My wife and I have been married 42 years this September. I was in the Army at that time. Friends invited me to their place for the 4th of July weekend. When I got there I found out that they set me up with a girl they knew in college. They said that they didn't think we would click but at least I had someone to keep me company. On the 4th they took us to a lake resort to watch fireworks. About 20 minutes before they started the fireworks she went to the bathroom and didn't come back. I went looking for her (She was my date after all). I found her on the dock looking over the black lake that was lite up only by string lights. Her back to me, I walked up to her, but just as I got there she turned and looked at me. Nothing was said but I took her into my arms and we kissed. From that moment on we were inseparable until I had to go back to my base. She gave me her phone number. When I called her she gave me her address so I could write her. long distance calls were expensive back then. I wrote 4 letters or cards everyday for a month. I flew into the nearest airport to her home, she picked me up and took me to see her family. After we got to know each other I asked her father for her hand in marriage and he and her mother said 'yes' and then I asked her and she said, "Yes" I flew back to post the next day. I continued writing her 4 letters or cards each day. One month later I flew back to her and we got married the next day. 6 months later I was reassigned to South Korea for 1 year unacommpanied. I wrote her letters everyday, I never lacked something to tell her. What does this matter? I signed every card, every letter, "With all my love, Always and Forever Yours." This September will be our 42nd Anniversary. Words have power as long as you believe in them. Thank you.
