As an Ethiopian and living in Addis, raised in the 90th its not someting expected from her but my MoM goes out of the way to observe and understand my interst so she enrol me in an Art school in summers starting from 6th grade which really contributes to my growth and I want to thank her here❤ And Thank you Helen for all the interesting topics you present.
I never missed any of Helen's show but did not comment as of today. Her show is always educational. I am here today to advise for those who are very negative to this show. Please, if you do not have anything nice to say, do not watch it or do not comment/ do not waist your time on spreading negative go get life if you do not have one/ leave her alone. She is making a difference to our community. Period!
Dear Helen, i appreciate the topics you pick. They are very helpful. I agree with your guest that we should not ask our children what they would like to be in the future. What worked for me was observing their inclination at a young age and enrol them in summer school accordingly in addition to the extra curriculum through out the year. Finally both my children found their path and was easy for them to choose in college. Bless you.
You don't have to ask your kids," what do you want to be when you grow up?" you can read, or observe your kids through play. I remember one well known Entomologist mentioned that her mother is the one who found her passion because she was looking at her playing with insects, repeatedly. in the other hand , the things we hate in our kids, maybe is the foundation of their strong character. For example, kids who have the habits of nagging, if treated well it will give them the foundation of persistence.
I love the topic. Please do more, we need it. I also need to hear more about modeling behavior. Kid learn more by watching. As a parent, we have to exhibit good behaviors always, knowing that our kids are watching.
Majority of Habesha patients believe hitting kids is a right thing to do. And habesha kids are so humble they don't even exposed their family I don't know whether it's a respect or they scared of them. Last week 14 year's old boy had a fight with his mum, yes he did something wrong but his mum want to hit him. so I was in the middle to stop her when I hold her hands, the more she want to hit him not only him she even slapped me😱. So from that incident I learned a lot my mum and dad never touched me and I have 2 years old son I promise to God no matter what in the future I will never ever touch him. I believe communicate has a big power telling him am not happy with him will be enough. That's why I am very close with my parents. I don't even understand why they hit the kids for coz firstly the mistake already has been done so hitting them won't change anything. specially if you are living out side Ethiopian why do you take a risk for losing your own kids coz one day if the government knows what they are doing they will take the kids automatically. Some parents they don't even have a decent conversation with their on kid's😒
Raising boys in the west is different if they dont respect and fear their parents they will be a lost cause. Its hard to control a defiant teenage boy.
Khdeja, u don't have to agree with what is being said. If u r not interested, u don't have to listen to them. But cursing ur brother and sister is disrespectful to u and to the moral value that raised you up.
