  • ➡️ OVERVIEW
Hi friends! Today's video is a highly anticipated review of the newly reformulated eyeshadow formula from Dior. Dior has reformulated their quints for a second time in recent years in an effort to be a clean beauty brand. In this video, I will be showcasing the differences between the old and new formula using Soft Cashmere, one of Dior's most popular eyeshadow palettes. I will be doing swatches with Soft Cashmere, as well as a demo of each formula and review of the ingredients.

We're really getting screwed with this clean beauty thing. It has no legal base, they can just remove whatever ingredients they want and say their products are clean. And mostly, that's preservatives that are well-studied and very efficient, like parabens. Those get replaced by less-well studied, most recent preservatives that aren't necessarily as safe/more safe for us, but they are also LESS EFFICIENT. All the expiration dates are getting shorter, so we'll have to replace and repurchase faster, spending more money on something that doesn't do anything more for us.

Funny that I saw the difference immediately. I don’t always notice. Softer and less contrast with the new. I definitely have concerns about the lack of smoothing. Lots of us older folk care about that. Crepey lids need a smoothing formula.

  • @loytoco
    @loytoco Год назад +54

Looking at them side by side on your eyes, I think the result is not even close. The old formula was perfection, to me: easy, durable, with no effort one would get a sophisticated and impactful look. Now, the look isn't bad, but it isn't "wow", either.
There was a price increase in Europe. We went from paying 62 euro, to then around 66, now it's 71 euro (EDIT: it seems it varies from 69 to 71 depending on the country), which is around 76 USD. It's crazy, even more so considering the economic situation in Europe. We started getting the new price with the Summer collection. I really don't like this, and I am a bit sad about it. It's just make up, but still.
I watched a couple of other reviews and it seems that the matte is generally patchy. Also, the shimmers swatch better than they perform on the eyes, I think. At least looking at them through the video. I love Dior, but this is just not the right move fo somebody like me. I have to save up to eventually buy a palette, I am not going to save up to buy an "ok" palette.

If they do not reduce the product amount AND the price for “clean beauty” the hole concept of clean beauty is a lie. This amount of products and plastic casings that is thrown away after 3-6 months because of shelf life and product amount we are used to get for the pice is NOT CLEAN at all 😢 . The big problem with Dior’s marketing claim is that there is no clearcut definition for “clean beauty”; nor is there any industry agreed upon criteria for something to be considered “clean”. Because the label “clean beauty” is unregulated, it is meaningless. Apropos cornstarch. At one time it was used extensively in products for oily skin. In the 60’s very teen had a compact of CornSilk powder because it absorbed oil like crazy-not sure I want to be putting something like that on my über dry skin.

The old formula leans more cool/ purplish on your eye. The new one is softer and leans on the warm side. They both look great on you. It depends which formula you like better.
Dior quints have always been soft. It is a French brand. “Simplicité fait la beauté.”

Thank you Sofia for reviewing the new Soft Cashmere quint (in spite of having recently purchased it in the “old” formulation - bonus: it does make for a perfect comparison). You asked so, I agree that the “old” side looks better - more intense and more pop. (Question: was the difference still visible after 3-4 hours?) My main concern is with corn starch; in addition to being an inexpensive powder-base for pigment, it is an allergen for many people, in addition to having a much shorter shelf life than talc. I wonder if Dior’s (sorry, DIOR’s) reformulation was dictated by new or upcoming EU rules regarding cosmetics.

I actually think the idea of becoming ‘clean’ is a way for companies to make even more money. Clean formulas are renowned for literally going bad and mouldy therefore if this happens it forces those of us who used ours for a lot longer than recommended without any problem, to buy new if we want to continue using the product….

Safflower oil (such a great oil for food and cosmetics) is becoming more expensive and rare. Ukraine was one of the main producers of safflower (sunflower) oil on a global scale. So I'm guessing it's more of an economic choice that Dior has decided to cut it out of the formula.

    Hi Sofia 😊
I was correct in my guess of which eye had the old formula. The lid color was much more impactful.
My thoughts. I’ve watched a few videos regarding these new pallets. Most reviewers have mentioned that the packaging was difficult to open. For me that’s a major strike. Being older with fingers having a bit of arthritic difficulty, this packaging is a no go.
The so called “clean” formula is just nonsense. The clean fad in most case’s definitely means the product will go bad much faster.
Last point is the cornstarch. Major no for me.
I’ll just enjoy the quints I already own.
Change can be good, but change for just the sake of “change” for marketing purposes is not a plus.
I’d like to know if you continue to have hard pan issues with the dark shade.
Give your Mom a Hug 🤗 for me.

I respectfully disagree. I love multiple Dior products but if they reformulate and their new formulas or components are not good- then I do have a choice. I’ll no longer spend my money on them. There are plenty of luxury brands to choose from. I really like the idea of clean beauty but not at the cost of performance. My personal experience with Dior reformulating the Forever Skin Glow foundation was not good. It used to be my go-to, # 1 favorite foundation that I repurchased time and time again. Unfortunately, the new formula caused me to break out and didn’t even look nearly as good on my skin as the old formula did. So i have been spending my hard earned $ searching for my new “holy grail” foundation from other brands. Guerlain, Chanel, Haus Labs.

I'm interested in general in an old vs new comparison of the palettes that stay in the line but in particular, I'm interested to see how the new Pied de Poule compares to Black Bow, as these are different palettes that seem to be pretty similar in the pan. I think Pied de Poule used to also be a palette in an older formula but I'm not sure if it's the same colour story.

good to know! i ahve the old soft cashmere and wanted to get two more quints. i'll go to the store and see if they have the old versions. i got mine in may and it was the old version, so they might still be around in physical stores. they're sold out everywhere online rn, probably because they are swapping the old ones out for the new ones.

