    My opinion which is not professional but she is not over pushing in every performance. Emotion can play a powerful role in vocal qualities. She’s a singer who connects fully to what she is singing. The only person that truly knows if she is pushing is Demi herself. Look at other videos not just this one and then it may change your mind on her technique

    I understand why vocal coaches believe people shouldn’t belt out big notes, but in reality that is how so many singers have fun with things and show emotion. When she tried to show the difference between Demi’s method and her own, her version didn’t sound bad really, but it didn’t have the proper emotion. She sounded like she was doing a musical play version. That’s not the type of music Demi sings. there’s different ways your voice can change when singing to match the occasion. That wasn’t it. That’s why people who think like that tend to sound so bland when they sing, because while they’d sound amazing doing something like “somewhere over the rainbow”, they fall short and miss the mark on songs you hear on the radio.

    I have to disagree with the Stone Cold part.There’s a reason Stone Cold is hard to sing, even though the technique you showed might be better technically, it takes the emotion away.Demi’s voice and her emotions intersect and of that means pushing, then so be it.

    Tbf this compilation really wasn't the best showcase of Demi's voice. Her voice has definitely changed over time, whether it be due to technique or other factors. For a lot of her career Demi was also using quite hard drugs, so I'm not sure if that had affected her voice in any significant way. Thankfully after her near overdose she's now sober again. I'd recommend checking out a fanmade version instead of PopCrush's as 2017-2018 was one of the best years vocally for her and this video didn't show that x

    Amazing analysis very informative!!! A lot of people are talking about how you should have picked a better video to show her technique but that would disregard the point of you analyzing the good and the bad if there is only good technique on display. If the videos were completely solid examples of singing such as Dimash or Beyoncé then it would be difficult to give any feedback on fundamentally healthy technique. Also some people talk about emotion and preference yet demonstrating FULL control over the entirety of ANY instrument which includes voice is extremely difficult and pretty rare so as much as I think people like to believe celebrities always choose to do things stylistically such as push or strain or tighten, they should know that most of the time it’s truly just healthy habits and imperfect technique.
    P.S. style is usually something that branches off after and from good technique and control

      Dipping into B4 is NOT on pitch just because she corrected to an in tune C afterwards that's why Freya mentioned intonation. Also someone can be both strained and resonant. The guitarist helped her by shying away from playing the IV until she started correcting and it clearly was a mistake and NOT stylistic because she goes to the B after the C later. The C was to build tension and the B was to resolve but also delay the cadence so if you start with B and then go to C it loses that build up a little when you get back down to B and try and go for the cadence. And Freya's tonal center was probably thrown off because of the intonation because it wasn't supposed to be there in the chord so the C sounded off even though it was technically correct given the accompaniment corrected to the IV. I like Demi but I'm not gonna delude myself into thinking she doesn't make mistakes. Also in the original she's supposed to stay on the B and move chromatically to the Cadence of A to G according to the music video. Of course in live performance you can change it but it must be planned and it did not sound planned.

    There's a big difference in the style of singing pop music vs classic. I believe this vocal coach is very classically trained. Nothing wrong with that. However, when you are a pop/rock/r&b/mainstream whatever singer, you have to bend and break some rules to get across the emotion you're trying to portray. No one wants to hear these emotional ass songs Demi sings from someone with a classical or "healthy" technique. They want the nitty gritty. At the end of the day, these stars are here to share their talents, and profit off of it. Not hold back and fit into a box. That's the beauty and vulnerability of this style of music.
    Anyone can sing the way they want. It is great to protect your voice, but every now and then, you just gotta let go and sing your heart out. (it sounds better too)

    Another reason why it wasnt a great reaction is because quite a few of the "push to the limit" clips are from shows where the focus is more on the presentation, or she has been touring. Anyones voice gets a little off while touring
    P.s. your also not doing a good job imitating her

    I love singing coaches that are physiologists in their spare time. When you sing the line Demi does it sounds zzzzz.....thats why most vocal coaches aren't great artists. Demi exudes feeling and heart...that lack feeling you demonstrate doesn't pull in the listener...Demi does, over and over.
    Ummm...fast forward to her most recent live performances...she is stronger and better than ever.
    She "goes to the edge" in her a sleep now. She does it effortlessly. so you are wrong.....her voice is actually stronger.
    Imagine most vocal teachers in the 80s didnt like Steve Perry? The title of the channel should be "How to preserve your voice so the song nobody wants to hear you sing, sounds the same the 100th time you sing it as it did the first time."
    .

