I’m half White/half Asian (Portuguese/Filipino)…. I’m waaaay more attracted to Asian guys now, but in my teens and twenties I was only attracted to/dated white guys. I distinctly remember that “Abercrombie and Fitch” models were the standard of beauty growing up so I assumed that’s what I was “supposed” to be attracted to. So glad I grew up lol 😂
As a non-white and non-Asian guy I applaud you all for tackling the top because we “other races” see it and talk about it. And we attribute it to the effects of the comercial marketing of white supremacy concepts… valuing the Eurocentric standard over your own culture. They hit the nail on the head at the beginning of the video when they said one is lowering their standards for white men.
Steven was so close to naming a key concept surrounding all of this: white supremacy [he said superiority]. I give props to them for candidly unraveling their inner motivations and external influences, for owning their role in the social construction of 'potato queen' and that there are exceptions naturally, as opposed to defensively denying embodiment. Even if one's personality/emotional compatibility has more weight than physical/sexual attraction, there can be no denying that one's self-proclaimed inclination towards a specific ethnic/racial group is predominantly driven by phenotypic expressions. Because if I recall in the video, Steven states that having grown within a more westernized environment, among other possible factors, has likely influenced his inclination to white guys (whether that be European/American/etc.). So what if hypothetically you found another guy of the same Asian race with the same set of circumstances (grew up equally westernized), then what else could it be that would still have a white guy stand out as more of a contender? What I didn't hear from this conversation (for now at least until others speak about it) is the role of white desirability and seeking how white privilege can be advantageously leveraged from a marginalized person's POV through romantic partnership with a white guy.
Amen! And you've articulated your thoughts very well. I would have said almost the same thing. There are many westernised gaysians in the world (always have been), so the argument about being attracted to a Caucasian's way of thinking or being is moot.
@@Sean.Lim.exactly or not even mentioning attraction to people of the African Diaspora or indigenous peoples who are seen as less valuable due to capitalism and there is truth to cultural references in China of using homosexual relationships as means for poorer men to gain financial independence and status through marriage but there are rich men of every nationality and if the focus is only on wealth then the relationship will be superficial. I think that it’s great that they discussed this on camera. But the truth wasn’t fully spoken all of what is being labeled a Western country has other people besides white people living there for example Sean said he lived in Australia the indigenous peoples there are quite dark and also black, Hispanic and other ethnic groups live there. A lot of what wasn’t said was skipped over quickly as not wanting to be too deep by the gentleman in the middle as white superiority which is actually called white supremacy. There is mentioned about Europeans being reserved. That’s also a tactic of policing behavior that is being celebrated as a standard of coolness, which it can be appreciated but being expressive is also okay. Often I have heard westerners say that other cultures are childlike or unsophisticated and that’s because they are judging through their limited cultural lens and saying you must be this way for their approval which is also a tool regulating behavior and others to conform/control. There are definitely cultural beauty standards that are to be acknowledged and respected ,but then there are actually the stereotypes that Asian people are applying to other cultures and ethnic groups due to propaganda and proximity to whiteness and the privilege or false status that it brings amongst peers. I'm black and I was once a total potato queen, until I traveled around the world (13 countries). I believe that someones social networking, media imaging, along with access, has a lot to do with biases, in making choices. Most white gay men, are not aware of their white privileges and yet others depend on it. I've seen a lot and so many white men believe, that all men of color, will find them more desirable. This may be true only if that person was already biased in favor of them and also their lack of social networking and education. My first boy friend was white but my first love, was a South Korean Solder, 40 years ago. I was serving in the military and we worked on the same American base in South Korea. My experiences were odd, I knew about white gay racism and then I found about Asian gay racism, which was all so strange and hurtful (being called animal names in South Korea and Japan). However it never stopped me from loving them and yet it didn't make it any easier either.
That's very interesting as well as being quite intriguing... May I ask you if you could tell more about the love story with this South Korean soldier ?...
For a European, and especially for a Frenchman, it is very amusing to hear that the English are "polite" or "shy". The violent and vulgar behavior of English football fans is a more common reality for Europeans, something very far from the image of the "gentleman".
I just found this podcast and it was a blast!! I guess that makes me a Potato King.... Although I have been known to be a Kimchi King sparingly ... So if you're vers-top does that still make you a queen... I always though queen applied to bottoms... 🤷🏼♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've never heard of it as a compliment. There's not a gay bar called The Rice Queen. But there used to be a club in London called the Long Yang Club for Asians and their admirers. Aka Chopsticks and Walking Sticks. True story.
