    Nocturnal bucks don’t exist I understand that now however they do change and become nocturnal in a certain area because they’re moving because of pressure. I have many bucks that are photogenic daylight hours on food plots and other areas and that changes once the hunting season starts and they only move in there after dark. The key that I have realized is I have to move into the timber to the small staging areas where the bucks are moving and eating bc they don’t feel comfortable in the well used feeding areas during day light. Great video guys and it just confirmed my experience. Keep up the great content

    Love this 🎥 so true. Bucks aren't nocturnal if you know your bucks travel route set up several cameras along the trails find out what time he is coming through get the right wind set up hope for the best. Thats the way i do it and kill nice bucks.

As a result, I have changed the way I hunt. Thanks for the education you are providing . Congratulations to you and wish you all the success you achieve.

    I have never assumed that deer were nocturnal. I have seen too many moving around periodically throughout the day all during the season. They may not move far, and most people I know hunt a box stand on a green patch, which can certainly make you think they are nocturnal.

    Great information to digest, and chew on later..lol I've seen bucks that move and feed at night, but the same bucks move and feed during the day too. The hunting pressure makes them move in a smaller pattern I've noticed, through trailcams and scouting. They're still there and huntable, usually takes a bit more work. Love ya'll and what you're doing ❤️

    1 thing the old timers I've hunted with have always looked at the cows in the area and will say " the cows are up eating, we got to get in the woods the deer are feeding" is there any truth that cows and deer feed at the same time? I personally call BS but 🤷‍♂️

I don't even live in the south but I imagine that's much worse given the fact that it's early in the season and guys are jonesing to go. In May, I'm the only one out there and that's when I do damage. That's my only critique if you will

    I watched a video that was put out on RUclips in April of 2012 by the National Deer Association. That study was about deer movement during different moon phases. They discovered that deer are “Perpuscular”, meaning they move mostly at dawn & dusk. The moon phases didn’t effect them like we mostly think. It was a pretty interesting video.

    • @stevecooper8121
      @stevecooper8121 2 года назад

      That's funny, how come there are so many deer hit on the roadways right around the full moon ?
      I drive a truck thu the mountains in Tennessee, North and South Carolina
      and always see more deer dead and alive.

    • @gregphillips1998
      @gregphillips1998 2 года назад

      @@stevecooper8121 so I guess you did your own scientific study to come to that conclusion? I just gave an example of a study put out and I also gave the time line and institute that did it. The only time that I have first hand experienced the moon effecting the deer is they move more at moon rise and moon set. An older hunter told me that and proved it to me. So, do you’re own research and come to your own conclusions.

    They make good points about people jumping to conclusions, but our deer are all ABSOLUTELY nocturnal during gun season, especially the mature bucks. We set up 20-25 cameras on ~100 acre tracts and hunt hard. The only daytime pics we get of mature bucks are bedding areas aside from the offseason and 1 week in November. Nothing on trails, water crossing, feed sources, etc. For 10 years straight we have only killed big bucks in the rut or the 1st week of bow season. During firearm season, 92% of our pics on travel routes and 98% on feed are at night(and the 2% are yearlings). If you don't call that nocturnal, we are having a useless conversation on semantics.

Surrounding leases out high pressure with dogs, etc. I tend to only see quality bucks right before dark unless mornings during rut. Is there any options to promote buck activity at other times of the day due to not having bedding areas on me?

    Comment on deer spending time in beds. Here in Pa. I have a place where I can easily observe a small hollow where deer frequently bed during heavy snow. My record is a doe who NEVER left her bed for FIVE days! Snow was approximately 18 inches deep and I could walk up to about 25 meters of her. No tracks in snow and one sunny day as I approached she calmly stood up and walked away. No injuries; no blood or hair in bed.

    I love watching your content but this one was hard to follow. Yes anyone with common sense knows a buck isn’t 100% “nocturnal”. But when it comes to hunting that buck on your specific lease he can and often is in all practical purposes nocturnal. Example I have 138 acres I can hunt, I can’t stray past that the property line. If a 180 inch buck is showing up at 1:00 AM and never anytime soon. There is no use making that your target buck, you will eat a tag. Yes he is probably standing up in his bedding area an hour befor dark two or there properties away, but he will never reach you. So in all practical purposes of hunting him, he is nocturnal. Agree not technically but to your hunting property he may very well be. Not everyone gets to hunt vast acres and can track down the bedding areas, we just have to manage what we have. I think when people say nocturnal they are speaking a bout their areas not in general. Let’s face it if a buck is in his bedding area 30 mins to hour before dark, he not going to get harvested unless your in the bedding area. Very few people get to hunt those honey holes.

