Another possible easter egg I'd like to bring to light in the episode "Heart of Steel Part 1": Karl Rossum was the head of Cybertron Industries. Cybertron is also the name of the home planet of the Autobots and Decepticons in the Transformers franchise (which debuted in 1984), so this may be a nod to such.
Granted, I never noticed it until rewatching the episode not too long ago. When I heard it, I was stunned. I'm a diehard Transformers fan as well as a fan of this cartoon, so that was more or less a fandom double-whammy for me.
In the Grey Ghost, Adam West's character is despondent because he can't find acting work bc he is typecast as the Grey Ghost, which unfortunately was true for Mr West.
Dude if I were to be typecast as any character it would be an iconic comic book character, there are worst characters actors can be linked to, I mean look at Mr. Frieze Arnold will never live that one down.
Great list one you missed in “be a clown” in jokers hide out he points to a poster of a magician named prosciutto, it’s the likeness of famed writer of killing joke Alan Moore who in real life is a practitioner of magic & the occult
Of course, whenever the Joker says something Italian it's a bit of an Easter egg, since it's from Italian culture that we ultimately get our basic idea of the clown. (Harley Quinn herself is based on Harlequin, a character from Lombardese folklore.) And hey, being in the Mob is Italian enough on its own! The Joker's old mentor? Salvatore Valestra!
there was a whole episode that was a Homage to the island of Dr. Moreau that also caused some new furries to happen cause it featured catwoman turned into an actual CATWOMAN
Also can't forget about Jack Napier being Joker's real name also in the cartoon where Batman is sent to Arkham and the psychiatrist mentions Joker and the other's real names
"Almost Got 'Im" had Easter eggs to both the Tonight Show (with Johnny Carson) and Late Night With David Letterman. At the time, both references made a lot of sense, but now they're rather dated. The 2nd Mr. Freeze episode had a nudge-nudge Easter egg to the rumor/theory that Walt Disney was cryogenically frozen; it's done with the villain of that episode being a demented, darker version of Disney, and... well, you saw how that episode ended.
In "Harley's Holiday", an end fight scene with Robin wielding fish and Batman using a pole duplicates the same fight choreography as some of Bruce Lee's moves from the dungeon fight scene of "Enter the Dragon".
More reasons to enjoy BTAS! Love these nods and little Easter eggs sprinkled into the show! Hardacs inventor was based on the inventor from Blade Runner and the blonde robot was based on Marilyn Monroe !
I literally just watched the Off Balance episode last night. As soon as I saw Twitch I immediately figured this must be a Tim Burton easter egg. Glad to know I was right...and here we are.
There's another nod to psycho in batman taste. I dont remember the episode name but it's when clayface returned. His body was breaking down he was performing a series of robberies against rich Gotham citizens. He was helped by a doctor who was a medical consultant in most of his films. Her last name was bates, she was in love with Matt Hagan & owned a hotal. Batman mentions she sold to help finance the treatments to temp stabilize clayface.
Those episodes were * chef kiss *. Seeing the writers lean heavy on the tap-root of 2 of my favourite SciFi movies (Blade Runner & West World) was an utter delight growing up. I think BtAS holds up so well because the writers mostly wrote stories & vignettes that 'talk' with the viewer, rather than writing material that the viewer simply witnesses. Which is not to say the latter is inherently bad, it just tends to lean heavy on situational setups & gag-humour that are prone to loosing potency with age.
@@tokyodeathghoul2313 yeah but just because BTAS did it, it does not mean the Harley show was paying reference or homage to it. Its a popular cliche scene, one especially made to promote powerful and rebellious women. They are not mirrored in the episodes, for starters Ivy is driving in BTAS.
The Shadow was indeed a major influence and inspiration for Batman. Its a shame Batman: The Animated Series never adapted DC's Batman #s 253 & 259 where Batman met & teamed up with the Shadow.
