Love this. No fancy editing, shots didn't go as planned, informative. It just felt real and very relatable compared to other videos. Videos like this will help a ton.
@ very talented. I posted on Hendry’s channel that I was never really a fan of Murphy as a person. But I think I’m slowly becoming a fan haha. I guess I’ll eat my hat!
By a significant margin, this is the single most valuable upload on RUclips about how to play the game (and I've probably seen them all!). What an incredible insight into the depth of analysis required and how to improve decision-making. Bravo, Shaun!
I love the streamlined intro and no background music. It's not attention soaking like 99% of videos nowdays, it's simple, elegant and professional looking. A bit like old school quality youtube videos. LOVE IT
Had the pleasure of meeting Shaun a year ago at Landywood snooker club. It was a quiet Monday and I was in the star table room with my friend. Shaun had come in to have a practice with Stan Moody but before he started playing he came over and had a chat with us for about 15 minutes. Very charming man and he told us a story of how he was kicked out of his local league for being too good and years later the same man who kicked him out of the league asked him to do a grand opening of his new club and he took great pleasure in telling him to F off
I'm glad you addressed the subtle complexity of the shot from blue to pink in the color clearance. It drove me crazy when I was first trying to clear the colors and was convinced there was no way the pros were so casually playing a shot with so much side when they land there on the blue. Constantly ended up bridging over the middle pocket on the pink until I figured it out - feels very vindicating to see it called out. Great video!
Great video, Shaun. Thanks for showing how you assess the table and give an insight to your shot selection. It's also nice to know that even the world champion can miss the black off its spot 😀. It just shows how much concentration goes into this game. One of the things I got from this video was, on certain shots, you said they were 'difficult' or 'a bit tricky', and these were shots that I would quite happily attempt and be a bit disappointed if I missed them. I definitely need to lower my expectations and give every shot the respect it deserves, and not be too hard on myself when I miss a tricky pot.
Exactly! When I am practising potting straight balls and I miss, I feel a huge sense of frustration and immediately start to doubt my technique. I've lost count of how many times I've changed my cue action because of this. When I miss angled shots, the frustration is less because perhaps I misjudged the aim or alignment, and there might not necessarily be a problem with my technique.
This is a fantastic video from a professional on how to play a frame of snooker. Absorbing this will really help out players of all levels in reading the frame and seeing different shots. Great video Shaun! 👏🏻
That was a great video and the first I've ever seen from a top player explaining all of the ifs and buts of shot selection and reasonings behind playing shots a certain way... spot on👌🏻
Great video Shaun. I use to know the great Ray Reardon many years ago, and we talked of the 'running' and 'check' sides often, and seeing you explain it all brought the memories flooding back. Great to see you play without editing the earlier misses.
Very insightful and honest. I like the position of the camera rather than a head cam. I’ve been playing snooker for 50 years but I learned a lot from this video. I think I over complicate the game sometimes. Many thanks Shaun
I really enjoyed that. Have been watching snooker on TV for 50 years (have only ever played about 3 frames, badly, IRL), and while the commentators do a good job, having you explaining all the nuances of the spins you apply and why was very helpful.
Great format, having a walkthrough through an entire frame like this was awesome! I actually liked it more from this angle than the numerous other headcam videos out there, as this nicely puts the television matches into perspective
Shawn u are amazing and we are so happy to see u posting regularly now .. congratulations for masters and I still remember telling this to u on ur insta Q&A and it happened!
Hi Shaun - appreciation from down under. I think your channel is excellent. Not just because your tips and advice are first class - but because your presentation is also great. Clear, articulate and fluent delivery. After watching your frame-against-yourself video this week I powered through my two competition frames - the second one a 68-7 win. I'm sure your vid was the difference. Many thanks, John M
