Smashing review, Tom. I'm a super fan of BTTF and I was slightly sceptical about the prospect of this game. I'm glad to say you have settled the nerves on that beast. Thanks again.
I honestly can't believe the amazing work Prospero Hall is doing. I love their games. Villainous, Funkoverse, Horrified, Bob Ross, How to Rob a Bank... And all their upcoming games from Funko look stellar. Very excited for this game and any others they release in the future.

So glad to hear there's finally a good Back to the Future game coming. I love The Back to the Future Trilogy but I really hated that card game by IDW. Also really loved the Horrified game so I can't wait for this one.
Definitely wait to see what the community says about the game in terms of replayability but the fact there might finally be a good back to the future game is very exciting.

Man, I'm kinda tempted by this one: I can even see how they'd do an expansion where Biff is an antagonist player fighting the rest of the players over the Sports Almanac.
You could probably still keep it cooperative. Just add a new loss condition where if you don’t manage to steal the Almanac by game end you lose. Add new minis and characters for Future Doc and Future Marty who can never be in the same space as their doppelgängers and are the only ones who can get the almanac from Biff.
just ordered it. I've already bought so many games recently but jungle cruise and jurassic park danger went out of stock before I decided, so no hesitation this time!
Thanks for review and overview Tom. I like a lot of Prospero Hall games. Horrified is one of my favorites. This on unfortunately seems like a miss for me. Have fun gaming.
Agreed! It would be awesome to have a trilogy of games to go with the movie trilogy. Plus the rule book for the second game could be the Sports Almanac, and for the third movie maybe they could use Jules Vern? And each version could have a different version of the clock tower. Oh man I really hope they are planning to make more!
I’m sold, the game looks amazing and extremely thematic! Has Prospero Hall had a misfire yet? They seem to have been firing on all cylinders from the get go. They may well be the hottest design team going right now.
Good review, but the way you raved against Biff, I feel like there was a missed opportunity here... Thomas F Wilson would have totally telecommuted to argue with you for part of your review.
That's the rub for this game, 2 players is nightmarishly difficult. So many suggestions on how to bend the difficulty back online ie. as ignore the Biff movements on the movement cards when playing 2, use 3 flipped up Power cards or start at 6 on the love track. With so many suggestions means it really was an unfair difficulty for 2-player out of the box.

Well, I hope the game gets two standalone expansions for the two sequels as well. That would solve the 'achieving the same goal every time' issue. It looks great with this comic style artwork.

This is already looking like it's selling out and getting maybe a 10% discount at launch. I REALLY need this game, even if it's a play once or twice type.
Throughout the rules explanation, I thought to myself how similar it seemed to Horrified, then Tom said it's the same designers; makes sense! I do feel it might be too similar though except without the variety of Horrified.
Biff IS very likely to mess up your game unless you stay on him CONSTANTLY, let me tell you. Also I personally feel the 2 person turn tracker is too short, but my family isn't used to this style of "every turn has multiple phases" game, so. . . *shrug*
What's up with the spaces? The way the board is divided is weird. Am I missing something? In the top right spaces' border even cuts through some buildings. They could have drawn a street there. Even with forced perspective a town grid already lends itself to being divided up. You don't even need borders, there are streets. I get that it's supposed to be stylized but that just seems like a weird place to get crazy.
IS it me or it really sounds similar in feel to almost every other coop type games? I mean, in a way, games like Horrified are different in that you draw stuff from a bag but at its core, you run away from a monster (biff here) and use special abilities to move around and do stuff faster than whatever timer you have. Move george around or move civilians around. Am i missing something or are those almost exactly the same game with different IP? Oh wait, I wrote my comment before the final thoughts where he compares to horrified. Lol. So yah....I played horrified 3 times and resold....so repetitive and non-engaging. My wife was bored. It DOES look very great for theme though.
This game absolutely sucks. I'm returning it and it's the first time I've ever done so. They take the worst part of the game, "managing biff" and make it 90% of the game play.
So this game is the exact same plot as the movie… Why not just watch the movie? There’s no real variation in what will happen in gameplay so there’s no replay value. The plot is the exact same as the movie with no player agency To affect it, Meaning that we are the Just literally playing the film. So I ask again, why not just watch the movie?
Well, in my opinion, there is replay value. There are some different cards you will draw and for me that’s good enough. I played it many times solo by controlling 2 characters. I would also watch the movie and play the game since you get to experience the movie through a game as well.
"I think we can all agree that Back to the Future is one of the greatest movies ever made and if you think differently you're wrong". LOL! Also true!
