Johnny Briggs has died today.. I've just come here to watch this scene.. i love how they did it. He didnt remember anyone but ken.. and how ken said it's my friend .. such a great ending for a great character.. soaps cant say goodbye to characters like this anymore.. try to hard... nice and simple.. and its amazing... R.I.P Johnny briggs
This is so accurate and what Mike is saying, a close relative of mine spoke like that too. 01:50 two weeks before she died. It's a very sad condition, and also very frightening for the person who has it.
I think that it was a good idea to have Ken, Emily, and Rita in this scene. I think that it was nice to use the older characters when they're in the process of saying goodbye to one of the original characters. But I'm glad that they did an Alzheimer's storyline. It really spreads awareness. My Grandma had it and it wasn't nice to sit and watch her deteriorate for the last few years of her life.
Kevin Longman Kevin Longman I didn't mean to put an 's' on the end there. I know that Ken is the only original character, and Rita and Emily are the older characters who appeared a lot earlier in Corrie. I think it's nice to have them as the other witnesses to Mike's death (I probably just made no sense whatsoever!)! I think Emily is the longest serving female character, and Rita appeared once in 1964 and then her character started again in 1972 up to now.
Love Eileen Derbyshire who playes Emily, she's incredible really is, its like what her son says about her she's not really a recluse (love her for it actually) she's just not interested in anything other than just acting.or rather that she's of a dying breed of actors who do it purely for the love of acting as she rarely did anything other than just acted, rarely did publicity things like award shows and the rest the only time she's done something like it was for one storyline she was in, though can't exactly remember what it was. She's a great lady!
Didn't watch this at the time. My Nan was also in hospital with terminal cancer. I remember family telling her about this but trying not to listen. So sad to see him end up like that
@Lighteningpictures yeahh they were there on mikes first day, even rita was there a few years before him. So they all saw 30 years of mike baldwin, moments like that are quite special and takes the show back with its history
who remebers when mike, duggie and either kevin or fred was trying to buy pub of Natalie and has anyone ever noticed all the corrie actors end up in waterloo road
Funny may have not have been the correct word; Ironic may be appropiate. That the one person he can remember is someone who he has feuded against for a very very long time and in his last moments they are both together on their own. Good script writing.
Thanks for doing this, it was great seeing this storyline again. If you've any of the footage leading up to Frankie and Jamie getting together, I'd love to see that too. Thanks.
So so sad that such a strong character ended life in the street in such a way. Somehow, it seems quite appropriate for Mike to die in Ken's arms and Ken sounding quite distressed about it. An end to the adversity.
@wootlanter well it's a soap opera curious though most of the time fans criticize the slow story lines as seen on screen by the way mikes final scene with ken is just outstanding what depth by these chrachters.
@@alanslevin8223 he was entering old age too being in his 70s so only natural he wanted out;most people retire in their 60s. Corrie is a very grueling schedule, he wanted to enjoy his golden years as who knows how long they may be.
Please don't tell me Mike was able to just wander out of the hospital back to the Street and no one even tried to stop him! He was a danger to himself! The hospital staff knew that.
it's so sad that mike went out like that when he was such a strong character. i have lost people to dementia so i appreciate the storyline, but still sad
Ken found mike outside of the street he always got the key to the factory kept in his pocket and he what’s alma ken phone the ambulance he died in ken arms when Rita found ken mike bother in the car come and mike said the factory closed mike said where’s Deirdre mike loves his daughter Tracy why mike got missing in the hospital he gone outside the old lady found him he shouting at her mike was in the hospital he is not good what happened to mike
Does anyone know the name of the nurse from 2:45 because I recognise her from somewhere... Anyone else think she looks a bit like Sonya/Sonia Fowler from eastenders? I know it isn't her, but I still recognise her. RIP Mike Baldwin, we love and miss you still❤️
CollabInLove Danny lost a lot of business and practically ended up bankrupt so he put the factory up for sale and the Connor brother’s Paul and Liam brought it. When Paul (who was married to Carla) died in a car accident after kidnapping Leanna the factory became her’s and the Connor’s have had it ever since.
@DisgustingArsehole Well, Derek's dead, the Baldwins are gone, Ken's still in it (as expected), Tracy came back in Christmas 2010 after 3 years in prison for killing Charlie Stubbs, Elsie Tanner's son Dennis Tanner is back and marrying Rita
That was touching when Ken said it's a friend, about someone who for so long has been his enemy
Domine Wimbury i know, does make me cry that bit
Mike was once Ken's son in law.
Here after hearing the sad news that Johnny Briggs has sadly died. What a great actor he was. RIP Johnny.
My sentiments entirely.
Aww when Ken said " a friend of mine" about a man he hated for so long. 😢
Jack Williams they once called a truce during the freshco siege of 2000, when they were tied up together in a locked room.
Rory McKernan they were on and off after dat
That is because deep down Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin are old friends.

