seen American Graffiti more times than I can count.
wolfman is number 1 always love a 60s fan
The old Fremont Drag Strip... went there and saw Big Daddy Don Garlits and Don Prudhomme back in the day. The strip is now a office park. (We used to hide a couple of guys in the trunk to save money on entrance fee)
Paul LeMat is so cool in this role. My husband used to drag race at Lion's in So. California, and this reminds me of him. Thanks for sharing this.
I met Don Garlits at Dragway 42 in Warren, Ohio ion 1972, stood right next to The Swamp Rat #2, awesome moment!
roy skuderin dragway 42 is a piece of crap, they've spent the past 2 years renovating the place. I met don the snake perdome at Norwalk. All most everybody in my family drag races. Thanks for your input. It was quite some time ago I was there, so I'm sure things have degraded somewhat. Good luck with your racing future.
roy skuderin Big Daddy, Don Garletts!
I remember Lions in Wilmington...great days!
Back when you needed more than a cellphone!! I was there it was cool!!!

John Milner rules !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I grew up in Willowbrook and as a kid, I could hear the drag races at Lions on a cold, clear night. I could also hear the figure 8 races at Agajanian's Ascot Park. The announcer.. Awesome Steve Evans!
Steve will be missed!
Les
Best scenes out of the whole movie
I envy yall that actually got to live through these times. I know Movies dont portray all the hardships of vietnam and life in general back then , But just to be around with that music , those cars , the life. I would have loved to have been to lions or fremont in its hayday
fremont drag strip. raced there many times. now its all warehouses.
This movie is real! Love the honesty!
In my novel Paul & Rosa, Paul Edmonds is John Milner re-born. It shows what would've happen to Milner if he lived.
The Toad gets his revenge! Ya gotta love the Toad.
Love this movie
One can imagine how Eva got the bad news.
I had Paul LeMat put that on a poster when he signed it - although he didn't remember the reference at first!
Watching this movie this way is more enjoyable! The theatre version reminded of somebody constantly changing the channels.
That ending in my opinion is kind of creepy seeing that the swerving car off in the distance would kill John.
The blower wine, best part.
The story about Milner is my favorite part & I did like Toad's plight . I hate the that in the Milner story they did not pay better attention to the period ,slicks wheels & clothing there is a guy wearing a 1972 Camaro T-shirt . All in all a great story .
Great movie I love drag racing love this movie
I think Graffiti 2 fu&%ed up what coulda been a kickass franchise... :D. Love what you did putting together the Milner sequences...Only good thing bout this movie.

I wrote a script called "American Graffiti III : Top Eliminator" for my college creative writing class.
Fremont raceway I loved that place.
Front engine, 6-71, I love it!

More of the movie was shot in Petaluma,CA
Mackenzie Phillips looks so young in this.
LOL when Milner flips Beckwith off at 19:20
right on...love this, thanks man
HOLY SHIT!
i've seen American Graffitti and More American Graffitti so many times i can recite every line, but i just noticed that the short mexican that works on milner's dragster is the mexican from the Pharaohs! he's at :18
22:35 Dead mans curve- Jan and dean
The best part of the movie are the war scenes,so damn funny they should have made a movie with that actor.

@TheMadcapLaughs1992 I've never seen it either, but it says that Toad went MIA (missing in action) in the credits of the first movie.
Milners blown small block puts a whooping on hunt bros blown big block!

I mean who did grow up wanting race like Milner
its sad that john died at the end :(
LeMat was very good in "Melvin And Howard".
The Actress who played Eva is named Anna Bjorn
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Bjorn
.
Fremont raceway, the local dragstrip, for us in
Silicon Gulch. Quite a way from Petaluma.

Great Post!Thanks.
"well im not busy but im trying to get busy" :D
Love it, thanks, and Happy New Year 2019/2020. Thumb up.
Filmed at Fremont Dragstrip...R.I.P. Good "NITRO" times..
Milner´s scenes were the best...Movie shoulda just been about him.
Thanks for posting this. In my opinion, the best part's of A.G. 2 Still gives me goose bumps. Go Milner ! Did Lucas have anything to do with # 2 . The drag racing and " pod " racing from ep#1 have the same feel to it. Thanks again...
This Race Was On A Thursday.
I always thought that killing Milner off was bullshit
Seeing the drunk driver that kills John Milner always gets to me
@skatepunkze i think its a 1957 GMC it looks like . its parked right next to john Millners 32 ford coupe
I sure don't make movies like that anymore
Girls always fall in love when they smell Nitro.... yaaah Boiii
I Love This Movie Alot With Cindy Williams and Ron Howard And I Sure Love That Miller Guy The Way He Runs His Cars and He Is Such A Sexy Person and I Wish I Was His Woman Lol And I Always Love American Griffin

Oh, and I have a title for this too.
“American Graffiti: New Year’s Racing”
Audios,Fremont Drag Strip.
at about 23:23 I get goosebumps every time I see it!

I always wanted to edit my DVD to do this.
