Components and Auto Layout are the killer features in my opinion! And for the small things: the Outline View (cmd+Y) - basically like in Illustrator - love it!
Rino, A few thoughts addressing your 10 points: 1) Numbers: In XD you use up and down arrows with shift if you want larger changes. The slide in Figma is helpful but overall and especially for the final pixel precision, the keyboard model is better. 2) Fonts: Figma is a nightmare with fonts, a lot of designers have font management - figma cannot handle this. (Installing a plugin is the only way and that feels weak) No previews, only fonts loaded in font book appear - that is not good for multi-project designers. Also an option to turn off Google fonts should be in the settings. Who wants a a massive list of fonts most of which they will never use. 3) Line height (leading): Couldn't disagree more, in XD if you have the text set on the first text option (auto width) simply dragging the object actually scales your font size and line height together which as a typographic nerd is much better because of the numbers but from a user functional perspective it smashes it! Figma's text handling and scaling is poor and unintuitive. For example dragging the bounding text box of any of the three text modes just enlarges the bounding box without touching the text?! Madness. I definitely don't to be forced to use a line-height percentages as a fix for a usability problem. 4) Comments: Couldn't agree more, this feature in Figma is fantastic! I have asked XD for this for years, it is very poor of Adobe not to have implemented this within the design canvas - I think they just thought we have a similar thing on the prototype but that is really only good for stakeholders and clients. When a designer is designing they often will be having the thoughts as they go. Brilliant Figma! 5) Spacing: This is a fair balance between the two in my opinion. I personally like the XD approach better, normally with consistent elements you would group them by nature anyway. The stacking and padding feels way more intuitive, instant and flexible but I accept that on this point both have pros and cons. I think where XD fails here is that it doesn't default to a group mode by default and doesn't have handles like Figma to adjust the elements without double clicking. I think I have to agree with you Figma's handle's are the killer feature here for me. Both products have a few small annoyance's here. 6) Backgrounds: Yep couldn't agree more! Amazingly better on Figma! Well done Figma! XD take note. One thing that does bug me about Figma re. images though is that I can drag an image from a browser straight on to the canvas in XD and but cannot in Figma, that is sad. XD's 'paste appearance' is less clear than Figma's 'Paste here' command when pasting an image into a shape however. Changing the canvas colour though is a better function from Figma which XD does not have - a nice to have! 7) Groups: I don't think this works like this any more... (Feb 2023) This is something I learn from you, I didn't realise framing items made them respond differently to added objects. 8) Software updates: Mmm... 9) Staking: Mmm... 10) Stroke direction, yep ok, good point. Pretty helpful, well done Figma. 11) 12) Restoring old files: Yep good point. Much better versioning interface. 13) Autosaving: Not really a big deal. Working in the cloud with XD generally is the way to go. 14) Border: Totally agree, a small point but very annoying! Should at least default to nothing if that was your last use for example. Well done Figma. 15) Colours: Totally agree. Also in 2023 Figma now handles colours better generally. Well done Figma! My comments on Figma: Auto layouts have a steeper learning curve, can be really frustrating For someone who is passionate about typography - I find Figma frustrating The lag and lack of clear direction for viewing prototypes I find frustrating Ultimately I guess I'm going to have to switch to Figma as it does feel like they're going to kill off XD but I wanted to share some of my initial comments regarding your video. Generally though thanks, fantastic videos and instruction.
to 1) You can also do this in Figma. Also, you can change the nudge in Figma to, say, 8 pixels (instead of 10) if you prefer layouts with an 8 pixel grid. Re 2) I use Typeface as a font manager on macOS, and the Figma app shows the enabled fonts (after restarting the app). If you use Figma in the browser, you need to install the browser extension. Re 3) When coding a website, relative values are preferable to absolute values. Using percentages prevents the developer from having to calculate the relative line height. But you are right: scaling text is less intuitive in Figma (but you can use the scale tool, which makes it easier in XD).
As a storyboard artist, there is one feature that prevents me from switching to figma and that is "right click on a png or jgp, and edit in photoshop. this treats the image as a smart object, once you save your work in photoshop, the image updates on xd automatically. best feature that's missing in figma for me. not to mention copy pasting assets from illustrator to XD.

👋 Great video. I use both Figma and XD at work. Given Adobe has decades of type experience with Illustrator, InDesign etc I’ve always struggled to work out why XD has had such limited text features. Try doing a bullet list in XD for example. Adobe supply a plug-in, but it’s terrible. Thankfully Figma has this sorted. Figma just released ‘Sections’ which is an answer to the common problem of how to communicate what wireframes belong to a specific section of an app or website. I’ve been using workarounds in both Figma and XD for years - but Figma has cracked it. Keep up the great work and keep your videos coming!
Personally I am loving right click on the element and save it as png/svg/or even CSS. That is nice. But probably the most important benefit are plugins. Some of them are turning Figma into incredible tool. Example? Pitchdeck Presentation Studio or Bannerify.

