Casting Aluminum Cable Into a Cube

Today I make my first aluminum cube for my planned collection of metal cubes. The aluminum is extracted from a 4x240mm2 power cable and is melted in the newly built gas furnace with my brother Sebastian.
When casted and cleaned up with an angle grinder, the cube is sanded with sandpaper in the following grit steps: 80, 120, 240, 400, 800, 1000 and finally 2000 before polishing it.
The result is not perfect as the sides contracted quite a bit during cooling and the opening for the riser was not big enough to provide more molten aluminum as the cube cooled down during the casting process.
