Red Deer is a nice quiet city, I have 2 rental condos in the downtown area. Lots of nice trails, a bird sanctuary. I purchased on the intention of retiring in Red Deer. There is a housing shortage many people are staying in motels/hotels. Parking is free just a few blocks from the core. I have never had to pay for parking. People are friendly compared to Calgary. Easy to get around only 20 min drive from one end to the other.

In addition, getting a daycare/ Dayhome in Red Deer can be challenging as they are limited.You may need to drive for about 10 minutes. For your friend looking to accommodation,she can consider gasoline alley which is 10 minutes from Red Deer. For jobs, there are opportunities in the health sector. Most people working in the hospital came from other provinces because of the opportunity. I hope to visit Grande Priarie soon.

I think because of Red Deer's location which is midway between Calgary and Edmonton, it might be better for you guys. Also, the modern look of the city and its population of over 100,000 is just perfect in my opinion.
