  • Ep 22 | What Did Jesus Mean in Matthew 18:19? | Redeeming Truth
In Matthew 18:19 Jesus said, "Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." Does this mean that if two people pray together or lay their hands on something that God will do anything they ask?
In this episode of #RedeemingTruth, Pastors Jon Benzinger and Costi Hinn explain the context of Matthew 18:19 and what it means for the church.

Thanks, for putting this into context. I've heard this verse and used it myself, but now I know better and I can share this with my church family.

This was so helpful! I've allowed WOF teachings to creep into my interpretation of scripture for years now, but in the last 6 months or so, I've been renewing my mind with the help of you, Costi, Justin Peters, Chris Rosebrough, Steven Bancarz, Doreen Virtue, Mike Winger, and others. I had to use white out in my Bible after listening to this and reading carefully for myself. I had a note and other scriptures written next to Matt 18:19 that twisted what is actually being said. AAAAWWWW! Freedom and relief, and tears! Thank you for speaking truth!

If we begin and end every request with IF IT BE GOD'S WILL, we would eliminate a lot of misuse of scriptures.

THANK YOU for bringing clarity to verse 19. I have been saved out of a charismatic-pentecostal church (I was part of a Vineyard church in Cape Town, South Africa) and verses 18 to 20 have been taught out of context. We did demon deliverance and used these 3 verses out of context. We've prayed for the deaf to hear, the blind to see,the lame to walk and cancer to be cured and have used these Scriptures AAAANND when healing never happened we were told "it's not God's will to heal now, maybe God will heal the person at a later stage"
So, thank you for teaching good Bible study practices because they are helping me to read scripture within context.

Having come out from the Pentecostal/Charismatic group, this just shows me over and over again how untaught that group is.

Thank you for speaking on this chapter. A lot of people use verse 20 as an excuse not to go to church...i.e. I don't need to ever go if I watch church on t.v. (outside of quarantine of course).

Is this a continued series? Because this definitely needs to be. There are hundreds of most quoted verses that are taken out of context that need to be addressed. Thank you gentlemen!

Thank you so much for that, we have often been involved with verses 15-17 ministering to people who have sinned and, yes, wisdom is so needed!

I can give you one thing he did not mean, because it was once done to a friend who never fully recovered from the trauma - "if a brother's attitude offends, kick 'im to the curb!" That is to terminate a years long relationship with a friend and brother based solely upon a, believable in the moment, story told by another. Has this happened to you, then you are called blessed by the LORD who has all the authority - even to the end of the age! :P