madperson876 Mike was not an original character. The only character who has been with the show since the start is Ken Barlow.

madperson876 Yes after Ken Emily is the longest serving character. She has been in the show since 1961 i think. Hope she will be back soon.
Kevin Longman Emily is such a likeable character. Friends with everyone!

Mike, a true Corrie legend.
Yes he was well said bro🙌
Didn't watch this at the time. My Nan was also in hospital with terminal cancer. I remember family telling her about this but trying not to listen. So sad to see him end up like that
It was a touching moment between Ken and Mike. Their feud had ended. Ken calling Mike "a friend" was appropriate.
NO YA DON'T!
2:28 I thought the nurse was a bit rude, considering Mike had Alzheimer’s 🙁🙁🙁

mike baldwin... wot an actor!
i remember this brillant good scene between ken barlow and mike baldwin
Funny, he can't remember his family or where he is and what he's doing; he manages to remember his arch nemesis
Not funny
Because people with dementia remember things from long ago rather than most recent. That’s why he said to Ken about the affair

Themduragass I respect you for this clip getting to you it proves your no a selfish scumbag like some of the muppets in this world
Mrfaze09 William roache is not the worst actor you jealous brat
Mike sounds distressed because deep done there freinds
+cmdfarsight Hated that they had Danny kick him out of his own home. Pissed me off.
R.I.P. Johnny Briggs and his character he played
I always wanted Mike and Deirdre to get together :( It's sad to see such a great character go like this. You'll be missed Mike Baldwin!
THE END OF A TRUE LEGAND
They left Mike with no dignity, damn shame.
they gave Johnny Briggs a chance to show his acting range
@@Goodmans93 exactly becoming ill in old age is not losing your dignity-it is life.
@@shanefolan i understand the frustration of corrie from an acting point of view you only do the same role and its very limited in what you do
@@Goodmans93 yea but blame the industry;it is such a tough industry to get work people just want the secure employment.

Was sad seeing Mike like this
Corrie should never have killed him off would of been good to have seen him comeback they should of. Let him move to Spain then comeback
Jarrod Morrison but this thbest why they could have killed him off
He wanted to go for good though. Apparently regrets it now.
@@cmdfarsight He was Axed from the show as the writers wanted the story to happen.
@@CallumFreeman1 oh. I heard the other way. Either way Mike Baldwin was great.
Brilliant scene with Ken and Mike
@kevlonk no. she's ray langston's kid
Awww
Factory's Closed
SUPER LEGEND
Best story they ever done
Why did they kill mike Baldwin off ?he was a street icon ..loved him at Baldwin s casuals with ivy &Vera. ..can someone tell me. ..
Johnny Briggs wanted to leave. He had that condition where you get depressed during the winter, he's had it for years.

wow this is really amazing emotional stuff, and mike dyin in ken's arms is really the most fitting end, after bein rivals for years.
That's no way for a Corrie legend to go- poor old Mike! :(
Haha old man Ken Barlow ..."Miiikkkeeeeee?"
have you got any clips about jamie and franki getting together please ? xx
Why did Danny call him Mike, when he's his dad?
The Anonymous Commenter he spent most of his life thinking Mike was just his uncle, would probably be weird to call him dad after so many years.
Oh I see. This storyline is a bit before my time, I'm too young to remember it lol
Poor old Mike! :(
This aired 7 April 2006

Kizzy Bird she's teagen lomax from hollyoaks I think
She was definitely Lindsay in Teachers
Katie Hall. She was in an episode of Shameless as a lechourous teacher who tries to seduce Kev at an adult learning class.
3:06 Fawlty Towers moment!

Call me weird, but, I've always fancied Mike Baldwin...Jamie ain't so bad either...
those should've been his last words, 'your finished Barlow.'
dieing in the arms in your enemy mike couldnt of gone better
Wait...Tracy is Mike Baldwin's kid?
