Small error: Pellegrini’s party is not SMER, but HLAS. Smer was his party, until he left and formed a new one. Hlas is now the junior partner in Smer’s Fico’s government.

@@rudolfnosek1748 During the 2020 election, Pellegrini was the new leader of the party - they advertised it as "the new wind in the party", while Fico was still technically a chairman. Pellegrini then wanted to become the new chairman, but Fico disagreed. That's why Pellegrini made his own party accompanied with most of the highest ranked party members. I think an important element for Le Pen is that she doesn't care too much about European politics.
The main prize for her are the French presidency and parliament for which she needs a majority of French voters in the second round... Which can only happen if she has a respectable image.
She's been working for a while on distancing herself from the History of her party (with some neonazis and extreme stuff).
She has to be super cautious with her alliances because of that, if her alliance gets one big scandal it could scare tons of voters in France who currently don't consider her to be an extremist or a racist.

The thing with chega is that unlike these parties in the patriot group and in their previous group (ID), chega is pro-ukraine, and generally pro-nato / atlanticism (only soft eurosceptic). if they join órban's group they will be a lot of internal pressure in portugal for them to explain why sit side by side with putin's friends. Remember that the pro-ukraine position is very popular in Portugal, it has been actually a pretty hard topic for the portuguese communist party (PCP) which is against support for ukraine, and have a pro-russia stance (they say they are in favor of peace, but everybody knows it would be a peace in putin's terms)

Orban can only speak for himself but in Eastern Europe, Poland, Romania, Baltic nations and Finland do support Ukraine. that is a fact. and Eastern Europe is a conservative region of Europe.
also this so called "friendship" of Orban with Putin is exaggerated nonsense.
Putin's greatest friend before this war in Ukraine was Germany.
Germany made Russia and Putin rich because Germany is the manufacturing industry of Europe and needed Russian energy for all those cars.
Hungary is a nobody for Russia.
and Hungary isn't stupid either to give up on the rest of Europe just to have Russia.
Russian economy is smaller than even the US state of Texas. or Canada and Australia.

There's also the proposed "The Sovereignists" group, supposedly to be headed by Germany's AfD and Bulgaria's Vazrazhdane/Revival. Several small far-right parties were supposedly also interested. Given the fact that Patriots for Europe already would have enough MEPs in terms of absolute numbers, it wouldn't be unreasonable for them to try and get far-right politicians who are their party's sole representative (e.g. the one NIKI/NIKH delegate from Greece) to join them instead of The Sovereignists or Identity or Democracy.
Plus ID indeed is in a weird position right now: with the FPÖ and Chega interested in leaving, it could fall below the seven member country threshold. Of the ten ID parties that got seats in the European Parliament this election, two were removed (AfD& Revival) and two want to leave and are treating themselves as Non-Inscrits (Chega & FPÖ), while a fifth might leave (Lega).
There's a clear splintering and shifting happening on the European far-right. Personally I hope that they don't manage to reorganize themselves, but it's quite likely that the far-right will manage to form two or three working EU Parliament groups.
Personally I could see ID splitting itself between the ECR and Patriots for Europe: the Danish People's Party (DF), the Party for Freedom (PVV), and National Rally (RN) could reasonably switch to the ECR. The DF was part of that group before and the PVV and RN would probably fit in there, too, due to the dominance of Meloni's Brothers of Italy (FdI). Lega and Vlaams Belang might join the Patriots for Europe. None of the parties currently in ID seem like they'd wanna join The Sovereignists. The AfD baggage is too much.

