Feels like the kind of thing that RUclips should be standing up for, too. If content creators can’t make honest videos, YT turns into a hellscape pretty fast.

To those saying he pressed the wrong button, he DID press the I/M button first, and you can see it gave the results, but THEN it locks up where pressing any button did nothing. NO SCANNER SHOULD LOCK UP JUST BECAUSE YOU PRESS THE I/M BUTTON FIRST.
He discovered a software bug. These things happen. It didn't work in his specific application, which is a real-world application, and their product was not intuitive. It's reason enough for a poor review. This doesn't mean the product never works, but it did not work in an intuitive way when he wanted it to work.
@@Acoustic_Theory Exactly - with (almost) every product they will test it as thoroughly as they can, but they can't cover any and all possible combinations and scenarios. If there is an issue that they hadn't come up in testing, the correct proceedure would be to apologise and thank the person for bringing the issue to their attention and a request for as much information on the hardware, and how it was used, as possible, so they could ensure the issue is fixed.
Really appreciate your understanding and support. The problem is that most review content these days comes from small one-person operations, whereas in the past journalists were published in magazines which had a corporate structure and support. So, it is easy for companies to SLAPP the small-timers, which harms everyone; the reviewer, the consumer who no longer has an impartial opinion, and even the company itself. The only way, as you said, is for the content creators to unite and use the combined power of their audience, as large-scale negative publicity is the only language these guys understand. When Stefan's case is over I plan to create a timeline video and distil the lessons for companies and reviewers so this sort of idiocy happens less often, and hopefully, never.
He took on companies like Apple so that people could have the right of repair protections People are ignorant of just how much of a service he has done for them
I am going through something similar to this right now myself. A company is threatening to sue me for something I said that was derogatory, but true, about their product. I've engaged legal counsel and had to pay some legal fees, which is the first time that's ever happened to me. I agree with your stance that we all need to stand up to companies that are bullies and want us to provide inaccurate or untruthful reviews of their products. Glad I found this video. If you ever want to discuss anything, I'd be open to a collaboration. Hit me up
Scotty Kilmer has really declined in quality and sanity lately. I stopped watching him when he did a review of a lithium jump pack and shit all over it because "it didn't work" and saying "this thing is just junk". He didn't turn on the boost option which was a simply two-button press. So, of course it wouldn't jump the dead battery, it was a safety option. He failed to research it to learn how it worked. At that point, I lost all faith in him because he should have known better.
I stopped watching him a few years ago. Toyota is his god and all other makes are pure trash. I bet he's having a hard time handling the new truck issues like spun main bearings and 4×4 parts breaking on easy terrain.
It wasn’t Amazon ,it’s a fake company , I suggest you never open any email from that company . Amazon could care less about your feelings or thoughts . Cheers
Australia doesn't have freedom of speech laws so that's why this type of shenanigans can happen It happens more than you think in Australia. These companies don't care about the outcome, they just care about getting people silenced for a while until the people forget about the negativity Australians (and New Zealanders too) spend their time worrying about what politician will give them a few bucks at the next election rather than demanding the politicians bring in freedom of speech laws!
The issue is that these companies try to use these laws to shut down criticism even if they know they would not be successful. How many people can afford a lawyer.
Dcs have fucked themselves regardless. Im an aussie, into 4wd, and have a lithium battery in my forbie, and I will never buy dcs. I feel I am not alone in this thought either. Dcs won't recover. Public perception is against them.
Been a subscriber to Louis Rossmann for a while now. He does very important work for consumers' rights. Don't RUclipsrs who these companies request reviews for their products require them to sign off in writing that they will not sue? That would be MY condition. Further, if they did sue, they would have to cover all my lawyer's fees plus liquidated damages of some amount.
Great video and opened my eyes. I have been doing review videos and I always disclose that I got it for free but will still lambast them if the product doesn't function as expected (or advertised). I am going to be more careful from whom I receive products!
