Love these (very few) channels with highly experienced professional photographers sharing their knowledge. As opposed to youtubers making you feel bad because you are not shelling out on this year’s “big thing.” They are very generous with their knowledge and advice. Thanks Martin you are a great and rare example of this!
Kev thanks so much that’s high praise indeed I will try to live up to it in the future!
Sold my 5d mark ii 2 months ago then missed it so much that I bought one again today.
Ur too lucky u have money🙂
@@labajomtvince545 waited for a bargain and travelled 67 miles to buy it.
I only have 500D hahaha😅
Yawh Mheng, dont worry about the gear so much, youtube makes people too gear focussed, you can totally do everything you need on a 500d. you are the photographer, not the camera.
I did the same oh my God bro i felt so bad that i bought another more expensive but cleaner qnd i was so happy again.
One of my favorite RUclips channels! I have learned so much from this man. Thank you!
Glad its useful for you Paul!!!!!!
Still one of the best cameras ever made Martin. Beautiful images mate, great work.
Hi Adrian, yeah its a really good camera still and its been good for me so far. thanks for watching
Gorgeous shots. I just tried a 5d Mk II today and was surprised and impressed at the quality of the images coming out of a 15+ year old camera. RUclipsrs are too gear-focused, but you've got your feet on the ground. Thanks.
Lovely images, this video also shows the hard graft to get the shot!
This video deserves millions of view.
Thank you!
Very capable camera. For studio, landscapes, architecture and weddings. I still use mine today as a back up for 5dsr for these types. Canon 5d miv for wildlife and action. With two 7d mii bodies as wildlife backups.
Really interesting video had you edited the images or were they straight out of the camera?
First time here... I love the pictures you took and the final results .. truly amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us.
well thank you very much! hope you will watch more in the future!
Great images Martin. I've been there in the summer, it's an awesome place!
Thanks! Lovely place
I used a 5D2 for 8 years and I absolutely adored it! I still think 12 years after its introduction it's a great camera so it's really nice to see it being used here. I am wondering how you managed to shoot in the daytime at ISO 100, f/14, and 1/8000 though!
Thanks Paul it’s a great camera going to use my Mark 1 soon as well. I will check the exposure settings again pretty sure I made mistake 🤪
I was asking myself the exact same question. F14 1/8000 ISO 100, really? 😃. I've just ventured into photography so didn't want to fork out big money. I researched like hell and opted for a 5D mkII for which I paid £450. The one I found only had 8430 actuations, so for a camera so old, it was relatively little used. Yes, I could fork out more cash and get more options, but the way I see it, its like the dishwasher or washing machine with multiple settings, you invariably only ever use one or two settings. So my 5D does all I need at my level. Great video, stunning location 😃.
Just bought a 5dmkii for landscapes, looking forward to getting out and about. :)
Excellent hope you will enjoy it, mine finally died was very heavily used it was tough as anything
Love it.
When you said “Caaar Park” that song by Squeeze popped into my head lol
🤣
Super SUPERB ! WonderFULL.
Kindly askin' for your settings.
Amazing photos.I am also into nature photography, using my old Canon 30D (I really love the colors from it)with a Tamron 17-50 F2.8. I have just got an offer from a friend to take over his 5D MKII with a 17-40 F4L for 400 pounds. Should I go for it? Thanks
That’s an amazing deal I’d say yes
Nothing like a fresh day in the mountains! Nice video and great pictures, Martin! Those settings made me wonder though, ISO 100, f14, 1/8000sec - is that correct?
It was a mistype sorry Kalle I know it wasn’t that i don’t know if I put on the comments as a few spotted the error
@@MartinCastein No worries, we all make errors sometimes, I just couldn't believe it was that lit.
