**ok, so you need every variation of url including the https part ** tried for nearly half a day to get dns block to work, works for ping but chome and firefox still connect, am on debian, why is it still able to connect?
Strange. Louis Rossman talked about Eli and I saw a guy talking about the world. Now he shifted and he talks about things I've always wanted to know about. You say he's back but maybe it was good he took a U-turn. Not sure I'd be here if he didn't.
Welcome Back the Eli we know and the voice we like. You laterally took me back 7 years ago with that voice tone :D when I used to watch the ELI we all love.
One of the best presenters for IT that I have found. These recordings are immensely helpful for learning and reviewing topics I explore in my post secondary.
Great video. This is one area a lot of people overlook in a an overall good security posture. Rerouting, deleting, reflection attacks, tunneling etc; all happen within DNS. A simple but extremely vital part of our more secure and private lives that more people are trying to live.
i love your videos Eli , your videos helped get me through my cancer and chemo back in 2013 to 2015. i of course still watch and enjoy them today and will continue to do so.
Elie, I am glad that you have returned to that type of content! I want you to know that you are really good at this. Me, personally speaking, have watched a lot of your old videos, about Networks, Servers and IT in general. With the knowledge I gained from your content, I managed to go to a local IT course, then get a certificate and now I work as a System Administrator. 3-4 years ago I only knew how to use google and youtube on a computer, quite literally. So keep it going, you really are good at what you are doing, and you know how to explain complex concepts understandably !
I like the recordings after since they are more focused and as you mentioned presenting it to the video after stepping through the seminar live can help raise additional clarification points to pass along. Much appreciated.
FINALLY !!!! No more whinging and whining about RUclips, people not watching your videos, or just time wasting videos. This video was fantastic, extremely informative, interesting, with great easy to follow explanations. I learnt more in this 1 + hour video on DNS and security than i did in my paid for course, Cert 4 in computer systems. I am loving seeing you back are doing what you do best, making good solid informative IT videos. Please keep them coming. THE REAL ELI IS BACK !!!!!
One of the best presentations to be recommended to those who are interested in DNS Privacy. Thanks you for @Eli for sharing the concepts along with a few open questions
hahahha "If you don't want your ISP tracking you, you can use Google DNS" He couldn't even say it with a straight face. Great, honest video. Appreciate it.
Eli, did you delete all your non tech videos? Honestly, I'm a pizza delivery guy, and those videos help me get through a lot of my shifts. I think you did the right thing. Much respect. That must've been hard. But I see you're focused and all into silicon dojo. Don't listen to these haters. Even if you don't make as much money as you'd prefer, I'm sure you'll still be quite successful with this endeavor. I would love to come visit one day. Love from nyc.
Thank you for posting this! I'm looking forward to more educational videos! I'm relatively new to the I.T. World and coming across your channel has been exceedingly helpful!
The part about getting the dns from the .com .it .tech ..etc. Is not really mentioned in other videos. Good job Eli! This is something I will use just to train and fill the dns entries for a month or two. Probably using a VPN to the authoritative servers. Then switch it to normal dns using cloud-flare, after I think I hit enough of the websites. DNS is usually where I see security fails. Wildly.. understated.. as something you NEED to do for security! Or use a VPN with good DNS and no DNS leaks. But hell ya! Love to get that from the actual source.. I'll be doing that soon!
I linked a few of your videos to some of the guys who are trying to setup "Do it yourself" IP cams and running into basic networking roadblocks....subnets, DNS, etc. etc..
Hi, Eli, Thanks a lot for explaining. Due to lockdown since last year, I was bored, and start researching about privacy and security more. I learned a lot from your videos. Also added it on my blog site, so more people will benefit from your videos.
Thank you Eli Where i was learning network basis you were doing a lot of videos When I start learning cyber security You started again your teaching Really awesome thank a lot
