      Rex Apis
      Not always no. i guess its not always clear to others that I am making a joke and a fair portion of the time my jokes are taken seriously or literal. i guess from what im told is my sense of humor is dry. so i suppose it makes it easy for misunderstandings to occur.

    • @aragornthebrave
      @aragornthebrave 7 лет назад +3

      Lexort 420, that happens to me a lot too. I think I've got a well-developed sense of humour, but I hate it when people make me out to be gullible for their own amusement. I think they're being cruel.

    • @rexapis2125
      @rexapis2125 7 лет назад +3

      aragornthebrave
      Unfortunately a lot of people do behave cruelly, and it's often just them projecting their insecurities and inadequacies on others and animals, especially people they deem to be weaker than themselves, and so they are just bullies at the end of the day & when challenged 99% of the time will just flake

  • @joschisaurus182
    @joschisaurus182 7 лет назад +41

    My jokes are mostly either puns, or I'm making exaggerated comments of things that are currently talked about. Which can be extremly awkward when I _thought_ others were joking, but actually weren't (often happens when the topic is something nsfw..).
    The only comedy show I watch and love is Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It's very funny, but I watch it with a completely straight face, which got me some "oh, not your type of humour?" comments.

      Yes, I am the same way. I will use a pun in every way I can think of until it is exhausted, and I find them funny long after others have begun plotting my death. I also frequently get reprimanded for finding something that NT's take very seriously funny. Any tiny detail that is ironic or just doesn't fit the rest of the scenario usually sets me off on a thought path of finding everything humorous about how or why it exists, and even if I tried to explain what I found funny no one around me would understand it.

    "take the world as an honest place" this omg. I think it could be connected to how we are often naive (or at least perceived that way) . I've talked to some people who have the same experience as me - that they are used to assuming other people are speaking the truth, but to an extend where they rather trust others than themselves (since we're taught that we're processing the world "wrong")
    anyway more about the topic of your video - a majority of autistic people really seem to enjoy puns and all kinds of plays on words. Apparently it has something to do with the way we think, I'm not 100% sure, but that's the kinda jokes many of us can get behind at least^^ I do love puns a lot myself

    I have Aspergers and I think that I understand jokes, irony, and sarcasm very well. I was diagnosed at age 19 and when I was younger everyone around me were sarcastic and all so I kind of picked it up. The bad thing about this is everyone says I am really funny, however myself I think I am not funny at all. To put it in short I try to talk normally and everyone is laughing around me and I don't understand why that happens, because I think I didn't say something that funny.

    I haven't had a meltdown since I stopped talking on a regular basis to my family member who I hate,and who doesn't understand/accept my illness. For example he kept saying "we'll going to have a big serious talk with teachers etc.about my school" when he knew talking about my studies used to trigger. meltdown. His repeating made it worse. I was like "please lets not talk about it,i can't handle it" and he said "yes, oh yes we will talk sbout it."

    All my life, I have understood jokes and humor better than most people. Even better than most NTs. I have been telling jokes all my life, since Kindergarten!
    I have written a few of my own jokes and even performed on stage. I took a comedy class at Michigan State University. The exam was to actually perform live on stage at a comedy club in front of about 300 people! I was scared to death, but, I did it! Once I overcame most of my fear, it only took a few minutes, it was fun and extremely exciting!
    I've never had a problem understanding jokes, but, most Aspies don't understand them very well. I posted a joke on Facebook. I put it on my wall, several joke groups and some Autism and Asperger's pages. Most people understood the joke and really liked it. But, most people on the Autism/Asperger's sites didn't get it. Half of them took the joke seriously and a lot of them took it seriously! I had to put a disclaimer on it on the Autism sites, saying: "This is a joke, a whole joke and nothing but a joke! Don't take this seriously! People were still bothered by the joke! On at least One Autism site, I got so many negative comments that I just removed it from the site!
    Other than that, people who are not Autistic loved the joke. This was a few years ago.