      Emotion is not a technique. Emotion dousnt save the voice. Singing and performing are two separate things that go hand in hand. And performing is emotion based that's where you connect with your audience not the singing wich is technical based. Without one neither one can work. Also technique dousnt change just because the genre does. I can sing nearly every genre yet my technique never changes ever I may alter the way say some words or my tone but never my instrument that never changes.

      @@rosiegiesler4705 I agree emotions is not a technique. But would you rather have someone who has great technique but can’t connect to the audience? No you would not. You would much rather have emotion. I am a singer and I have had plenty of vocal coaches who have told me your emotions overpower your technique because who honestly cares about her technique ? They would much rather connect to her emotions. That is what makes a singer good at what they do

    • @rosiegiesler4705
      @rosiegiesler4705 3 года назад

      @@troyhundley69 no of course not watching someone on stage with no emotion or ability to perform is boring. But what I mean is they both work hand in hand and to have a good performance you have to have good technique for sustainability for any type of singer. Because with no technical and an ok natural voice your voice will only last you so long and you know what is as bad as ono emotional intensity watching a person who dousnt know how to use their voice stand on stage and shreak and scream as if that makes them sound better ( brutal honestly watching bad singers is not fun and as much as I would be polite and praise them I would still be cringing inside) . You cant have one without the other to create a good performance. And a really excellent performer the legends have both and that little seasoning to make it sparkle.

    • @rosiegiesler4705
      @rosiegiesler4705 3 года назад

      Also technique isnt about other people it's not about what they can see or hear it's about what lasts. They are both as important as each other you wouldnt watch a ballet dancer at the royal ballet dance and with no technique because it would look shit they could have emotion yest but it would look shit if I was just leaping in the air.

    Demi has improved a lot now, she is not that pushy anymore and her mix is headier which gave her more ease, you just have to watch more recent performances.
    And you should take a look at SoHyang in the next reaction, "Everyone" ( vimeo.com/249195615 ) would be a very good choice, is really a masterpiece and vocal coachs don't react to it that much, you'll be completely amazed, i give you my word.

    Sorry, but a technically perfect performance is just boring. The video you reacted to is a compilation of every song's climax. Listening to it for 6 or 7 minutes straight may (or may not) be painful to the ears, but that's just because that's the part where the emotion gets to you. Demi did pop rock in their early years and singing how you suggested is not how to sing rock music. You also mentioned about their breathiness, but breathiness may be a stylistic choice that makes the performance more emotional and raw. Again, if every performance is technically perfect, it is boring.

    Thanks

  • @deahsarnosse4446
    @deahsarnosse4446 5 лет назад

    I cant...firstly your some parts mix wasnt a mix, most of it was just head voice. Ypu did have some good points but there was more bad, im noooo professional but i dont need to be to know when someone is talking $#*$. Yes demi adds alot of weight to her voice sometimes even though her natural voice in my OPINION is more of an equal mixture between weighty and light hence its power. And just so you know, in most of those videos demi placed her voice elsewhere in comparison to your nasal placement. Also it would be less annoying of some you vocal coaches did some deep research and analysis of the singers before you come on here and blab off the top the little that you know and it would also be nice if you(and by you i mean other vocal coaches) were more open to the fact that there are other techniques apart from the ones that you use or know of. Yes some techniques tires the voice alot faster than some but they wont "KILL" your voice. Just so you know i agree with your point regarding preserving the voice which i assume meant keeping the voice from tiring so quickly especially when you have to perform multiple times back to back and im not hating on you or anything and leave these singers alone, its not thatvthey dont know how to sing "properly" that is with " "healthy" technique, most are more concerned with expression and connection to their audience, some of you people should try it sometime (im guilty of being a technique geek too). Im not saying to go blow out youre voice, just divery your concerns a little from technique and connect more with your true feelings and their link with the music, youd be surprised, why do you think demi and alot of other singers are so reputable in the music industry.👋

      2) right closure
      3) resonance
      4) Open throat
      5) No pressure on the voice