Hello Shaun, from Texas, USA. Have always loved the game of Snooker. Really enjoy these sessions in your game room and your explanation of the game. This one was particularly interesting. Your demeanor and voice in the way you describe what's going on, is pleasing to watch. Thanks for sharing.
I have been playing since I was 10 years old. My highest break was 92, but that was a one off. have made a few 50's and 60's, but my average break would be about 30 to be honest. My dad has an old table at his house he bought years ago, very cheap which I play on, but the the cloth and cushions are gone on it over the years. My local snooker company said it would cost over £900 to recondition it with cloth and cushions, etc. Is this normal? We really can't afford that sort of money, but love playing the game. Apart from Alex Higgins, You are our favourite player to watch on tv. Apart from Alex Higgins, we have never seen a player hit a ball so well, and know their angles as much as you. What we can't believe, is why aren't you winning more tournaments? You should be DOMINATING the game! 💖💖
Congrats on your masters 🏆 and your 147 last not least happy birthday to your mom 🙏I nick named you the rolls royes of all snooker players that I have seen since 1979 your style puts lots of pressure on lots of players wishing you get back on the track and win 🥇 lots of trophies 🏆 cheers
Thank you Shaun for this interesting video. What I got from it is that even one of the best players in the world can, at times, struggle with cue ball control and is subject to an element of chance. A most enjoyable watch
I hope to see off the blue into the pack. I know resetting can be a pain, just use the pink, as in most cases you want to go into the pink anyway. It will give a lot of viewers good knowledge of where to hit the blue to get perfectly on the pink from different angles. Thanks Shaun, great videos!!
It just looks so easy and effortless. I love knowing how a player thinks during a frame. There wasn't much safety needed in this, but a tactical frame video would be epic.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for not putting any music over this video and respect for keeping in the 'warts-and-all' start to the frame. Fantastic, informative video. Also congratulations on the Masters title, you played an absolute blinder!
Hi Sean, love these videos, especially this type of walk through with what you are thinking too. I would like to see videos on potting with side, I’m actually a American nine ball pool fan and play a fair bit, but like a lot of amateur players in any cue sports I’m one of these people that have no trouble potting balls, that is until side comes into things 🤦🏻 then I tend to miss more pots just because of putting side on the cue ball, or spin as we tend to call it. There are many complicated videos explaining side spin and where to aim, and I understand that, distance, power, elevation, and even your equipment changes the exact point of where to aim, so maybe some videos explaining in more simple terms would be helpful to many amateur players of all cue sports. Thanks Sean and congratulations on your recent masters win 🏆 fantastic mate
This is one of the main differences between amateurs and professionals. Amateurs almost never use side spin (unless the ball is very close to the pocket), mainly because the compensations depend on various factors, such as the force applied and the distance between the two balls... an uncomplicated view on the subject would be fantastic!
Fantastic walkthrough and love listening to your thought process. I’m now thinking I overthink some shots which should be easier than I make them out to be.
10 out of 10. Well, maybe missing those early sitters, but a very good reminder to always give EVERY shot 100% attention, no matter how easy it seems. I'm very guilty of those misses in Celbridge.
Very informative to see what is going through the mind of a top player. Snooker is one of the best sports for commentary but the players sometimes see it differently to the commentators. It would be interesting to repeat this with Shaun and another player, and see how they both decide on the shots.
Every frame is different, you should do one of these every month or even play a full match v yourself over the course of a series of videos. Great to have a current Pro creating this type of content, well done for sensing the opportunity. But no, ketchup is not for fillet steak 😕
Great video Shaun, if you could also explain how you have to slightly adjust your aim, to compensate for putting left or right hand side on the white, to pot the object ball. keep up the superb videos, Steve, Leeds
