I would actually say that you guys didn’t do enough of what this vehicle is meant for. The paddle shifters in sport mode lets you shift through the gears. If you want the Explorer to take care of performance focused gear changes though, it can do that to. Example: if you brake hard suddenly in sport mode, the car will downshift anticipating you will be going through a corner. This will allow you to take advantage of the Intelligent4WD, which when detecting high speed cornering, will cut power to the inside wheels and put it all to the outside wheels to help eliminate under steer. And while it’s AWD system seems like it is just wannabe Range Rover, it actually does a pretty good job. When it snowed last year I went down a road covered in snow, and the Explorer acted like it was driving on pavement. It was only when I switched it to sand mode and floored it while turning that it broke traction and it actually drifted instead of spinning out. This vehicles driving characteristics are actually impressive giving its price. However, the interior looks boring, and as you guys pointed out, the carbon fiber is obviously fake. I also think the steering wheel doesn’t fit for being a performance vehicle. Lastly, while a V8 would be great, one would not fit, as that EcoBoost barely does, making it a pain to work on.
DeOndré Anderson you have the option to turn your dlr’s off on the sport and they look just like the cops lol I have people slow down and move over every once in a while and I wonder if they think I’m a cop!
My parents loved it. The Platinum is the gem here as the interior quality matches that of a X5 or GLE. Then there is the powertrain, where that 3.5L twin turbo is amazing when you floor it. It still doesn't match a Range Rover or XC90 in its quality or drive, but you are paying ~$15k less.
I had 2014 explorer sport with 48k when I bought it...it was fast as all get out with the twin turbos. But the problems it had was a complete nightmare. I only had it 3 weeks driving time out of 2 months of owning it. The rest of the time was in the shop. Beautiful tuxedo black paint, gorgeous black leather interior and every bell and whistle to date. Drive fast lane of the freeway was hilarious. Problem was I was third owner of the car so who knows what it went through. Turns out it was a flood car, so the transfer case fluid had turned to gel, the rear end was about the same and burnt to a crisp, the transmission fluid was on it's way out and shifting problems. As careful as I tried to be inspecting it myself I finally took it to a mechanic and they found the problems right away and promptly said it should be totalled as it was in a flood. No smell...no mold...looked nice. This was the second one the dealer had sent to me. The first one had tranny issues as well and low miles. So be careful, they don't have a long life expectation either with the twin turbos but man are they fun to drive....😉 Going for a Lexus GS 350 instead!
I think these midrange sporty SUV’s are a perfect segment to make it a daily driver/fun vehicle. Living here in a New York the ground clearance is necessary for snowy winters or just for anything these streets can throw at you. It’s also nice that it’s not necessarily a gas guzzler and gives a decent sporty performance when you want to have some fun. Having the space is also nice for whenever necessary. So I don’t think this is just a family hauler and it’s great companies are putting these vehicles out that hit the sweet spot
Glad to see a new partnership. You now know so many possible mistakes that can be made so i feel like this one will be so much better than the last one 💪
“If I want to bring my double bass string instrument...” I love taking corners with my bass inside my mazdaspeed 3, so if I wanted a sporty suv, driving dynamics would play a large part.
Savage Grace 6 secs is really not good for a 365 hp vehicle, no matter how big it is. I know BMW is leagues ahead of ford, but my X5, which is down 65 horsepower and one turbo from the explorer is .2 secs faster to 60.
I have an 03' Explorer sport . The last year they rolled out the 2drs. Its dropped on staggered 20"s, and mild performance upgrades. It feels like a "Sport"
Come on now that's just blasphemy! The "murdered out" look is awesome! Black badges, black taillights, black tint and some black wheels would be nice. What are you guys talking about? The motor push's 350 + horsepower and does 0 to 60 in about 5.5 seconds. It's pretty damn good for a giant SUV rolling down the road. It is just right below the R/T Hemi powered Durango.
You have it backwards. It's slightly quicker stock than the Hemi Durango actually. And a $450 tune away from adding 75 HP and being Hemi Challenger quick. (I've done it with my wife's at the track.)
I like German cars but mike is obsessed with comparing every car to a "German luxury car" this is a ford not a Lincoln this is also a lot cheaper than the cars he's referencing.
You could easily increase your production value with better video crops and better outfits, casual but not like that. Add an handheld camera to inside reviewing so you can really show what your talking about. Really liking the start, lets make this a best car channel!
Guys: 1. Taut handling at higher speeds is a safety issue. You don't want the lack of body control of a regular SUV, especially something like a Pilot, should you have to avoid something quickly at 75mph. 2. Power to pass and fit in spots, as well as pull into traffic, is another convenience and safety feature. Entering an expressway with lots of traffic requires you to quickly match speed and be able to pull forward if needed to find a spot. 3. Floppy body leaning vehicles require the driver to baby it to avoid seasick passengers and bodies sliding around. Flat handling is much more convenient to the driver. 4. So, better handling and acceleration is a plus, whether or not you are racing around like an idiot. German crossovers already tend to have these characteristics, Ford added it to theirs to make it competitive, and sales bear out the success of that strategy.
I've noticed some people who buy Sport model cars think their car is a sports car & drive recklessly, most likely for appearance. Do you think the Explorer rides as good as the Lincoln MKT?
How I found many RUclips channels initially was from comparison videos.... when shopping for a vehicle I like to here the pros and cons of both it would be neat to see some content... in a this vs that fashion i.e. For 30k you can get this or that and hear are the pros and cons of both
Bought it to have fun getting groceries and towing the fams cars around the country. Buy it for what it's designed for. Fun with the option to work. OR, work with the option for fun.
Eddie. In a Mustang video you mention you work for ford as an engineer. Please forward my ideas to the Explorer designers Need to change seat config to 2-2-3. More power. Better gas mileage
the fact a loaded explorer platinum coming in at 60k is being compared to a Range Rover should tell you american car makers are trying harder than ever to get at the germans
Land Rover is owned by Ford and the designers for the Range Rover and other brands, such as Aston Martin, are all rearanged once in awhile. Which explains why the Ford Explorer looks like a Range Rover and the Ford Fusion has the front end of a Vantage
Doesn't "sport" usually just denote the base model? Nissan and some other just shorten it to "S," but AFAIK Kia/Hyundai, Subaru, and Ford still fully spell out "sport." And it's been that way since the 90s, especially with the base models of already cheap compacts, Suzuki/Geo started it. Ford probably should've used a different name, this might be confusing.
Sean Kurth nah sport has usually always been the highest/most performance oriented model within an economy car's range. Sport usually entails more features that give it a "sporty" feel, hence the name.
It's not the same, but they are very similar. Both are a 3.5 twin turbo v6. The only difference is the raptor is a "high output". But you can easily tune the explorer and do some minor upgrades. It'll smoke most cars on the road.
Mike clearly has no idea on how to give proper consumer advice let alone basic car knowledge. He said he would take a Honda Pilot for the driving dynamics in the video. If anything I would take a Cayenne, a Macan Turbo or even the CX9 for driving dynamics alone.
I mentioned the CX-9 as having great driving dynamics. The Honda Pilot surprised me too! The Cayenne and the Macan Turbo are definitely not competitors to the Ford Explorer Sport.
I have a pearl white Explorer Sport and everyone gets out my way on the freeway. Bonus
Thanks I’m normally that person... I secretly hate you😂

