- On a windy and cold day, Matt heads out to an ice hole for a duck hunt. It took a little awhile, but eventually the mallards starting committing and in a big way! It wasn't too long and Matt had his mallard limit. Another great day of duck hunting with the 28 gauge.

Love to see an ethical hunter. A lot of hunters would've shot another duck and never told anyone about the duck they lost. Integrity is what we need to show the non hunters in this day and age that hunters aren't just mercilessly killing animals for sport. Majority of us are harvesting for fresh, non hormonal food that you can't get anywhere else but the wild. Great video.
Well said! Thanks!
I subbed based on this, great content
Man Matt, my nerves can't take it, these months of waiting for season. Thanks for the great fix between times! Barry
Haha same here Barry!
Watching them work in is one of the best shows there is. Nice work Matt!
Thanks man!
Holy crap indeed! Great morning, great video. Great to see so many mallards flooding over and not being shot into 👍
Thanks!
Props for still counting the duck you couldn't retrieve as part of your limit! Ethical hunter!
Appreciate it!
That first lite flight was super. Restraint was above average. Most guys would have shot. Thanks for the surprise vid.
Thanks!
Creative my dear friend❤
Thanks!
Absolutely fantastic video, Matt. The camera work, B-roll, audio/soundtrack, editing... absolutely a cut above. Great Job!
Watching this has me jonesing for the coming 2022-23 season and dusting off all of my duck guns (especially the 28ga during teal and early season!). Currently looking to get out to your side of Nebraska more often this season, especially come January of '23 for more of those late season North/South Platte Green Heads and Honkers. They are so addicting and you can't beat the absolutely gorgeous views.
You made a good choice on not pushing to grab that 4th mallard; I'm not so sure I would have sent the dog on it either were it me. Those rotted ice shelves can conceal some seriously dangerous loose sands and head-deep holes on the Platte.
Thanks man! I was thinking after that, that even if I had a dog, there'd be no way I'd send him on a bird like that. Going to bring a fishing pole if I hunt similar conditions going forward.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen Excellent idea with the fishing pole. From my buddy's experience hunting frozen over golf course ponds in Virginia, it's a good idea to use at least a #2 Treble hook with a 1/4 or 1/2 oz weight about 12" up the line and a smaller one right above the knot to the hook for snagging dead birds on skim or rot ice. Makes life a bit easier and the snag faster.
The fact that you care about the one you lost says everything, good job!
Appreciate it!
Mad respect for counting the lost bird as part of your limit. Too many of the new generation have no respect for the birds. Great hunt and camera work. Nothing better than picking your shots on days like this.
Appreciate it!
Luv the Throw back videos buddy! Have a GREAT day, and God Bless!!!!👍🤗🙏🙏🙏🙏
Appreciate it Myron!
@@HighPrairieSportsmen 👍🤗
All those ducks are a great thing to see. We need more for healthy pop's.
Yep. Need to keep protecting habitat
Your production is very good - multiple cameras - long and wide views ( not just the head cam crap ) plus musik - with only the comments anyone needs to hear , and no time filler - MUCH better than booby guy - and smart for releasing very off season - your triple turkey was entertaining for being shorter than others - I salute you from fort collins - keep it up, rewards are on the way
Thanks! Appreciate that!
Love this simple hunt! so many guys say they NEED thousands of dollars of decoys, the best blind, dogs, insulated waders, high end 12 ga guns, etc. This proves you can hunt just as well on a budget
Thanks!
That was a beautiful hunt
Thanks Dan!
Great hunt.. that 28 gauge does a real number in the right hands. Fun to watch.. Blessings
Thanks Kraig!
I personally like to hunt the same way, basically in my decoy spread shooting them close! Although it looks a lot different here in Louisiana, and it's very rarely mallards. Great video, and great shooting!
Thanks! Love working them close
Totally agree! Like working them in while sitting in a pirogue with the cane reeds pulled over you and the pup! Great video!
That thumbnail photo is out of this world good job
thanks for another new video!!
cant wait for this fall already getting the duck itch..
gardening to pass the time.
cheers.
Appreciate it! Doing some gardening as well until season.
Your an excellent hunter, buster out a hole and makeshift blind. Great shooting also.
Thanks!
There was more mallards in the opening scene than in all of Indiana all season! Lol
Haha just hit it perfectly
Awesome Hunt! Thats always terrible when you lose a greenhead i know the feeling it makes you sick to your stomach!
Thanks man!
8:27 just a casual dump mid-flight LMAO.
😂 I didn't even notice that
I was looking for a comment or I was gonna put it 😂
that was good video. I enjoyed it.
Thanks!
