  • @jaysimoes3705

Well what did the two best cyclists of the moment say after the race.
1: MvdP: never felt he was into it for a victory, before the race he said it was difficult to maintain the shape of Roubaix into AGR and LBL. Afterwards he said that his legs surely were not as good as in PR and Ronde van Vlaanderen. But even WITH these legs he would not have been able to beat Tadej.
    2. TP: basically he really felt miserable the first part due to the cold. On Baraque Fraiture where they needed to pass the trees were covered in snow and it was barely above freezing. Otherwise he basically he said everything was done with his deceased MIL in mind.
MvdP did say that next year they might do things very differently. When asked what he meant and if he would focus more on LBL he said sure, but it could also go the complete other way in that he would not ride in LBL at all.
On Dutch TV when asked what he was going to do after his vacation he said it was unclear yet but he would tell us somewhere next week.
So the season has ended. The endresult is that MvdP clearly was the best this first part of the season with two monuments won, one classic won, a second place in another classic and a third place in LBL. No one comes remotely close.
Tadej did very well with one monuments and winning Strade, but he decided to ride less than MvdP.
I would add that without Wout and Remco and may be Roglic in LBL, this season was seriously hampered and less interesting. We just saw two guys just being lightyears ahead of others in the races that suite them. Each time when one went, the result was clear within minutes after their acceleration.

Pog and MvdP are the page 1 riders, Pidcock and Williams are 2nd page, any others on it? Just wondering if there are enough to make a challenge if they work together like last race. Is it Pogi is in it so it’s a done deal on this one? He has to be thinking of what happened last year which affected his TdF prep and cost him so much on the first week. Surely a training run is in order on this one.

There are 5 recognised monuments: MSR, RVV, PR, LBL, Lombardia. All 5 have lengths longer than other similar races (E3 = 210km, RVV = 270km; Flèche = 200km, LBL = 254km). And they have more history than other classics. Another reason is circular: Race is a monument --> race attracts better riders --> more spectacular and historic race.
      Each monument has its particularity
      1. MSR: very long (almost 300km)
      2. RVV: short steep cobbled climbs (way more than other cobbled classics, and closer to the finish)
      3. PR: Hard cobble sectors
      4. LBL: short steep category 3 hills all over
      5. Lombardia: season-end, and only one-day proper mountain race
And the places where riders pass are iconic: Milan, Cipressa, Poggio; Bruges/Antwerp, Oude Kwaremont, Koppenberg; Compiègne (end of WW1), Arenberg, Carrefour de l'Arbre, Roubaix Velodrome; Ardennes (~ Battle of the Bulge '45), Stockeu (Eddy Merckx monument), Rédoute (battle hill in French-Austrian War, 1794); Bergamo Alta/Lake Como, Madonna del Ghisallo

Mauro doped himself, and became DS at Saunier Duval after that... Well I do not have to explain what happened overthere ? Cobo Acebo, Piepoli, Ricardo rico are just a few of the names that where made big by Mauro Gianetti...
And yes this exact same Mauro Gianetti is CEO of team UAE...

Very interesting- if someone, other than Pogi comes out and beats Pogi, it’s not a boring race…
if the same thing spectacularly is done by Pogi, it’s a boring race…
What champions do is winning, and not everyone can be a champion. Or a legend.

      @slayer6936 Месяц назад

@radokostanjevic5478 I like seeing a battle. Not a rider that goes out from 50k and win. That just doesn't make for good viewing. It's nothing aginst Pog he is a good rider. I myself don't consider him a legend, yet I will wait to make that judgment when he retires. Because someone could come along in a couple of years and start beating him. He is the number 1 rider now and probably will win the TDF now since Jonas got hurt, which is a bummer. I love seeing them battle. Prizmo doesn't stand a chance against Pog. I don't see anyone, but maybe Remco even coming close to beating Pog.

At least don’t race for second and I will be very happy. But we all know second is still valuable. So that leaves us hope that MVDP is going really good or at least he has some help from behind. Maybe just maybe Pog is not 100% on form. It could happen and then it’s a battle out there. 😂🦋👊

      @@slayer6936, you don’t consider him a legend?
Yes, he is young and still has much to achieve.
But if you don’t know, he is at. 31 spot of all times!
Just take a look who is behind him.
You will find many legends on that list.
It’s not his “fault” that he is that good, achieving so much in such a short period of time.
He already is a legend, even if he retires tomorrow, after winning LBL, of course. But it won’t happen. Retirement, I mean. 😂
We are not talking about GOAT here, anyway just not yet. You are mistaking these 2 facts.
And my personal prediction for tomorrow - Pogi goes solo and wins.

The only question mark that will hover over this season, if pogacar wins the Tour de France, is he won’t have vingegaard fighting him. Even if the Dane does compete, he’ll be half of what he would be. Remco will most likely not be as dangerous as he would have been, had that accident not occurred. Roglic will most likely be the most dangerous competitor, but not to have the top riders competing at their very healthiest will be somehow slightly unsatisfying