No you are totally right !
i got a 5dii and still love it i want to buy a new one this year i'm in doubt between 5Div or the 5d r s i do 90% landscape
I’d get the 5dsr IF you are sticking to mostly landscapes the 5div is the better all purpose camera. Although I’d say it depends what the other 10% of what you do is
@@MartinCastein i'm don't use high iso or need a touchscreen the other 10% i shoot are sometimes at events like militracks, and like to do macro thats it
Would you say the 5D mark 2 has better colours than 40D? Thanks and great video as usual
Personally I’d say yes it depends what you like though but I prefer the 5d ii
This was very interesting to see., We are planning to dedicate an entire episode of the Photography Live Show to the Canon 5d MkII. Could we showcase some of your videos as part of that live session? Credited ofcourse
Yes as long as you credit that’s fine 🙂
Pleas make videos of your post production and editing.thanks
Hi Martin . Great video.I came across this as I'm planning to purchase a second hand Canon 5d mark iii. That path your on was one we worked on about 6 years ago at about the same time of year! Really like the photos you took!👍
thanks Andrew, its a great area, hope you will enjoy the mark iii, its a great camera for sure, especially if you can take it to Scotland!
Oh my GOOOOOD
Fantastic pictures.
Thank you 🙏
Great video mate, keep them coming!
HI mate, thanks, hope you are doing well
The last image was shot at f14 and 1/8000 ?
I think I put the down incorrectly I will check!
So have a 5D mark ii with no batteries or cf card yet, but know nothing about photography and what it takes to make a photo a photo. Was really impressed with the shots and wondering if you have to do a lot of post editing, or are those the raw images you can get out of the 5D mkii?
Will take another week for the stuff to arrive and just want to try and get the most knowhow out of the weeks waiting.
I edit in a software program called lightroom, sometimes I use photoshop too but often not for my landscapes. I’d suggest you start to look into editing as digital isn’t lie film, film looks better straight out of camera and is easier in that regard where raw files are meant to be edited. What you or I call a lot is subjective but I don’t feel they are heavily edited, though sometimes some of my shots are and sometimes it’s next to nothing.
wow stunningg
Thanks!
Interesting how the image at 5:50 is superior to the one at 6 minutes. The leading lines on the mountain on the right and the lighting make the wider shot the better one. A deer would have been nice at the water; I only see them during the mating season when they mate with cars which runs all year here, unlike the pest removal season euphemistically called hunting season which is far too short. So far my cars have mated several times with them. Frankly I don't know why they bother to put cows behind fences and then allow deer to roam down the streets; well I do know but will not say here.
Canon does a nice job on rendering colors in camera, if you adjust the jpeg settings to taste. Nice images.
Thanks John, a deer would have been nice when i wanted them they ran away!
Hey Martin , hope your are well. I have really enjoyed your channel, you have really been helping me understand ND filters. I was curious about what filters you used by choice for this shoot in this episode? thank you in advance.
Hi there thanks, I didn’t use any filters on this at all. I only use an nd filter for long exposures you don’t need any filters really, they are left over from film days really.
Good one. I wonder the photos look like 4k quality. How come? Did you upscale? If upscale from 5D M2 gives 4k like result, nothing like it... pls guide.
5d mark 2 has 21megapixel sensor so it’s photos are easily bigger than 4K. Hope that helps.
@@MartinCastein Thank You. so technically if I shoot 1080p video on this camera and upscale to 4k, will it look like 4k? I saw few videos and upscaled 4k from 1080p still looks like 1080p. Please guide.
This is not filmed on a 5d mark ii it’s filmed an a canon R the photos are on a 5d mark ii. As for video you can upscale to 4k but video on the 5d ii isn’t good for 2022.
If you want a cheap video camera get a canon m50 and upscale to 4k
@@MartinCastein Thank you. Agree...
Nice shots but you should've showed the SOOC results too.
Thanks Martin, great work! I wish, I could also be there (it was planned, but ... ;-) Enjoy!
Ahhh, i only got the trip in just in time i was back a week before things changed, another time! thanks!
1/8000th ???
Few extra zeroes there?
Yes lol made a mistake there!
What about 5d classic in 2020 For landscape? Should i go for it?
If you can live without the live view then why not. I will be using mine sometimes too, you might need to bracket your exposures often
Martin Castein Got it. Will be waiting for 5d landscape photographs.
what location is this......Scotland?
Hi, yes its at the Kings House in Scotland in Glencoe.
@@MartinCastein OK thanks for the info.
What is the lens ??
canon 17-40 f4 i think
Hi big bro, what is the objective here?
You can't just be in pain from the cold, you need to be properly in pain.
Stop using outdated cameras :)
hahaha love you Amar hahaha
@@MartinCastein 5D is still a good one :-)