    I dont think its a myth at all.
    Go out spotting some night and see how many more bucks you will see, especially large ones.
    Since the coyote population has increased, and with longer hunting seasons as compared to years ago, they are much more heavily hunted.
    These BS sessions are just that for the most part.
    As for the well managed property, that might be true in places having mostly private land, like say Texas.
    But go to areas having very large areas of public land, and where there is essentially no deer management, and see if that theory still applies.

    It's fake, there are no nocturnal bucks or you or anyone would kill one! Just saying ...

    All whitetail deer are nocturnal all year long. Bucks and does. It is a distinct natural chatacter of the species. And they are all active during daylight at some point depending on how comfortable they are all in relation to seasons, time, weather, location, hunting pressure. Just look at their eyes. The relflective properties are similiar to a walleye which are crepuscular ( twighlight ) feeders. Very active and see excellent under low light or no light. But they also can be active during the day depending on the situation. So....when hunting pressure or negative activity impacts the deer. Its a natural easy choice by them to only move in areas that they have been pressured on at night. And they are on unpressured areas during the day.

    It's hard for some guys to take this because it changes what their Fathers and Granddads told them. It's difficult to bring these "ideas" home. Like a deer you need to chew on this for while. Take the info get outside and harvest deer using these methods and then explain what you've learned when your racks are bigger and you've outgrown the traditions.

    i have many bucks that are definitely nocturnal. no high pressure, no food sources, not hunting on farms and private land. i'm getting all the deer in the area on many cams. majority of the deer will be moving at all hours, night, early morning, midday, afternoon, dusk, etc. but there are definitely some fellas that only ever show up in complete darkness.
    now of course, they aren't fully nocturnal, in that they only get up and move at dark. we know that deer get up throughout the day. they have to. but, these particular deer seem to be staying deep in their cover when they do that. they just aren't getting up and wandering about. but once it's dark, then they go and roam. some brutes have just adjusted and their survival instinct is #1, it seems. and i'll think that they will surely show themselves and get dumb during the rut. nope. some of these guys are still only moving at night, looking for does, hitting the scrapes and rubs, etc. it's crazy, but i swear, some are just THAT strict to their survival instinct.
    there's monster bucks out there that have never, ever been seen. they are just that smart.

    Where do bucks hide? Believe it or not I kicked up a bedded buck on my older brother's property that was bedded in a strip of timber seperating 2 soybean fields that wasn't even 10 yards wide. His late father in law had a bull dozer come in there and pushed all the timber into a pile to make more room to plant. That buck had a "nest" in the middle of that pile and that's where he lived. Unreal.

    All deer are nocturnal. Look at the eyes in a spotlight. Just because something is nocturnal doesn't mean they're activity is in the dark only.

    Isn’t that sad that the public is so downright confused about the quality of the forest pertaining to the well-being of the animals even though it’s these same city people who declare themselves to be animals rights lovers while truly they are clueless about what makes good habitat, I guessing they especially love the animals in Disney animation.

    That’s why god created forest fires. And if you look at really wild terrain, with little to no human intervention, they tend to burn in patchy areas, which gives a more diverse environment for all the animals.

    Once again... great content... but the audio is horrible. Have your guests on mono or something to keep the extreme split between the left and right channel.

    Seems like by definition they are not nocturnal but for all practical purposes they are. If they only move in the bedding area and only a few hundred yards in the daylight then I'm calling that nocturnal in reality

    I have been told by hunters that they have seen mature bucks come to the edge of the cover during rut and does coming in estrus or in estrus would actually go to them in that cover. The mature bucks would not for the most part leave that cover during daylight hours. Have you heard of that situation? Thanks

    They may not be nocturnal Kansas Illinois northern states but I guarantee in the south South Alabama Florida they're nocturnal every now and you'll catch one right at daylight or ride a dark chasing a doe except for the young year and a half hour two and a half year old six or eight points some of them will chase during the day both the real big ones nocturnal
