honestly the dabi reveal was perfect and is proof that even if a reveal isn't "shocking" to us, what is important is that it is impactful to the characters, the story, and the progression from there on out. absolute greatness
But the foundation was layed out like it was supposed to be shocker and huge surprise...... lol, but to the average viewer with the average brain, can obviously make a connection of a mysterious, prominent bad guy that has strong fire abilities, be related to only 2 important characters that have strong fire abilities.... lol
@@godspeedgideon9178 it wasn't layed out to be a shocker or surprise though. if it was, the episode would've ended on a cliffhanger for when dabi says his name
@@goosygrower419 Why does a cliffhanger need to be a pre-requisite for a surprise?!? *Surprise* - an unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing. This literally describes how the creator portrayed Dabi's reveal... lol. It's obvious, he intended it to be a surprise but the anime production probably focuses on the impact, which was smart bc they probably assumed like most of us... its obvious so let's make the presentation "hit" more than anything lol.
@@godspeedgideon9178 it was pretty obvious to everyone reading that dabi was toya. The reveal wasn't surprising, just how he did it and what it meant to hero society afterwards is what made it great.
Yes. Shigaraki only did physical damage, but Dabi did emotional damage that really would really hurt the public. Buildings can be restored (It will take while it can be fixed) but, the trust...
While I can't say that I've ever heard anyone ever underrate/say negative things about BJ, the more pressing issue is why choose to capitalize "an" of all things?
I wouldn’t mind getting a spin-off manga or anime where each episode is showing stuff the characters did before joining the leauge of villains or like joining UA or becoming a hero. So like one episode would be just Dabi, another could be like gang orca’s backstory. Honestly there could be a lot you could do with a spin-off series like this.
It’s not that Dabi/Toya can’t control his power it’s that his body can’t take the heat, he has his fathers quirk but his mother affinity for cold temperatures. So basically his body would be better suited to the ice quirk.
in a volume extra page Horikoshi laid out that it's not that he has no fire resistance, but the weakness to fire from the ice resist caused it to scale back enough that he's not immune to his own fire. So it's like he's 75% fire resistant instead of 100% like shouto and endeavor are (at least to their own flames)
Endeavour even att his shittiest always felt guilty about Toyas death and now he found out that he is alive and turned into a serial killer because of his less than steller parenting is probably a mind fuck that would break you completley.
I believe that because if the freeze quirk of Toya's mother, which is weak to fire, Toya also got this weakness. That, combined with his strong flames makes it so that he burns himself when using his quirk too much.
I keep coming back to this episode for todorokis va's amazing work omg edit: 6 months later I realize I forgot to specify I meant shoto all of them were amazing though
The Voice acting was superb and for a twist that many saw coming due to spoilers or just playing Sherlock, it was done masterfully and to me it wasn’t the twist but the repercussions of such actions. Heroes can damage their own while saving others
When the Dabi reveal was made in the manga the Joker movie had come out somewhat recently so everyone was comparing the sequence of panels where Dabi making his way down Gigantomachia's back to the scene where the Joker was doing his dance down some steps.
Fun fact: Two years ago when MHA manga chapter-290 "Dabi's Dance" came out, manga fans went crazy like hell yo! "Dabi's Dance" even out-trended 2020 US Presidential Election on Twitter and Internet in general back then and this just proves how damn popular Dabi or "Dabi's Dance" was and still is. It's still considered one of the greatest moments/revelations in the MHA series. We manga fans always knew Dabi is Touya Todoroki and seeing this get revealed made us manga fans feel relieved and validated. Back then everyone was like - "Fuck Donald Trump and Joe Biden! Dabi for the 2020 President, bitches!" We'll get Dabi's backstory within the next few episodes of season 6. And afterwards, what happened to him after that forest fire incident or how he survived will be revealed in season 7. I'll just say... Dabi's whole backstory is full of nothing but sadness and depression.
