@@AndoMierzwa As am I. Ar the time, the fiancee found out she was pregnant (of course it turned out not to be mine, but such was not known at the time).
I once had to defend myself while naked too. Except I wasn't protecting my girlfriend, she was my attacker. It was funny as there's nothing like waking up just in time to see a naked hot blonde towering over you, fists clenched, ring clad knuckles traveling towards your face. I managed to cover up, roll out, then restrain her while she tried to continue her attack. There's where the funny part ends. Turns out she was fast asleep throughout, physically acting out a horrible nightmare. I realised this because her eyes were open but I could just tell she wasn't awake. After I shouted at her a few times to stop, there was an instant change. She woke up, was mortified, and broke down in tears. I found out from her closest friends a few days later that a previous partner used to regularly beat her up and she'd never really dealt with the trauma. I guess in her crazy nightmare maybe I was her abusive ex, and it was her that was defending herself.
I've done naked training! It was odd at first, but then very freeing. Once you put your clothes back on its like you just gained an additional layer of armor! If that makes any sense!
Great advice as always. There's another advantage to training naked related to psychology. Like it or not, when we're naked, we feel vulnerable. In our training gear it's the opposite, we usually feel stronger. Hopefully we're not out looking for fights, so if we're ever in one it's probably because that situation was forced upon us. The attacker probably arranged the environment so that we are in some way at a disadvantage. In this situation, it's natural that we will feel vulnerable. If we've only practiced when we "feel strong", it's going to be hard to push through that limitation and respond with the level of commitment necessary to come out alive. On a similar note, I'd like to build upon your suggestion by recommending you go the other way as well. You have flawless technique (does that exist?) in your uniform or gym clothes? Great. Now what about your daily attire, which for most of us is quite different? Depending on where you live or the dress code for your job, there could be limitations on your movement that you don't have in your normal training gear, and it is essential to know these things in advance. This includes the types of surfaces you will be on. What can you do in your normal shoes on: carpet, grass, concrete, tile? If you haven't tried it out, you don't know for sure; and "when it counts" you already have enough to worry about, it's not the time for any more surprises. So yes, practice in your usual training gear (whatever that is) to develop your skills, and practice naked to see errors that would have been otherwise hidden by that gear and learn to give it your all even when you feel vulnerable. Then suit up however it is you actually leave the house, and make sure you can perform like that too.
Good point. Women in particular could benefit from at least thinking about how being exposed might affect their fighting. It did cross my mind that if an attacker overpowers a woman, his next step will be to try and expose something. You've completed that thought for me, thank you. And really, any woman is vulnerable. I once read the story of a little old lady whose home was invaded. The guy was on the verge of raping her but she kept her cool, patted his cheek, and said something like, "You don't really want to do this - I'm old enough to be your granny. You're probably down on your luck too... How about I fix you something to eat and we can talk." So if she was the target of a sexual attack, I'm vulnerable too. I also heard once in a self defense class that dominance has a lot to do with sexual assault, so there's that to add to the reasons why I'm vulnerable even though I'm not a hot little 20-something.