Steven - the actor from “Growing Up” who acted as Andrew Seow’s younger brother. Wow, he has aged a lot, I almost can’t recognise him! I also, didn’t know he is such a SPG. Anyway, each his cup of tea…there is no right or wrong about it - be it with gays or straights. Anyway, it is quite entertaining listening to these gay nonsense! :)
I'm Jewish bisexual, I love white guys, Latino/South American, Arab/Middle eastern, South Asian/East Indian, Central Asian guys and half Asian, half white mixed guys! I'm NOT into East-Asian guys!
after all of these videos… is there a certain consensus that we are gathering from here? what do we do with the information? often times, we eat so much into the idea of being Open to discussion but in the end, yet it remains to be simply conflated confusion. we have the allies coming along and listening to our “candour” but what are really DOING with being “informed” just with us, within ourselves? it boils down to being Kind within our community ultimately. and unfortunately, it is pretty bleak with that alone. let’s not denounce that. what more must we do other than to just entertain the allies on how to “see” us when we are quick to jump on Adjectives on how we run this Show and also to describe characters or character sentiments without addressing the definite root cause and obvious dysfunction of it all - that we do not necessarily know how to even See Ourselves for what we are WITHIN our very own community. Let’s look within. or we shall instead look without.
I'm kinda like Sean, I tend to be drawn to people with darker complexions... But, bloodboots from Brothers Sun... ❤ much better than the main protagonists!
I've always been attracted to white guys but I end up with an Asian instead of white guys. I'm attacked to guys that are brown skin. And some white guys that can tan
But, why does LGBT life in Asia still seem discriminatory and disrespectful towards people? For example, with introverts, ugly people, effeminate men, quiet people, and even with crossdressers (men wearing women's clothes and vice versa). You can still see in friendship only macho, handsome and muscular (gay) men. Drag Queens even have difficulty finding partners??? Tell me why??
For me , I see white guys and Korean guys are good looking , good to look at but they not sexual at all. They almost like when I look at beautiful women and nothing sexual about it. In fact ,I am sexually attracted to dark-tan brown skin ,dark-hair with manly face men.
This was a fun video to watch and this is my first hearing the term “Potato Queen.” To be honest I feel “potato” is the wrong vegetable to use to describe white men because the potatoes origin is from South America, as the origin of rice is from Asia. I wonder if another fruit or vegetable should be used I first thought “Apple Queen” but the apple is from Central Asia so maybe “Cabbage Queen” could work 🤣🤣🤣.
What is the meaning of Latino ethnicity? Ethnicity definition Hispanic or Latino: A person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.
I'm glad it was, at least, mentioned that all Latinos are not White. Next, if the subject has not been broached on this channel (and I've never seen a formal discussion on any social media platform), I'm interested in Asian gay men and their preferences when it comes to dating Black men, especially since Asian gay men are also a part of the groups some White gay man avoid. Quite honestly, I'm not expecting a positive response from Asian gay men on this preference; yet, I remain hopeful.
I noted that statement as well. This focus on "race" seems typically American or British. I believe that most Europeans do not have this concern, and they would answer that the Latinos are "white" if asked. As "races" do not exist, everything that is said about it is always very debatable, very subjective.
This conversation could have gotten so much deeper if you guys discussed in more broader terms and not just in the white/Asian binary, but I guess Singapore is not that diverse in terms of ethnicity???? Please advise.
Steven Lim was such a lovely twink in the 90's and a TV celebrity. I met him a few times in social cicrcles and as a white man in Singapore, I would have given the earth to sleep with him just one time lol . His smile in particular was adorable;
I think the very point of this video was seeing how people were introspective enough to be able to analyze their attractions. There is a source to our attractions. We just have to take the time to deconstruct the societal layers built around what we have internalized.
@@jp-gemini my dad likes chubby ladies and my uncle likes skinny ladies. Brothers raised in same house the same way. I am sure there are reasons why we like what we like but people will never know exactly why they like what they like. i think we all have to let ourselves be ok with what we are attracted to.
@@CallumSawatzky The analogy that you used presents a false equivalency. Attractions to various body shapes is very different from the range of body shapes and features present within an ethnic group. And even in your example, two people living within the same household still have significant experiences out in the world that can shape their attractions.
(East) Asian only into Asians (same for same from an Asian POV) I use East- in parentheses, because I don't usually observe Southeast Asians using the term or rarely referring to them.