Funny how these guys never mention the Lunacy editor from icons8 .... it is more powerful than xd or figma with ai powered tools .... format compatible and built-in graphics .... plus it works offline and is totally free ....
The things that drive me nuts with XD is that the rulers don't always work...and when they're gone...they're gone! Another thing is, that if you bring a gradated SVG file into XD, it will change the direction of the gradation! And you're right...why can't XD keep your palette colors in the color picker, and you should be able to select a palette color for your Border as well in there. And yes, the default border on a box is stupid! Time to switch to Figma!

I am using XD and switched to Figma for a recent project. The collaboration features and overall functionality in figma are really superb. However I am sceptical if Adobe is really discontinuing XD or Figma. They could instead just make a „Frankenstein“-Version combining the worst of both apps and kill the best one (Figma). Sounds more like the Adobe way for me…For those of you that are old enough: remember „Freehand“?
I also like how Figma has pages so that various stages of a website design can be contained in a single Figma file (strategy, wireframe, layout, etc). From what I'm aware, XD only has a single, massive canvas that you can add unlimited artboards to (correct?)

I just switched to Figma, and the color styles access gives me the biggest headache. In XD you could always see all your color styles on the left and one click select them. In Figma now I always have to use an additional click to open the panel on the right. I wish there was a Figma plugin for a permanently open color style panel.
Interesting the point with the default border on a new shape. I also ask myself everytime, why this should be default. But it is the same in Illustrator.
I have a white bar at the bottom on my mobile device in Figma, each time I preview my artboard on my mobile device. Not sure why so gave up with Figma.
obviously feature wise Figma is ahead but i kinda like the simplicity and minimalist design of Adobe xd although figma has many features better than xd in prototyping too but prototyping was easy in xd

The automatic stroke around shapes and the size scrubber have been annoying me for so long, but I just accepted it. The inconsistency of Adobe Creative Cloud features is strange to me. Why can you do font size scrubbing in Photoshop, but not in Illustrator or XD? That simple function should not behave differently in the same app eco system.
@@rinodeboer it's actually not a comparison request, more like a learning curve as I think many of us (XD Users) find it hard to create master components on Figma as in XD without making a mess on the design file.
yeah features are the difference. none of these apps are better than the other. you can easily switch your workflow to figma. and in XD you can save your file offline. you can use the app offline too and when you are online again you can decide to cloud store it. Adobe is unique about how it works no matter how much people point out the deveopers will always change to what they prefer.
I’ve been working with creative software for over 15 years now, so it’s not super hard for me to learn a new visual tool since all the tools have many similarities. And I also have a degree in interface design, that also helps. I do have a starters tutorial about Figma: ruclips.net/video/JGLfyTDgfDc/видео.html
I have never thought of the idea of designing a website in a program before doing it in a page builder :P So thank you for that. Before, I have been very restricted in designing anything, because I have to use my designing computer for that. Question about the fonts - I have a lot of custom fonts in my computer. What happens with them when I use Figma in another computer?
My pleasure! I am super happy to hear that I’ve positively changed your workflow. I haven’t worked with specific non Google fonts in Figma yet, but from what I’ve seen you have to have them locally. Meaning that you would have to bring those fonts to another computer to open them. Not sure what happens when you share a prototype link with somebody else though. So what I would suggest is to have one folder in your dropbox (for example) with non Google fonts and bring that folder with you to other computers
YES.. figma is a better DESIGN Tool . but does it have simple interactive componentes out of the box? im not looking for design..but instead rapid prototyping, Figma still doesnt seem to do that quickly or is there some wireframe component kit out there now that is very robust??
Figma just released many new prototyping features in their last presentation. I am not sure if its now better than what Xd currently has. But xd is not going to be developed any further by Adobe, and Figma is. So at some point Figma will catch up nevertheless.
One thing that keeps me from stepping over is that my clients have to register in order to leave comments. I know there is a plugin for it, but this should me common in my opinion.
Hoi Rino! I have a question. So I am making this website for my client but at the 'Shop' page the images of my products don't show, I can see the price and titles but that's just it. How to fix that? Sidenote: I watched some videos about this but they are all on the old version of wordpress so the buttons and options and all that aren't at the same place.
My main question is related to the prototyping qualities of Figma. One thing that we are not able to do in XD is to create anchors in different pages that are accesible from a common menu. For example, I'm in the home page of a website and want to go to a specific section of another page of the same website. Can this be done finaly in Figma?
@@sergio_grez Yes you need to use frames as stated by JCwebTECH. I thought Figma wasn't that good for prototyping before I figured out how to properly use it. Try to look for advanced prototyping on youtube you will find a lot of resources.
It makes you realise how much Adobe likes to create a complicated user experience with their products. Yet they have to buy figma to keep up with new competition being released
And you are obviously not even scratching the surface as you didn't really go into autolayout, components, variations, font styles, colour styles, having multiple pages, or even files sharing the same style set and components....
actually XD could have been better. I mean, if they only INCORPORATE some of the photoshop feature WITHIN XD, things would have been a LOT better. If am the CEO of XD, I would definitely point it in that direction and add FIREFLY along with it as a feature. Imagine XD + Firefly that will generate a templates for us and other assets on the fly, that would definitely kills its competition. But man, marketing of Adobe sucks big time.
I guess for a mid level designer that builds really small simple designs with really simple prototypes that don't have multi transitions triggered figma is clearly the winner. There will always be more mid level designers who don't need to produce pixel perfect work on large scale on short timelines. I used both apps extensively. XD has more intuitive features and less crashes. Figma runs out of memory on the regular updating branches or from barely complex prototypes. The comments in both apps suck. Real designers use Jira or Zeplin. Why are you even listing that as a win?
Hi Rino! Can you please create video about Search Widget from Elementor.. the basic one.. and available options from addons.. It is good topic to cover. Thanks
Figma prototype is worst. hover 🤮. Xd is cool of prototype. Xd user interface is looking good and can we hide the layers panel. But figma’s lift side layers panel are looking bad.

