The 53 on the trailers used to be because of the New York Thruway, when a driver had a 53 foot trailer, the toll road would charge more.
These field reporter are brave walking around in the woods in the dark at a truck stop. I’d probably burn my boots who knows what you’re stepping in

I would be tempted to burn the woods! If the department of transportation can clean up a train mess and disappear a whole town why can't we clean the land around the truck stop with a little flame!

At 4:12, these truck stops need to prohibit these drivers from showering at all of their locations when drivers do crap like that!! There is no excuse for that behavior!
Just a tip do timestamps at the beginning of the clip or whatever it is you want us to see. Maybe even a couple seconds before. But nonetheless it wasn't hard to backtrack a bit.
This is exactly why I took a pay cut to work local, drivers have gotten more stupid by the day. 😑 I've never been happier to not deal with this stupidity anymore. 😂

I remember back in 1976 I was a pump boy at the TA when drivers did not pump the fuel we did I was 16 then we told them you have 10 minutes to be back at your truck. First we would page them then go in and ask around is that your truck etc.. trying to find the owner if not found we would move it for them at least to the line boy that used to piss them off. But in those days almost all drivers would either pull to the line and be back out after a quick piss and coffee or whatever if you were gone longer than 30 minutes at the line either the truck was not there when you got back or you got your ass beat. Trucking was a completely different world back then their were no CDL's just a chauffeurs license is all you needed. Funny though how truckstop accidents and dumb things on the road hardly ever happened. After being OTR almost 40 years myself the shit I see makes me embarrassed to be a driver.
BACK THEN.. AFTER THE DAY WAS DONE...We would sit around have a few beers smoke a green one and all get along... Sing some songs...lol

I used to do the exact same thing you did ! I worked at a truck stop in northwest Minnesota! We did full service CK tires , CK oil , water , wash windows, put on fuel , you did 4 or 5 trucks a Hr ! You're moving ! I was in my early twenties in the early eighties! Be safe brother trucker! If you're ever in a place called Fosston Minnesota that was me!

I do it all the time. Fueling takes 15 minutes. Then pull forward for another 15 minutes. 30 minute break completed.

This was a problem with the showers in Afghanistan. When local contractors used the showers, they'd crap in it, poke it into the drain with their feet, then that clogged up the drains

I will admit that during my year on the road, I have a few times taken my thirty at the fuel island, but I planned it out. If I was close to the time I needed to take my 30, I would pull behind a truck that was currently fueling, especially if I saw they had just started fueling. Moment I stopped I'd switch my duty status. After they finished and pulled up, I would then pull up to the pump, go inside to get set up, fuel and clean my windows, lights and mirrors, then pulled up to the ready line to go in to wash my hands, use the restroom and get myself a drink. Whenever I pulled up, I'd look behind me and see if there was another driver pulling up to get fuel, so I knew if I had to move fast or not. The one time I was about a minute short of my break finishing and the guy behind me had finished fueling. I went up to him, asked him if it was okay for me to finish out my last minute. He said it was and the moment my clock reset, I pulled off. Not totally sure if I never pissed someone off doing this, so I tried not to do so if I could help it, but no one ever came up to me asking me to get moving or anything like that. Sometimes, I did go into the restaurants to get a meal, but whenever I did, I made sure that the island was not busy. I looked to see how many pumps were open and also how many drivers were waiting for their turn to pull up to the pumps. If they were busy, then I moved on. If, when I went into the restaurants, there was more than two people in line, I would not go. Also, I made sure I knew exactly what I was going to order, not decided at the register. I didn't want people inconveniencing me, so I made sure I did my best not to inconvenience anyone else. Now, maybe doing ANY of this makes me a Bonehead, but I hope not.
I did the exact same routine! Sometimes intentionally picking a long line ! Just make sure you don't go over 5mph and you're good ! Or I'd take my 30 minutes 5 minutes after my 10 hr reset , start my clock pull ahead a few feet more than 5 mph back into my slot , Go off duty take my 30 and drive the rest of the day!

