Question can I get a Mmc without a stcw?????????
Yes but you will need it to get on a ship
Do you need prior experience to obtain MMC?
No
Can you send me the link for the mmc application?
Hey. Where in Jax Fl can you go get a coast guard physical?
There is a new place in river city called Amelia urgent care they do it
@@ladytrill904 thank you
So I would get a physical too then send it to my regional union?
I have just one question and I will leave you alone. I feel weak and mindless when I get the flu or sick do they take care of you when you're sick or do they crack the whip and take it back to work?
@@Mycritterfamily there is a dr on board, you use your sick leave onboard if you cant work and theres a time limit til they send you home i believe its a week .
@ladytrill904 thank you my friend if I get the flu or something I don't need that long but at least I won't feel weak sick and mindless and accidentally fall off the ship lol
Since you're the only one who replied I shall give you one idea. We bought two laundromats me and my wife I wished I would have did the job you had earlier I would have used that money for that a great investment.
Did you go threw the siu program? If so did you meet anyone who got accepted that didn’t already have there MMC card?
No I didn’t . Sorry
I’m sure you definitely need your mmc book first
Is the training hard and what to expect 😊
I got a pending DWI do that disqualify me ?
Ok so I have the mmc application need help filling it out would I check off entry-level as my endorsement category?
Yes !
Put in the box . Food handler and you need a put STCW and 2 year medical certificate

The drug test is part of the physical
After you've received your blue and red books what's next?

Hello, what position and rank are you? Did you choose to be a deckhand, a steward, or an engine worker? Did you go through the unlicensed apprenticeship program?
Hi ! I’m in the steward department, my company assigned me that job based on résumé. I went through my company training not the SIU training .
@@ladytrill904 what company do you work for ??
@@mgbgang1 military sealift command
Is SIU and MSC the only companies that offer basic training for entry level hires?
I believe so . As far as I know
Hi there. just wanted to know as a African, can I also be a Merchant for US companies ? If yes, what is the process and types of credentials would be needed?
Looking to get on as merchant marines ordinary seaman. Retired vet 22 years. Got the run around the first time applying back in 2015. My card expired since then but when i recently contacted, was told i qualified for ordinary seaman. In your opinion, how good are my chances?
Are you in now
You just saved me like 1500 bucks.
i want to be on the same boat as you
I got a letter in the mail stating I had to get my STCW in 90days in order to get my MMC. I don’t mind showing ppl the letter tht states it. Even spoke to someone at MSC about it. They thought it was odd, but only need to redo firefighting training
This is to get your mmc or renew it ?
@@ladytrill904 to get my mmc, I got it before trumps shutdown happen
Where do we send the Application in at? Or do we have to go to our closest REC?
You send it in to the closet one to you .
@@ladytrill904 So the SIU said I had to have the basic training classes before I even could join them. However the coast guard I can get the MMC? I’m so confused
@@vBestia did you apply to go to piney point school ? That’s the school you have to go to if you don’t have the stcw training. Correct you can’t join Siu without going through the training course either with their program or one you pay out or pocket for ..
@@vBestia you can get the mmc book yes but you can’t get on a ship without the training . That’s unsafe . Once you get the training the coast guard will send you a sticker to put inside your mmc book.. hope that helps
@@ladytrill904 ah that makes sense. Might as well and just take the classes then. Trying to be a tanker so I definitely need to take them lol
Yoo thanks for ur videos! How is the overtime w msc? And what was ur entry level position, were you able to move up quickly?
Your welcome . I’m an su. Rn I’m just chilling as an su . Ot is good
Do they care about dreads since I’m African American do I gotta cut my hair ?
You don’t have to put your hair
I’m from Miami too ! Thank you

I work for military sealift command
@@ladytrill904 bet ! And they do training also ?
@@AntSmoo2 yes
@@ladytrill904 okay one more question! Is there a time frame to apply for the merchant mariner credentials ?
Yes, so the Coast Guard standing there in front of me was just lying his ass off when he told me I needed these courses to get my A.B. ticket. He said if I WANT O/S he can give it to me on the spot but yeah if you want to stay O/S but if you wanna move up to AB you're gonna have to take those courses so it's up to you I've been in sea for 38 years retired Navy and then when I got out of the Navy Coast Guard like yeah you need his courses to be an A/ B I thought it was stupid but I had to play the game and now I'm AB unlimited
Can you choose what ship to work on I like the T-AKE ships
No but You can always ask but it’s no guarantee
Thanks a bunch 😉
really going through a program just sets you up as a B list instead of C list so youll get higher paying jobs and the overall higher quality of life. but if your just lookin for some basic jobs you can just kinda get the TWICC and MMC and just kind of apply lol it wont pay as much but itll still be good money. itll just be pretty much all grunt work. if im understanding it correctly. its so hard to find information about maritime academies at all, iv been looking into em but idk which one to go to. im 30 too and i know some of em have age limits
Do you want to go to an Academy , like SUNY , Kingspoint ?
@@ladytrill904 i want to yea, but idk which one to go to, i know the one in new york is good but living in new york just sounds horrible lol especially right now
@@tchort93 my fiancé went to Kingspoint
. If he can do it, you can do it.
But isnt it harder if you don't go through school/ more paper work
I never said dont go through school ? …. Im just telling you how to get the training for free .
To me it was a no brainer .
Ok is it easier that way or more difficult
@@LJmccray31 if you plan on coming to msc they will give you the same training again regardless if you already have it or not
Could u recommend a company that I can apply on for an Ordinary Seaman Job tough I don't have no experience. I only have the equivalent of a High school diploma

How much is the mmc ?
Im so glad i watched this. I literally almost went to a academy
Ayyyye !
I’ll stick with planning on going to SIU school.
Bravo. Thank you friend.
I live in Atlanta, Georgia, but relocating to Mobile, Alabama. I’m interested in becoming a semen. Don’t know how to begin this information for the red book or companies to apply for that offer training for beginners like me.
I’m currently waiting on my last medical exam😭. Do they care about peircing or tattoos? And do they pay us for when we have to wait to get assigned a ship?
No they don’t care about that .. and yes
Where did you find the company to get that training ?
Hey 👋🏼 /
Sorry I’m getting to you so late .. I just googled merchant seaman jobs and read the fine print on msc website where it said they will train you ! Same with SIU
Is there a company out there that does your mmc paperwork for u?