I'm the same way... you send me a product to review, you're getting an honest assessment. If you don't like that, don't send me the product. I only promote products I use and more than likely am still using after the sponsor slot has been aired. My character and integrity is way more valuable then a product placement
Thanks for the warning about what kind of company Foxwell is. I'll definitly avoid all their products in the future if they like to threaten and bully people with legal action like that...
It's because Australia doesn't have freedom of speech laws It sucks but the citizens there spend their time voting in politics who will give them more in the next election rather than voting in politicians who will give them more freedom in the next election
@@stultuses No its not, and seriously "more freedom", have you not seen what's been going on in the US elections, voter suppression, taking away women's body rights? Louis is AWESOME! And I will stay as far away as possible from Foxwell and will let friends know too. If Foxwell are attacking RUclipsrs for reviews.... that is scummy.
Hey Mr. Den. I do not have a foxwell, but I have several other brands of a small tools like that one. I repair check engine lights for a living and use these small tools while driving the car to get emissions monitors ready for state emissions testing. In the video you appear to be wanting to hit the enter button, but that big blue button with the I/M on it is actually the Inspection/Maintenance button which takes you directly to the page you ended on. That is a non interactive page. What I believe you wanted to do was highlight the OBD choice on the top left using the arrows to manuver, then hit the button that says "enter". You would then have likely gotten more menus to work through.
I agree with operator error, but... It's designed terribly. Almost like they already had the tooling for the case, and needed to fill in all the button holes with arbitrary functions. And the interface isn't meant to be user friendly.
This comment sounds fake to me. The "Mr. Den" salutation is obviously wrong and matches expectations from non-english speakers who do not understand trademark and branding. The grammar is suspect, as is the claim to "repair check engine lights for a living" (how many of those lights need a bulb replacement?). The comment does improve after that, so perhaps @CarStuff2C was simply having a bad day.
@Sylvan_dB It isn't fake. It can be difficult to write a comment that is not only respectful but informative without being condescending. I guess I should renew my grammarly subscription.
I was so waiting, and glad, to hear you say that about truth vs defamation. F 'em. As a business owner, if you come at me with "We have attorneys", it shuts down immediately. I pick and choose my customers and have most of my life making a very nice living. Job done well, happy customers, no lies and BS, you can do it as well. I'm not scared. I have a near perfect customer base.
I'm about 70k into defending myself from such a SLAPP suit now after exposing a well known business owner guilty plea to impersonation of a federal agent.
You’d think they’d have a more positive reputation if they went out of their way to assist the customer with issues. But they’ll spend money arming up with lawyers to attack an independent reviewer.
Enter button would have been a better choice than the I/M button. I have an older Harbor Freight or maybe it was my consumer grade Thinktool the did not play well with my Equinox doing live data and driving. Set all kinds of lights off and put me in limp mode. Maybe this unit just can't do driving live data. In any case you needed to press enter once you highlighted DTC.
You hit the I/M button instead of the read code button. Thats why it kept going to that screen. That middle button isnt a OK button. They are hot buttons to I/M. The reader might of been freezing up, or your using it wrong.
@@denoftools on the main screen press the top left button "Read" code. After your in the readiness Monitor page the back and enter button would be the only ones that would work i would think.
It looked like it was function as expected! You hit the I/M readiness button and it let you know it was not ready for inspection. I would have moved the cursor to ODBII/EOBD and pressed Enter to see what happens.
Companies who sue for honest reviews need to suck it up. If you make a poor or lesser quality product and you don't like poor reviews, make better products! I'm with you 100 percent, Jeff. Thank you for the information about these companies that I won't do business with! I hope you and your family have a super weekend!! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
I'm glad someone brought this up. I have a small gear/prepper honest review channel. I've had some interesting issues with companies about all sorts of issues. I actually have a playlist of items from major name brands that I was disappointed in, like Gerber, Lowes/ToughBuilt, Kobalt tools, DarkBeam, etc. Toughbuilt btw is the only company that has contacted me to make things right. Anyway, I used to do book reviews on my channel having to do with homesteading, nuclear war, prepping and so on. Early in my YT journey, I received a cease and desist letter from a publisher. The publisher did like enjoy my honest review. However, even though the video was not popular on my YT channel, it was very popular on other platforms. The book sold out on Amazon. The author of the book sent me a letter to keep making book reviews, and to keep the video up. The publisher wants the video down. The video is currently set as private till this matter is resolved. So now I'm stuck, and this has been in limbo for over a year.