German Youth Protection is a German Federal Law, that governs things like Identification when going into bars, or Movie theaters to protect Youth from being able to Drink or watch Movies not meant for their age. It also moderates medial content including web content trough a Government Agency, that can Censor German Websites if it deems them inappropriate for consumption.
Useful to know: Configuration of DNS can take place on three levels: 1) on the local machine (in the host files) 2) on the Router/Modem 3) on Google DNS servers (e.g. 8.8.8.8)
This is what I needed...The DNS THING...AS A OVER.....VIEW...I..LOVED THIS....." DO MORE...PLEASE".:-).. ON THE SAME SUBJECT..."BUT..TO CLARIFY"...I'D..PAY FOR..THAT...NOT KIDDING!!!"..LOVED IT!!!:-)
PI hole doesn't stop your ISP from snooping your DNS traffic even if you point it to another DNS server. It is possible to setup pi-hole with DNS over HTTPS. DNS will be encrypted across the network.
Nice to see you again eli. Comment here if i get this right this is my own opinion. Dns is a server that takes a dns query and gives you back the ip address of that host or domain name or it resolves the ip address of that domain name or hostname. we can use wireshark and see how dns works. if we use the c programming language or any low level languages and we need to get to like google.com we need to resolve the ip address in order to connect to it through sockets.
Ok, ok so far i got DNS "Do Not eat at Subway" and Cybersecurity is that ding dong sound you hear when walking thru the door :) I really like these videos it looks like the finger painting board they lets us use if we are good and take our meds :)
Depending on your sector, there are some free state sponsored services for reverse DNS. Sometimes even the small business sector can take advantage of as overall community focused security has inherent value.
Pay attention folks, a guy talking about cyber-security opens up by telling us why he didn't record the live presentation: people act differently when they think they are being recorded.
Great content btw. I'll finish the silicon dojo playlist while I'm doing my run. I use cloudfare as my DNS to get fast and cheaper service for small town website I run.
The security field has been the hardest to actually study for. It seems that information on standard procedures are not 100% or are not yet created. not to mention new threats popping up everyday, it becomes almost impossible deal with all security threats.
Though it is a field that really interests me. I would love to see it expand in the future and hopefully more technology professionals decide to specialize
Eli I think I have that exact Hisense TV... I have a question.... On mine, it seems to tilt backwards slightly. Does yours do this? even on the floor, ruling out the desk being uneven...
This seems like it was geared towards Network Administrators, but then failed to address what administrators could do too prevent employees on their network from bypassing their DNS rules. One could do a number of things such as (1) IP Destination Blocking for known DNS servers (except for the one the local DNS is configured to use), and (2) Port Forwarding to simply redirect the googles and such too OpenDNS (or whatever you want it to go); and/or one could not worry about DNS servers and instead use Web Filter software at the router that allows the administrator to block known categories of websites like Violence, Hate, Cults, Drugs, Nudity, Weapons, Malware Sites, Bot Nets, Keyloggers, etc., etc., etc.
P.S. I don't trust TOR either, information out there as to why not to trust this service completely. Opinion backed by data which is why I feel comfortable saying this outloud. Haha
Nice video. Using Pi-Hole with Upstream DNS configured to use OpenDNS. Best I can do for family. Also keeping track of the individual computer's DNS settings (Dad has to have access anytime he wants or Kids get cut off)
PLEASE like, share, comment, subscribe, etc... and make sure to come to a class if you're in Asheville NC.
Why didn't you post this video to silicon dojo channel?
You are Eli the computer GUY
Now Milk that cow my mann
Great videos man, keep em coming 😁
Living in Australia may make the last bit too hard, but keep these videos up please.
**ok, so you need every variation of url including the https part **
tried for nearly half a day to get dns block to work, works for ping but chome and firefox still connect, am on debian, why is it still able to connect?
finally, eli has returned to greatness.