Fantastic video and thanks for saving that one. It's pretty lonely without the steady uploads of duck/goose hunts, lol. Losing birds is the worst. I know the prairie will eat them, but it still doesn't sit right. At the same time, your health and safety isn't worth a duck.
Thanks! Don't worry, I'll have more dropping throughout the summer. Always hate losing a bird.
Good shootin' Matt.
Thanks Paul!
Dang this video is poppin off! Nicely done, Matt!
Thanks man!
Matt glad you stuck with it you Shoot 5 only to retrieve 4 so you counted the one that drifted away I have buddy`s that they wouldn`t have counted it and would have shot another. Enjoyed it
Appreciate it Chuck!
Nice job 👍🏼
Thanks!
Pack collapsible fishing pole and a top water lure...you'll never even have to step 3' from the blind for them ones out on thin ice.
That's the plan next time
Great Video, all good duck hunters hate losing birds. Glad to see you do the right thing.
Thanks!
I enjoyed the video 👍.
Glad to hear it!
Awesome video Matt!
Thanks!
Why you gotta do me like this.... It's so far awaaaay!
Haha right there with ya
Nice shooting best duck hunting video I've seen. No water swatting. Counting a lost duck towards limit. Subscribed can't wait to see more videos
Appreciate it!
Great hunt, Matt!
Thanks buddy!
Охота супер МОЛОДЕЦ 👍👍👍👍
👍🏻
Nice job on the hunt...... I love the fact you count the lost bird....... many people don't & their not thinking conservation
Thanks! Way I see it is I shot it, even if I couldn't physically retrieve it.
Welldone guys 👍
Thanks!
Nice hunt 👍👍👍
Thanks!
Two things: 1. I know it sucks to lose ducks, but when the weather warms, the turtles will enjoy it, so it won't go to waste. 2. Bring a fishing rod with a weighted treble hook on it with you. Sometimes, you can cast out and snag them and reel em in.
Cool video, thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Definitely carrying a pole with me next time
I like how you use the duck carcauses as decoys, very creative.
Thanks
The video is good as always but that thumbnail is absolutely awesome.
Appreciate it!
Good shooting.
Thanks!
Nice nice.... Hi from Yakutia!
Thanks!
From the Great Northwest public Duck Blind, Matt always a good shot you killer
Thanks! I have my bad days too haha
Another top notch piece of work.
Thanks Greg!
"THE SET IT UP SERIES"

Thanks Douglas!
Mantap lokasinya master👍
👍🏻
GREAT VIDEO!!! I loved the footage, I applaud your integrity, and your shooting was on the money!! If I am not mistaken only one miss. Those are the days duck hunters live for. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Very good bro
Thanks!
What a great duck hunt. You my friend are an Ethical hunter and I highly Respect that. Great work. Dux
Appreciate it!
Great video
Thanks!
That opening looks like late season Walpole island.
Nice
Parabéns muito bom mesmo Deus abecoi asu vida amei todos escritos amei 🙏🙏🤔😀😲👏👏👏👍👍
Thanks!
At 8:00 that’s my biggest fear, to kill something I don’t know what it is. I’m going hunting for the first time hopefully this weekend and i don’t wanna get in trouble killing something I’m not supposed to.
It just takes experience. If you aren't sure of your target, don't shoot. No shame in that.
That is tremendous shooting with a 28g. Congratulations. I have a hard enough time hitting them with a 12
Thanks!
I bring a fishing rod with me and a treble hook, and if I get a bird into deep water I cast it over and bring them in, helps out a ton
That's my plan next time I hunt something like that
Bạn thiện xạ thật , bắn không trật phát nào
Thanks!
man your good with 28ga
Thanks!
@@HighPrairieSportsmen i'm in the mid of moving, sorry for early
Excelentes arma y buenas cazerias amigos saludos chebres caza 👌👍
Thanks!
Nice
It was sad , you cant pick up that one
You must take a fishing rod , then you can cast the duck from 30,40 feet easily 🙂
Some time, try it
🙂
Yep, gonna do that next time for sure.
@@HighPrairieSportsmen
Yup, it will help you , and you can retrieve your hunt from safe distance, but you must becarefull on snow, its dangerous
Obrigado pela atenção Deus abecoi amei 🙏🤔😲😀👏👍👍
👍🏻
Damn! Lol incredible dude. I’ve already got dates set, rental car reserved and the AirBnB booked for another trip out there this winter.
Thanks man! Can't wait to see you back out here again in southern Kansas 😂
@@HighPrairieSportsmen Kansas? Looked a lot like Central Oklahoma 👀🤣🤣
@@duckht183 crap, they both have so good of hunting I get them mixed up
@@HighPrairieSportsmen I’m pretty sure my cousin’s brother in-law’s uncle built that willow blind.. used to look a lot better before the spot got burned
@@duckht183 😂😂
that's a lot ducks
For sure
The thumbnail made me think this was a video game
Nope
First time ive watched a video from over the pond on duck shooting in 15 years and actually not thought “bunch of idiots shooting birds 5 yards away with 10 shots” this is more our style back here in the UK. Proper shooting
Appreciate it!
