Such a great guy - working with him was one of my favourite sessions

Everything happened as it had to happen.
I mean, Gordon Raphael did a very good job on Is This It, but I highly doubt he would have produced Up The Bracket well. Mick Jones hit the nail on the head and managed to help The Libertines define their sound for good. From what I have been able to notice in all the sources I have obtained, The Libertines took a long time to find their sound, they had not defined their concept since the late 90s and I think they needed the guitarist from The Clash to do it. Mick Jones simply had to be the producer of Up The Bracket and he delivered an excellent job.
Finally, I would like to add a point of view that seems curious to me: The Libertines would not have existed without The Strokes, but I think that The Libertines' proposal ended up being more honest and pure.
For me, both bands are complementary and I think they were the best of the 2000s garage rock revival scene.

There are countless versions/variations of the libs progression on tape. Definitely a roughness but thats the charm

Love Gordon but glad he never produced the Libs, would have made them come across more like a strokes wannabe band imo. I adore the ramshackle sound of up the bracket but I think Bernard Butler did a great job with the tracks he did with them too

To be honest there's just no comparison between the libertines and the strokes. The libertines were like a drug addled meteor burning up in the earth's atmosphere at a 1000mph while the strokes was like a self conscious bedford van rattling down the road at milk float speed
    No comparison.

They both sucked donkey balls, there's a comparison right there.