I would have had to read the instructions first, and I'm guessing you didn't based the random pushing of buttons and unfamiliarity with what the buttons and screen did. Maybe try again and come back at us with proper testing results. Interesting how companies want to work with you in one sentence and give a subtle threat in the next.
I guess it wasn’t clear, but after running the scan, none of the buttons are responsive. I was pressing all of the buttons. That was the point I even sent the video to the company and they agreed that the product was defective.
Thank you Brother. You are 100% correct. If you are not honest in your reviews than you are just as bad as the people that are peddling this crap. Thank you...I love the channel!!
Thanks Den of Tools 👍 I've been a fan and subscriber of Will Prowse for years, and I think I've been a fan and subscriber of Louis for about a year, since I had not found his channel sooner. Now, I am a subscriber of AlloffroadAU. This type of "bullying" is unconscionable ‼ I hope the Australian government gets it butt in gear and starts protecting those who honestly review items.
If they disclose it and state the extent of the sponsorship then it can be OK There are plenty of people who can still be objective even if offered sponsorship under the right conditions. How this channel operates is a perfect example Refusing to watch someone for being sponsored and not bothering to assess why and how that sponsorship is arranged is just as biased, but in reverse
Thank you for this video. I was just about to purchase that same Foxwell scanner. I'm not going to purchase anything from a company that chooses to be litigious instead of just taking care of their customers. Thanks again, for saving me from patronizing a company who is only interested in making profits.
Nothing illegal or morally wrong with doing an honest, candid review. That IS the main reason the vast majority of your viewers/fan base return to 'Den of Tools' time and time again. Keep up the good, honest work, and I believe you will continue to thrive as you have for many years, and a BIG THANKS, for the service you provide for ALL us here, those of us who have been part of the loyal DOT community for what seems like forever and the newcomer alike- We appreciate you!

Happened to me last summer. But then I called them out in a video and pointed out that as someone who makes a living off of filming videos about what’s going on in my life, I would most definitely be making videos about getting sued by a company for an honest review and how good that video series would do…. And all of a sudden they wanted to drop everything and call a truce. I refused and told them to go ahead and sue me if they wanted. They dropped it and I’ve never heart from them again
Yes defamation laws in Australia favour the defamed, whether they have been or not. Cease and desist orders are VERY common to Australian RUclipsrs. I think the way around it, is you have to say 'personal opinion' throughout the video. (That's what the autoexpert does constantly - he's an Aussie RUclipsr). Thanks for bringing this to our attention, I will definitely watch/support those channels.
Aussie here. Australia made some changes to defamation laws in recent years which opened a can of worms and encouraged defamation suits over stupid things, but so far none have really won (a few settled because big companies sometimes prefer to throw a few hundred thousand dollars at someone to make them go away than have to pay millions to their lawyer to defend them) but it appears as if the chances of winning are as difficult as ever. There's a LOT of legal precedent that protects our right to express ourselves, and legal precedent is actually a lot harder to change than a constitution, so don't worry about our protections, we're all good thanks. If the case ever actually makes it to court it will be surprising, but if it does get that far, there's no logical way DCS can win that case. I'll bet they're bluffing and hoping the youtuber folds before they have to.
The real issue is that Australia doesn't have freedom of speech in law Australians spend their time worrying about what politician will give them a few bucks at the next election rather than demanding they finally get freedom of speech enshrined in law No wonder they bent the knee so hard over the toxic vaccine and mandates
If we can all jump behind these people bringing this stuff to light and push back against these shady companies. Hopefully we can hold them accountable!