I'm just here to make sure they mention "Breyfogle". It was a street mentioned in the Clock King episode and named after beloved 90s Batman artist, Norm Breyfogle. He died about two years ago but he will live forever! * Edit * they didn't. 😥
There's another huge Easter Egg in regards to Psycho; in the episode "Mudslide", Dr. Stella Bates sells her families hotel in order to build a lab to help Matt Hagen, aka Clayface regain his humanity. The name Bates and the hotel are a clear reference to The Bates Motel from Psycho.
Batman Forever certainly was a great take on the 1960s Adam West series. It was a fun movie- far more than one can say of the 1997 Batman & Robin, whose only saving grace was George Clooney's take on Bruce Wayne.
I would assume that rosebud was a call back to the episode in which she is introduced. She save an endangered species of rose & uses a toxin derived from it to try & kill Harvey Dent. Also you can infer from later stories of Harly & Ivy that she helped her ecape partly because of an attraction.
I wasn't a fan of him, but I did thoroughly like the character for being self-aware he had his share of skeletons & sins; and was semi-atoning for them.
One of my favorites is from a Clayface episode, Mudslide. When Clayface is deteriorating, he’s taken in by Dr. Stella Bates. Dr. Bates name is a reference to not only the Bates of the Psycho movie yet again but also an iconic line from A Streetcar Named Desire. Marlon Brando’s character, Stanley, at one point shouts out “STELLA!” in a fit of sadness, which cemented itself as an iconic line and is often cited for cementing both Brando and method acting into cinema forever.

There are two episodes with major superman (and maybe even flash) easter eggs, which nobody seems to have noticed. For a long time i was curious, if superman exists in the original btas, since it had a bit serious, almost kinda nolanish tone, when it came to crossovers with supernatural characters. I mean, till tnba i had a feeling, as if superman didn't even existed in the tas universe. And here is the answer: in the second mr. Freeze episode called deep freeze, batman and robin visit carl rossum, who is only creating toys at that time, and there we get to see two important toys- mr.mxzpitlk (whatever) and krypto- the superman's dog, with obvious superman red cape, and even yellow sign of a superman mark on the cape. Than there was the second clock king episode called 'time out of joint', where the clock king had a time warping device, stolen from a scientist. Batman and robin use that device as well, to battle the clock king. While using it, robin notices:" faster than a speeding bullet" which is an obvious superman homage. Than in the climax, batman is taking a bomb to explode to the river, again while using the time warping device, so the time is running in a slow motion, and batman is able to run on the river what can possibly be the flash easter egg. Also in the episode 'make em laugh' with joker using mad hatter's mind controlling tech on commedians (yes, the condiment king episode) where in the climax, when joker is trying to escape on a giant balloon (possibly a batman 89 easter egg as well) he says: "up up, and awaaay !" A line, which needs no introducion.
I think we should see a affectation with wider meaning like a symbol represents a organisation, like a double meaning has it's own meaning. To identify with something...well.
I've always wondered why the chemical factory in the 1989 film is called "Axis" rather than "Ace" (its more proper name, which it's gotten in the recent Harley Quinn movies). One film critic has pointed out that Batman is shown standing in front of it, and he theorized that Tim Burton was trying to suggest that Batman brutally imposes law and order whatever the cost, the same way the Axis Powers wanted to do during World War II. But I don't like that interpretation. I think a better theory is that Axis Chemicals produces poison gas used as a murder weapon by the Joker, who as portrayed by Jack Nicholson comes off as almost a Hitler-like maniac, since he wants to exterminate everyone in Gotham City and refers to their being "useless" and inferior ("life unworthy of life") at the parade. "Smylex" even reminds me a lot of "Zyklon B", the poison gas used in the Nazi death camps.
Was the tie-in comics for JL/JLU animated series non-canon? Because apparently, Count Vertigo could have gotten a revamped design after potentially surviving his fall.
Speaking of Rosebud without spoiling Citizen Kane, Kane was based on mogul William Randolph Hearst and "Rosebud" was rumored to be the name he gave his girlfriend's "lady parts" (the clean way to say it). Not surprisingly, Hearst's newspapers destroyed the movie. Though Batman's writers may not have intended that part of the reference.
