My point is that Amy Rose had no right to hit Sonic with a Piko-Piko Hammer as if it’s good karma after years of friend-zoning her (he was probably just shy and had a hard time finding the right time to date her because of overwork) and also maturity, yet if Sonic did that to her even if there were a legit reason for him to do the same thing if she could hit him back (which we don’t recommend at all yet it happened anyways) if she (purposely) for doing the same things she accuses Sonic of like forgetting her dates and choosing himself over his own friends (Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, the Freedom Fighters, the Babylon Rogues who are or were usually his rivals), that wouldn’t make him worse!

It's the most strange thing of all time. Amy straight up contracted Vector for her team(and didn't pay him for it, why did he agree?) like 30 minutes before the tournament because she couldn't bother tracking down big. Yet she still cares more about that cat than Cream if the roster of TSR is any indication. It's like how Team Dark are only allowed to be friends on every second monday.

Let’s just hope to God Sonic Frontiers makes him that Tails, the one we came to know and love, the one that is (or was) one of the greatest gaming characters (before flanderization hit him like a truck) by feeling like his own playable hero!
I can see what the writers were trying to do with Tails in Sonic Forces. They were trying to write a Tails who had spent *6 months* believing that he’s the sole reason his best friend and long-time partner *died.* That type of trauma eroded all the confidence he built up over his years of adventuring, so he wasn’t in the right state of mind to fight a opponent like Chaos 0. The actual problem with the scene, and Sonic Forces’s entire plot, is that we *don’t see* those 6 months. We *don’t see* how these characters changed after Eggman declared war. What makes the scene even more strange is that after Classic Sonic shows up, Tails goes back to his normal characterization, implying that all the character growth he had experienced since Sonic Adventure was entirely dependent on Sonic. This scene is just a testament to the destructive force of a plot that doesn’t follow “show, not tell”. A absolutely awful scene.
Actually, he never had a trauma in the Japanese script. The English script made it up. Kinda like the torture mention. Never happened in the Japanese script.

I get what you're trying to say, but here's the thing though; a similar situation happened in SA2 where Tails was the reason Eggman knew about the fake emerald causing Sonic to be ejected and from the ark and "die" in a self-destructing pod. Even though he saw Sonic "die" right in front of him, he still had enough courage to fight Eggman. So this whole trauma thing doesn't really make sense (if that's what the writers were going for)
I can not stress how much of a joy it was after playing sonic forces getting the urge to rewatching all of sonic x again after so many years. Tails was on point in the whole show and Jesus Christ I remembering how much of a bad ass he could be was the spark I needed to call bullshit on what a awful character they turned him into. Remember in sonic x when him and shadow played mind game for Cosmo and how by all accounts outsmarted shadow. Like sonic was knocked out 99% of the episode and the crew were being slowly picked off by the ultimate lifeform. the only reason Tails lost is because shadow had a fake chaos emerald. Even then did he start sobbing when he was bested and Shadow had his sight on Cosmo? NO, He threw himself at the black and red hedgehog despite how he know he’s no match for shadow.

Tails is my favourite character and I hate what they did to him, he went from being Sonic's timid kid "brother", to hero, to useless background coward! Why can't he be playable, and like he was in the adventure games again?
God, I hate this era so much. I know people will say this era wasn’t terrible cause the games were still fun, but I hate how we have to have our expectations so low that a game just being fun is passable. Sonic was always trying to be more than a simple platforming series, having storytelling in even the classic games, with Knuckles having actual character development through a show don’t tell method. Saying that this series doesn’t need good stories is kinda missing the point. No, it doesn’t need good stories…but without a good narrative, what makes the series special? I really don’t know the answer to that.
What are those people smoking? We only got three good games out of the Meta Era in the form of Colors, Generations, and Mania. Every other game from the Meta Era ranged from mediocre to awful, so the bad writing can't even be dismissed because the games weren't even that fun most of the time. Hell, Colors, Generations, and Mania are such fun games to play that their very existence is an anomaly when compared to the rest of the Meta Era.

I'm gonna get crucified for this, but that really just wasn't a bad scene. Honestly, I feel like Infinite was generally a pretty good character [and - dare I say - more interesting than Mephiles?], it's just that he had the misfortune of having to have his debut game be Sonic Forces.
@@JoeContext Infinite had a lot of wasted potential for a major antagonist, especially since he was likely killed off permanently after his last rematch with Sonic. For one, his relationship with the Jackal Squad is barely touched upon. Also, Infinite has several character flaws, namely his sadism (he doesn't kill the rookie and Sonic when he has the chance) and his ego (he brushes off Eggman when he berates Infinite for not finishing off Sonic, and brags that he defeated Sonic in his first encounter while Eggman failed to do so for decades), that set him apart from the nigh-invincible Mephiles, and ultimately result in his defeat.
Infinite's personality in his theme is much different than what we got, seriously *I am the sharpest of blades, I'll cut you down in a second. 'Cause I was born in this pain, it only hurts if you let it* and *This pain persists, I can't resist but that's what it takes to be Infinite (yeah)* literally have him a Sadomasochist and yet what does he do in his defeat after he began to be "stronger" since his backstory? Is sensitive and leaves like a coward, can't even make his final words actually memorable which makes a good villain, nobody wants a overly egotistical manchild as a villain.

I feel sorry for Wave after she got scolded and yelled at too. And like I said, Jet and Storm scolding and yelling at Wave sounds out-of-character for them. Usually, they care for Wave and share decent chemistry with her. But here, they're doing the exact opposite, which is belittling her. Poor girl.
I'm so glad that Frontiers fixed the problem of every character being just there... It made Tails, Amy and Knuckles actually matter. Not to mention that it has actual continuity towards every game in the franchise with some clever dialogue choices. Not to mention it criticizes the writing in the more modern games.
One of my worst colors era moments was in Sonic forces episode shadow. Not the whole episode but one moment in particular. It was cool to see team dark to be portrayed as comrades but the part that really triggered me was that shadow the hedgehog in my opinion is partly responsible for infinite taking a dark path into becoming this world war tyrant by not only calling infinite worthless but by coldly murdering the whole jackal squad. It wasn't stated directly but to Infinite they were the only people that he cares about like family. This is hinted by the fact that he sounded angry when he said "You... You destroyed my squad. I'll show you why they call me the ultimate mercenary! Take THIS!!". That showed that infinite actually cared about their well being. That was until shadow had to act all dark and edgy and kill the members of the jackal squad in cold blood showing no hint of remorse and making infinite feel alone with no one to call family. And this makes shadow partly responsible for starting the whole war in sonic forces in one of the worst of out of character ways possible.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who not only despises Sonic Forces, but also up to the point where even Shadow’s DLC, like Infinite and the rest of the game itself, while it had potential, was executed in such atrocious ways like it just goes to show that Sega pretty much turned into how they made Tails in that game - a character (or in this case a company) who decided to give up on being valiant to the point of not being afraid of failure, yet failing because they just lost their care because they didn’t fight the negative influence the Sonic fandom had on them.
Infinite's backstory is completely inconsistent. At one point he is a mercenary that went rogue for some stupid reason because "world bad so I'm going to destroy world so no more world bad". At another he is a mercenary that got his ass kicked by Shadow, lost his mind in the most stupid and infantile way possible and then fuses with the Phantom Ruby. And then at another he is a biologic invention of Eggman made as a vessel for the Phantom Ruby thanks to what Tails and Amy stated. There's 3 versions of Infinite's backstory but the game never states which one is the canonical one, I bring his backstory from the comic because that specific comic marketed itself as Infinite's origins. If Infinite's origin in the DLC is the correct one, then why he has such a hate for Sonic instead of Shadow? (Which might I add, he and Infinite don't have any interaction outside of the DLC), if the comic is the correct one, why does Infinite not attempt to betray Eggman and destroy the world himself? Since Eggman wants to conquer it, not destroy it.
What makes you think Shadow actually did that? Episode Shadow ended up being a canon acid trip where even Shadow had trouble making sense of what was real & what was illusion. For all we know the reason we get contradictions in Infinite's backstory is because the memories are fake & nothing more than another illusion in Infinite's insanity! Also the series is better off bringing back Infinite (Ian Flynn could probably do a great job salvaging him) than having random inclusions of Zavok.

