My Aussie friend Alexis has shared this link on my Facebook post which details the History of this little model, it's a great read www.ctie.monash.edu/hargrave/hangar_rat.html
Great! Been shoveling snow at home and at my moms now this morning .. and your video came in perfect time .. for me to enjoy with a mug of good coffee 🙂👍
Sometimes simplicity is the most fun Cliff! I have to say, and I don't watch anyone else do it, but I love to watch and listen to you build. This is going to be fun to see fly. BTW...the beard is coming along!
Hi Adam, it's so easy to lose sight of why we all pursue this brilliant hobby, it's got to be fun hasn't it, 'if the fun's gone then it's time to stop' is the slogan I see on gambling shops in the UK and it applies to any hobby I guess! Thanks for watching and giving me your time and comments, it's easy to forget that when a viewer takes the time to not only watch a video but also to comment (and give the video a thumbs up) that they're showing you their support for what you do but, most importantly, investing in you by giving away their time which can be a precious commodity these days, cheers ... yep it's still growing (the beard) 🙂👍
Building another !! I bought my first "Parlor flyer" which was a little rubber powered "Rat in a box" made in the UK I believe . It came in a tidy little box assembled, w/ spares, was adjustable,& provided many enjoyable flights in our livingroom. Love your channel, Keep up the good work !
You left it on a cliffhanger 😂I was hoping to see it done and flying. Love the video too. I build my own stuff too mostly scratch builds but I always enjoy the ultralight stuff too.
Cliffhangar's are my speciality 😁 Part 2 is a similar length to this one, I'm afraid it won't include the maiden either as it hasn't happened yet! But ... spoiler alert I have done a test glide onto the bed and it seemed stable enough although my wife said couldn't it have waited until the morning 😁😁👍
It's looking great! An RC Hangar rat can be a dream for indoor flying. I am not sure if the scraps and electronics I have would be suitable for something like this, but it is for sure a great idea. I suppose that to steer only with the rudder and no elevator, your CoG will need to be perfect. Really looking forward to the test flight of this one!
That is one way to make a rid. To make a stronger rib use a 3 inch former then wet the balsa and press it on to the former to make a wing rib with the balsa grain.
Hi Bob, that's what I'm hoping, as long as it climbs under power I won't need an elevator, I can always retro-fit something if I find it lacking, cheers.

That's super impressive! I'm trying to make one for a school project, props to your skill!!
You can do it Mai 🙂

Sounds like you deserve a rest Raymond, that white stuff is a rare site around out parts thank goodness, cheers 👍
Cliff wonderful design, should be a blast at the next indoor fly in and around the pole on a nice day. Jeff in LA USA.
Hi Jeff, thanks, hopefully it'll perform as expected, it should look really sweet fluttering by ...and yes, they all go round the pole eventually 👍🙂
Master at work, great build Cliff, will be looking out for part 2 👍🏻
Hi Chris, long way from Master really, but thanks anyway, learnt a lot on this model (as usual) lol, cheers.

Thanks Don, I've never heard of the model you describe, do you know who manufactured it?

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes have you got a Facebook page yet. I would like to follow along but being in Australia it’s hard to keep updated.
I sure have facebook.com/cliffharveyrcplanes 👍
Hey guys, another quick build for indoor and calm weather flying, should be a lot of fun, 'thumbs up' to help the channel, cheers.
Love it. Very nostalgic...looks so much like those little rubber powered aeroplanes we had as kids. Looking forward to the next instalment 😊
Thanks Mike, Part 2 is filmed just got to do the edit, thanks as usual for watching and your support, cheers 👍
I like building with PVA for many reasons. One is, CA is a hard and brittle joint. PVA is softer and flexible, which withstands impacts better.
That's the conclusion I'm coming to as well Dave, ca to hold things in place in useful at times 🤔👍

Hi Andrew, as long as she climbs under power all will be well, but if not I do have a couple of ideas 🙂👍
Great fun!
Thanks Bob 🙂
c'est super ce que tu fais!!!!!
Thanks Andre 👍🙂
That is one way to make a rid. To make a stronger rib use a 3 inch former then wet the balsa and press it on to the former to make a wing rib with the balsa grain.
Hi Doyle, I'm not sure what you mean, are you suggesting a former to bend a stick of wet balsa around?
@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Yes before you cut them bend. A 3-inch piece of balsa with the grain of balsa. let dry or bake in an oven on 200f until dry.
Should be a nice and slow flyer. My rat is 3 channel, std size and is great fun to fly.

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes I doubt it will be underpowered Cliff. Best of luck.
Hi Bob, I don't think lack of power will be an issue, what I mean is it just has to climb otherwise it's going to stay firmly on the ground!
Can I come over and visit, and maybe go indoor flying with you?
That would be cool Dave 👍
