In this episode of Guest in the Newsroom, we welcome environmentalist and founder of Tarun Bharat Sangh, Dr Rajendra Singh. Dr. Rajendra Singh has been working for water conservation and river rejuvenation for the past several decades. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 2001 for his community-based efforts in water harvesting and management. In this interview, he talked about how to revive rivers. He also spoke openly about the Modi government's policies on the environment. Dr. Rajendra also talked about working with Arvind Kejriwal.

There was a time When Artists, Writers, Poets, nature activists, social activists, Scientist, Researchers of this vast, beautiful and culture riched country were Glorified and credited for making this country proud and praised all over the world, now we only observe that whole consciousness of this country being centralised towards Politicians and Political propoganda.
Root cause of a happy,peaceful society is pollution free atmosphere, clean rivers, clean water supplies, green infrastructures, progressive education, practical knowledge, practical activities in educational institutions and schools, financial education in schools and colleges.
Schools should teach students about importance of preserving nature because it is most important thing to live in this planet. We have deep connection with nature but as we can see we have separated ourselves with it that causes depression, illness, health problems, disturbed mind, unhappiness and most of the modern problems.
I've been living in Vrindavan for a long time, this place is situated near Yamuna river, 15 to 20 years ago the bank of Yamuna river was clean sand and clay riched and water was clean to bath in it. There was a big population of River turtles and fish then. Now when I go to bank of Yamuna, I see no sand and clay, turtles and fish have been vanished, birds don't come to river, water is dirty and poisonous, there is bad smell in water, noone can bath in it. It really make me deeply sad. This Vrindavan is no longer same as it was clean and peaceful.
Where are we going and what are we doing with places we are living in.
We should start questioning governments and stop glorifying them.

निखिल भाई साहब आपने डॉ साहब से जानना चाहा है कि एक नौकरी पेशा कैसे प्रकृति संरक्षण में सहयोग कर सकता है इसका जवाब है कि कोई भी व्यक्ति कहीं भी कैसे भी शहर में क्यों न रहता हो फिर भी वह प्रकृति संरक्षण में अपना योगदान इस प्रकार दे सकता है कि घर लाइट के अपव्यय को बचाए प्रत्येक दिन कुछ घटे, माह में एक बार चांद के प्रकाश में बैठे तथा आश पास के लोगों को प्रेरित करे पानी की खुली टूटी को बंद करने में अपना अपमान न समझे, पेपर का प्रयोग कम से कम करे, ऑफिस में घर में वाटर रीचार्ज व्यवस्था करें, प्लास्टिक का प्रयोग क्रम से क्रम करें, उतना ही ले थाली में बेकार न जाए नाली में, कपड़े के थैले का प्रयोग करे आदि आदि अनेक क्रिया कलाप करके हम प्रकृति के संरक्षण में अमूल्य योगदान दे सकते हैं, बिना किसी राग देश के ।

यह हमारा दुर्भाग्य है कि हमने इतिहास से कुछ नहीं सीखा इससे पहले भी एक सभ्यता विकसित हुई थी जिसे सिंधु सरस्वती सभ्यता के नाम से जाना जाता है। उसके पतन के अनेक कारणो में एक कारण महत्वपूर्ण था वह था जलवायु परिवर्तन। जिसकी वजह से सिंधु सरस्वती सभ्यता का पतन हुआ। वही परिवर्तन आज हम अनुभव कर रहे इस बार तापमान 45 डिग्री के पार गया है। लेकिन कुछ ही वर्षों 55 डिग्री सेल्सियस से ऊपर जाएगा 55 डिग्री सेल्सियस में रहना दुष्कर हो जाएगा। समय रहते हम सभी जागरूक न हुए तो हमारी सभ्यता का पतन भी कुछ ही शताब्दियों में हो जाएगा। जिसके लिए केवल हम जिम्मेदार होंगे यह केवल छोटा-मोटा मुद्दा नहीं यह एक वैश्विक मुद्दा है। इस पर हम सभी लोग, सरकार, संगठन, वैश्विक संगठन, को कठोर कदम उठने की आवश्यकता है। इस जलवायु परिवर्तन तथा तापमान बढ़ने में अधिक हाथ पूंजीपतियों उद्योगपतियों का वह जंगलों को काटकर वहां पर फैक्ट्री लगा देते हैं। खनिज संसाधन को अनुचित ढंग से निकलते हैं। और पर्यावरण प्रदूषण की और कोई ध्यान नहीं देते इस प्रदूषण को करने में सरकारों का भी कम हाथ नहीं है। अनुचित ढंग से विकास करते हैं जिससे पर्यावरण प्रदूषण होता है हजारों हजार बीघा जंगल कटवा देते हैं जंगलों को लगाने में कोई महत्व नहीं देते वह स्वयं कहते हैं की पेड़ लगाओ पर खुद उसे पर ध्यान नहीं देते जल का अनुचित ढंग से प्रयोग किया जाता है। जिससे भूमिगत जल के मात्रा घट रही हैं। लेकिन इस पर्यावरण प्रदूषण को करने में सबसे कम हाथ आम जनता का होता है और सबसे ज्यादा प्रभावित आम जनता होती है। यह जो तापमान बढ़ रहा है। जो जल की कमी हो रही है। इसका प्रभाव केवल आम जनता पर पड़ रहा है। जिन्होंने प्रदूषण किया वह अपने महलों में आराम से सोते हैं उन्हें धूप में काम नहीं करना होता ,उन्हें धूप में चलना नहीं होता, वह जल बिस्लेरी का पीते हैं। लेकिन आम जनता इसी धूम में कार्य करती है इसी धूप में चलती है इसी में सोती है इस प्रदूषण का सबसे प्रभाव आम जनता पर पड़ता है। जबकि आम जनता प्रदूषण करने बहुत कम हाथ होता है। जितना आम जनता अपने वहां पानी एक साल में प्रयोग करेगा उतना एक पूंजी पति के घर में एक दिन या उससे भी काम में हो जाता है। बाकी। फिर भी मैं इसी आम जनता से आग्रह करना चाहता हूं कि वह अपने यहां अगर कोई पर्यावरण प्रदूषण हो रहा है कोई कर रहा है तो उसको रोक और खुद भी न करें वरना प्रभावित वही होगा।