The thing with European "patriotic" parties is that they are all right-wing (as if a left-wing party cannot love their country?!) and usually consist of people who want to get into power, stay in it, and create a cult of personality around them. They are all following the Asian model of right-wing "republics". Orban is just the current most prominent member of the group in EU at the moment. But you had similar situation in Montenegro until recently ("patriotic" leader who legally ruled for over 30 years), you have the same issue in Serbia ("patriot" in power for 13 years and counting, no indication of him leaving any time soon), in Bosnia as well as well as some other countries in Europe.
They get to power by proclaiming that they are true patriots, and then stay in power by dismantling any and all checks on their power (because they are "unpatriotic") to stay as long as possible and to get as much financial gain as possible.
And people are still falling for it, over and over again. Those leaders sell them some meta stories about world politics while they wallets are getting thinner and thinner - and if you say something about it, it is always the same response "How can you say that, we have bigger issues at hand that threaten our life as we know it! Look at these LGBT people, look at these western NGOs, look at these migrants (that don't want to stay in those countries anyway but go to Germany and Scandinavia region)"... all the while your country is getting poorer, your liberties melt away and those "patriots" get richer than emperors of old.
Basically, Putin-wanna-be leaders... which is why they are all on very good terms with the Euroasian Butcher in Kremlin.

When I watch these videos about Groups of European Parlaiment, I wonder what would change if my country(Turkey🇹🇷) joins EU because Turkey is a large country so political parties in Turkey would gain higher percentages of MEPs than other political parties in other EU members. So if political parties in Turkey agree with Groups in EU parlaiment, those Groups would hit an absolute JACKPOT. For example if Turkey's CHP joins the S&D Group which is really likely to happen if Turkey joins the EU in future, S&D would get a big boost. A similar thing would apply to AKP too. They have a huge voter capacity and it has the 6th highest amount of members as a political party in the world.

CHP is too chauvinistic party for S&P. It's closer to LePen's nationalistic rhetoric. And there is no chance that Turkey will ever join as long as there is VETO on the table. They have ABUSED their veto so many times and they think that veto is a tool for blackmail till thei get everything they demand.
EU is not an anatolian bazaar and if that country ever joins, then EU would be dissolved within 3 months of staling every progress.
I can't imagine Turkey in the EU even in my worst nightmares.

It is hard to describe ANO's program, because it doesn't really have any. It started like a liberal (socialy-left) and economicly-center pro-European party with anti-corruption claims taking advantage of people's dissappiontment with established parties. It has succeded after its oligarchic leader Andrej Babiš bought the most influential media company in Czechia (that shoul be a red flag for any voter, but sadly isn't).
The party turned to be a club of loyal servants of economic interest of its billionaire leader whose governance consisted of buing poorer voters and pensionist by increasing public spending, especially pensions, and taking over state structures for Babiš's copanies to more effectively draw European funds and state subsidies as well as getting rid of copetition and preventing investigation of fraud. What pretended to be an anti-corruption platform turnet out to be a capture-state vehicle.
ANO's professional, expensive and effective campaign focuses exlusively on topics important for target audience (which has changed significantly from educated liberals to people from troubled regions and pensionists). During his time as the prime minister, Babiš was prosecuted for fraud and investigated by EU for abusing its funds. He started attacking EU and got into political isolation, which pused him closer to other pariahs like Orban.
The party has been shifting step by step to social-right, focusing on anti-immigration and "anti-war" sentiment without providing any real solutions. His current policy is social-right, economic-left, high-spending anti-establishment mix and his most effective strattegy is blaming others for all problems and attacking any critics, especially journalist, civic society and anti-corruption NGOs. He is a demonstration of how much you can achieve in politics with unlimited funds and no moral restraints.
Babiš has no real policy to push in EU apart from abusing more EU funds. His alliance with Orbán and related steps are solely made to appease domestic audience before Czech parliamentary elections. He doesn't want to leave EU because his companies are dependent on EU funds but he has started to campaign on anti-EU sentiment to gain more voters (this might actually be true for Orbán too).
This Babiš's attempt to establish a new EU group with Orban is an open shift to far-right and clear anti-democracy move, which is both consistent with its party's trajectory and terriffiyng, as it will probably lead to even more radicalisation of his voters and the Czech politics in general.