Looking at getting a 2018 platinum soon here eventually in the early next year most likely. Appreciate the input
Mike has improved a lot! At first he talked so "scripted" but now it he seems more comfortable and natural! Can't wait to see him in more videos!
Every time i see an explorer on the road i slow down
Same. I'm thinking it could be an undercover cop car.
just look at the rims. Cop car rims are all covered up
DeOndré Anderson you have the option to turn your dlr’s off on the sport and they look just like the cops lol I have people slow down and move over every once in a while and I wonder if they think I’m a cop!

Not liking the synergy. Eddie throughout the whole video is constantly interrupting the new guy Mike before he can finish his thoughts.

The format is good, but the microphone situation needs some work
The microphone situation should improve greatly with our next set of reviews!

Lol mike my boy! I am here watching this considering a sport to daily and i see you commented 🤣

Yyyoo another double bass player. My dude I love it
Since when was Parker Asian?
I think you failed to mention it does 0-60 in about 6 seconds. That's no joke for a car weighing 5000lbs

It would be nice to have the camera pointed at updated sync3 when you guys were talking about that.
Looks AMAZING in that black. My next car. Gonna tint the windows
What song was that at the beginning of the video ?
Updated in description!

True. The Adrenalin also looks better in any color but black because of the black accents.

Hey Parker is back in Michigan are you guys ever going to talk again ?
I've noticed some people who buy Sport model cars think their car is a sports car & drive recklessly, most likely for appearance. Do you think the Explorer rides as good as the Lincoln MKT?
Hey Eddie, you should get a chance to review the Karma Revero. Compare the Fisker Karma to its new successor.
Great video Eddie and Mike!
This new format is more personable and engaging I think. The new guy definitely has improved and at points I even thought he was better than Eddie
I am wondering would 4'9 person be able to drive a ford explorer vehicle?
White!
How much they run?

Eddie & Mike? Who's Mike
Whoever is planning to get an Explorer needs to put a black grille and black rims. You'll scare people around you.
What's with the weird mic syncing?
for 2 minutes i thought it was a range rover
I hate when I see these in white, it's hard to see if it's a cop car coming from your rear.
You mean the $45K Explorer sport isn't like a $90,000 Cayenne?
Too many cars with “sport” labels that aren’t actually “sporty”
Doesn't "sport" usually just denote the base model? Nissan and some other just shorten it to "S," but AFAIK Kia/Hyundai, Subaru, and Ford still fully spell out "sport." And it's been that way since the 90s, especially with the base models of already cheap compacts, Suzuki/Geo started it. Ford probably should've used a different name, this might be confusing.

Mike interrupts so much! He's going to get know then he'll break off from you Eddie. I bet you whatever!
Don't like the writing on the hood, looks too much like a range. bleh
Haydn Fisher they were designed by the same person so that's why they look so similar and have the same design features like that
A range is a long long ways up the scale from this. It's a reach up. The more similarities it has to a RR S the better in everyone's opinion.
Fucking flip flops look professional in a fucking (high quality) video no wonder you only have 45k subs
Nice Nikes Eddie, Mike you need some shoes man
Michael Zhu but foot fetish
very good car very fast too 365hp
Selling Range Rover Sport SVR for this right away. JK, my actual car cost as much as rims + full gas tank of that Ford.
And its in the shop as much as it is on the road....

I am sorry, but why would anyone buy this car for 50k. There are so many nicer vehicles in that price range.
agree!
What would you get in this segment for the price?
Morgan Grant Volvo xc90
Kevin Ruiz what country are you from? I'm in Canada. An Explorer sport is about 58k with tax. An XC90 is between 75 and 90k.
an xc90 is much more expensive...
Acura RDX is much better at the same price.