A lot of people thought Colors was the end of the “dark ages.” They we’re all wrong. Sonic was always in the golden ages, and Colors was the beginning of Sonic becoming utterly stale and boring.
Technically, he was in a complicated state in the late 2000s thanks to games like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06, and the rest was a variety of different directions like the storybook games and Unleashed. This is what I prefer to call the overly ambitious era of Sonic. Its heart is in the right place, but a lot of the attempts fell really short. Then you have Colors and onward, where the safe approach was fine at first, but it started to become evident how cynical yet tired the series was getting. Its heart is now in the wrong place.

@@zigzagintrusion The whole cat & mouse served to add a spin on 'Girl likes guy" trope (Sonic Boom just make it into a generic sitcom romance, which yeah was the point, but doesn't make it better), plus Amy acted as a foil to Sonic in a lot of ways. Adventure 1 Amy showcased more emotional intelligence than Sonic, while showing her love for him was simply the guy she admired for rescuing her. Now this isn't to say she shouldn't mature, because eventually she would have to, but I also think it makes her stick out. However, the whole "Frontiers matured" Amy thing doesn't sit well with me because it doesn't feel like they matured her at all, they completely changed her character. A random shift that happened in Lost World. And ever since this, while she has this calmer disposition, it comes at the expense of identity. Yeah, she's "mature", but why exactly is she mature? Because liking Sonic wouldn't be immature, but rather HOW she chooses to express that, Frontiers never once dives into this question of why Amy wants to change her focus from Sonic. that would've been more compelling, have Amy still like Sonic, but want to shift focus. She just sees the Koco's love and decides that's what she wants to do with no reference toward her infatuation toward Sonic. I've found this to be a consistent problem since Lost World, it FEELS as if Amy is NEVER allowed to showcase raw emotion like anger, or love because Sonic Team wants to keep this image, she's "matured"(which is also regressive saying a female shouldn't be angry) so by having her do anything to ruin that will "ruin" their image of her. It feels as if this change came solely for damage control in response to negative feedback rather than organic transition. For as abrupt as Amy changed in IDW for some people, IDW at least bothers to make Amy showcase more emotion and shows she still likes Sonic, it's not afraid to show who she is, while acknowledging the person she HAS become and is able to express this in a more focused way. So I find it odd, how she can be more mature and playful in IDW, yet Frontiers presents this somber and calm persona just to say she's mature. So I'm asking myself, why should I care if she's mature if she's not giving a reason for it? Mature people can have emotions and react to things, they don't just keep the same tone consistently the entire time. It also baffles me because Frontiers isn't afraid to address Tails worst moments, even going as far as to reference Forces where the game is like 'yeah, here you goes Tails was garbage in this game' but instead of feeling ashamed they provide lip service in order to address the problem and continue to grow Tails. Whereas with Amy it comes off as her showing ANY emotion other than passive gestures is seen as wrong. It feels as if her more subdued nature is more damage control than actual meaningful character progression. As in, they are so gung-ho about appealing to fan backlash about her previous persona that they think stripping away her character fixes it, when you don't improve a character by removing their character. That's like if Nintendo responded to the notion of Princess Peach being a Damsel in Distress decided to make her Samus Aran or Bayonetta, that's not improving a character, that's moving them too far in another direction. which is now the same problem Amy had before where she could have her character focus TOO much on Sonic, and have her other traits deemphasized, now it's just in reverse. it's like how people say the characters are no longer tropey, when every character are topes in a vacuum. and not just in Sonic. In the 2010s and Frontiers I can't really define a single characteristic about Amy and the only thing ever highlighted about her is that she's female which is regressive. She doesn't even display a resemblance of character flaws. Amy doesn't have to be written the same way if they are going to write her away from that dynamic but being mature doesn't mean she shouldn't have a personality or flaws. (Amy doesn't express any character flaws anymore) Because acknowledging her flaws and allowing her to grow from them would've been better. Amy still feels like her personality just amounts to Girl. And while her compassionate side is emphasized, Amy was already that and I feel SA1 did a better job because it better characterized her and didn't expend her characteristics in the process. It also feels as if they are trying to write her too much like her Boom counterpart, which was established as her own character with the dynamic of the crush presenting a different perspective. Just with how she speaks and interacts feels that way, except ironically, she lacks the character even her Boom persona has, which makes her feel like a diet version of her. As a side note, making her more like boom Amy isn't better because they were two different stablished characters, you don't improve a character by making them into another character. That isn't how that works. I always disliked how people acted as if their boom counterparts were one in the same or used them as if they represented the characters when they are different versions of them. This is further compounded by Cindy's performance, in which Amy's emotional range is nonexistent, she just has the same boring and melodramatic tone the entire time, not sifting between emotion. I think the actress's performance also impacted my perception of her, there are lines that feel written to make her more upbeat, but the delivery is way too tame. Like even a more introverted girl could come up with phrases like that with that tone of voice. which again is not mature, mature people can have ranged emotions. Amy also sounds like a stereotypical female, whereas previously she had a distinct voice that highlighted the best and worst attributes about her. her adventure era giving more of an overly emotional pre-teen and the 4kids giving more emotional range. meanwhile when I hear her speak in frontiers, I don't sum it up as mature, I see it as generic woman voice which is not helped by the passive gestures she's given. even when Amy scolds Sonic, the emotion doesn't fit how she should feel. At least when she was "annoying fangirl" you could give me a description of who she was. you are using descriptors to describe her. The fact I've ever seen anyone name a single identifiable trait of Modern Amy is proof that she has no character.

It's also weird because the IDW comics do exactly what i want from Amy, her love for Sonic is shown from time to time, but her expressive, bubbly and kindhearted nature are her central character, alongside how she expressive liking Sonic. in Frontiers she feels like just 'Female, she likes love and is compassionate' which the latter was always apart of her character any way.
I don’t think the “colors era” is ever going to end. This is what Sega has decided they want Sonic the Hedgehog to be now. They’ve proven that they do not care at all about legitimately pleasing older fans, only tricking them into spending money with that trailer bait you were talking about.
I’d have to agree. Sega doesn’t really feel they need to try with this series anymore, which I’ve felt the most with the new trailer. They don’t need to sell us on a new game, just say it’s coming out and wait for people to eat it up. If that’s what Sonic is now, just a marketable name…then I’m confident in saying that I’m not gonna be a fan of this series at that point. It’d only be filled with people repeating the same era talk and supporting Sonic going in a thousand different directions…rather than the one the developers originally intended.
The people in charge have BEEN in charge for a long time, and they just keep hiring people who... Are not fit for the job, so to say. They use Sonic's face to make money, but don't give a damn. I need to research this more, but a lot of their decisions as of late are making me feel like there might be some level of nepotism in the company...

I'm surprised there wasn't a spotlight on the fact that both Colors AND Lost World had Tails get "possessed" in a cutscene, only for it to be solved in the cutscene itself unsatisfyingly. Like, there's literally no point to those cutscenes. It's just disappointing that it ISN'T a boss fight. It's even worse in Lost World where it was not only the second time they pulled that garbage, but they even gave Tails a cyborg design that would've been so cool to fight.
I’m just gonna say it; I think that even when Tails was possessed in the early 2010s main Sonic games, he was still showing his true (recent) personality which is an immature, sulking, whiny, hormonal little child who played victim.
I have a feeling there were actual plans for that to be a boss battle but it got scrapped for whatever reason and they just used the cutscene and model bc they didn’t wanted to waste it, that’s my assumption

I guess I could call it my favourite game out of what I've played? (I'm sure there's better ofc). I've only ever played a few Sonic games: Sonic 3; Sonic Advance 3; Sonic Team Racing; The Mario and Sonic Olympic titles; one level of Sonic Unleashed when I was seven and Sonic Forces. I like Forces out of all of them since I enjoyed the avatar and modern Sonic's levels and Infinite had some good ol' edgy potential. But there are plenty criticisms I have: the writing butchered Tails (my favourite character); the weird localisation touches like Sonic being tortured that literally had no weight in the plot; Classic's gameplay was finnicky and while Infinite had *potential*, it wasn't exactly used. So, maybe I could just call it my favourite game for now, until I can find some sort of port/emulator for Sonic Adventure.
Funny thing I noticed is that if Sega is so hell-bent on not making other characters playable again, they already figured out ways to play around it with Forces, in 2 ways no less! 1)Tag Team. Have one of Sonic's friends tag along to give you an extra platforming/exploration/combat ability without taking away from the key gameplay. Heck they already had some ideas in that line back in Generations with the co-op missions, why not expand on that? 2)Interacting with them not just in the story but in the levels themselves. We saw Infinite screw reality all around Capital City, what's stopping other characters from changing things around you as the level goes? Have Silver create a bridge out of falling debris, have Omega blow through a massive Death Egg Robot giving you an opening to go inside it, have the Chaotix set up an ambush and wipe out a group of enemies heading your way, who says only the villains can have all the fun? If they're gonna include them, at least do something with them dangit.