"The past won't go away. You reap what you sow. Let's fall together, Enji Todoroki-- Come dance with me in hell, won't you, Father?!" so fucking good man
There are practically no words that can be said about this episode. Which is to say I still intend to do an analysis regardless. Let’s get into it. Let’s start with Shigaraki. We have NO idea who is in control. Shigaraki defies AFO, but AFO is controlling some of the quirks to minimize the pain so he doesn’t fall apart. It’s…beyond confusing. It’s why many manga readers call him AFS. (All For Shigaraki) It’s not at all easy to sort out. But it’s meant to be that way. We saw Shigaraki and AFO’s vestige last episode. It’s not one or the other, it’s them morphed into one. They CAN override each other but it’s both ways not one way like you’d assume. Deku and Bakugo are SERIOUSLY hurt. As hurt as I’d say they are, I’d still say Deku is more injured. I pointed out the places Bakugo was hit don’t look as vital as they seem. His shoulder, appendix area, and leg. He CAN bleed out and him thrashing around like an idiot is not at ALL smart but Bakugo gotta Bakugo. Deku shouldn’t be able to MOVE with how blown up his arms are. While his bone damage SHOULD be lesser per punch now that he maintains 45%, he still let loose MANY punches so it should be PRETTY CLOSE to the arm dysfunction level. We got Uraraka and Toga. I thought the fight was fun. Now it’s not quite clear what Uraraka did, but I think she spread her float to things she had already touched to things she hadn’t like Shigaraki does with Decay. (And I can’t even BEGIN to praise just how big it is Uraraka’s quirk evolves the same way as another 5-finger touch quirk) Throw it in with other gravity rules she breaks and it’s REALLY up there in overall quirk levels. (Top 3 if you ask me with ties, and top 5 without them) I don’t necessarily understand what Uraraka’s GOAL was with the move but it makes the most sense to seriously limit Toga’s movement which is the biggest problem for people. She HAD touched Toga prior, but it also demonstrates she was deciding if she wanted to use quirk energy on the fight instead of saving people. (So she can CHOOSE when it effects as well now so that’s ALSO huge.) There is the morality fight of Toga’s Renfield’s syndrome and Uraraka being a HSP. (Hyper-sensitive person. People with bloated emotions. They feel emotions much stronger than others. It’s like being an empath but without the sensing in others.) Uraraka actually taking the time to answer Toga’s questions and demanding she take responsibility for her feelings and choices is a genuine answer. Uraraka has done the same with her evolution of care for Deku. And Toga sees it as a rejection of her side letting her emotions go wild in contrast. Toga’s deepest anchors are more familial rather than romantic. And her endless pursuit of it the way she does will never get anywhere. And what she seeks isn’t what she demands. It’s…weird but we DEFINITELY aren’t meant to understand it. Next we got the Dabi reveal. This…was excellent. We ALL could’ve figured who Dabi was QUITE easily. But it’s HOW he makes his move that just knocks it out of the park. It’s not the surprise of who he is, it is what changes so thoroughly for the understanding of the public, AND the Todoroki’s. I’ve never seen Endeavor happier showing Toya…Touya (take your pick.) how to use fire. The reveal of the family past, the reveal of what Hawks did to Twice and Best Jeanist, the reveal he quite literally survived from presumed ashes. And the curious state of his hair. (It is a continuity fix from the anime, but to call THAT much attention to it has peaked my interest in other reasons. Like the 2nd and 3rd OFA holders not being designed for their silhouettes in the vestige world turning into a COMPLETELY different reason.) 2,000°C is over 3,600°F as a KID which is ALREADY over halfway to Endeavor’s hottest fire in Season 4 which is around 5,000°F with atmosphere reentry topped with his 2,000° fires as a low ball. Imagine him NOW. (I just ballpark to double Endeavor’s greatest fire to 10,000°F to make it simple for myself.) It’s all so dang much. And I LOVE the way it was animated. This is EVERYTHING to the hero world. Best Jeanist is BACK. Somehow. It’s the biggest wrench in Dabi’s reveal. Now Endeavor isn’t the only one with damaged lungs fighting. Good for him. And he’s gunning for capturing MACHIA. And THAT has to be the strongest fiber EVER to go for that move. What a great episode. It’s a LOT to process, but things need to sink in more. What breaks and what stays fixed is ALL on the line here.
AFO: No! Tomura, you must retreat! Tomura: I didn't hear no bell Little side note, in the manga, Toga never explains the big thing about Jin. Which is why Ochako is so confused. Because she's not exactly sure why she's talking to her. But she instantly regrets shutting her down once she sees that she was crying. And it pushes her to question why Toga was upset. Which is why the anime having Toga mention her reason for being upset last episode kinda takes away from Ochako's confusion and trying to understand Toga. Toga does love Ochako the same way she loves Stain and Izuku. So essentially, one of her crushes didn't get what she was trying to convey. Which has to suck. When this reveal happened in the manga, it actually out trended the literal US election. Dabi is built different. Also, it's really funny how Shigaraki gave that speech a few episodes ago about how heroes will destroy their families and Endeavor completely ignored him. Only for one of the biggest examples of him being selfish and destroying his own family to appear. Endeavor is trying to improve, yes. But that doesn't mean his past actions just go away. He added fuel to that poor boy's flames and then tossed him aside once he realized he wasn't the perfect child he wanted to create. And now, Touya will reduce everything to ash. Him and Skeptic pulled through with the tag team of the century.
