  • (Visit: www.uctv.tv) Brahms composed the Trio in E-flat Major in 1865 to commemorate the death of his mother, Christiane, earlier that year. The four movements of the piece represent the stages of mourning, alternating sombre with lively and ending on a note of hope for the future. Recorded on 8/16/2014. Series: "La Jolla Music Society: SummerFest" [12/2014] [Arts and Music] [Show ID: 28870]

I fell in love with this piece in 1968 while a dance major at Interlochen Arts Academy. I choreographed a dance to the entire piece, and was priveleged to have my group dance it to a live performance of this wonderful music, played by my fellow students at the Academy. I will never forget that experience.

Fantastic performance. Thank you for not bogging down the first movement which seems to be the norm.

The pianist deserves a lot more credit. As a pianist myself, I can say that this is a very difficult part, especially the 4th mvt. Bravo!

The pianist should be regarded as an equal partner, in my opinion. Each instrument is featured beautifully in this piece.

It is true that he composed it just after the death of his mother but sticking the various movements to personal feelings or reactions to that event seems me a bit hazardous.
