Before my Leica M6, I shot with a Contax G1 with 21/45/90mm lenses. I liked the G1 lens kit so much that when I purchased my M6, I also purchased 21/35/90mm lenses. My G1 came with an accessory 21mm viewfinder. I use the Contax 21mm viewfinder on my M6.
Darryl, thank you for another great practical overview of a good lens. There is a rangefinder with 21mm frame lines, it's the Voigtländer BESSA R4A or R4M. They both have 21mm, 25mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm frame lines natively.
I like mine, f1.5 isnt super useful though its so soft and glowy. Stopped down a half stop really cleans things up. tbh I wish they would have just made it a f/1.8 and it could have been a bit smaller.
Hi Joseph, its not the sharpest lens at f/1.5 and you are right if you stop it down a Hal or full stop the lens gets sharper. Will talk about this in my side by side video with the Voigtalnder
Darryl…on my copy of this lens the lens hood screws on with the cut-out for the rangefinder on the bottom…opposite of where it should be. I use the lens on a mirrorless camera…SL2…because of this. Thanks for your great videos.
Interesting vid, as usual. Strange vid quality. Looks like shot on green screen. The dof so thin that I become dizzy when focus lost on moving fingers. Cap looks painted on, zero shadows. Might be youtube downsampling, though.
I used the 50mm f/1.2 EF lens on the R3, which is the same lens I use on the C70, this was shot at f/5. The video does look much sharper from the R3, to me it looks a little to sharp, will have to dial it back a little in the menu, thanks for the input on my the video quality.
This lens would work wonders with my M8, but I am not sure about the size (and length!) I have the Voigtlander 21mm f4 and love it because it is super sharp and tiny. Great video as always!
@@DarrylCarey So it keeps straight lines straight across the frame? At 21mm only other lens I know can do this is the 20mm f4 CZJ Flektogon... have you got any architectual samples at all?
The video looks all right to me. That said, I can't see a difference between the R3 and C70, in terms of colour or clarity. Perhaps that is how it should be; there should be a colour match across both systems. I did notice that the video is a tad dark, perhaps your lighting is off today? Yes, please do the comparison with the real Leica lens .
Nice video, did you end up keeping this and how does it hold up to the voigtlander? I'm on the fence about this or the small voight 21mm f3.5 since sharpness at 1.5 doesn't sound great.
Please do a side-by-side comparison of the 21 voigtlander and ttartisan! Great videos btw :)

voigtlander r4m and r4a cameras I believe have 21mm frame lines.
Thanks Robert, just looking on Ebay now 😉

Nice!
A comparison between the two lenses would be interesting!
Should have that video up in a couple of weeks
the voigtlander bessa r4m and r4a have a 21mm frame lines
I have both the Voigtlander 21mmf4 Color Skopar ltm and 25mm f4 Snapshot Skopar ltm. Beautiful small and crisp lenses.
I would like to see a comparison between this lens and the voigtlander 21mm!

heyhey- based on your video I bought the TT! Would be amazing to see a comparison with the Voightlander though... If you have time! cheers

esp the 28mm framelines will work perfectly with this lens. I have the VL21F4 too, but almost never use it... might try the TTArtisan
Great video the TTA 21 looks like a good buy especially if you only use 21mm every now and again.Comparison would be nice if you have the time.Cheers.
Will work on the video next week
can you adapt it on a fujifilm xpro3?
.58 m6 will give you the 21 lines, and I think one or two voigtlanders had them too?
Edit: I am wrong
Hi Chandler, I have the m6 TTL 0.58 and I only have 24mm Frame-lines
@@DarrylCarey Oop my mistake you’re right. I’ve only ever had .72 copies.
You can also just buy an 21mm external viewfinder to use with any Leica M
How is distortion across the frame? Suitable for interiors and architecture shots?
Very low distortion, this is the same lens that was used in the new @topgun movie for the cockpit shots

@@DarrylCareywhat? is this true? This 200ish lens was used in top gun movie? 😮
@@polaris8126 I think it's most likely to be the Voightlander 21 1.8
What happened to the leica MP?
Its still in the box😭..... not had a chance to use it yet

I miss the video tools you get with the C70, would have been nice if the R3 had waveform but yes maybe the lighting is about a stop or half out 👍

Yes!
The upload makes you sound like a chipmunk.
What speed are you playing at🤣
@@DarrylCarey Just checked it. Normal speed. LOL
