- Attacks on non-Muslims on September 6-7
After the news that Atatürk's house was bombed, those who started to gather in Taksim Square towards the evening hours started to destroy Greek Cypriot shops by moving towards Istiklal Street with slogans and banners.
While the events spread all over Istanbul, the attacks were soon replaced by looting of shops. 59 Percent of the attacked and looted workplaces belonged to Greeks, 17 percent belonged to Armenians, and 12 percent belonged to Jews.
According to official sources, 4,214 houses, a thousand businesses, 73 churches and 26 schools were destroyed in the context of the events of September 6-7. According to the human rights organization Helsinki Watch, 15 people were killed in the incidents.