Usually clean beauty is just a marketing tactic. It’s not regulated. Anyone can make up what it means to them, and it mostly relies on fear mongering, when in reality there’s nothing wrong with the ingredients they are removing/demonizing. I simply can’t subscribe to the idea, that in order to sell something, you have to scare women and then make them believe you’re the right choice because your products are “clean” 🫠

It's definitely a business tactic for sure :) otherwise they wouldn't pay all this money to reformulate something we like.

Great review thanks Sofia. Really thorough & informative 👍
My thoughts are: I think this clean beauty bandwagon is well and truly on the road!
It means for consumers who wear makeup a lot, they run out quicker and have to repurchase more often.
And for those who only use it occasionally it may go off quicker and so again have to repurchase more often.
    I reckon it's a sellers dream!
For me, I only have 1 Dior Quince and it's a blue set - I think it's called Denim. I only use it occasionally so I probably won't repurchase the new formula.
I do LOVE the backstage palettes though! Have they reformulated those do you know? (Hoping not)
    Thanks again x

I don’t know how I feel about this! The new formula looks a bit softer on your eye. I’m not sure that I prefer one over the other. I guess that’s a good thing! 😂 I’m so glad you did this video! Thank you! ❤ I really want to see Khaki!! I love the color story! 😮 🥰🤗😍

Thank you for your honesty. I will skip out on the reformulated quints unfortunately. They both look good on you, but I prefer the old one for sure. I don’t like how the new one accentuates the lines on your hands. Doesn’t bode well for my crinkly eye.

Thank you so much for this in depth review. I went to the shops yesterday and tried Dior eyeshadows for the first time and I must have tried the new palette because that brown shade was very crumbly! I wouldn't have thought that they already had the new formula but it must be because especially the brown shadow was crumbling away and swatched not very well. That being said, there's one show nearby the still sells the old palette but I am wondering if I should buy it because I thought there are similar colours in the Natasha Denona glam palette... But maybe the Nd is less refined.. as in the Dior looks more elegant/smoother?

I would love a comparison of the forever foundations as in the matte, glow and the natural one which is sold exclusively on dior website that I have only seen there unlike the other two which I’ve seen at other retailers. Also their new primers that go with them. Especially since the shades they come in I see the number of choices varies between the different formulations…. I think there is also another forever formula that comes in a squeeze tube but not sure if it was still available or just had not been removed from their website. Also would love a video explaining the different dior lip glow products. I see some now are gloss some I think are actual lipsticks and some are plumping but all have very similar packaging and kinda a bit confusing what is what and which do what to know which to buy and would give the results a shopper would be seeking. Thanks. Loving your videos.

Your boyfriend was spot on. I prefer the look of the old formula on you. Dior eye shadows have always been my favorite but I don’t like how the new formula emphasized the lines on your hand more. I really wanted the Eden Roc but now I’m going to pass on it 😞

    Hi Sofia!
Old formula is much better! I saw Lexi Jung video with new Khaki quint and is even worse than this one. I hate the “clean” beauty trend. Is just a way to make people buy things more often and pay a lot for poor quality products that don’t perform well and expire very fast. If Eden Roc is the same formula like new Soft Cashmere I will skip it. Very sad!😟

So interesting! The swatches of the old formula look MUCH better to me than the new one but on the eyes, they look extremely similar. The finished look on both eyes looked just as lovely to me. Still, I wish they had not changed the formula. No reason to fix what isn't broken.

Let's see if they really are gonna be a clean beauty brand. I mean, when i order something at Victoria Beckham, it comes in packaging of which everything is able to recycle, it's soft for face and eyes mostly, very beautiful! Dior, maybe. Fist wait and see. Regarding the formula, i don't think it sells. They have to come with better quints than, which they did, a couple of years ago, after being bored by their shadows for centuries. And now they let it go. Good reason, but they have to do it better than. Thanks for another very good video, the swatches, the explanation...patchy, going hard pan quickly....been bored by these type of European shadows to long. I was so bored here, Sofia. Than i saw Pat McGrath and her shadows, used them a lot!!! Cannot wear them anymore because of my much more sensitive eyes, but there is Suqqu!!!!! And that is where the difference comes, because i always will be an eyeshadow addict Sofia, for Suqqu i go far to get it. For these, no, no,no. But another brilliant and chrystal clear video, thanks so much, have a wonderful day!!!!🤩🤩😘😘🤩🤩😘😘🤩🤩😘😘

i had a feeling the newer quint had the softer mattes. i was hoping it was softer in that buildable vs patchy way tho haha! it's a bummer the older quints are no longer on their website (except for ltd ed). it would have been nicer for them to sell those off versus just switching over. i feel similarly about the new givenchy mini travel powders but luckily i picked mine up during the last sephora sale :D.

Another Dior product I adored ruined! Blergh! I am so so glad I ordered the 2 quints I wanted 2 days ago before the old formula is gone forever. They definitely made these worse with the formula change.
The new one is okay. It’s fine. The old formula was magic. It blended itself and looked special.
You can definitely tell the difference on your eye. The old looks much shinier and richer.

After recent reformulations, I just knew this one would be worse so I snapped up palettes I hadn’t purchased yet on the old formula. They are selling quickly if not sold out at most retailers. Many are available on resale market for not a bad price so that seems better to me than buying the new formulations. Chanel blushes reformulation have similar issues with powdery texture, dryness, softer pigment, less luminosity. Some colors hardly match old v new