Loved this Shaun. I can only think of 2 ways that could improve your videos. One, a headcam. Two, a diagram of a cue ball in the corner of the screen, illustrating exactly where on the cue ball is being struck for the desired spin. I suppose one or the other would be great. Obviously this adds more editing, so wouldn't be as feasible for long videos like this one.
This was fantastic, Shaun. You have a wonderful way of explaining your thought processes while playing a frame. I've just subscribed and look forward to your future videos. Congratulations on The Masters win btw; you played amazingly well.
I play in a local league on Thursdays 6 players in each team and one frame each person. Watching this frame is how I think in a frame I’m not a bad player but in one frame anything can happen so you have to be mentally prepared. But the most important thing for me is its a great night out with friends playing league snooker. Ps congratulations on winning the masters.🏆
Great stuff Shaun, real informative break building skills. You could have easily done a frame without missing a ball but I liked that you just kept going at it. BTW Epic Mater's performance and win 🎉
Really great video, learning how you choose which shot to take! Also kind of nice to see that even the greatest players in the world will miss easy shots when they are thinking about other things. 😉 It's a little funny when you say "like thousands of times before, it's the colours off their spots". I've managed that twice... 😂
Loved this video Shaun....the content reflects your personality, honest and sharing. Great content and definitely got a new subscriber 😊...all the best for the Worlds this year😊
Thanks for this sean, channel is great. To reach more people though, professional thumbnails, edited with a scoreboard/cue ball spin indicator and a headcam would do wonders. That said, you have a talent for entertaining throughout without the need for heavy editing and I love the raw/personal feel to them as they are.
Nice Shaun. Maybe do some golf with Stephen Hendry and Jimmy Bullard soon next now you mastering RUclips as well as the masters. You are the master. Well played mate. It was great to watch you win at the highest standard.
Love this. No fancy editing, shots didn't go as planned, informative. It just felt real and very relatable compared to other videos. Videos like this will help a ton.
and he still makes a century while chatting away :)
@ very talented. I posted on Hendry’s channel that I was never really a fan of Murphy as a person. But I think I’m slowly becoming a fan haha. I guess I’ll eat my hat!
God this is EXACTLY what people want, a full unedited frame with what you're doing and your thinking behind it, excellent
Respect to Shaun. Refreshing to be 20 mins into a video and barely 1 shot goes as planned.
Yeah, respect to Shaun for keeping it real. 👍
Huge respect for not doing lots of takes to get a "perfect" frame. This is quickly becoming my favourite snooker RUclips channel 👌
This is absolutely amazing, the explanation of why, if's, do's and don'ts. This was the greatest frame of content I've ever seen. Thanks, Murphy.
By a significant margin, this is the single most valuable upload on RUclips about how to play the game (and I've probably seen them all!). What an incredible insight into the depth of analysis required and how to improve decision-making. Bravo, Shaun!
Best snooker tutorial video I’ve ever seen
Honest video without any editing.
Fair play to you Shaun for not editing those early misses.
Shaun gets so much stick and yet he stays so positive. It's a very good example on how to live your life.
I love the streamlined intro and no background music. It's not attention soaking like 99% of videos nowdays, it's simple, elegant and professional looking. A bit like old school quality youtube videos. LOVE IT
If I had the chance to pick a player for a chat and a pint it would be this man. Congrats on the 147 and the Masters title Shaun.
Completely agree, he’s a great ambassador for the game and I’ve always liked seeing him do well
Had the pleasure of meeting Shaun a year ago at Landywood snooker club. It was a quiet Monday and I was in the star table room with my friend. Shaun, Dominic Dale and Hendry for a game of doubles and a pint.
Couldn't agree more.😂 He has such a great manner.Andy is a joy to listen to
Yeah, Shaun's sound as a pound. Would be a great guy to go for a pint with.
I wish more people appreciated how bloody hard this game is
Having great players making it look easy doesn't help!
Now this is an absolute S-tier analysis of a snooker frame from a triple crowner 👑
One of your most interesting Videos, I learned a lot, thank you! Hope for more frames like this in the next weeks!!