@@neale3871 not necessarily; there’s a sticky rice scene in San Francisco 💁🏻💁🏻💁🏻 what I also observe is that the proportion of gay white-Asian couples lean toward older (younger Gen X and up and this can be one or both partners) and/or w/ the Asian partner usually being first generation/not American/westernized. To me, the this suggests two things, respectively: 1) as younger generations increasingly become more aware of colonialist histories and effects of those power dynamics as well as get exposed to the ethos of diversity, equity, and inclusion (still have a long way to go) much earlier, they’ll feel less pressure to associate with those identities (whiteness) or not find them as the most desirable as much as previous generations have, and that 2) interracial desirability, up to now, is still not immune to the temptations of racial fetishism as it relates to eroticizing and reducing another cultural group for the enjoyment of the westerner (and any cries of “it’s just what I like” or “im just appreciating another culture” are up to scrutiny; unless this person actually contributes to the larger cultural community that their partner is from in tangible/impactful ways, I don’t buy this facade of appreciation).
@@DarylMangosing True, not always, but it's not a term used in Asia (where I live) and why should it be, with 98% Asians. The rest of your message is TLDR for me including only westerner pleasure BS as sex isn't only derived for one partner. Maybe fancy SF talk I dunno.

As a Chinese, I have always been attracted to whites because they are exotic : blond hair, blue or green eyes, hairy . I prefer hunky & well hung but not keen on skinny or too fat . However, het turned off by bad breath but turned on by ' beefy' feromones, alochol but not nicotine. Absolutely turned off by pancies/ queeny. Opposites attract. In Thailand we white guys are very desired!!! works for me! I have always liked asian guys, latin guys and black guys in the US. I like small, smooth guys and asians are usually small and smooth!
Mixed race in gay relationships is best. I hate seeing two asian guys or two white guys together! We are both men, it's so nice to have the difference of race , culture and body type!

plus the thick Singaporean accent, I barely understood him
I’ve never heard an Asian man be considered “brown”. This was a very interesting video.
I'm a Rice Queen. East Asian men are gorgeous! 🇺🇸🏳️🌈🤝🇸🇬🏳️🌈
I am visiting Thailand too
46 Australian. Living Bangkok. I want the middle one, Steven.
Steven Lim was such a lovely twink in the 90's and a TV celebrity. I met him a few times in social cicrcles and as a white man in Singapore, I would have given the earth to sleep with him just one time lol . His smile in particular was adorable;

it is impossible to really know why you are into a certain type of guy, it is just what you like
I think the very point of this video was seeing how people were introspective enough to be able to analyze their attractions. There is a source to our attractions. We just have to take the time to deconstruct the societal layers built around what we have internalized.
@@jp-gemini 💯
@@jp-gemini my dad likes chubby ladies and my uncle likes skinny ladies. Brothers raised in same house the same way. I am sure there are reasons why we like what we like but people will never know exactly why they like what they like. i think we all have to let ourselves be ok with what we are attracted to.
@@CallumSawatzky The analogy that you used presents a false equivalency. Attractions to various body shapes is very different from the range of body shapes and features present within an ethnic group. And even in your example, two people living within the same household still have significant experiences out in the world that can shape their attractions.
@@jp-geminiHow is it different though?
Sticky Rice means ...?
(East) Asian only into Asians (same for same from an Asian POV)
I use East- in parentheses, because I don't usually observe Southeast Asians using the term or rarely referring to them.
Rice 4 Rice usually where there are few Asians.
@@neale3871lol I could care less if i got my point across to you or taught you something; others can read what I have to say and react accordingly💁🏻 if someone else learned something, then yay 👏🏼 sorry if I have my doctorate and that it’s coming out here lol 🎓
I dont date teenagers , preferring the Daddy types. My first & only boyfriend was an Austrian, 4 years older. My first lover was an English Captain , 19 years older. First husband was a Dutch psychologist, 23 years older. My current husband is 2 years older. I sm now 73, been there, done that but still enjoying life in Holland, vacation often in Thailand. We are madly in love . Giod luck to all of you gays out there !
Latinos can be passionate, but there are passionate men of all races! The most passionate lover I've had is Burmese! Cambodians and Laos boys are passionate too!
the asian guy. far right. the interviewer is beautiful
but complaning that the are discriminated on grindr by whites
I also like the temperament of asian men!
Genuinely horrible take.