Just Sonic Mentality was a mistake that only served to make everyone feel useless. The Adventure Games had the right idea of letting you play as characters other than Just Sonic & the same can be said for the Advance Games. Balance is an important thing & Sonic isn't nearly as fun when we're forced to play as him & only him with gameplay that isn't as good as what we were getting long ago.
@Arion The Kid 2022, it's gonna be the start of the 4th decade. The end of the 3rd decade is the unpolished Colors remaster. In a way it's almost poetic to the lack of creativity of this decade, it ends right where the previous decade ended, almost like there's been no progress whatsoever.
Tails. being my favorite Sonic character, cutscene 5 in Sonic Forces hurt me. I liked him because he was intelligent and brave. He was only 8 and he could do these amazing things. I loved his positive attitude, like how he believed in himself (That’s literally what his theme song in Sonic Adventure was about). He was Sonic’s “guy in the chair”, but he still fought when he had to. But now, he’s become too dependent and cowardly, and it breaks my heart to see what Sega has done to him. I hope Frontiers serves him justice.
I sincerely hope that Colors Ultimate is the end of the Meta Era, I just hope that "Rangers" will use the correct tone (or even a better one). Also, even if I didn't know you for long, I thank you so much for opening my eyes to the beauty and writing of Sonic games, and other franchises as well. I'm upset you're leaving, but I wish you the best of luck for the future!
@ArtBuffalo I agree. Even if their opportunities are endless, I'm still confused on how they're so blind to see the good in the bad and the bad in the good. If they just hired the right people with the right experience, they could nail it, but we're going to have to wait to see what's up for their future.
Man, you really ended it all with a bang! Honestly the Meta/Colors Era was the biggest disappointment, not just for me, but for any longtime fan. It's sad how the Nostalgia-driven escapade Sega & Sonic Team made after the bad press surrounding their past games eventually became nothing but a cheap gimmick, and in my opinion i think it hit harder on the story and characters than the gameplay and level design. It is true that it had some good moments (like you said in the previous top 10 list), and that most of the games were okay at best (with some exceptions), but man, the amount of negatives surrounding this era of Sonic pretty much surpass all the positives here. Flanderized characters, weak stories, and overall a complete disregard to what made the franchise so special in favor of cheap nostalgia pandering. It's been like this since 2010, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. At this point i'm no longer a Sonic fan, and i'm not even looking forward to whatever comes next, but i still watched this video because i like your content, in fact, you're one of the few SonicTubers i really like (along with Cybershell), and it's sad that this is your final video. i'll miss you a lot but i still wish you good luck with your future endeavours! Ken Penders sued for the rights to his characters, leading to Archie gutting anything related to Ken Penders from their continuity as a result of their incompetence (fun fact: a comic character created for a company like Marvel, DC, and Archie usually belongs to that company afterwards, not the creator. Image Comics was born because the creators who founded it wanted full creative control and couldn't get that with Marvel for that very reason). The loss of most of the unique aspects of that version of Sonic had a negative effect on Archie Sonic despite Ian Flynn's best efforts to keep it afloat, ultimately resulting in its cancellation. In other words, not only does the copyright law line make no sense in the context of Colors (and it really doesn't despite the set-up), it's also a blatant lie since copyright law did stop Sonic.

Deadass on point with Free Riders Amy. I know people seem to compare her a lot to her Adventure portrayals to show how much she was ruined up to that point, but I don't think anybody seems to realize how much Free Riders Amy also botched Riders Amy's reputation as a whole. In the original Riders, Amy stood up for Tails when Wave insulted him and throughout the story, she was very supportive of Team Sonic. Furthermore, she also had an attitude of her own, going out her way to lash out at Sonic for whenever he screws up or did something that upset her, or in Zero Gravity when she was chased by Storm, being this somewhat intimidating and scary brute in her eyes, in which she threw the Ark of the Cosmos at him and ordered him around as if she's now his new boss. It's moments like these that make Amy seem like a living breathing character with actual feelings. Free Riders seemed to have looked through her "attitude" moments, seeing them as her most defining characteristic in those games, and doubled down on them. It really just depends on the context, and having Amy berate Cream publicly who was seemingly supposed to be kinda her little sister in a way for literally no reason, yeah, it seems completely uncalled for and OOC for her. And that also seems to be the recurrent theme for all these Colors-era games. The writers only look up what each of the characters' defining traits are, and just dial them up to eleven. I've always been afraid to criticize the Studiopolis voice cast due to their history with taking things to heart as well as overly-harsh fans going out their way to harass them, but I just can't stress enough how absolutely dreadful the voice direction for these characters has been for the past decade. Every single character seems to act like self-aware parodies of themselves (looking directly at you Boom), and if they're not acting as self parodies, they're dull, lacking any distinct personality and are there just to make bad jokes. Even though I personally think Amy's Boom/LW/Forces/TSR and IDW portrayals are much worse due to how much they represent Amy's current identity or in this case, lack there of, I still can never forgive Free Riders and Generations for tarnishing Amy's reputation for the worse, which then lead to SEGA/Sonic Team "maturing" her character from then on, to the point where she's just as interesting as a stale loaf of bread. I've seen so many people trying to defend the "new" Amy by saying that fans and critics alike were going around so much of how she needed to be more independent and less clingy which then lead to SEGA/Sonic Team supposedly responding to this backlash, and how people like myself need to accept the fact that this is SEGA's decision as to how they handle Amy now. It reminds me a lot of how people constantly bring up the "B-but Sonic '06!" excuse for the 14th millionth time to completely shut Adventure/Dark age fans down. But furthermore, this to me just resembles one thing I know about SEGA, and it's that they're a multi-billion dollar company in the public eye, and like all corporations and companies out there, they'll always do everything in their power to act on any feedback given to them, even if it means contradicting whatever their stance was from yesterday. How Sonic as a brand is perceived will be the top high priority to them, so in order to play it safe, they'll be sure to remove any risk of negative perception or stigma they had in the past as quickly as you can finish saying "Gotta Go Fast!". This to my and many other people's annoyances is the biggest blunder to this whole affair. The characters and stories they've built upon for years are now warped and shaped to the point where they can no longer stand on their own. I don't actually see the Colors-era coming to a close anytime soon, as the release of Rise of the Wisps, Colors Ultimate and even more recently the Twitter Takeover, just solidifies my statement. Even though Cindy has seemingly left the role as Amy, I sadly don't think that SEGA/Sonic Team will hire back Lisa Ortiz or anybody that could pull off a similar sounding voice to Amy's first two voice actresses, they'd probably see that era of how Amy was written as pure cringe. It would've been nice to hear Lisa voicing my favorite pink gal again. After all, she has expressed numerous times in the past how Amy was one of her favorites roles to provide voice work for, and she has appeared in the Sonic and Tails R fan radio drama, which ironically has more love put into these characters and lore than any of the games made by the actual developers and creators these days. It's not uncommon to see fans going around saying how much they love Lisa's Amy and how much they want her back. It caught me by surprise that you're leaving the channel, but it's a decision I support. You've entered into the RUclipsr analysis scene wanting to face all the retroactive backlash surrounding the stigma Sonic has in the 2000s, and I think you've said pretty much everything you wanted to say and everything people like myself wanted to say but couldn't as we were either too shy or didn't have the means to do so. I still remember stumbling upon your Amy analysis for the first time and eventually working my way down through the entire playlist, as I agree with pretty much everything you've said in them. Even characters like the Babylon Rogues that I was completely ambivalent towards, were given such justice that made me reconsider my stance on the trio and wanting to give the Riders series a go someday. You came in wanting to remind everyone why people used to care about these characters so much and not only you did your job perfectly, but I think those last two videos on the best/worst Colors era moments were the perfect way to send off your 2 year-long channel with a bang, or in this case, a Sonic Boom. Kinda speaks volumes how this video has garnered almost twice as many views as your Best Colors era moments one, doesn't it? I'm sorry to say that I've completely missed out on your farewell livestream, but I'll be sure to watch through it. I didn't realise Operation Big Wave was Knuckles basically saying "Some of you may die, but it's a sacrifice I am willing to make." But, I can definitely say the things Tails said and did in Lost World made me want to punch him.

