Minimal OnStep on FYSETC S6 with WiFi and TMC2130

  • In this video, I am showing how the FYSETC S6 3D printing board can be used for OnStep in a minimal configuration, with WiFi. The drivers used are the TMC2130 SPI, which are suitable for most setups.

    flashing the fysetc s6 v2 is simple; with no power to the board.. jumper on boot pins close to usb > power on(19v 4a.. adviced from Khalid and it worked for me) and check stm32 cubeprogrammer if it's in dfu mode > upload using arduino ide > when done uploading power off before going into boot mode again> take off boot jumper.

    Khalid, thanks for the videos! I just started looking at onstep and was wondering if this configuration can work with ascom through USB?

      Yes. There is an ASCOM driver that you can download from Howard Dutton's site. He is the author of OnStep.

    Hi Khalid, this is great setup, but is there a way to adapt guiding? Also are there detailed instructions anywhere far as setup, flashing and optional alternatives to the connections used for the stepper motors such as RJ45? Also would this be a better performing system compared to the Bluepill setup? Thank you sir for your contribution to this project.

    HI Khalid, I am ready to flash my board but wanted to makes sure about the irun configuration. Should it be in Amps or milliamps? Config.H looks like it is asking for mA. I have TMC5160 drivers so I need to input the value. Thanks for any help Khalid!!!!

      The IRUN and IGOTO are all in milliamps.

    Hi Khalid,
    Great video. I am planning to make one using wWemos D1 R32 and CNC system and my gear is a reflector ota+dslr weighing upto 7.5 kg on an EQ5 MOUNT. Could you please suggest which NEMA17 STEPPER MOTOR should I select for the setup. I see different specifications with different load capacities. May I also request you to suggest how to configure a 200 step (1.8 deg) stepper motor and what should be the GR1 and GR2 in the Onstep config generator (my gears are 16t and 60t pulleys for both axes). Thanks in advance.

      The Wemos R32 has too many special cases and limitations. If you use it for a basic system (only two motors), it may be sufficient, but you have to follow the instructions very carefully.
      For questions on the R32, please ask in the OnStep group because I don't use it.

    Hi khalid, I read somewhere that the v2.0 board may not work is that true? It is all I can find online right now.

      The FYSETC S6 V2.0 board definitely works. I use one myself for my mount.
      Go to the OnStep Wiki. All the info is there.
      But you have to careful with the jumper that says USB/DC, and set it to only DC, which means an external power supply is needed when you flash it.
      The USB setting on that jumper was not confirmed to be the cause of one or two cases of the board dying, but using the DC setting makes it safe, just to be sure.

      Thanks Khalid for the quick reply!! I just ordered the board and I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Now i'll have to see how I do with setting up the Config file and flashing the board. I don't think My board will be here for another month though.

      While you are at it, order 2 x TMC2130 (SPI version only) or 2 x TMC5160, as well as a Wemos D1 Mini. That should get you started.
      For the Config.h file, just use my Online Configuration Generator, and it will create a basic file for you.

      Thanks again Khalid! I ordered the 5160's , motors, wemos D1 mini, weather sensor and GPS. I am looking forward to trying it!

      I don't use the weather sensor, but others do. Note that it has to be the SPI version and not the I2C one. Also, it has to be a BME280 not BMP280.

    what ac dc adapter do you recommend for this setup with 2 0.9 nema 17's

      It depends on what you have connected. For example, what current are the motors, do you have a focuser motor too, dew heaters, ..etc.
      For me, with just two motors and one dew heater, I use a laptop power supply that is 19V and 4A. Works well.

      @@khalid_ba hi Khalid.. im flash the s6 v2 as follows concerning the jumpers.. boot jumper on 2pins close to usb.. usb jumper on usb5v and 5v.. disconnect usb from pc after flashing and take off boot jumper.
      after flashing where do you leave the jumper from usb5v-5v-dc5v?