    I have this problem too. And the fact that the line to cross is always different depending on who you are with makes it harder to know where it is and what you can get away with. I adapted to not really understanding a lot of jokes by being the one to tell them, although most of my jokes weren't too funny lol!
    A nice science joke for you: 2 scientists walk into a bar. One asks "H2O please" and the other asks "H2O too!" (H2O2)

    I hate 'embarrassing' humor, I just relate too much with the characters to laugh. It is torture. For example, the first Johnny English movie (I have not seen the second one because the first one is so cringy) I just can't watch, even if I know what is about to happen. Especially because I know what is about to happen. BUT the get smart movie, which is of the same genre, is absolute gold! I just love it! Not embarrassing at all yet veeeery similar.
    The wierd thing is that, I used to like this 'embarrassing' type too, when I was a kid. I loved Johnny English when I saw it in the cinema. I was a kid. I'm not sure what happened. Maybe it's my theory of mind that has developed or just because as an adult it is easier to relate to other adults...

    Jokes and sarcasm are the hardest things for me to understand. My mom tells me that I've always been really funny, but when I'm with friends I tell the raunchiest jokes. I'm definitely less funny around certain people (just because I get embarrassed super easily). In school it was so hard when teachers would say "where's the sarcasm" or "where's the irony in this" in books, and I've always been like... whatttttt???? I just don't get it and it goes over my head a lot. Cool video! Can't wait for the next one.

    I love comedy, for example, I watch short funny videos in Instagram and I understand them. But when someone makes a joke I don´t understand it. You said that people with Asperger´s may joke in an unappropiate time, but I´m not keen on making jokes, but I laugh at unappropiate moments, for example if someone is sad I might find it funny. But I don´t really mean it... It´s weird

    I like observational humor. An example would be comedian Jerry Seinfeld in his "I'm telling you for the last time" routine. I find that since I interpret everything so literally it's the easiest type of humor for me to convey to others, though sometimes it might be inappropriate and I don't realize it until later.

    I punched a lot of stuff when I got angry. I understand completely. I usually try to detach myself when that comes up. I love humor but only when it comes to puns. People have played inappropriate jokes on me all the time & it made me rage. And then they say 'your anger is hilarious!' just because I am 'too nice' to get back at them in a way that'd make them taste what I tasted. I wish I had never met those guys. I agree with you about how we process comedy. But I wish I knew what everything that my 'friends' talked about meant. MrWiiAlex My dad can be inappropriate that it's creepy.. not often but I feel he doesn't truly know what a father's role is emotionally.. He provided for us etc but it's almost like he doesn't get the father daughter dynamic.. I'm certain my dad's Aspie and I think I am.. Given I've grown up around certain characters not a lot truly shocks me.. maybe you'll grow out of it in time because I'm sure most ppl aren't really that awful and are simply joking.. Ppl can cross the line though.. As far as jokes going over your head.. for me personally I feel like I'm a disappointment because I don't laugh at many things which I consider to be truths.. its already crossed my mind generally.. I only seem to laugh if it's something obsecure I hadn't noticed or really stupid.. or laughing at social 'faux pas' ?? I'm not sure that's the right word.. as in going against societal/social expectations.. This girl was laughing at leaving a bbq I was at.. she was hungry and couldn't be bothered to fix herself a burger so took a meat patty and it was a bit solid and for some reason she found that really funny.... I don't understand how you can laugh at that and I'm sure that's not just an Aspie thing but hey we're all different! If I'm in a restless mood I can laugh at the dumbest things but I'm not sure I could laugh at something quiet mundane.. other times ppl have said something I knew was witty but it went straight over my head.. x2 it's bn a dig at me.. obviously that person and I are on 2 totally different pages and I guess that's something to do with why they're 'having a go' at me..

    I would say that sarcasm is communicating a truth through allegory and shared emotion/experience. He seems to understand sarcasm to an extent, but not how to use it appropriately, whereas someone with sociopathy or psychopathy would be able to utilize sarcasm, but not understand when it's being used by others (interesting dichotomy there. Perhaps aspies are super-feelers and cluster b's, like psychopaths and sociopaths are non-feelers...?) I notice that my cousin with aspergers will make really nasty and hurtful jokes, but I tend not to think that's just the aspergers at play. I think he's really hurting and doesn't know how to express it, and that because of that, he is being drawn toward hate groups and hate ideology, which PLAY on his aspergers. This makes me incredibly sad for him.