(I promise this is relavent) One of my favorite lines from Shadow is often overlooked. In Sonic Adventure 2, during the final boss fight Sonic and Shadow often talk to each other during it. One of Shadow's lines he can say during it is "Sonic...! I think I've discovered what the ultimate lifeform is! It might be you!" Because this plays during a boss fight it's not a very well known line, but like, he was literally GIVING UP THE TITLE THERE FOR SONIC. RIGHT THERE. And in the modern games his entire personality is acting like he's above sonic when he LITERALLY SAID THAT
To be fair there was the amnesia thing after that, but then again when you consider how he acted with Sonic in 06 it doesn't make sense he'd be like that today.

from izuka's interviews, the franchise getting ridiculously dumb, childish and lazy was no accident. it was purposeful from the beginning. he wants to sell the game to 3 to 5 year olds so making great level designs, lots of gameplay and well-crafted stories isn't worth it as it's easier to push something mediocre that they catch with their teeth. after all, sonic is fast it's funny.....yeah. you who expect something well done in "Sonic rangers" I think it's better not to expect anything
Considering the stuff Pokémon gets away with (death, war, slavery, etc) while still being marketed to kids (moreso than Sonic tbh), it's pretty obvious the "for kids" argument is BS! It's a shame some folks have been brainwashed into accepting: Marketed for kids = minimum effort/content.
The worst one of them all was the interview where Iizuka blatantly disregard us Adventure fans by saying that SA3 would “step the franchise back”. Yet, that’s exactly what all these meta era games have done. The over-reliance on Genesis era nostalgia, Classic Sonic, 2D sections in 3D games, constantly shoving those stupid Wisps down our throats, complete lack of character development, etc. Smh. My god, Iizuka’s a fuckin' hypocrite. SA3 would in fact move the series forward. But only if it’s made by passionate Adventure era fans.

Nah, Sonic Forces Cutscene #5 wasn't just one of the lowest points in the Colors era, it was _THE_ lowest point in the entire franchise. Also, I know it's not a part of the Colors era, but I need to get this off my chest. In a cutscene in Sonic Unleashed, Tails is surrounded by four Nightmares, two Deep Nightmares and a Titan. And while he was able to defend himself, It is totally understandable why he would fly away instead. These were new enemies, and he was outnumbered. Meanwhile in Forces, there was absolutely no excuse for cowering in fear at Chaos 0.
The meta era has a lot of bad things, if it's not the writing, it's the aesthetic, the characters or gameplay, and in many respects, I wish Colors Ultimate is the last game from this era, I have no hope for Rangers but I wish Sega proves me wrong and gives us a game worth remembering because taking Generations off the equation, there's nothing iconic or worth remembering about this era, fans of these characters had the short end of the stick (as an Amy fan, I know how it feels), the level design has been simplified, the world has been babyfied, and the stories are worse, it's all "zoomie hedgie dashing like a maniac and doing kindergarden jokes" now and no iconic mascot should aspire to that to be like Mario, because Mario is also more than "funny ya hoo man collecting coins". I have a disdain for Sonictubers that only intensified with the leaks of Sonic Rangers and the constant clickbait videos, but you are amazing and nothing like them, I hope that whatever you plan on doing next, you find success. Fly high, my friend.

Sonic Adventure showed us the logical maturation of Tails from little kid tagging along with Sonic to full-fledged member of team Sonic who could carry his own weight. It showed fans (and especially gamers who had older siblings) that they could emerge out of big brother's (or big sister's) shadow.
Your breakdown of that tails scene had me smiling. I really needed to hear somebody apologetically taking apart that scene without making sure not to step on any (apologies) tails. I highly understand the importance of being sensitive and putting up a wall so that people don't get hurt, but also I want to be able to apologetically look at the bad sometimes.
Been following this channel since it first started up. Gotta say it's sad to see that it's coming to an end. But your passion is voice acting, and you're following through with that. So thanks for your contributions to this very divided Sonic fandom. A lot of these videos have been insightful as they were enjoyable. And I'm sure there's a lot of people who feel the same way. THANK YOU for ripping into Colors era Tails. Tails has always been my favorite character in the entire franchise and throughout the whole 2010s they did him SO DIRTY. I think this trend actually started in Unleashed but Pontaff should never touch his character again. Tails is actually supposed to be a badass, and like you said, a kid you can look up to.

Just like how some people use the "Generations split the timeline" to explain Classic Sonic now being from another dimension, we can't claim that was the intent if it wasn't shown. While I do like Unleashed, I have to agree it's where the sidelining of the cast started, but it only got worse rather than improving.

@@MegaGlassguy To be fair, I think the smaller cast worked in the favor of Unleashed, as '06 had more focus on Shadow as the protagonist than Sonic, so I could see why they decided to go this route. It was a breath of fresh air that became stale in subsequent games.
I bet there are good fanfic writers who wrote good stories where Knuckles sees a memorial for everyone killed in Operation: Big Wave and realise he’s responsible for sending most of them to their deaths. All because of an ill-conceived plan that neither Amy, Espio or anyone objected to.

The pressure's all on the upcoming 2022 Sonic game to change the series for the better or make it even worse.

I just want to play as other characters other than Sonic, have Tails and Knuckles playable again Shadow, Silver, Blaze, any of them! It feels like they mainly focus of Sonic being playable and then having Tails and Eggman in the story While the rest of the cast gets just the cheerleader role!
Something i want to see someday is there to be a silver the hedgehog game and a game for team dark where shadow isn’t an edge lord, but continues his character from sonic 06.
If they gave us the ability to fight Mecha Tails in Lost World, it could make sense why he is a fearful kid in Forces. Getting turned into a part machine, and then fighting your friend, cant be good for your self confidence.

Your videos on Knuckles, Tails Shadow, Team Dark and more are what really got me more invested in Sonic stories and characters. I am extremely thankful to have watched your opinions on what are now some my favourite characters in fiction. There were one or 2 disagreements here and there but that's just a part of being human. Still, I appreciate all you've done and wish you the best on future ventures. Once again, thank you.

Amy insulting Cream like that is painful after seeing the two of them in Sonic Heroes and in Sonic Advance 3.
It's like they retconned those games away.
BTW, the insult was meant for Vector in the Japanese version (she mentions muscles there, so it's clear who it was targeted to). I don't get why they changed it to her insulting Cream instead.

My point is that Amy Rose had no right to hit Sonic with a Piko-Piko Hammer as if it’s good karma after years of friend-zoning her (he was probably just shy and had a hard time finding the right time to date her because of overwork) and also maturity, yet if Sonic did that to her even if there were a legit reason for him to do the same thing if she could hit him back (which we don’t recommend at all yet it happened anyways) if she (purposely) for doing the same things she accuses Sonic of like forgetting her dates and choosing himself over his own friends (Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Rouge, the Freedom Fighters, the Babylon Rogues who are or were usually his rivals), that wouldn’t make him worse!

It's the most strange thing of all time. Amy straight up contracted Vector for her team(and didn't pay him for it, why did he agree?) like 30 minutes before the tournament because she couldn't bother tracking down big. Yet she still cares more about that cat than Cream if the roster of TSR is any indication.
It's like how Team Dark are only allowed to be friends on every second monday.

