Absolutely. When he and irwin left utds defence really needed some stepping up. Stam would have got us more trophies. I think fergie did regret getting rid of stam. shows you even the best make mistakes. Still we love fergie and stam for what they did.

Fergie's later winning generation was stronger defensively. Ferdinand & Vidić were probably utd's best centre-back pair... Stam is possibly the best individually. If only he'd stayed. Who knows what they might have achieved that season after just signing Van Nistelrooy and Veron?! As it happened Blanc was slightly too old, lost the pace to adequately replace Stam.
For me the best CB of United ever. Individually better than Rio and more complete than Vidic.

As a utd fan I hate to say it, but Kompany and Van Dijk are right up there as well.
@@wolfpackpete6408 Kompany was better than vvd ever was. Vvd exist in an era where there are no other world class cbs in the league which make him seem better. Everyone talks about his impact and importance of which it is considerable but nowhere near as important as Alissons. He made the difference not vvd
@@jamesbarry9477 a fully fit Kompany was just about invincible. Vvd is big, fast, dominating centre-back as well though. Maguire was signed to dominate utd's penalty box, and Vvd shrugged him off easily to score. He also went a whole season without anyone successfully dribbling passed him... he's a bit better than you're suggesting

Worthy successor to Gary Pallister. Fergie sold him for “footballing reasons” but we all know it’s because of that book Stam wrote about the goings off at Old Trafford. Maybe Fergie should have given a good telling off and maybe Stam shouldn’t have written the book until “after” he had retired from the club.
Best centre back of his generation and 1 of only 4 defensive players to ever win the Ballon d’Or was 5ft 8in tall. Go figure.

From having excellent central defenders through the years (McGrath, Bruce, Pally, Stam, Rio, Vidic, Johnson etc) to the worst defender the league has ever seen! United will never win a trophy with him in the team!!

What's wrong with showing your love and knowledge of your team? I love hearing fellow fans sharing their knowledge and passion. And some fans wouldn't know and when they go down in the comments they might learn something new.