Nice!! Eli The Computer Guy is Back!!!
Yeah nice to see him not just whining about the news.
The best

Dude, you are now re-born. Really happy to see you being the good old Eli whom I used to learn from during my initial days as "Rookie Techie".

Gosh, I really miss Eli’s IT videos man, this is great content, and honestly, it’s much better than most IT vids out there.

Finally Eli is back making Tech Videos we subscribed for.
I agree 2000%
hahahha "If you don't want your ISP tracking you, you can use Google DNS" He couldn't even say it with a straight face. Great, honest video. Appreciate it.
Would love to see more of these. Great to see the basics gone over in a way that's not dry and mundane.
I have missed these type of ELI videos! Exciting to see this notification. Looking forward to hopefully this becoming a more regular thing

So nice to seeing you get back to Computer stuff again. Your old videos started me off when I got interested in networking
Want your more tutorial on IT as you did before.

Eli😁😁😁 Real IT returns to RUclips. Welcome back good Sir. Blessings to you.
Good webinar Eli and waiting for more like this
Great content! Eli is weirdly good at explaining stuff

Don't forget that the PC will look to its DNS cache *before* looking to the HOSTS file.
Eli we need more tech videos... ♥️
I learned stuff today i should've known years ago, Thank you Eli
I linked a few of your videos to some of the guys who are trying to setup "Do it yourself" IP cams and running into basic networking roadblocks....subnets, DNS, etc. etc..
Thank you Mr. Eli, hope to see IoT contents as well. This is very helpful for those subscribers outside N.C. and overseas.
Good to see you again, Eli. Been a watcher since 2012.
Hi, Eli, Thanks a lot for explaining. Due to lockdown since last year, I was bored, and start researching about privacy and security more. I learned a lot from your videos. Also added it on my blog site, so more people will benefit from your videos.

You have been missed Señor Eli. Great as always.
سلام خوش حال شدیم از دیدن شما شما شما ........ thanks a lot......
Thank you man, after this I changed my router DNS from cloudfare's private DNS and now I can access porn without using vpn and more.
Very happy to see you back educating us again
Useful to know:
Configuration of DNS can take place on three levels:
1) on the local machine (in the host files)

its been a long time since Eli released a video like this
"Hot moms in you area" is the only acceptable ad on any website.
Eli is back. Spotted this video on my feed with 45K views.
Back to the game my big teacher, get greetings from Africa, Angola.
This is what I needed...The DNS THING...AS A OVER.....VIEW...I..LOVED THIS....." DO MORE...PLEASE".:-).. ON THE SAME SUBJECT..."BUT..TO CLARIFY"...I'D..PAY FOR..THAT...NOT KIDDING!!!"..LOVED IT!!!:-)
A bit to simple to say we are scared of tracking cookies in Europe. It is part of a larger movement about securing your privacy online.
Eli! Thank you for putting this up!! Good to see you ! ! ! !
Would definitely come over if I lived in Asheville.. Eli seems knowledgeable enough to be able to teach the real tech as well, like graphics cards..
Welcome back . We always ask where is this guy
PI hole doesn't stop your ISP from snooping your DNS traffic even if you point it to another DNS server. It is possible to setup pi-hole with DNS over HTTPS. DNS will be encrypted across the network.

thought the Eli guy wasn't making YT videos any more? happy to see him back.

Back to basics and why worked on RUclips good for you Eli one engineer to another
Man im happy to see you are back to doing videos like this
Depending on your sector, there are some free state sponsored services for reverse DNS. Sometimes even the small business sector can take advantage of as overall community focused security has inherent value.
Eli knows how to best describe things about IT, thank you for your clear defination
Man I missed these basic class videos so much
the more important question... did you utilise all of your chairs?
Good to see your back with these trainings. Keep it up!
We miss u, sir. And if possible make Digital Forensics course, please.
God bless u.
You've been out for so long. Welcone back.
I knew most of this but it was still excellent and its worth watching just for a refresher.
Pay attention folks, a guy talking about cyber-security opens up by telling us why he didn't record the live presentation: people act differently when they think they are being recorded.
the more advertising on a website , means more bad content , you dont need ads if write good stuff , and you attract people by the content created
Constructive criticism, you should add timestamps :) Great video!
Great content btw. I'll finish the silicon dojo playlist while I'm doing my run. I use cloudfare as my DNS to get fast and cheaper service for small town website I run.
Welcome Back Eli The Computer Guy
Well come back , Eli as Always an Excelent Teacher

Dig the new silicon dojo deal. Just an FYI, it's not redirecting to HTTPS.
Nice vid without the awful opinions! Thanks Eli!

OpenDNS is a great layer to add, sadly the cost is quite high for commercial use as it comparable to an anti-virus seat.
the future of DNS in the blockchain, away from the corporate mob
The issue with DNS leakage in Tor has been fixed long ago, now all the DNS resolutions are done in the Tor exit nodes.
Please return to do more technical videos like you did in the past, and just like this one!
Great video, simple yet informative explanation. Thank you for sharing your knowledge good Sir.
P.S. I don't trust TOR either, information out there as to why not to trust this service completely. Opinion backed by data which is why I feel comfortable saying this outloud. Haha
the OG if IT, man, you rock!
amazing refresher hard to believe stuff like this on youtube is free

I saw this thumbnail as a suggestion and thinking it was a vid from 10 years ago until a saw the date. Déjà vu for sure.
😅😅😂seriously i was like what!!?? this thumbnail looks familiar?! then i saw cybersecurity in the title i said Eli is back!!!
Thank you Eli, as always fantastic work!!
HE HAS RETURNED!!! LIGHT THE FIRES!
This is next step I love it. Keep it up we need it.
I love you so much Mr. Eli, you helped me and learned me seince i was bigenner, thank you