In Sonic Adventure 2 he was confident... but independant? I don't really think so...
Lost World did so… but played it as a bad thing.
I can see what the writers were trying to do with Tails in Sonic Forces.
They were trying to write a Tails who had spent *6 months* believing that he’s the sole reason his best friend and long-time partner *died.*
That type of trauma eroded all the confidence he built up over his years of adventuring, so he wasn’t in the right state of mind to fight a opponent like Chaos 0.
The actual problem with the scene, and Sonic Forces’s entire plot, is that we *don’t see* those 6 months.
We *don’t see* how these characters changed after Eggman declared war.
What makes the scene even more strange is that after Classic Sonic shows up, Tails goes back to his normal characterization, implying that all the character growth he had experienced since Sonic Adventure was entirely dependent on Sonic.
This scene is just a testament to the destructive force of a plot that doesn’t follow “show, not tell”.

I get what you're trying to say, but here's the thing though; a similar situation happened in SA2 where Tails was the reason Eggman knew about the fake emerald causing Sonic to be ejected and from the ark and "die" in a self-destructing pod. Even though he saw Sonic "die" right in front of him, he still had enough courage to fight Eggman. So this whole trauma thing doesn't really make sense (if that's what the writers were going for)
I can not stress how much of a joy it was after playing sonic forces getting the urge to rewatching all of sonic x again after so many years. Tails was on point in the whole show and Jesus Christ I remembering how much of a bad ass he could be was the spark I needed to call bullshit on what a awful character they turned him into.
Remember in sonic x when him and shadow played mind game for Cosmo and how by all accounts outsmarted shadow. Like sonic was knocked out 99% of the episode and the crew were being slowly picked off by the ultimate lifeform. the only reason Tails lost is because shadow had a fake chaos emerald. Even then did he start sobbing when he was bested and Shadow had his sight on Cosmo? NO, He threw himself at the black and red hedgehog despite how he know he’s no match for shadow.

With Frontiers, there is potential Tails will be brought back to his former glory, which would be pretty cool to see, especially if they remember Tails is actually one of the more powerful characters in the games.
Tails is my favourite character and I hate what they did to him, he went from being Sonic's timid kid "brother", to hero, to useless background coward! Why can't he be playable, and like he was in the adventure games again?

God, I hate this era so much. I know people will say this era wasn’t terrible cause the games were still fun, but I hate how we have to have our expectations so low that a game just being fun is passable. Sonic was always trying to be more than a simple platforming series, having storytelling in even the classic games, with Knuckles having actual character development through a show don’t tell method.
Saying that this series doesn’t need good stories is kinda missing the point. No, it doesn’t need good stories…but without a good narrative, what makes the series special? I really don’t know the answer to that.
What are those people smoking? We only got three good games out of the Meta Era in the form of Colors, Generations, and Mania. Every other game from the Meta Era ranged from mediocre to awful, so the bad writing can't even be dismissed because the games weren't even that fun most of the time. Hell, Colors, Generations, and Mania are such fun games to play that their very existence is an anomaly when compared to the rest of the Meta Era.

There were plenty worst things. "I am not weak" came at the wrong time - when fans were finally understanding why people like me thought the Colors era was indeed a bad thing

I'm gonna get crucified for this, but that really just wasn't a bad scene. Honestly, I feel like Infinite was generally a pretty good character [and - dare I say - more interesting than Mephiles?], it's just that he had the misfortune of having to have his debut game be Sonic Forces.
@@JoeContext Infinite had a lot of wasted potential for a major antagonist, especially since he was likely killed off permanently after his last rematch with Sonic. For one, his relationship with the Jackal Squad is barely touched upon.
Also, Infinite has several character flaws, namely his sadism (he doesn't kill the rookie and Sonic when he has the chance) and his ego (he brushes off Eggman when he berates Infinite for not finishing off Sonic, and brags that he defeated Sonic in his first encounter while Eggman failed to do so for decades), that set him apart from the nigh-invincible Mephiles, and ultimately result in his defeat.
Infinite's personality in his theme is much different than what we got, seriously *I am the sharpest of blades, I'll cut you down in a second. 'Cause I was born in this pain, it only hurts if you let it* and *This pain persists, I can't resist but that's what it takes to be Infinite (yeah)* literally have him a Sadomasochist and yet what does he do in his defeat after he began to be "stronger" since his backstory? Is sensitive and leaves like a coward, can't even make his final words actually memorable which makes a good villain, nobody wants a overly egotistical manchild as a villain.

I feel sorry for Wave after she got scolded and yelled at too. And like I said, Jet and Storm scolding and yelling at Wave sounds out-of-character for them. Usually, they care for Wave and share decent chemistry with her. But here, they're doing the exact opposite, which is belittling her. Poor girl.
I'm so glad that Frontiers fixed the problem of every character being just there... It made Tails, Amy and Knuckles actually matter. Not to mention that it has actual continuity towards every game in the franchise with some clever dialogue choices. Not to mention it criticizes the writing in the more modern games.
One of my worst colors era moments was in Sonic forces episode shadow. Not the whole episode but one moment in particular. It was cool to see team dark to be portrayed as comrades but the part that really triggered me was that shadow the hedgehog in my opinion is partly responsible for infinite taking a dark path into becoming this world war tyrant by not only calling infinite worthless but by coldly murdering the whole jackal squad. It wasn't stated directly but to Infinite they were the only people that he cares about like family. This is hinted by the fact that he sounded angry when he said "You... You destroyed my squad. I'll show you why they call me the ultimate mercenary! Take THIS!!". That showed that infinite actually cared about their well being.
That was until shadow had to act all dark and edgy and kill the members of the jackal squad in cold blood showing no hint of remorse and making infinite feel alone with no one to call family. And this makes shadow partly responsible for starting the whole war in sonic forces in one of the worst of out of character ways possible.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who not only despises Sonic Forces, but also up to the point where even Shadow’s DLC, like Infinite and the rest of the game itself, while it had potential, was executed in such atrocious ways like it just goes to show that Sega pretty much turned into how they made Tails in that game - a character (or in this case a company) who decided to give up on being valiant to the point of not being afraid of failure, yet failing because they just lost their care because they didn’t fight the negative influence the Sonic fandom had on them.
Infinite's backstory is completely inconsistent. At one point he is a mercenary that went rogue for some stupid reason because "world bad so I'm going to destroy world so no more world bad". At another he is a mercenary that got his ass kicked by Shadow, lost his mind in the most stupid and infantile way possible and then fuses with the Phantom Ruby. And then at another he is a biologic invention of Eggman made as a vessel for the Phantom Ruby thanks to what Tails and Amy stated.
There's 3 versions of Infinite's backstory but the game never states which one is the canonical one, I bring his backstory from the comic because that specific comic marketed itself as Infinite's origins. If Infinite's origin in the DLC is the correct one, then why he has such a hate for Sonic instead of Shadow? (Which might I add, he and Infinite don't have any interaction outside of the DLC), if the comic is the correct one, why does Infinite not attempt to betray Eggman and destroy the world himself? Since Eggman wants to conquer it, not destroy it.

What makes you think Shadow actually did that? Episode Shadow ended up being a canon acid trip where even Shadow had trouble making sense of what was real & what was illusion. For all we know the reason we get contradictions in Infinite's backstory is because the memories are fake & nothing more than another illusion in Infinite's insanity! Also the series is better off bringing back Infinite (Ian Flynn could probably do a great job salvaging him) than having random inclusions of Zavok.

A lot of people thought Colors was the end of the “dark ages.” They we’re all wrong. Sonic was always in the golden ages, and Colors was the beginning of Sonic becoming utterly stale and boring.
Technically, he was in a complicated state in the late 2000s thanks to games like Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic 06, and the rest was a variety of different directions like the storybook games and Unleashed. This is what I prefer to call the overly ambitious era of Sonic. Its heart is in the right place, but a lot of the attempts fell really short. Then you have Colors and onward, where the safe approach was fine at first, but it started to become evident how cynical yet tired the series was getting. Its heart is now in the wrong place.

