After the end of the Nazi regime and the unconditional surrender in May 1945, almost all bigger cities in Germany were destroyed. This film contains color footage of Berlin and Potsdam shortly later: aerial views of the completely destroyed capital, houses, where only the facades are left, rubble women who carry away the debris and start to rebuild even before their husbands are returned home, etc.
Among others: Berlin Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate, Pariser Platz, Unter den Linden boulevard, Berliner Dom, Reich Chancellery, Alexanderplatz, the Reich Chancellery and the Fuehrerbunker, the Sports Palace, the Kurfürstendamm, Olympic Stadium, Berlin Victory Column, and many others.

      Hi Sir.
Last year I visited Germany (Berlin, Hamburg, Aachen, Cologne, Dresden, Frankfurt, Munich and Bremen.
I was amazed to see a developed and strong country even if it has its own problems.
May Germany know no more wars!

I am saddened by the realization that we humans can be so cruel to each other. Yet, God made us resilient! We are at this time in another "WW" of sorts - COVID-19 ... again we will rebound.
As another who grew up hearing bombers in this time [but not suffering the bombings], I have a very strong desire to see Germany today in person.

@@CharlesWinegardnerim2nd That's ridiculous. To allow things such as genocide and wars to take place throughout history is malevolent. As Epicurus said, “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

And what does it mean how broken they are? They answered for the desire to dominate, spread and multiply at the expense of others, that is, to parasitize. For their atrocities, they received and believe me, thanks to Stalin, that Germany now exists, the former allies of the USSR really wanted to dismember it, Stalin did not allow it, then he could afford it. So who is more human? But no, now communism is equated with fascism, they have lived up to it! Shame!

Warsaw has 85% of the city leveled on purpose, building by building, simply because the uprising pissed him off. I can feel compassion for the people of Warsaw. Not so Berlin. They were indifferent watching their neighbors forced to leave when they still could or be deported "to the east" when it was too late. Well I wouldn't say the Soviets helped Germany so much as they occupied the Eastern part of it. Look at pictures of East Germany before Germany reunited and you will see that East Germany was well behind West Germany in economic health. That West Germany was able to reunify with the east in in a relatively short time bring that part of the country up to the Western part only goes to my point of how much has been accomplished in Germany. Moreover, investment in a country is not aid.

Y'know, "Joe"; I had seen pictures from England, dating from as recently as the SEVENTIES, where the British were still unable to muster the necessary funds to eliminate their war ruins. Places such as Birmingham, Leeds, Coventry, London neighborhoods, perhaps even Edenborough. In the life stories of some rock 'n' roll musicians, they describe playing games amongst the ruins as kids. Some of these ruins were even used as locations shots, for the movie, "Nineteen-Eighty-Four" starring Richard Burton and John Hurt.

Nope. They felt shamed and felt humiliation at their defeat. Truth is most of them hated the war and just wanted a normal life. Still to this day some German kids in schools despise what the Nazis did and loathe this burden which they feel. When my Prime minister came on TV (Cameron) declared they were starting their bombing campaign in the Middle East which made me want to cry knowing full well there is absolutely nothing I can do to stop this. Innocent families were being bombed by drones and I feel ashamed especially as I see American and British pilots flying their weapons from the safety of a cubical whilst a family wedding is blown to a million pieces ruining the lives of innocent middle eastern families that never did anything to anyone I know of EVER!