I don't make RUclips videos but I ran into this on Amazon. If they asked for a review I was doing them until I had one that was bad because the item I bought was crap. I told the truth but Amazon said that they would not post my review because of what I said. I no longer give any reviews if they are not going to print the truth.
Threatening to sue someone is normally a bad idea over all, and I think most good lawyers would agree. Companies trying to prevent discussion on their products almost always shows they're trying to scam buyers.
As a small content creator for stuff around my mini-ranch, being sued has always been my concern, especially with how honest I try to be with bad issues I have run into on some stuff. It is so refreshing to see so many creators coming together lately on this subject and pushing back....prior to this I have not seen a movement like this, for this reason, within the content creator space and it is really empowering to see so many larger channels coming together to help fight against this. Thank you for adding your voice to it! Great job on your videos, love your content and I have been watching it for a long time, thanks for the reviews and honesty.
As one of Louis' longtime subs, I really appreciated this video. 🙏 Hope to see more and more creators stand up to these companies until they are no longer confident they can get away with it and stop trying.
Rossman is amazing and clearly is a guy we want on our side! I watched his video on this and it's so sad that companies put that much effort into lawsuits and hiding changes in their terms instead of just taking valid criticism and improving their products!!
This is why, when certain youtubers get products to review, theyll talk about it, but wont go into depth about the product, because of backlash, but if they buy the pruduct, theyll got into depth about the product & speak the truth about it. These companies know their product is trash, but still want youtubers to say its great & worth buying.
Absolutely 100% correct! I did a teardown of a power supply that was completely unsafe and I showed why, I was contacted behind the scenes also saying we will seek legal recourse, so, I told them to please go ahead and that me and my 300 odd subscribers will be going NOWHERE. We consumers need to stand up for ourselves especially when I paid full price for something it was not sent or donated I bought it, so I have the absolute and full right to do what I did, the product belongs to em and, I have the right to do what I did... I have still heard nothing from them.... When you are being fully honest about something they can do NAF all to you...

It's reason enough for a poor review. This doesn't mean the product never works, but it did not work in an intuitive way when he wanted it to work.

Exactly - with (almost) every product they will test it as thoroughly as they can, but they can't cover any and all possible combinations and scenarios.
Crazy that a company would have the balls to send that email. Glad you stood firm
Louis's video is a MUST watch
He took on companies like Apple so that people could have the right of repair protections
People are ignorant of just how much of a service he has done for them
I am going through something similar to this right now myself.
Hit me up
Scottie Kilmer also said the same thing about this scanner. Some how I don't think they'll be threatening him.
I'll just keep it short.... Scotty Kilmer sucks.
Losers watch that clown.
Someone still watches (Toyota can’t do anything wrong)Kilmer?
I stopped watching him a few years ago. Toyota is his god and all other makes are pure trash. I bet he's having a hard time handling the new truck issues like spun main bearings and 4×4 parts breaking on easy terrain.
Thanks for spreading the word about All offroad here in Oz👍👍👍
Don't ever trust Amazon reviews.
I love that people around the world are calling out these kind of companies on RUclips!
We need a website that lists these companies
Amazon sent me a nasty gram for writing honest reviews.
It wasn’t Amazon ,it’s a fake company , I suggest you never open any email from that company . Amazon could care less about your feelings or thoughts .
Cheers
They actually telling us what not to buy.
Thanks BEAR for showing us that the BEARS HONESTY CAN'T BE BOUGHT ! ! ! 👍👍
Nothing but internet bullies. Stand your ground.
Louis Rossman did a great video the other day about the tech company suing the youtuber
I live in Australia & i highly doubt anyone can successfully sue for something like this
Australia doesn't have freedom of speech laws so that's why this type of shenanigans can happen
It happens more than you think in Australia. These companies don't care about the outcome, they just care about getting people silenced for a while until the people forget about the negativity
Australians (and New Zealanders too) spend their time worrying about what politician will give them a few bucks at the next election rather than demanding the politicians bring in freedom of speech laws!
The issue is that these companies try to use these laws to shut down criticism even if they know they would not be successful. How many people can afford a lawyer.