Those guys who do disgusting things in the showers and bathrooms are really special. You know, when they were kids, they smeared crap on the wall . Well, now they're all grown up and we have to deal with their disgusting handicap.
I think the huge trash mess starts when the can overflows. You can see in the video it's already full. Lazy workers or lack of workers means it piles up. When it overflows it falls out or gets stacked next to the can. When workers finally empty the can, they leave the overflow cause lazy. Then it sits and gets knocked around and animals get into it and you have the mess you see. So it's not just bonehead trucker's fault, but if drivers would not overflow a can and instead carry their trash to the next available can then it wouldn't happen.
NOPE !! They drop the garbage EVERYWHERE !! At the fuel islands, right out their door in the parking spot, out back , feet from entrance door.....you name it the slobs will trash it. They are just filthy animals who weren't raised right.

They should really start teaching what NOT to do @ truck stops when getting your CDL. Might as well take the students to truck stops and make it absurdly clear NOT to block fuel islands since these idiots sometimes don't think it's wrong.
Some of us better trainers DO. But training programs have deteriorated. Often trainers are the same a-holes who do this.
The average Gallon of Liquid weighs in the neighborhood of 8 lbs. +/-- .... P jugs need to be poured out in an appropriate area. Not adding more weight to already heavy trash bags that are handles by some very hard working Custodial Staff in the Truck Stops. I actually feel the same way about all liquids.....

It’s sad to say but there are a lot of low life individuals in the trucking industry. The garbage, urine jugs, and feces issues are the main reasons no one wants to build any truck parking. You could put dumpsters all over the place and they’d still just dump it out their door and leave. At least with the advent of self driving trucks the trash problem will be solved. These days it’s embarrassing to call yourself a truck driver.
The trash,the fuel pump breaks inconsiderate parking,and the absurd prices in the store are ridiculous. I have said it many times,if they didn't have showers,I would fuel,and thats it.
I understand but me being company and not owning the truck, I'd rather park at a truck stop,I don't want my truck to get hit of course but parking at random spots in cities is much too dangerous these days,you're alone and a sitting duck,between me and the truck I'd rather the truck being hit at a truck stop than"Me" being hurt trying to avoid truck stop drama, that's just me,Ijs.....
My experience, those garbage cans are usually full to the brim. The truckstop personnel don’t come out and empty it or have a collection site for the sanitation department to pick them up. Therefore, I drivers left no choice except trash next to the garbage can. Unfortunately, there are some animals that go and scatter the trash everywhere. In search of a meal.
A product of the times. Nobody eats real food anymore. All prepackaged junk filled with inflammatory seed oils and HFCS. We make way more trash nowadays, whether you throw it away or not.
I seriously hope those employees can track whoever was in that shower last. Maybe they can look in their POS system and see a rewards account # or a card # or anything. That dudes needs to be blacklisted from ever showering in a truck stop ever again. Disgusting piece of sh*t
No kidding! I had to clean some nasty freak's "baby batter" off the mirror! I gagged for a solid ten minutes after that. Seriously I think they need to do something about this crap, it's getting ridiculous how many people (women and regular drivers included) just trash bathrooms without a second thought.

For some reason that flying j in Springville Utah just attracts the worst types of people. Had a guy from Knight take his sweet time pulling all the way forward and actually leaving.

The worse truck stop is the Loves in Tolleson AZ off of 83rd Ave.
parking on the fuel island is a never ending thing ive seen them park on the fuel island at one truck stop and walk over to anther truck stop and walk back

At some point we need auto lifts on the trailers and sensors that scream at you when you almost backup into the grass or almost hit someone. Wonder what the vids are going to be like when some truckers go E semi.
Simple camera systems would prevent so much carnage. I'm installing a 4 cam set-up on my work van.