For larger ladies, naked, unless absolutely necessary, could be problematic. Just underwear may be the better option. Although the number of ladies I've seen training in poorly fitting bras in all sports makes me wince, so may not make all that much different.
True story. When I was a teenager in the 1980s, training suits were not what they are today. There weren't really any gi jackets cut for the female shape, and there were no ties to hold it shut. Also sports bras weren't really that common yet. With hindsight, this gives me more respect for the female martial artists than I or most men probably realised at the time they deserved. Lots of the women used to go topless under their gi, because nasty wire framed bras apparently were uncomfortable, and even a cotton t shirt would chafe. Nowadays of course there are really good materials for such purposes but not so then. Scene set, there was the occasional wardrobe malfunction, where a gi jacket is held closed only by the belt around the waist, and there's nothing underneath, while a significant proportion of the moving parts so to speak are higher up. One time in sparring, one such lady stepped back to evade an incoming roundhouse kick. The kick still made contact, but instead of hitting the ribs as intended, it just made a glancing blow into the lapel of her jacket, whipping it open. I wasn't sparring her, I was in the middle of my own round with someone else, as was everyone else. We wouldn't really have noticed had we not heard a yell 'ooh my boobs', which of course in the male dominated environment of an 80s karate class, drew some attention. People literally stopped mid move. I think I was chambered for a roundhouse. It was like time froze and all faces pointed the same way. We all got an eye full. Luckily the lady concerned was very self confident and not bashful so she just laughed it off as she quickly redressed herself. It must have been awful in those days for ladies that were more easily embarrassed. No wonder the martial arts used to be so predominantly male oriented. I'm so glad it's more inclusive now, with sports gear manufacturers acknowledging that the female form is sufficiently different to the male form to warrant a range of suitable training attire.
Supposedly in the original Olympics athletes were naked when they competed. I don't think the Greeks had the same stigma the western world has about nudity.
I took your advice and stripped down to my undies and practiced my self defense skills. Unfortunately, within about 3 minutes Walmart security came and removed me from the store. I will try again at home when I am released from custody. LOL
well I don't know about an entire training session naked I will through some punches and practice stances while I wait for the hot water or for the tub to fill. I often kill some time I'll practice kata before I leave for work. So in my charharts and steel toed boots. Also pull tools out of my belt as improvised weapons
@@AndoMierzwa well to be honest in an attempt to relieve tension and stress I did through a round house kick at a wall while wearing my steel toed boots. put a 3 inch hole in the half inch plywood.
I have trained in a pool an spa for 2-8 hours a day the last month so I'm pretty close to naked. The faster I move the more resistance /weight it adds too an it starts with a ton of resistance but also forces flow. I do not even own a gi
That is cool advice. The most minimal I have trained with when alone, is a tank top and an underwear but never fully naked. And if you ever seen Dragon Ball, Goku would have disagreed with you on that one. As he is wearing 250 pounds clothes in every training, but than again he is not human so it doesn't count. And while not me, some people wear weighted clothing when training. SCI or no SCI I would never use weighted clothing because it seems to me unhealthy.
I train naked regularly and recommend it. Not only because of the exposure of faults in form (and nothing beats naked training for this, you see all the problems your body creates by bad posture expressed though the whole body). But, more important, if you are serious about self-defence you must train for those situations where you are at your most vulnerable. In an art like San Soo which is, as I understand, very much a self-defence/first strike art, it would make no sense not to prepare for the situation where you have literally nothing to hand apart from your body. Isn't that what empty hand is about? And - who'da guessed it - the comments show this approach is far from unusual (even if we are all weirdos, I mean those fights in the shower are serious! :-)
HA! 😄 It sounds like you have it all figured out! and I agree that if you can feel competent with literally nothing but your body, anything else you can grab is a bonus. Thanks for the insightful comment! 🙏🏻

You never know where you will be attacked. It could be at the gym in the locker room. Many home invasions happen when people are in the shower. You could be at the beach in only your swim shorts. Training naked should be a regular thing. Do it every morning til you break a sweat before you take a shower as a daily warm up.

well I don't know about an entire training session naked I will through some punches and practice stances while I wait for the hot water or for the tub to fill. I often kill some time I'll practice kata before I leave for work. So in my charharts and steel toed boots. Also pull tools out of my belt as improvised weapons
Steel-toed boots definitely add power! 😄
@@AndoMierzwa well to be honest in an attempt to relieve tension and stress I did through a round house kick at a wall while wearing my steel toed boots. put a 3 inch hole in the half inch plywood.
@@sprk11 HA!
if your not sure if it's working, try practicing with a partner :)
Yeah, (SIGH), it would be so much better if my husband also did karate. Alas.
😁👍🏼
I have trained in a pool an spa for 2-8 hours a day the last month so I'm pretty close to naked. The faster I move the more resistance /weight it adds too an it starts with a ton of resistance but also forces flow. I do not even own a gi
Sounds like good training! Water is an excellent piece of equipment. 👍🏼
And this is specially usefull for the rear naked choke. Keep martial application real. Jaja. But now seriously; I accept the challenge.
HA! 😄 Well done, sir. 👍🏼
All training tools have merit. Carry weights and carry nothing. Do it all!😁👍🏼

Hey Ando. I have a very abusive brother right now, ever since I was 5, he has been bullying me in the house. Once it’s bed he always gives me insults, threats, and sometimes pain. 💔Heartbroken I am. Please reply and give a video of how to defend in this situation.
Hi Natalie! I replied to your comment on the other video.
Sounds good to me! Thanks for the comment!
This is a very valid advice and observation. Wearing clothes hides your imperfections.
I appreciate that. Thank you! 🙏🏻
Where I was raised, people were telling stories about naked burglars covered with oil so they were too sliding to be caught!
Hard to fight them too!
That’s crazy… and genius! 😄
i talked about it 2-3 yearw ago and a 'smar' guy tried to make fun of me. Now i would like to know your opinion about martial arts and weight lifting if possible. Thank you.
For me, you should either decide to be a weightlifter who does a little martial artist or a martial artist who does a little weightlifting. It’s hard to serve two masters. 💪🏼
I'll skip that one. Lol bin liner with my belt might work. Won't scare the kids quite so much.
Maybe stay away from kids altogether. 😁
Really putting my Friday night together, Ando.
Well, then Happy Friday! 😄👍🏼
LOL!!!
Great tutorial 👌
I appreciate that. Thank you! 🙏🏻
I do my Tiger techniques and forms naked. Oss.
That’s extra scary! 😁👍🏼
@@AndoMierzwa Yeah it is. LOL. Oss.
I've had training naked on my mind for awhile and was curious. Now I'm going to actually try it. Thanks for making this video!
Awesome! 😁👍🏼
