I used to count birds at my feeders, for Cornell, back in the early to mid 80`s . I loved getting up at the crack of dawn, and watching birds all weekend. I`ve still never seen a Pileated woodpecker. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing and beautiful Bird. Thank you, Cornell Lab for sharing the views of these beautiful Animal-Kin with the World. Cap'n Toni... Pennsylvania, USA...
I had a Pileated Woodpecker today sitting on the tree in front of my kitchen window. He was huge. Bigger than my African Grey Parrot and he is big. He or she was absolutely beautiful. First time I encountered one so up close. It's beak and face reminded me of Pterodactyls from the Jurassic era. Too cool that bird. God made such wonderful creatures for us to enjoy watching.
Very cool! What type of food is used in the tray the woodpecker is eating? I use black sunflower seeds and thistle seed and only get house and lesser finches, and mourning doves. I use mealworms and get mockingbirds and CA Towee. I would like to try some other food but don’t know which to get.
I guess I watch the birds too much 😉 I can identify all of these. I have your Bird ID Computer program and I love mostly for the sound files on each species. 👍👍👍
I will admit that when I get a good look at one of those magnificent birds (preferably by taking a photo), my main interest is checking to see if it might have a lot of white in black, instead of black. You see, the white would make it an ivory-billed woodpecker instead. Alas, it looks like the ivory-billed woodpeckers are gone. Does Cornell think the ivory-billed still exists? So...as we try to make the best of things by still enjoying the pileated woodpeckers, I want to ask, is it pronounced pill-e-ated or pie-lee-ated?
So what is a pileum and what is special about it on this bird? And just what IS Cornell's current take on the question of the existence of the ivory-billed woodpecker?
You have most likely heard this already, but if not, I am very sorry to tell you that the ivory-billed woodpecker has been declared extinct. It is truly sad what us humans do, and hopefully we can work towards preserving species at risk to make sure we don’t lose any more of our precious birds.
Thank you for any ideas - I live in Colorado. Are the feeders shelled sunflower seeds? Grapefruit? I've used oranges, but never grapefruit. What type of birds enjoy the fresh fruit? Beautiful and so calming!
I'm with Cynthia Robinson. What's in the feeder that the woodpecker feeds the most from? Yes, they like suet, but that's not suet. Looks like sunflower hearts, or peanut pieces maybe. Anybody help us?
+Arishia Nishi at my feeder the wood peckers like the peanut feeder and the seed, peanut, craberry&mealworm feeder. it's all that stuff stuck together. all birds love it
I loved watching him deal with the rotation of the cylindrical feeder, only to finally reason that climbing up on it was the best choice since he'll just rotate with it.
They are a shy bird. There are a lot of them in my area. If you spend much time in the woods and listen for them and see them you will know their sound then you will see more of them.
Lovely feeder arrangement for the birds. Spectacular view. The pleated woodpecker is a doll.
Shalom .Thank you. Watching from Australia. 73 Praise the Lord 37.
Coolest woodpecker ever. We have 2 nesting pairs in our backyard
That is a great set up for the birds. There are so many species that come to feed there. The woodpecker is beautiful.
Wow! That woodpecker looked magical!
They are! I saw them when I lived in New Hampshire. So big compared to other woodpeckers. Just beautiful in person.
Their called pileated woodpeckers and they are very stunning birds to find in the wild
That is a large bird .
Reminds me of Woody (Woodpecker)
Wow he's spectacular! Love how clear and close up the vid is. Beautiful place for birds.
VERY COOL video of the Pileated Woodpecker! Thanks for sharing with us!

Awesome! I would 💗to see one in my back yard. I just started getting woodpeckers
I have never seen one but I see downy and hairy woodpeckers all the time
Campy & Deweys Mommy Are those common ground doves that appear at the beginning of this video?
Campy & Deweys Mommy do you put out suet? we have a woodpecker that loved it. I didn't get it for a while and haven't seen him, hope he comes back 😭
Warning: Pileated Woodpeckers are really big lol. I was shocked the first time I saw one up close. A fully grown one can be eagle or hawk sized

a cornucopia of treats and birds. a male pileated surveying the full buffet, the smaller birds eat and run.
He a big guy!
so large and cool and I saw one today.

Do you put out jelly for the Orioles?
Love the view - with the pond just beyond the feeding station. What is in the red, round plastic container?
seen one in my yard bigger than that one comes back periodically pretty cool
Awesome view. I don’t have this in Wisconsin . I don’t have black birds though, which I’m not a fan of, otherwise looks great
3:50 Close-up.
He looks so confused when the feeder keeps spinning away from him :)
very cool!
Is that Feeding Tray available to purchase somewhere?
Yes! All of the feeders at this site are supplied by Wild Birds Unlimited. Check out www.wbu.com
only that woodpecker can handle a blue jay. doesnt' even flinch.
My favorite
I wish that bluejay hung around a little longer .

Hi all
What is the feed in the one on the right he likes the best?
+Arishia Nishi at my feeder the wood peckers like the peanut feeder and the seed, peanut, craberry&mealworm feeder. it's all that stuff stuck together. all birds love it

What is the black bird with the white strip on its wing at the beginning of the video?
Looks like Red-winged black bird. Seems like the can cover up those shoulder patches, but you can see them briefly when he flies away.

2:00 Who was in the background flying on and off the post by the pond?
Looks like a Common Grackle.
Do woodpeckers also eat oranges?
That woodpecker don't take no guff when he struts his stuff!!!
Anybody knows if the birds that appear at the beginning are common ground doves?
I think they are Mourning Doves.
That Pileated Woodpecker is rare.
I know I've never seen one
We have them quite a lot, but we live on the edge of a national forest. They have almost completely removed an old stump.
They are a shy bird. There are a lot of them in my area. If you spend much time in the woods and listen for them and see them you will know their sound then you will see more of them.
How do you attract woodpeckers and northern flickers?
Get rid of Starlings .
Am I the only one who plays it for their cat?
Hello. What videoing equipment are you using? Thanks!
Bhai woodpecker ke bace kya khate he
👍🐦😘
Are the other birds scared of the woodpecker?
Pecking order.
Not really . There's enough birdseed for everybody .
There used to be a pileated that came to eat breakfast every morning from the dead old tree in my front lawn
Lots of bugs in there probably