    I had to basically teach myself how sarcasm, jokes, and rhetorical questions work, but I still occasionally get things wrong, either saying something that was too much for most people, or running a joke into the ground.
    When it comes to understanding it, it really depends on the person, how well I know them and how obvious they make it. Sometime I get it, other times it just flies right over.
    But ye, I find it a bit difficult to pin what kind of comedy I enjoy watching, but I like a wide variety of stuff. A few examples I can think of off the top of my head being Chowder, Flapjack, Futurama, Asobi Asobase, FLCL, Gabriel DropOut, KonoSuba, Nichijou, and Pop Team Epic.

    Two hunters were walking through the forest one day. All of the sudden, one of them passes out. The other hunter panics and dials 911. The emergency responder says “911, whats your emergency?” The hunter replies “My friend just passed out and I don’t know what to do! I think he might be dead!” The emergency responder replies “Before you do anything, make sure he is dead.” The phone goes silent and then the responder hears a gunshot. The hunter gets back on the phone and says “Ok, now what?”

    People assume that if i make people uncomfortable with jokes its because i cant read the room. But thats not it. I just like making people uncomfortable. The joke is for me, not for them. Sometimes I try to make someone uncomfortable with a joke and then it turns out theyre just as twisted as me and they add to the joke and its like magic. Like when i asked a soldier if he had killed anyone yet today. He said he hadnt, but it was early in the day.

    I have HFA and I find that I have this very weird sense of humor. This can be attributed to my wild imagination, and my knack for writing fictional stories. I LOVE to play around with tropes, imagery, and many literary devices, so much, that I see life as another piece of literary art. This love of lexicon made me major in English in high school. My love of lexicon can present itself in the way I speak (I tend to speak in metaphors)

    Here's a story about me and humour: I just kind of created this image of me that is not serious at all and makes it really obvious I'm joking. This makes me able to get away with making almost any joke I can come up with, and people are enjoying it! For example, it is expected that you take school really seriously. Well, I do, but I decided it was way too boring. So I don't do the standard routine presentation about saving the whales or whatever, and just telling some boring information. For example, I'd make some stupid joke about Japan. They know I'm not being serious, because I set that image. So they laugh. I like to think of it as "educational stand-up comedy". Just a story I'd like to share.

    I'm Autistic and I don't have any trouble understanding jokes. But what I get confused by is when other people think a joke is funny when I think it's stupid or a bad joke. There are some jokes that I think are just completely unfunny but other people will laugh at. Also, sometimes, my jokes tend to go over people's heads. It's not that I don't know how to tell a good joke or that I don't know what's funny; it's that their minds don't work on the same level as mine and they don't grasp why I think this particular thing is funny. But I've found some ways to joke about those things that other people can grasp and understand why something just hit me as being funny. But it's all learned skills. I had to learn how to find something funny, structure the joke & deliver it correctly to get the desired effect. And like any other skill, with enough practice, you can become good at it despite it not coming naturally to you. So don't feel bad if you find comedy/jokes confusing or struggle with something/anything. You can always find a way to work it out and learn.

    I have a thing for Swedish (which is my mother tongue) practical jokes because Swedish comedians often has that sort of inappropriate humour. Especially plays and impersonations where everything is exaggerated and twisted.
    (There’s a Swedish movie called YRROL where they literally make both racist and nudity jokes and it wasn’t until I realised that those jokes were super offensive that I stopped thinking they were funny.)
    Mostly when I joke I’ve either hurt someone or when the joke is too complex for the people in my surroundings. I do, unlike others, use sarcasm in pretty much everything I say whether it be good or bad. But I have realised that if I am uncertain or it is more imbedded into the monologue or text I cannot actually spot it and usually miss out on good jokes.

    I’m glad I’m not alone. Don’t have a formal diagnosis but I suspect I fall on the spectrum. I’m here because today someone at work told me “oh, so you do have a funny bone in your body” today after being witty apparently for the first time. “So you are able to be witty”..Don’t think neurotypicals understand how difficult it is for us and also that we naturally reserve our humor for people we feel totally comfortable around-I.e. not around coworkers and strangers.