@@willx9352 Yeah, it's just a way for someone with more money to legally harass someone with less money.
That's why it's important to read a contract before signing. If I see an NDA in a contract, I won't sign it.
F-around, F-around Foxwell….if you poke the BEAR, you better be ready for what comes next!! You “Shine On” as well my friend!!
Crap product from a crap company, ran by crap people. Thank you for exercising your FREEDOM OF SPEECH.
Yeah, watched Will's video... he went off on the Aussie government for allowing that kind of abuse of their citizens. Great video.
It's because Australia doesn't have freedom of speech laws
It sucks but the citizens there spend their time voting in politics who will give them more in the next election rather than voting in politicians who will give them more freedom in the next election
@@stultuses No its not, and seriously "more freedom", have you not seen what's been going on in the US elections, voter suppression, taking away women's body rights? Despite what people in the US think, Defamation law in Australia is essentially the same as in the US. Stephan will be fine because he expressed his experience, his opinion and the truth as he saw it. He will win and get his legal costs paid for by DCS (unless DCS then file for bankruptcy, like Alex Jones, Rudy Giuliani, Amber Heard etc).
Thanks for sharing your story, as a fellow reviewer of scanners, I will definitely keep this interaction in mind if they reach out to the channel again for a review. Cheers!
Louis is AWESOME! And I will stay as far away as possible from Foxwell and will let friends know too. If Foxwell are attacking RUclipsrs for reviews.... that is scummy.
We could never. We're sorry to hear that you had that experience 😞
Hey Mr.
I was just going to type this. You beat me to it. This tool might be junk but that was operator error we all watched.
I was hoping others noticed, thought I was crazy.
Way to go their young man. Keep up the great job and I'll keep watching you Young Sir.
Louis and Will are two of my favorite RUclipsrs
Who?
@@Failure_Is_An_Option Did you watch the video?
I was so waiting, and glad, to hear you say that about truth vs defamation. F 'em. As a business owner, if you come at me with "We have attorneys", it shuts down immediately. I pick and choose my customers and have most of my life making a very nice living. Job done well, happy customers, no lies and BS, you can do it as well. I'm not scared. I have a near perfect customer base.
I'm about 70k into defending myself from such a SLAPP suit now after exposing a well known business owner guilty plea to impersonation of a federal agent.
Good Story. 👏
Fantastic video!!!!!!!!! Thank you for standing up and telling the truth. ❤
Them: "We may seek legal action." Red: "You do you, peace!"
I can appreciate your honesty as to how your channel works, now that's honesty, and you really don't see that much anymore.
They just want positive reviews to up their consumer base.
You’d think they’d have a more positive reputation if they went out of their way to assist the customer with issues.
But they’ll spend money arming up with lawyers to attack an independent reviewer.
Thanks for the heads up, as I work on growing my channel.
Also noted that I’ll never mess with them.
I couldn’t highlight anything because none of the buttons worked. That was the point.
@@denoftools hmmm. Thought I saw a line light up around the box. Well anyway don't take trips to China anytime soon. LoL
Thank you kindly for allocating the time to create this video! Take Care
You hit the I/M button instead of the read code button. Thats why it kept going to that screen. That middle button isnt a OK button. They are hot buttons to I/M. The reader might of been freezing up, or your using it wrong.
I was yelling at the screen "press enter!!!" Not the readiness monitor button!! I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed.
@@Fierofreak01 bad UI lol
If you notice, I was pressing all of the buttons after it scanned. The entire system was locked up.
@@denoftools on the main screen press the top left button "Read" code. After your in the readiness Monitor page the back and enter button would be the only ones that would work i would think.
Thanks Papa Bear. As an Australian I'm glad you came across this issue with the Aussie RUclipsr. I hope you and family are doing well.
Is the problem you pushing I/m instead of enter?
Did you not see me press every single button it’s locked up hard
It is great to see honest RUclips reviewers sticking up for each other when companies pull a dirty on them. Keep up the good work :)
Get em Bear!