@@HighPrairieSportsmen I use to dream of flying out and shooting the otherside of the pond!
I never did get a mallard last year. Just a handful of woodies.
Dang, better luck this year!
wow 😲❤
👍🏻
Very good video and excellent shooting liked the fact you kept to your limit many would have taken 1 more
Appreciate it!
It should be illegal to post these vids in the off-season! 😆 great vid man, I’m counting down the days until the opener here in Oregon. Might have to get my dog out in the swamp this weekend, she might be more antsy than I am!
Haha thanks!
Awesome hunt 🔥
Thanks man!
I hope to god that floater was double banded, gps tracked, and had a collar
He probably was
A fishing pole works well for snagging ducks when hunting around ice or other hazards.
I'll have one next time for sure
I no longer have a dog to shoot with ☹️ so I take a long rope with a flat piece of roofing lead on the end, I use this to retrieve birds from the water I cannot access, I have heard of others using a small telescopic fishing rod and reel, casting out to retrieve too. Worth considering maybe? 🤔 Excellent video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks! I'm going to throw in a fishing pole with a weighted treble next time I hunt in conditions like this.
I wish we could get temps like that down here in Arkansas
Doesn't always happen like this here either. Hit it just right
Very good video a dog would of been a great asset there and thay can go places we can't
Thanks! Yeah, probably would've been too sketchy for a dog even. Carrying a fishing pole next time
Kudos to not shooting another mallard. Lots of guys would have edited out the one you lost, and killed a another bird. Respect given for that.
Appreciate it!
Awesome set up! No bird is worth your life! Think a fishing rod could help you retrieve birds next time?
Thanks! That's my plan if I hunt similar conditions again.
good
Thanks!
Love your videos man. What camera are you using on your body?
Thanks! GoPro Hero 8
Bring a fishing pole with a treble hook to snag the lost birds
That's the plan next time
Great video! What 28ga loads were you running? Looked impressive.
Thanks! Boss 5s
6:27 Pun intended?
Haha nope
Such an awesome video! I can’t wait until this next season. What camera are you using to catch your shots? I’m trying to decide if I want a tactacam or just to mount my GoPro on mine next season.
Thanks! GoPro Hero 5, Hero 8, Sony NX80, and Shotkam
Avlak on numara 👍👍.Av limit kısıtlaması varmı ?
Thanks! Yep, six ducks a day
Nice solo hunt. Are u shooting Boss Bismuth?
Thanks! Yep, Boss 5s
What choke are you using?
@@thomashoughton3470full
Amazing video! great shots! May i ask, what camera do you use mounted on the barrel? Thank you
Thanks! It's a Shotkam
Great video could you pls tell me what type of 28 gauge ammunitions' and chock that do you used is your 28 gauge 2+1 or 4 + 1 thanks
Thanks! Boss 5s, factory mod, 2+1
@@HighPrairieSportsmen thanks your Gun Benelli?
@@marco1964star yep, Benelli Ethos SuperSport
Nice hunt. Not sure what state your in but in the state i live in if you put a true effort into reteaving the duck and can not for saftey reasons you are allowed to take another duck in its place. It unfortunate you cant get it but it happens.
Thanks! Technically we can in Nebraska but I don't like to knowing I shot my limit already.
It’s probably a good thing you didn’t have any birds work at first light. I’d way rather let them leave clean right away and pick them off as they trickle back from feeding.
Yeah, that's a good point. They had their minds on one thing
I wish I had a spot like that! He had 100 ducks above him and chose to shoot the one that was decoying
Watching them decoy is one of the best parts
👍👍👍👍
👍🏻
How thick was the ice
Varied. 4 to 10 inches
I lost several in the rio this season and quit hunting it. Took too many spills and went under too many times. Not worth your life smart choose my man.
Yep, it sucks when it happens but you have to know your limits as well.
Which shotgun do you use my friend???
Benelli Ethos 28 gauge
do you eat the once you kill?
Yes. Every bird is eaten
Not sure if you can put your dead ducks in the decoy spread like that.
Not illegal in most states I hunt
@@HighPrairieSportsmen Just trying to keep you safe, cant where I live (not even a feather on a decoy). Keep up the good work! Keep them videos going!
What are you using for loads in that 28?
Boss 5s
Is this an old video?
Just one from last season
Гарне полювання, але мабуть дуже зимно та тяжко добувати дичину, но ти старанний хлопець.
Thanks!
