      If they had the ball and ended up turning it over it'd be different. You were on defense and best case is to not allow points and get the tie. Usually a tie is something teams want to avoid but it would've gotten both into the playoffs so it really didn't matter.
      So yeah I agree, horrible call. The 27-0 comeback is different because it's not one decision you can point to. It's hard to get the momentum after losing it and many teams have collapsed before.

    As someone who took AP Stats, Staley's pseudo-analytics infuriated me to no end. The main rule in stats is that statistics don't actually tell you what to do because they don't take context into account. Staley ignores this and (almost) always goes with the face-value version.
    The most extreme example I can illustrate is this (NOTE: He never did this, it's just an extreme to make an example): On 4th down, QB Sneak is the play with the best conversion chance.
    A normal person would hear this and think of the context: Teams normally go for it on 4th down when especially close to converting (4th and 1 for example). On 4th and 10, a normal person would not go for this.
    Staley would read QB Sneak = best and thus go for QB Sneak on every 4th down.
    That's how he reads it and it always goes wrong, especially because he always lets the OC choose the worst play. He goes ultra-aggressive when he does not need to, then, at the end of the game where he pissed away 10+ points because he's allergic to field goals for some reason, offense has to go for it, same issues occur as earlier and now it's magically Herbert's fault that Staley is a complete dumbfuck who should've been fired years ago and is constantly forcing his team to play close rather than taking the free points.

    • @anthonylee512
      @anthonylee512 5 месяцев назад +3

      His fourth down plays and NEVER going for the points cost us so many games. I can remember the chiefs game last year where he just didn’t go for the points and we lost 9 points cause of it

    • @navonmyhand7999
      @navonmyhand7999 5 месяцев назад +1

      The thing about following "the analytics" is that you still have to execute the plays and call smart plays. The Chargers consistently fumbled those situations with bad plays as if they simply thought going for it was more than half the battle by didn't properly assess how good they were at it.

    I stopped watching this game 2 minutes into the 2nd quarter.. it was already that hard to watch that soon into the game.. I couldn’t help but laugh when I checked the final score when I woke up the next day.. chargers should’ve fired Telesco and Staley after the 2021 season.. Staley is far far worse than his 24-24 record shows.. he’s lucky to have that 24-24 record and the only reason he has it is because his team was so talented they made up for his incompetence.. Marty Schottenheimer would’ve made multiple deep playoff runs and probably an AFC championship game with the roster Staley had.. heck the chargers would probably have multiple chips if they never fired Marty.. worst decision in the franchises history..

The Rams last season sucked due to injuries and the Chargers attendance was better than theirs despite having slightly more fans (raiders have the biggest fan base in LA out of pro football teams). Staley just never seemed to get out of his own way. His "interesting" decision making was expected in year 1 due to the steep learning curve to be a head coach. But he never seemed to learn from his mistakes and just kept doubling down on them. The arrogance he showed this year was just sad to see.
    I've always had a soft spot for the Chargers but honestly, Dean Spanos has ruined so much goodwill with whatever remains of his fanbase. Someone should buy the team and return it to San Diego where it belongs.

    The cap situation is a little over blown in my opinion. And it’s really not a hard decision. You cut all but maybe 4 players on expensive deals without question. Most of those guys you mentioned have availability issues so it’s no great loss.
    Spend one year establishing culture and getting the draft picks right. And then one year from now the team is in a much better place and rebuild can proceed after the reset.
    You come to the chargers and you get a franchise QB, a franchise left tackle and the chance to build this team from the ground up. That’s a pretty exciting opportunity.

      Usually when people make statements like this, they throw in, at the very least, one example to back up their claim, preferably more. Realistically, I don’t think it would be too much to just list all of them considering it’s a short video and there aren’t many statements made anyway, correct, incorrect, or otherwise.
      Can’t really say something like “oh man, this video is just riddled with errors” and then slink away and let them try to figure out what you’re talking about.

    Actually, injuries ARE his fault. At least partially. There is a reason good coaches experience less injury plagued seasons than bad ones. Mainly conditioning, but also the mind to know the match ups, field conditions, and then adjust game plans and individual plays/equipment appropriately. Even Justin's injury, which seems like pure bad luck: But what if the line had better conditioning? Would that helmet be in that spot with even a 2% timing differential from a stronger push from the line?
    Yes it is someone else's job to do all those things, but good coaches can and will do them too so that the performance of those subordinates stays high and so the coaching/conditioning/etc is incorporated.

    It's about goddamn time man. I swear it hurts being a Chargers fan sometimes. Blowing leads, boneheaded decisions, the game last night, etc. Staley has been trash ever since he stepped foot in LA.
    As a Chargers fan, I just hope we get someone worth a damn and at least hit the playoffs for once in god knows when. Or just a decent fucking record at the end of the season and our roster is used to their potential correctly if any of that made sense.

    Sorry Brandon, you might be a nice guy, but you were not a good HC. Not taking the tie and missing the playoffs due to it in 2021 against Vegas, the complete embarrassment of Jax coming back from a 27 point deficit to beat LA in the playoffs in 2022, and Thursday night with that absolute ass beating that Vegas (popping up once again) gave y'all. Three strikes, and you're out out out.

    • @dannyevilcat
      @dannyevilcat 5 месяцев назад

      Aside from some big names to attract the LA crowd, many of whom are often injured, the roster lacks depth, so the injuries hurt even more. For instance, the offensive line lives and dies on whether Linsley plays. His drafting has been poor, and as good as Ek has been the last few years, he's not a proper RB, and their run game has sucked for years. Plus, getting a proper HC to run the roster is his decision as well.
      So, no, Telesco needed to go as well, which is a shame, because he really does seem like a good dude.