Subscribed to both RUclipsrs, also donated to help fight lawsuit. Thanks for letting everyone know!
A "thumbs-up" for truth, justice and the American way.
RUclipsrs also needs to stand up to RUclips as well. Stop the censorship.
It looked like it was function as expected! You hit the I/M readiness button and it let you know it was not ready for inspection. I would have moved the cursor to ODBII/EOBD and pressed Enter to see what happens.
I literally pressed every button and nothing would work. I sent the video to them and they agreed.
Companies who sue for honest reviews need to suck it up. If you make a poor or lesser quality product and you don't like poor reviews, make better products! I'm with you 100 percent, Jeff. Thank you for the information about these companies that I won't do business with! I hope you and your family have a super weekend!! 😃😃😃😃❤❤❤❤
Louis is great on Apple product issues and the fight for right to repair.
Who?
That's why i like your channel and reviews you're honest and lays everything out. No compromising you're character. Keep up the good work
Thanks Den of Tools 👍
I've been a fan and subscriber of Will Prowse for years, and I think I've been a fan and subscriber of Louis for about a year, since I had not found his channel sooner. Now, I am a subscriber of AlloffroadAU. This type of "bullying" is unconscionable ‼ I hope the Australian government gets it butt in gear and starts protecting those who honestly review items.
I immediately ignore any sponsored video.
If they disclose it and state the extent of the sponsorship then it can be OK
There are plenty of people who can still be objective even if offered sponsorship under the right conditions.
How this channel operates is a perfect example
Refusing to watch someone for being sponsored and not bothering to assess why and how that sponsorship is arranged is just as biased, but in reverse
I’m glad you stood up to them Tool Bear.
Thank you for this video. I was just about to purchase that same Foxwell scanner. I'm not going to purchase anything from a company that chooses to be litigious instead of just taking care of their customers. Thanks again, for saving me from patronizing a company who is only interested in making profits.
Any company suing someone due to a legit bad review will ensure I never spend money with that business ever again.
Thank you so much Bear. For bringing this issue to light. And for all the great years of awesome content. One of the greats of all time so thank you.
Think most people suspect they’re getting lied to about some stuff but few get experience the sh** they try to pull first hand. so thank you for educating the consumer.
Ppreciate you papa bear
The real issue is that Australia doesn't have freedom of speech in law
Australians spend their time worrying about what politician will give them a few bucks at the next election rather than demanding they finally get freedom of speech enshrined in law
No wonder they bent the knee so hard over the toxic vaccine and mandates
If we can all jump behind these people bringing this stuff to light and push back against these shady companies. Hopefully we can hold them accountable!
I love the way you deal with products and sponsorships
I don't make RUclips videos but I ran into this on Amazon. If they asked for a review I was doing them until I had one that was bad because the item I bought was crap. I told the truth but Amazon said that they would not post my review because of what I said. I no longer give any reviews if they are not going to print the truth.
Threatening to sue someone is normally a bad idea over all, and I think most good lawyers would agree. Companies trying to prevent discussion on their products almost always shows they're trying to scam buyers.
Mad respect just like I have for Rossman
As a small content creator for stuff around my mini-ranch, being sued has always been my concern, especially with how honest I try to be with bad issues I have run into on some stuff. It is so refreshing to see so many creators coming together lately on this subject and pushing back....prior to this I have not seen a movement like this, for this reason, within the content creator space and it is really empowering to see so many larger channels coming together to help fight against this. Thank you for adding your voice to it!
Great job on your videos, love your content and I have been watching it for a long time, thanks for the reviews and honesty.
We need more content like this! There are so many misleading reviews it's hard to find great consumer products worthy of our money.
As one of Louis' longtime subs, I really appreciated this video. 🙏
Hope to see more and more creators stand up to these companies until they are no longer confident they can get away with it and stop trying.
I have this same unit, I used it many times with no problems, it does suck that they sent that email, even though I haven't had any problems with my unit, after watching this I will stay away from their products, Dam Bully company's.
Thanks 4 letting us know..