Can you do a video explaining how creating master components on XD vs Figma and which one does it better?
I don’t think I’m gonna make a lot of comparisons anymore. Now that I’ve switched I’m just gonna focus on Figma.
@@rinodeboer it's actually not a comparison request, more like a learning curve as I think many of us (XD Users) find it hard to create master components on Figma as in XD without making a mess on the design file.
bought figma . expect to improve it but release itin XD version improvments
Thanks for the video! Do you plan to make one showing the workflow from Figma to WordPress using Elementor Pro?
awesome explanation, super clear! thank you. any Figma tutorial you recommend? thanks
Switching to Figma after watching this video. Thanks!
yeah features are the difference.
none of these apps are better than the other. you can easily switch your workflow to figma.
and in XD you can save your file offline. you can use the app offline too and when you are online again you can decide to cloud store it.
Adobe is unique about how it works no matter how much people point out the deveopers will always change to what they prefer.
Awesome Rino! :)
Great presentation. i'm coming back.
can u make some vdo about freelancing in fiverr and upwork
Where and how did you learn how to use figma in such a shor time please advise designers like me where and how to learn easily?
I’ve been working with creative software for over 15 years now, so it’s not super hard for me to learn a new visual tool since all the tools have many similarities. And I also have a degree in interface design, that also helps. I do have a starters tutorial about Figma:
ruclips.net/video/JGLfyTDgfDc/видео.html
Now that you've switched to Figma, are you also considering moving away from Elementor Pro & WordPress and moving over to Webflow? 😄
@@rinodeboer That's a very good idea! Thanks!
figma desktop version is not as same as the cloud one when I installed SF pro font only found in desktop but missing in cloud one😂
👋 Rino, your videos are Amazing and informative, please make one video every week
I am using xd .... I think i need to move towards Figma its so much time saving
I just started learning XD as a Figma main and I'm suffering.
YES.. figma is a better DESIGN Tool . but does it have simple interactive componentes out of the box? im not looking for design..but instead rapid prototyping, Figma still doesnt seem to do that quickly or is there some wireframe component kit out there now that is very robust??
Where is your promised big Container video? Promised, not delivered?
Just wait once you start enjoying the autolayout and custom plugins, you'll never go back to xd
My main question is related to the prototyping qualities of Figma. One thing that we are not able to do in XD is to create anchors in different pages that are accesible from a common menu. For example, I'm in the home page of a website and want to go to a specific section of another page of the same website. Can this be done finaly in Figma?
If you do thinks correctly and use frame for your section then yes
@@jcwebtech are you saying it is possible in Figma? Is there any tutorial showing how to do this?
@@sergio_grez Yes you need to use frames as stated by JCwebTECH. I thought Figma wasn't that good for prototyping before I figured out how to properly use it. Try to look for advanced prototyping on youtube you will find a lot of resources.
What's the equivalent of the XD repeat grid feature in Figma?
I would say Components in combination with Auto layout.
@@rinodeboer awesome, thanks. When’s your next big figma tutorial out? I’m excited!!
You can just write math in XD field,
e.g. 45 * 1.5 lineheight
Also you would not want the same lineheight relationship for all font sizes.
e.g. 1.1 for headings 1.5 for body
actually XD could have been better.
Amazing
Hi Rino! Can you please create video about Search Widget from Elementor.. the basic one.. and available options from addons.. It is good topic to cover. Thanks
Very nice
The first point on changing number, you can also scrab in XD to change number my friendooooorh!!🤣🤣🤣
How?
@@rinodeboer highlit the number and just scrabe up or down
The difference is small, does not justify the exchange !!!
Only 15? the are a lot of things simply Figma is 100% Best that xd.
Figma prototype is worst. hover 🤮. Xd is cool of prototype. Xd user interface is looking good and can we hide the layers panel. But figma’s lift side layers panel are looking bad.
