    • @AnilHS71
      @AnilHS71 3 года назад

It makes your daily life a lot easier, IF you are living in India even for short durations. For example, it is so much easier to obtain a SIM card with AADHAR because every little shop owner understands and accepts. Basically whenever/wherever your identity need to be verified, you are better off simply showing your aadhar than pp or oci.

May be, it is a good time to learn the meaning of word 'lies'.
Please use such words with a lot of negative connotations VERY VERY carefully. You should use them because you really want to use them, not because of wrong usage.

NRI is a general term under FEMA, but more specific by IT Act and both do not define NRI CATAGORIES IN SAME WAY.
OCI though a TOTALLY NON INDIAN RESIDENT OR NON INDIAN CITIZEN are given benefits of NRI In many subjects especially in investments in INDIA especially in direct finance involvement, though there are restrictions in property investments etc
So an OCI is primarily a "NON" RESIDENT IN INDIA. Merely being NRI will not GIVE one OCI Status.

PIO, OCI... if planning to stay off and on in India with financial activities, just get them.
To open bank account, they will say it is not mandatory, but banks will be reluctant to register your account. Pan Card is there to track any money movement beyond 50k within bank. Nothing to fear, but if shady activities are suspected, the money will be tracked via pan card.
Everyone need adhar and pan. Also your phone number will link with adhar... always keep this in mind... You can change it later.

Just repeating my query asked below. I am NRI turned to OCI over the years. I have two queries (1) How to update PAN card with OCI status. I tried but nsdl it's not allowing me to change nationality (2) My Aadhaar and PAN are linked in the IT website but its is giving an error as my address in a foreign country have changed. And I am unable to update the PAN address since it Aadhar doesn't allow to change my address online from abroad. Catch 22. I don't know if our guys make process intensionally complicated.

Recently went to get Adhar card , place where I went had no way to process Adhar for OCI and wanted me to stay for 180 days, which I could not

Aadhar card is not mandatory for an OCI, so need not worry… but we have mixed responses in our clientele and some OCI’s have been allotted Aadhar.

The adhar office in Hyderabad refused my adhar application saying oci card holders don't need adhar card, even though I was staying there for more than a year.

Recently I and My wife went to India. I live in US for the past 25 Years. We try to apply the Adhar card. They said we have to stay in India for 6 Months. This is stupid. We born in India, we did our education in India. Recently we become US citizens. Because of this they asked us to stay in India for 6 Months. Who will stay leaving jobs in US. This rule is good for the people born outside India. Not the people who born in India and spent almost 25 Years in India, having properties in India. I was so upset with this rule. This is the problem with rules in India

A small technical correction - an Indian can't have OCI or PIO card, but a foreign national with Indian origin can.
In other words, a person holding OCI or PIO card has to have foreign citizenship first, before he decides to apply for OCI status.

PAN no is required for all residents/non residents, through which you are able to do financial transactions, eg. selling a house, cash withdrawal more than the ceiling limit, filing of IT return, form 26AS TDS done by 3rd party on your receipts , claim for IT refund if TDS is more than your taxes due etc.. aadhar card helps in getting for example a phone SIM card etc..

I am an NRI (living in USA). I visit India very infrequently. What is advantage of having Aadhar card? Will Aadhar card be necessary to sell any inherited property in India? I do have PAN card and OCI status.

Not sure. While Pan Card can be applied and mailed to foreign countries Adhar may have to be applied from India. Will have to do some research.