@@zigzagintrusion The whole cat & mouse served to add a spin on 'Girl likes guy" trope (Sonic Boom just make it into a generic sitcom romance, which yeah was the point, but doesn't make it better), plus Amy acted as a foil to Sonic in a lot of ways. Adventure 1 Amy showcased more emotional intelligence than Sonic, while showing her love for him was simply the guy she admired for rescuing her. Now this isn't to say she shouldn't mature, because eventually she would have to, but I also think it makes her stick out. However, the whole "Frontiers matured" Amy thing doesn't sit well with me because it doesn't feel like they matured her at all, they completely changed her character. A random shift that happened in Lost World. And ever since this, while she has this calmer disposition, it comes at the expense of identity. Yeah, she's "mature", but why exactly is she mature? Because liking Sonic wouldn't be immature, but rather HOW she chooses to express that, Frontiers never once dives into this question of why Amy wants to change her focus from Sonic. that would've been more compelling, have Amy still like Sonic, but want to shift focus. She just sees the Koco's love and decides that's what she wants to do with no reference toward her infatuation toward Sonic.
I've found this to be a consistent problem since Lost World, it FEELS as if Amy is NEVER allowed to showcase raw emotion like anger, or love because Sonic Team wants to keep this image, she's "matured"(which is also regressive saying a female shouldn't be angry) so by having her do anything to ruin that will "ruin" their image of her. It feels as if this change came solely for damage control in response to negative feedback rather than organic transition. For as abrupt as Amy changed in IDW for some people, IDW at least bothers to make Amy showcase more emotion and shows she still likes Sonic, it's not afraid to show who she is, while acknowledging the person she HAS become and is able to express this in a more focused way. So I find it odd, how she can be more mature and playful in IDW, yet Frontiers presents this somber and calm persona just to say she's mature. So I'm asking myself, why should I care if she's mature if she's not giving a reason for it? Mature people can have emotions and react to things, they don't just keep the same tone consistently the entire time. It also baffles me because Frontiers isn't afraid to address Tails worst moments, even going as far as to reference Forces where the game is like 'yeah, here you goes Tails was garbage in this game' but instead of feeling ashamed they provide lip service in order to address the problem and continue to grow Tails. Whereas with Amy it comes off as her showing ANY emotion other than passive gestures is seen as wrong.
It feels as if her more subdued nature is more damage control than actual meaningful character progression. As in, they are so gung-ho about appealing to fan backlash about her previous persona that they think stripping away her character fixes it, when you don't improve a character by removing their character. That's like if Nintendo responded to the notion of Princess Peach being a Damsel in Distress decided to make her Samus Aran or Bayonetta, that's not improving a character, that's moving them too far in another direction. which is now the same problem Amy had before where she could have her character focus TOO much on Sonic, and have her other traits deemphasized, now it's just in reverse. it's like how people say the characters are no longer tropey, when every character are topes in a vacuum. and not just in Sonic.
In the 2010s and Frontiers I can't really define a single characteristic about Amy and the only thing ever highlighted about her is that she's female which is regressive. She doesn't even display a resemblance of character flaws. Amy doesn't have to be written the same way if they are going to write her away from that dynamic but being mature doesn't mean she shouldn't have a personality or flaws. (Amy doesn't express any character flaws anymore) Because acknowledging her flaws and allowing her to grow from them would've been better. Amy still feels like her personality just amounts to Girl. And while her compassionate side is emphasized, Amy was already that and I feel SA1 did a better job because it better characterized her and didn't expend her characteristics in the process. It also feels as if they are trying to write her too much like her Boom counterpart, which was established as her own character with the dynamic of the crush presenting a different perspective. Just with how she speaks and interacts feels that way, except ironically, she lacks the character even her Boom persona has, which makes her feel like a diet version of her.
As a side note, making her more like boom Amy isn't better because they were two different stablished characters, you don't improve a character by making them into another character. That isn't how that works. I always disliked how people acted as if their boom counterparts were one in the same or used them as if they represented the characters when they are different versions of them.
This is further compounded by Cindy's performance, in which Amy's emotional range is nonexistent, she just has the same boring and melodramatic tone the entire time, not sifting between emotion. I think the actress's performance also impacted my perception of her, there are lines that feel written to make her more upbeat, but the delivery is way too tame. Like even a more introverted girl could come up with phrases like that with that tone of voice. which again is not mature, mature people can have ranged emotions. Amy also sounds like a stereotypical female, whereas previously she had a distinct voice that highlighted the best and worst attributes about her. her adventure era giving more of an overly emotional pre-teen and the 4kids giving more emotional range. meanwhile when I hear her speak in frontiers, I don't sum it up as mature, I see it as generic woman voice which is not helped by the passive gestures she's given. even when Amy scolds Sonic, the emotion doesn't fit how she should feel.
At least when she was "annoying fangirl" you could give me a description of who she was. you are using descriptors to describe her. The fact I've ever seen anyone name a single identifiable trait of Modern Amy is proof that she has no character.
@@zigzagintrusion Amy's arc is great, the problem is that her character lacks character. She doesn't have any defined characteristics outside of being 'female'. She doesn't even have any character flaws or notable quirks.
What would have been stronger would have Amy's previous infatuation with Sonic brought up, because it feels as if she's never allowed to mention or bring it up, like SEGA's doing damage control based off the fact people complained about the character, so they just play it safe by making her calmer, which isn't really being mature, it just made her dull.
Amy shouldn't go back to the way she was obviously, but she should still show more character, in that she likes Sonic, but also wants to have priorities that don't relate to just him. Which yeah, her story does, but it comes at the cost of Amy lacking that distinct edge of character. Would've hit much stronger had she referenced her previous persona, using the koco as a reflection of that, then it made her come to that conclusion. Rather than just write her as a different character now, as she feels too much like her Boom persona, which was already an established character with distinct character. You don't make a character better by making them another character. That's like saying in order to make Princess Peach not a damsel she has to be Bayonetta or Samus Aran, it's too much in other direction.
it's pretty much the same Amy from lost world, only now she's just more melodramatic. It's also weird because the IDW comics do exactly what i want from Amy, her love for Sonic is shown from time to time, but her expressive, bubbly and kindhearted nature are her central character, alongside how she expressive liking Sonic. in Frontiers she feels like just 'Female, she likes love and is compassionate' which the latter was always apart of her character any way.

I don’t think the “colors era” is ever going to end. This is what Sega has decided they want Sonic the Hedgehog to be now. They’ve proven that they do not care at all about legitimately pleasing older fans, only tricking them into spending money with that trailer bait you were talking about.
I’d have to agree. Sega doesn’t really feel they need to try with this series anymore, which I’ve felt the most with the new trailer. They don’t need to sell us on a new game, just say it’s coming out and wait for people to eat it up.
If that’s what Sonic is now, just a marketable name…then I’m confident in saying that I’m not gonna be a fan of this series at that point. It’d only be filled with people repeating the same era talk and supporting Sonic going in a thousand different directions…rather than the one the developers originally intended.
The people in charge have BEEN in charge for a long time, and they just keep hiring people who... Are not fit for the job, so to say. They use Sonic's face to make money, but don't give a damn. I need to research this more, but a lot of their decisions as of late are making me feel like there might be some level of nepotism in the company...

I'm surprised there wasn't a spotlight on the fact that both Colors AND Lost World had Tails get "possessed" in a cutscene, only for it to be solved in the cutscene itself unsatisfyingly. Like, there's literally no point to those cutscenes. It's just disappointing that it ISN'T a boss fight. It's even worse in Lost World where it was not only the second time they pulled that garbage, but they even gave Tails a cyborg design that would've been so cool to fight.
I’m just gonna say it; I think that even when Tails was possessed in the early 2010s main Sonic games, he was still showing his true (recent) personality which is an immature, sulking, whiny, hormonal little child who played victim.
I have a feeling there were actual plans for that to be a boss battle but it got scrapped for whatever reason and they just used the cutscene and model bc they didn’t wanted to waste it, that’s my assumption

I guess I could call it my favourite game out of what I've played? (I'm sure there's better ofc). I've only ever played a few Sonic games: Sonic 3; Sonic Advance 3; Sonic Team Racing; The Mario and Sonic Olympic titles; one level of Sonic Unleashed when I was seven and Sonic Forces. I like Forces out of all of them since I enjoyed the avatar and modern Sonic's levels and Infinite had some good ol' edgy potential.
But there are plenty criticisms I have: the writing butchered Tails (my favourite character); the weird localisation touches like Sonic being tortured that literally had no weight in the plot; Classic's gameplay was finnicky and while Infinite had *potential*, it wasn't exactly used. So, maybe I could just call it my favourite game for now, until I can find some sort of port/emulator for Sonic Adventure.

