When I researched the presto dehydrator that you have through the Presto company they say that it can hold up to 8 trays so I just wanted to let you know cuz you told us 6 but great video anyway.

You seem like a fun lady, I know the video is a few years old, but it sure helped me, I couldn't remember how to put the trays in, I was frustrated. I'll be doing a lot of dehydrating now, I got a great food processor, way easier to chop and slice now.

Just one thing, it is quite noisy, so if you're running it for a long time it helps to run in a room that you can close off e.g., garage.

@ C K, When drying your mushroom slices, did you season them with anything, or just au natural? I've got some fresh shiitake and portabella mushrooms that I want to try drying. I've eaten store-bought portabella chips with garlic and salt. I want to replicate, but not sure if better to spray with something, like water or oil, to get the seasoning to stick to the mushrooms.

Ok 😂😂😂 so I tried dehydrating egg plant for the first time, mine tasted like an old dishcloth 😂. Did you season your? I’m not sure if I just don’t like it or I got a bad one.
haha i dunno maybe i just like the taste of dishcloth? i haven't made it in a while but maybe try olive oil and salt? maybe it's just not your thang. try pineapple it's AMAZING.

I will say that this dehydrator isn’t awesome for fruit leather- it’s set at 160 degrees which is too high for fruit leather, but ok for fruit chips! Buyer be warned...

once material is in trays do you have to rotate them or does fan move air around ? is there a vent for air to come in & out ?

I don't often dehydrate my "wild funky shit" but when i do... it's in a Excalibur!
The thing in the middle sucks in the air, and the air blows up the sides* I figured this out because all the crap/crumbs in the bottom of mine keep getting sucked up against it.. I like mine. Just not sure what temp it runs at, so it’s always a guess of how long to dehydrate different things.

According to the Dehydro's description on Amazon..."This dehydrator operates at a preset temperature of approximately 165°." Angela has the description showing at @1:00 .
Hi, why do my vegetables and fruits shrink so much. I dehydrated carrots yesterday. Started out the size of a 1/2 dollar and ended up the size of a pea!! WTF ! I ent the company an email, and didn’t hear back from them. This happens with everything except apples and mangos. Any suggestions??

I'm pretty new at this, since I got my Presto as a gift for Christmas 2017. But having a fantastic time wearing it out under warranty. Lots of experimenting. Jerky, yeah. But meat is expensive! So working on fruits and fruit roll ups.

You said if it sits out after dehydrating, it will become soft again. So how do you travel with it in on a airplane trip or road trip?

Thank you. I just got one and tried beets, apples and potatoes. According to the manual I needed to pretreat the vegetables by steaming or water blanching but you don't mention that so I was wondering--to pretreat or not to pretreat.

Does the green light stay on the entire time it's on? I just bought one and the light was only on for about 10 minutes when I first plugged it in. It's been plugged in for 3 hours and by strawberries and bananas are just as hydrated as when I put them in. Is mine broken?
ahh it sounds like it... maybe? have you tested another outlet? the light should stay green! im sure you can return it if its defective. good luck!

The Presto Dehydro dehydrator is a GREAT BASIC DEHYDRATOR.!!!!. I have the one that comes with 6 trays (can expand to 12). And it's digital. The trays are .75sq ft. And are interchangeable with the one you have. Not a fan of the Excalibur myself. Another GREAT ONE. They are round and expandable. Some to 30 trays. And not SUPER EXPENSIVE like the Excalibur.

not stupid! you could do this at a verrrry low oven temp but then youd have to have your oven running for hours. the dehydrator is more like a crock pot in that it uses low energy and its safe to leave on all day long. and more effective bc the temp is more controlled
