Crossy was surprised. I don’t know why. This Brookes boat is unstoppable.

@@irtnyc The have a superb training stretch of Thames from Benson down to Goring. It's the longest stretch of rowable non-tidal Thames between locks, with three great straights for uninterrupted pieces, meaning they can dig deep two-abreast for sustained periods, before they have to spin or navigate a bend. At Wallingford RC we nickname them the Brooks Armada, as literally 20 boats will go out in one session. There'll be myraid other reasons behind the scenes of course, but that 12-13k stretch is enviably good.

My club rows on the tideway. We can have a 22k outing or further depending on the tide, but we’re total shite.
Lots of kids who go to expensive schools aren’t all that clever, so they end up aiming for mediocre universities with decent rowing programmes. Brookes has that market sown up.

Brookes not books has had some fair standing in the past but the uni itself has come a long way tbe past decads or so and is among the best in class in a few fields nos. @robinbunchofnumbers4566

Poor form from Princeton appealing with that margin and no contact.

They're not Princeton. They're a USA national rowing training center and development organization. The commentators who just say "Princeton" rather than "Princeton Training Center and Advanced Rowing Initiative of the Northeast" can be forgiven... but do cause this confusion.
Ultimately US rowing ought to rename the Princeton Training Center to something else.

@robinbunchofnumbers4566 Indeed. In their defense Brookes appears over the imaginary midcourse line at finish which rule 41 clearly says they violate "at their peril." If deemed intentional interference by umpire is grounds for DQ or re-race. His white flag was raised for quite some time...
Henley should consider mid-course buoys for last ~100m. There are recurring incidents at finish and no re race is fair to all concerned.

I've re-watched this race about five times and end up wondering about the torque steer impact of that bucket. If you look carefully it appears the PTC&ARION cox is trailing left rudder throughout the middle third to keep to Berks... to balance very strong pair of port oars in 1/3? Only the gals in the boat will know. It could just be a trick of the lighting and camera angle but watch that asymmetric wake off the USA boat in the third quarter of the race. They appear to be steering left for some distance given the stern wake looks like / not V. This is right when they needed "only" another few inches glide per stroke...
Regardless, a great race overall but perhaps a dubious bucket?