Funny thing I noticed is that if Sega is so hell-bent on not making other characters playable again, they already figured out ways to play around it with Forces, in 2 ways no less!
1)Tag Team. Have one of Sonic's friends tag along to give you an extra platforming/exploration/combat ability without taking away from the key gameplay. Heck they already had some ideas in that line back in Generations with the co-op missions, why not expand on that?
2)Interacting with them not just in the story but in the levels themselves. We saw Infinite screw reality all around Capital City, what's stopping other characters from changing things around you as the level goes? Have Silver create a bridge out of falling debris, have Omega blow through a massive Death Egg Robot giving you an opening to go inside it, have the Chaotix set up an ambush and wipe out a group of enemies heading your way, who says only the villains can have all the fun?
If they're gonna include them, at least do something with them dangit.
To point 1, I'd just like to add that Sonic Advance 3 had teams with unique abilities per combination as well.
Maybe Forces was just their experiment? Their attempt at seeing what will work on the Switch.
Thank you! It is so irritating that people constantly hate on Sonic characters and call them "useless and annoying!" So Sega's way of resolving this is to shove them all to the sidelines and flanderize their personalities beyond recognition. However, all this does is, ironically, is make them even more annoying and useless than they ever were to begin with!
Just Sonic Mentality was a mistake that only served to make everyone feel useless. The Adventure Games had the right idea of letting you play as characters other than Just Sonic & the same can be said for the Advance Games. Balance is an important thing & Sonic isn't nearly as fun when we're forced to play as him & only him with gameplay that isn't as good as what we were getting long ago.
I remember looking up to Tails when I was a kid playing the adventure games.
What they've done to him makes me mad.

@Arion The Kid 2022, it's gonna be the start of the 4th decade. The end of the 3rd decade is the unpolished Colors remaster. In a way it's almost poetic to the lack of creativity of this decade, it ends right where the previous decade ended, almost like there's been no progress whatsoever.

Tails. being my favorite Sonic character, cutscene 5 in Sonic Forces hurt me. I liked him because he was intelligent and brave. He was only 8 and he could do these amazing things. I loved his positive attitude, like how he believed in himself (That’s literally what his theme song in Sonic Adventure was about). He was Sonic’s “guy in the chair”, but he still fought when he had to. But now, he’s become too dependent and cowardly, and it breaks my heart to see what Sega has done to him. I hope Frontiers serves him justice.
I sincerely hope that Colors Ultimate is the end of the Meta Era, I just hope that "Rangers" will use the correct tone (or even a better one).
Also, even if I didn't know you for long, I thank you so much for opening my eyes to the beauty and writing of Sonic games, and other franchises as well. I'm upset you're leaving, but I wish you the best of luck for the future!
@ArtBuffalo I agree. Even if their opportunities are endless, I'm still confused on how they're so blind to see the good in the bad and the bad in the good. If they just hired the right people with the right experience, they could nail it, but we're going to have to wait to see what's up for their future.
Man, you really ended it all with a bang! Honestly the Meta/Colors Era was the biggest disappointment, not just for me, but for any longtime fan. It's sad how the Nostalgia-driven escapade Sega & Sonic Team made after the bad press surrounding their past games eventually became nothing but a cheap gimmick, and in my opinion i think it hit harder on the story and characters than the gameplay and level design. It is true that it had some good moments (like you said in the previous top 10 list), and that most of the games were okay at best (with some exceptions), but man, the amount of negatives surrounding this era of Sonic pretty much surpass all the positives here. Flanderized characters, weak stories, and overall a complete disregard to what made the franchise so special in favor of cheap nostalgia pandering. It's been like this since 2010, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon.
At this point i'm no longer a Sonic fan, and i'm not even looking forward to whatever comes next, but i still watched this video because i like your content, in fact, you're one of the few SonicTubers i really like (along with Cybershell), and it's sad that this is your final video. i'll miss you a lot but i still wish you good luck with your future endeavours!

It really isn't. After all, what ultimately killed Archie Sonic? Ken Penders sued for the rights to his characters, leading to Archie gutting anything related to Ken Penders from their continuity as a result of their incompetence (fun fact: a comic character created for a company like Marvel, DC, and Archie usually belongs to that company afterwards, not the creator. Image Comics was born because the creators who founded it wanted full creative control and couldn't get that with Marvel for that very reason). The loss of most of the unique aspects of that version of Sonic had a negative effect on Archie Sonic despite Ian Flynn's best efforts to keep it afloat, ultimately resulting in its cancellation.
In other words, not only does the copyright law line make no sense in the context of Colors (and it really doesn't despite the set-up), it's also a blatant lie since copyright law did stop Sonic.

Deadass on point with Free Riders Amy. I know people seem to compare her a lot to her Adventure portrayals to show how much she was ruined up to that point, but I don't think anybody seems to realize how much Free Riders Amy also botched Riders Amy's reputation as a whole. In the original Riders, Amy stood up for Tails when Wave insulted him and throughout the story, she was very supportive of Team Sonic. Furthermore, she also had an attitude of her own, going out her way to lash out at Sonic for whenever he screws up or did something that upset her, or in Zero Gravity when she was chased by Storm, being this somewhat intimidating and scary brute in her eyes, in which she threw the Ark of the Cosmos at him and ordered him around as if she's now his new boss. It's moments like these that make Amy seem like a living breathing character with actual feelings. Free Riders seemed to have looked through her "attitude" moments, seeing them as her most defining characteristic in those games, and doubled down on them. It really just depends on the context, and having Amy berate Cream publicly who was seemingly supposed to be kinda her little sister in a way for literally no reason, yeah, it seems completely uncalled for and OOC for her. And that also seems to be the recurrent theme for all these Colors-era games. The writers only look up what each of the characters' defining traits are, and just dial them up to eleven. I've always been afraid to criticize the Studiopolis voice cast due to their history with taking things to heart as well as overly-harsh fans going out their way to harass them, but I just can't stress enough how absolutely dreadful the voice direction for these characters has been for the past decade. Every single character seems to act like self-aware parodies of themselves (looking directly at you Boom), and if they're not acting as self parodies, they're dull, lacking any distinct personality and are there just to make bad jokes. Even though I personally think Amy's Boom/LW/Forces/TSR and IDW portrayals are much worse due to how much they represent Amy's current identity or in this case, lack there of, I still can never forgive Free Riders and Generations for tarnishing Amy's reputation for the worse, which then lead to SEGA/Sonic Team "maturing" her character from then on, to the point where she's just as interesting as a stale loaf of bread.
I've seen so many people trying to defend the "new" Amy by saying that fans and critics alike were going around so much of how she needed to be more independent and less clingy which then lead to SEGA/Sonic Team supposedly responding to this backlash, and how people like myself need to accept the fact that this is SEGA's decision as to how they handle Amy now. It reminds me a lot of how people constantly bring up the "B-but Sonic '06!" excuse for the 14th millionth time to completely shut Adventure/Dark age fans down. But furthermore, this to me just resembles one thing I know about SEGA, and it's that they're a multi-billion dollar company in the public eye, and like all corporations and companies out there, they'll always do everything in their power to act on any feedback given to them, even if it means contradicting whatever their stance was from yesterday. How Sonic as a brand is perceived will be the top high priority to them, so in order to play it safe, they'll be sure to remove any risk of negative perception or stigma they had in the past as quickly as you can finish saying "Gotta Go Fast!". This to my and many other people's annoyances is the biggest blunder to this whole affair. The characters and stories they've built upon for years are now warped and shaped to the point where they can no longer stand on their own. I don't actually see the Colors-era coming to a close anytime soon, as the release of Rise of the Wisps, Colors Ultimate and even more recently the Twitter Takeover, just solidifies my statement. Even though Cindy has seemingly left the role as Amy, I sadly don't think that SEGA/Sonic Team will hire back Lisa Ortiz or anybody that could pull off a similar sounding voice to Amy's first two voice actresses, they'd probably see that era of how Amy was written as pure cringe. It would've been nice to hear Lisa voicing my favorite pink gal again. After all, she has expressed numerous times in the past how Amy was one of her favorites roles to provide voice work for, and she has appeared in the Sonic and Tails R fan radio drama, which ironically has more love put into these characters and lore than any of the games made by the actual developers and creators these days. It's not uncommon to see fans going around saying how much they love Lisa's Amy and how much they want her back.
It caught me by surprise that you're leaving the channel, but it's a decision I support. You've entered into the RUclipsr analysis scene wanting to face all the retroactive backlash surrounding the stigma Sonic has in the 2000s, and I think you've said pretty much everything you wanted to say and everything people like myself wanted to say but couldn't as we were either too shy or didn't have the means to do so. I still remember stumbling upon your Amy analysis for the first time and eventually working my way down through the entire playlist, as I agree with pretty much everything you've said in them. Even characters like the Babylon Rogues that I was completely ambivalent towards, were given such justice that made me reconsider my stance on the trio and wanting to give the Riders series a go someday. You came in wanting to remind everyone why people used to care about these characters so much and not only you did your job perfectly, but I think those last two videos on the best/worst Colors era moments were the perfect way to send off your 2 year-long channel with a bang, or in this case, a Sonic Boom. Kinda speaks volumes how this video has garnered almost twice as many views as your Best Colors era moments one, doesn't it?