This deserves to be a regular series on the channel, very informative, thank you and congratulations! 🎉
Agreed. It would naturally be different every time.
agree entirely, would be great to see a few more walk through videos like this.
Great video, Shaun. Thanks for showing how you assess the table and give an insight to your shot selection. It's also nice to know that even the world champion can miss the black off its spot 😀. It just shows how much concentration goes into this game.

Thanks Shaun. What a class to make a century with so much details from a pro's mind. Congratulations to your Masters win.
We all know that you can walk the walk, but these videos are so valuable to me because you can talk the talk. Well done and thank you.👍
Shawn u are amazing and we are so happy to see u posting regularly now .. congratulations for masters and I still remember telling this to u on ur insta Q&A and it happened!
Just watched the Stephen Hendry conversation. Incredible! Cheers Shaun!!
This is fast becoming my third favourite snooker channel.

Such a humble person. Any other player would have edited misses or not put the video out. What a great teacher!
Really interesting to hear your thought process. Makes watching you guys playing easier to understand. Thanks!!
I love this... That's something I wanted for ages! Thank you
Utterly invaluable lesson. Love the formula, love the camera angle. Love your commitment. Watching this channel grow 😊
I enjoyed this video more than I anticipated
Thank for the Shaun ‘s details explanation of the snooker 🎱 skills that no doubt inspired everyone of us who loves to play snooker ❤🎉
A master class
Thank you Shaun for this interesting video. What I got from it is that even one of the best players in the world can, at times, struggle with cue ball control and is subject to an element of chance. A most enjoyable watch
"And today I'm going to play a full frame against myself"
Later...
"Listen doctor, I'm not crazy. It's the other Shaun. He made me do it."
See Richard Herring for madness during self playing snooker
I hope to see off the blue into the pack. I know resetting can be a pain, just use the pink, as in most cases you want to go into the pink anyway. It will give a lot of viewers good knowledge of where to hit the blue to get perfectly on the pink from different angles. Thanks Shaun, great videos!!

It just looks so easy and effortless. I love knowing how a player thinks during a frame. There wasn't much safety needed in this, but a tactical frame video would be epic.
Fantastic, Shaun! Please make this as a series!!🎉
I learned loads from this
Great to hear your thought process going into each shot.
I would love to see more like this
Brilliant watch Shaun, and reassuring that even the Masters champion can miss a few every now and again 😁 keep the videos coming, they are quality 👍🏻
Great video, it’s enormously enlightening to hear a player of your stature explaining the thought process through the frame.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for not putting any music over this video and respect for keeping in the 'warts-and-all' start to the frame. Fantastic, informative video. Also congratulations on the Masters title, you played an absolute blinder!
What a legend you are mate this helps us so much!

Thank you for your excellent commentary during this frame!!

Scrapiest frame played by the Greatest teacher I have ever seen. 😀
Fantastic, great insight into thought process of a frame
You are doing great! Please don't loose your passion and objectiveness, like so many others!
Wouderful video!! Really enjoy this
First ever video I watched full video without skipping 😍❤️
Oh man l LOVE THIS VIDEO. I need more videos like this Shaun!!!
Talking and playing simultaneously is so difficult… Great job sir!
Very nice, Shaun!
I've enjoyed watching you play against yourself 😂
Every frame is different, you should do one of these every month or even play a full match v yourself over the course of a series of videos. Great to have a current Pro creating this type of content, well done for sensing the opportunity. But no, ketchup is not for fillet steak 😕
Absolutely.Fascinating stuff, so glad you're back congratulations on winning The masters really looking forward to more videos like this one.
Fantastic concept. Thanks SM
Well done Shaun! Excellent content!
Very insightful and enjoyable

I realy enjoyed this video and i recommend to do that more so we can learn different type of strategies❤
Really enjoyed this. Very interesting and well explained.
Thank you very much Shaun, this video is top quality, cheers.

It's a little funny when you say "like thousands of times before, it's the colours off their spots". I've managed that twice... 😂
When I'm playing with my mates, we're often lucky to have two or three colours still on their spots when we get to the yellow.
@castleanthrax1833 same here!
mate Shaun your channel is gold.
Loved this video Shaun....the content reflects your personality, honest and sharing.
Great content and definitely got a new subscriber 😊...all the best for the Worlds this year😊
Liking your work Shaun !
Would love to see a doubles match between you two and both of the Richard Herrings.
Maybe Shaun could do Bryson style challenges, but snooker obviously. I can imagine him doing the golf ones aswell 😂
I would love more videos like this. Thank you for your insight (:
Thanks for this sean, channel is great.
