  • On a windy and cold day, Matt heads out to an ice hole for a duck hunt. It took a little awhile, but eventually the mallards starting committing and in a big way! It wasn't too long and Matt had his mallard limit. Another great day of duck hunting with the 28 gauge.

    Love to see an ethical hunter. A lot of hunters would've shot another duck and never told anyone about the duck they lost. Integrity is what we need to show the non hunters in this day and age that hunters aren't just mercilessly killing animals for sport. Majority of us are harvesting for fresh, non hormonal food that you can't get anywhere else but the wild. Great video.

    Absolutely fantastic video, Matt. The camera work, B-roll, audio/soundtrack, editing... absolutely a cut above. Great Job!
    Watching this has me jonesing for the coming 2022-23 season and dusting off all of my duck guns (especially the 28ga during teal and early season!). Currently looking to get out to your side of Nebraska more often this season, especially come January of '23 for more of those late season North/South Platte Green Heads and Honkers. They are so addicting and you can't beat the absolutely gorgeous views.
    You made a good choice on not pushing to grab that 4th mallard; I'm not so sure I would have sent the dog on it either were it me. Those rotted ice shelves can conceal some seriously dangerous loose sands and head-deep holes on the Platte.

    • @HighPrairieSportsmen
      @HighPrairieSportsmen  2 года назад +2

      Thanks man! I was thinking after that, that even if I had a dog, there'd be no way I'd send him on a bird like that. Going to bring a fishing pole if I hunt similar conditions going forward.

      @@HighPrairieSportsmen Excellent idea with the fishing pole. From my buddy's experience hunting frozen over golf course ponds in Virginia, it's a good idea to use at least a #2 Treble hook with a 1/4 or 1/2 oz weight about 12" up the line and a smaller one right above the knot to the hook for snagging dead birds on skim or rot ice. Makes life a bit easier and the snag faster.

    Your production is very good - multiple cameras - long and wide views ( not just the head cam crap ) plus musik - with only the comments anyone needs to hear , and no time filler - MUCH better than booby guy - and smart for releasing very off season - your triple turkey was entertaining for being shorter than others - I salute you from fort collins - keep it up, rewards are on the way

    Fantastic video and thanks for saving that one. It's pretty lonely without the steady uploads of duck/goose hunts, lol. Losing birds is the worst. I know the prairie will eat them, but it still doesn't sit right. At the same time, your health and safety isn't worth a duck.

    Two things: 1. I know it sucks to lose ducks, but when the weather warms, the turtles will enjoy it, so it won't go to waste. 2. Bring a fishing rod with a weighted treble hook on it with you. Sometimes, you can cast out and snag them and reel em in.