(I promise this is relavent) One of my favorite lines from Shadow is often overlooked. In Sonic Adventure 2, during the final boss fight Sonic and Shadow often talk to each other during it. One of Shadow's lines he can say during it is "Sonic...! I think I've discovered what the ultimate lifeform is! It might be you!" Because this plays during a boss fight it's not a very well known line, but like, he was literally GIVING UP THE TITLE THERE FOR SONIC. RIGHT THERE. And in the modern games his entire personality is acting like he's above sonic when he LITERALLY SAID THAT
To be fair there was the amnesia thing after that, but then again when you consider how he acted with Sonic in 06 it doesn't make sense he'd be like that today.

The characterization has been BAD for the last decade, but god, hearing Amy blatantly insult Cream like that physically hurt me.
Suddenly, Cream's absence from Team Sonic Racing makes perfect sense. Vanilla doesn't want Cream to hang around Amy anymore if she's going to treat her like that on live TV. She only went to Sonic's birthday party for Sonic's sake and to spend time with Blaze.

from izuka's interviews, the franchise getting ridiculously dumb, childish and lazy was no accident. it was purposeful from the beginning. he wants to sell the game to 3 to 5 year olds so making great level designs, lots of gameplay and well-crafted stories isn't worth it as it's easier to push something mediocre that they catch with their teeth. after all, sonic is fast it's funny.....yeah. you who expect something well done in "Sonic rangers" I think it's better not to expect anything
Considering the stuff Pokémon gets away with (death, war, slavery, etc) while still being marketed to kids (moreso than Sonic tbh), it's pretty obvious the "for kids" argument is BS!
It's a shame some folks have been brainwashed into accepting: Marketed for kids = minimum effort/content.

The worst one of them all was the interview where Iizuka blatantly disregard us Adventure fans by saying that SA3 would “step the franchise back”. Yet, that’s exactly what all these meta era games have done. The over-reliance on Genesis era nostalgia, Classic Sonic, 2D sections in 3D games, constantly shoving those stupid Wisps down our throats, complete lack of character development, etc. Smh. My god, Iizuka’s a fuckin' hypocrite. SA3 would in fact move the series forward. But only if it’s made by passionate Adventure era fans.

*I want Sonic Adventure 3 to be made by passionate fans of the Adventure era.
*I want it to retcon the meta era (Mania can stay however), and pick up where Unleashed and Black Knight left off.
*Of course the gameplay has to be on point, and NOT RUSHED!
*I want Shiro Maekawa back as the head writer.
*I want a good chunk of the Adventure voice cast back for their roles. They especially need to bring back Ryan Drummond as the voice of Sonic.

Nah, Sonic Forces Cutscene #5 wasn't just one of the lowest points in the Colors era, it was _THE_ lowest point in the entire franchise.
Also, I know it's not a part of the Colors era, but I need to get this off my chest.
In a cutscene in Sonic Unleashed, Tails is surrounded by four Nightmares, two Deep Nightmares and a Titan. And while he was able to defend himself, It is totally understandable why he would fly away instead. These were new enemies, and he was outnumbered.
Meanwhile in Forces, there was absolutely no excuse for cowering in fear at Chaos 0.
I would rather rewatch Elise kissing Sonic back to life, because at least it didn't nullify YEARS of character development!

The meta era has a lot of bad things, if it's not the writing, it's the aesthetic, the characters or gameplay, and in many respects, I wish Colors Ultimate is the last game from this era, I have no hope for Rangers but I wish Sega proves me wrong and gives us a game worth remembering because taking Generations off the equation, there's nothing iconic or worth remembering about this era, fans of these characters had the short end of the stick (as an Amy fan, I know how it feels), the level design has been simplified, the world has been babyfied, and the stories are worse, it's all "zoomie hedgie dashing like a maniac and doing kindergarden jokes" now and no iconic mascot should aspire to that to be like Mario, because Mario is also more than "funny ya hoo man collecting coins".
I have a disdain for Sonictubers that only intensified with the leaks of Sonic Rangers and the constant clickbait videos, but you are amazing and nothing like them, I hope that whatever you plan on doing next, you find success.

Sonic Adventure showed us the logical maturation of Tails from little kid tagging along with Sonic to full-fledged member of team Sonic who could carry his own weight. It showed fans (and especially gamers who had older siblings) that they could emerge out of big brother's (or big sister's) shadow.

Your breakdown of that tails scene had me smiling. I really needed to hear somebody apologetically taking apart that scene without making sure not to step on any (apologies) tails. I highly understand the importance of being sensitive and putting up a wall so that people don't get hurt, but also I want to be able to apologetically look at the bad sometimes.

THANK YOU for ripping into Colors era Tails. Tails has always been my favorite character in the entire franchise and throughout the whole 2010s they did him SO DIRTY. I think this trend actually started in Unleashed but Pontaff should never touch his character again. Tails is actually supposed to be a badass, and like you said, a kid you can look up to.
In the defense of Unleashed, that segment with the Dark Gaia monsters could be chalked up to him not knowing what he was fighting.
@@sambridgers9543 It could, but the issue is that it wasn't shown. Just like how some people use the "Generations split the timeline" to explain Classic Sonic now being from another dimension, we can't claim that was the intent if it wasn't shown. While I do like Unleashed, I have to agree it's where the sidelining of the cast started, but it only got worse rather than improving.

@@MegaGlassguy To be fair, I think the smaller cast worked in the favor of Unleashed, as '06 had more focus on Shadow as the protagonist than Sonic, so I could see why they decided to go this route. It was a breath of fresh air that became stale in subsequent games.

SEGA better not hire any more hack writers like Pontac and Graff, who know jack shit about the series, the characters and/or the lore. That's the primary reason for the godawful writing and characterizations throughout the Meta Era. Just watching these out of character moments because of Pontac and Graff's incompetence makes me cringe. This decade (2010 - 2021) really has been awful for the series. The pressure's all on the upcoming 2022 Sonic game to change the series for the better or make it even worse.

Sonic Heroes knew how to balance Amy chasing Sonic with talking and motivating her teammates.
When she says "But I'm supposed to be the one exception" about Sonic not holding back makes me eye roll, Amy wanted to improve because she wants Sonic to not slow down for her, she wants to be an equal.
God, I hate Free Riders Amy, it makes my favorite girl look horrible.

She enjoys chasing Sonic, take a look at the end of Heroes she enjoys when he runs away. Her whole reason to get stronger was to impress him. The writers are so bad they screwed up Amy's entire reason for liking Sonic.

If they gave us the ability to fight Mecha Tails in Lost World, it could make sense why he is a fearful kid in Forces. Getting turned into a part machine, and then fighting your friend, cant be good for your self confidence.
